@ people who carry bags everywhere what do you put in them what is there to bring other than chapstick, keys, phone and maybe a tampon why are you packing a suitcase to be outside for 5 hours
#used to carry a flashlight too but i never needed to use it so i stopped#ditto for planner/journal/notebook; haven't needed to use one for a while#but if i did again it would be in there#what's even the point of having inventory slots if you dont fill them??#blogging#edc#for the longest time I was considering getting a ruler tattooed on my arm/hand#but then i realised it would be FAR less of a hassle to just drop a tiny retractable measuring tape in my bag#also i carry band-aids in my wallet so those are technically in my backpack too#Youtube

MY EDC as a sicko

[Image Description: photo of a small table full of things. There are: a small red pocket diary with a sticker of photographs on it, a red rescue inhaler, a Uni-ball Signo pen and a blue no-name pen with flashlight on it, a disposable facemask, two epipens in plastic cases, a pillbox with three different pills in it, a small phone charger, a charging brick, and a bottle of hand sanitizer. At the top is a blue and orange pocket organizer pouch. End I.D]

[Image: Everything but red pocket diary and epipens are stuffed in the pouch. In the front of the pouch, the cap of the inhaler is just visible in the largest pocket, the hand sanitizer is in the left lower pocket, and the two pens are in the smaller lower right pocket. End I.D]

[Image: the back of the pouch shows the pillbox in the wider pocket on the left, the cord is folded into the smaller pocket on the right, and the back zipper is open to show the mask and charging brick are inside. End I.D]
The meds are celebrex, imodium, and tylenol. Fuck i forgot to photograph the Zofran blister pack. And my emergency Luna bar. And my worry stone. Phone/wallet and keys and pads go in other pockets.
Anyway now hopefully things will stop spilling out of my pocket.

Whelp to take a break from all that (if you want), current favourite EDC butch gear?
i have a gerber flip knife that i keep pretty sharp and in good condition, and a streamlight microstream that always seems to come in handy when you least expect it.
you never know when you're at a party and something gets dropped or you need to see behind a refrigerator. i feel very butch when people are like 'oh does anyone have a flashlight?' and i've got 250 lumens in a light that's about the size of a chapstick.
how about you? got a favorite EDC tool?

So, I need to figure out my EDC.
I am having a custom man purse made and I can put anything I want in it. I spent decades inside and I've never really had to think about what I should take with me when I leave the house.
Getting stranded in a dark neighborhood when my battery died made me realize I should have a nice flashlight. And that was a lot of fun to research. Flashlights have gotten ridiculously cool since LEDs have taken over.
Here are some of my EDC ideas...
Pocket knife (for utility and protection) Tiny wallet (for quick access to my ID and debit card) Less tiny wallet (lesser used cards like insurance, cash, coins) Tiny flashlight Batteries Tiny lighter Magnifying lens with light (for tiny text in grocery store) Pen Sharpie Tiny notepad Post its Tiny Multitool (with pliers, wire cutter, screwdrivers) Checkbook (I have needed this a weird amount lately) Microfiber cloth (cleaning lens on phone) Lens cleaner spray Tiny LED video light (for photography) Tiny hand sanitizer Tissues Nasal spray Mask Android version of AirTags
What do you carry with you every day?
Am I missing anything?

KIT’S MEDIOCRE EDC/LOOT DROP
my bag is an orbitgear M500 "swift" with a modzip-3g ballistic bullet sleeve. on the bullet sleeve's clip i've also got a matador 18L transit tote; it's a packable waterproof bag for things like groceries.

most of the time when i leave the house, i bring this bag. there are two big sections in the bag.

in the front i keep stuff that i want to be sanitary - spork, wet wipes, spare mask, hankerchief, tampon, makeup wipe, benadryl (misplaced lol), a hair tie, and a compact (which i’ll probably remove since i never use it).

in the bigger section, which has two waterproof zip pockets, i keep medication (including ibuprofen, acetaminophen, benadryl, lactaid, pepto bismol, and a day’s worth of my everyday meds), as well as spare earplugs, more hair ties, chapstick, and currently a fruit roll-up, although i prefer a white chocolate macadamia nut clif bar (gf & vegan, good carbs, stores well).
on the far left, i've also got a sharge carbonmag 10,000 mAh powerbank and a lever gear keychain lightning cable with usb-c adaptor + SIM tool. the powerbank allows wireless charging, which is convenient for my phone and earbuds (below). the keychain cable is extremely compact and bends back on itself, so the powerbank can lie flat against your phone if you put it in your pocket.

in the bullet pouch i keep a pen, flash drive, my own ear plugs, a can opener, and a spare battery for my pentax 6x7. also a lighter & hairpin (where permitted by law).

these things sometimes go in the bag but are in my pockets if not. secrid wallet (the only wallet i ever want to own for the rest of my life), rovyvon aurora flashlight, and the pissbuds. the wallet holds 8 cards + a little cash and a flat multitool, and it has a spring arm that fans out the cards in the main metal protector - it’s convenient, looks nice, and fits in my front pocket. it’s the first real wallet i’ve ever owned after a decade of mightywallet-ing.
my brother gave me the flashlight, which is extremely bright, glows in the dark, has a UV & a low light option, and charges via micro-usb… an issue cuz i need to get another cable lol. if i ever upgrade my phone, I’ll probably get a newer usb-c version of this.
the pissbuds are nothing ear (1) buds. i got them for cheap. they’re great. they have noise cancelling, and the battery lasts a long time. they sound decent and charge wirelessly. i was given a much nicer set of earbuds (sony wf-1000xm3) by a dear friend, but i use them less often because the case is bulkier, the buds are heavier & less comfortable, and the controls are less responsive & intuitive to me.
i have an iphone SE-2. it’s old and cracked and slow. i like the size and i can’t afford anything better. in general, i’m happy with it.

the last thing that i carry is a carabiner with my house key (not pictured) and two keychain multi tool things. i never use either of these but you can supposedly smoke weed out of the silver one, which is cool. the carabiner was like $8 from home depot and i fucking hate it. it’s heavy and not highly strength-rated. I got it because I thought the circular loop would make it more convenient, but the carabiner itself is far too thick to put anything useful (like a key) on the loop. I often look at nicer carabiners online and think about replacing this one.
thanks for tuning in, hit the inbox with any questions, i love you

You don't need to EDC an entire toolbox, but the things that I find myself reaching for essentially constantly in my EDC is my flashlight, my pen, and my knife.
So, go out and get yourself a compact pocket light. A pen that's durable enough to carry but cheap enough to lose, (I am personally a fan of the pokka brand folding pens) and a decent folding knife.
If you are unfortunate enough to have girl pockets, My go-to light is going to be the streamlight microstream. It's tiny.
If you have bigger pockets, the macrostream/Protac 1L-1AA is a great choice. The 1L- 1aa is a triple fuel flashlight, accepting standard AA batteries, CR123, and 14500's.
Honestly, even though I have carried a 21700 light in the past, I wouldn't suggest going anything larger than an 18650 light. And I would probably suggest going smaller than that even.

Fuck it, toolposting time

This is my day to day kit, and with it I can fix just about anything in the plant. It's missing exactly one thing, and that's a pair of good pliers/multitool, but that's on its way (it'll be carried separately because I'm out of room in my small pouch and my big one is too big. Breakdown of all my tools below the cut

From left to right, we've got:
- LOTO locks. Safety is first so my locks are first. These are American Lock model H-6698 in blue. Very heafty aluminum lock, does exactly what it's supposed to; locks things out and keeps me safe
- next is my Wiha compact allen key sets. One for metric and one for standard. These ones in particular are nice because of their length, makes for extra leverage.
- after that is my modified Icon magnetic flashlight. I modified it so the longer LED bar faced in towards the battery so it can be used upside down or as a work light. USBc rechargeable and very handy
- taking center stage is my Klein Tools insulated screwdrivers in philips and slotted (flat head). They're well used so I don't use them for any work that would actually require insulated tools as the 1000V rating can't be trusted or verified. Probably my most used tools
-second to last is my trust adjustable hammer. It's a Craftsman model CMMT81623 and it's great at rounding off nuts and bolts or doing percussive maintenance. Has custom dog bone engraving (I did it by hand, don't judge)
-and finally, my trusty toughbuilt cliptech pouch. I love these because they have a quick release mechanism that means I don't have to fight it to take it off and I don't have to take off my belt either. Very convenient. I have a larger one that I use for big jobs, especially electrical jobs because it's been modified to hold my multimeter and some other useful tools.
That's all for edc except for my keys (not pictured for obvious reasons) and my radio, which isn't anything special. If this is something people are interested in, I can go into more detail or even do a full toolbox tour (at least, what I'm allowed to show, I do still work for a company haha)
