Sadly, this retiree-turned-artist's home just outside of St. Louis, Missouri didn't sell and has been taken off the market. The asking price of $499K was reasonable for the area, but apparently buyers just weren't into his mosaic art. I really love it- check it out.
Tumblr media
Love the technique he did on the door- reminiscent of Pee Wee's Playhouse.
Tumblr media
He did the mosaic floors and also the paintings on the walls.
Tumblr media
I really like the design on the fire place and hearth. It has an art deco look.
Tumblr media
This is so nice. People are so dull, they probably would've bought it if it was white or gray.
Tumblr media
The owner, named Frank, was inspired by his favorite place, the Venice Cafe. The local haunt was known for its eclectic decor comprising statues, curios, and mosaic tiles.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The kitchen is nice. Love the orange cabinets. At first, the house was put on the market for $534,900, and was eventually reduced to $499K.
Tumblr media
Off to the side of the kitchen what they call "The Rotunda."
Tumblr media
He did the same technique on the bedroom windows giving the illusion of irregular shapes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Frank's favorite room is the ocean themed bath. He thought that he would just die here, but at 73, he's living longer than he thought he would, so he & his wife have decided to downsize.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is cool- it's from his inspiration, The Venice Cafe's, FB page.
Tumblr media
I can see why he wanted his home to look this, it's amazing.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I notice that they have pet turtles, too.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
No wonder he did his home like this, I'd never want to leave.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Outside, it looks like an architectural salvage yard.
Tumblr media
Sure wish I could buy that house and live here.

Capitol Living Quarters For Victors We Know And Love:
In my head the Victors get allocated blank space apartments on the floor of their district in the Tribute Centre for when they 'need' to be in the Capitol, whether for The Games or for clients. Maybe these rooms get memorialised after their deaths, maybe they get scrapped and left for the next victor, you decide. Here are some headcanons on their rooms.
Mags Flanagan:
Tumblr media
Simple and clean, reminiscent of home if slightly on the more luxurious side. Gravitates towards blues and whites, as it reminds her of the ocean. Usually has a scared tribute sleeping in here at least once a year, so it's very cosy and calming.
Finnick Odair:
Tumblr media
So I couldn't actually find a reference I was 100% happy with but this is the closest I could get. To me Finnick's room is full of reminders of home - seashell strings on the wall his sisters made, driftwood tables and stuff like that. I also think it's full of things that catch his eye - whether because it's almost impossible soft or kind of quirky, and even though it's kind of eclectic, the room is full of pale blues and soft yellows. I also like to think that he has a lot of art on his walls to remind him of the sea - most people get homesick but Finnick gets seasick.
Johanna Mason:
Tumblr media
So I reckon Johanna fully started this room expecting to lean fully into the District 7 aesthetic, but when her family was killed she tapped out and the Capitol designers were left to fill in the blanks. Consequently her room is like a mix of too much yet not enough home, and she despises the place. If she had to pick between being in this room or at home though, she'd always pick this room. Home has too many ghosts for Johanna.
Haymitch Abernathy:
Tumblr media
Haymitch's room is a mess, for sure. Littered with beer bottles and other booze whenever he's in it, but when he leaves it's always magically cleaned and smelling like citrus when he returns. It's filled with all sorts of cheap tat - most of it makeshift gifts received from the tributes he knowingly sent to their deaths as they knew they wouldn't be getting out alive. Those are the only things in that room he consistently dusts. He has a cactus too. That thing should be dead by now but it isn't. Maybe the cleaners water it.
Bonus round!
Katniss Everdeen:
Tumblr media
Katniss designing a bedroom? She would have scoffed and said no, leaving the Capitol (and probably Cinna) to sort it out in her stead. It wouldn't have been bad - it wouldn't have been her safe space sure, but to Katniss a room is a room. As long as she's got a bed, she doesn't care.
Peeta Mellark:
Tumblr media
Peeta's on the other hand would be simple but cozy. Let's be real, any tributes after them would probably gravitate towards Peeta if they were scared or struggling, as he's easily the most sensitive and comforting of the gang. So Peeta's room would be full of soft, squishy surfaces and blankets for when sniffling children knock on his door in the middle of the night, along with warm fairy lights and big windows.
Lucy Gray Baird:
Tumblr media
Didn't expect to see her here, did ya? Colourful, chaotic, and more than a little jarring to the eye, Lucy Gray's room would have been almost painful to look at. Everything in it has meaning, though, and don't you dare tell her to change anything if you don't wanna get sassed.
Effie Trinket:
Tumblr media
Hyper-feminine and rather stylish, Effie's Escort room would be the height of luxury befitting her station. Very comfortable, and slightly impractical in some instances but what does that matter when you have an aesthetic to maintain.
Coriolanus Snow:
Tumblr media
Stuck in the past. Nasty, horrible man. Ugh. enjoy your room of designer sadness sir.
Primrose Everdeen:
Tumblr media
Were Prim to ever have a Capitol bedroom, it would be full of pastel shades and jewel tones, comfy and cosy. Lots of cute decor and plants - she'd love watering them all. Probably lots of big pillows for buttercup to snooze on.

Following interior design subreddits is heartbreaking because, y’know, the average risk-averse homeowner. I now dread the word “accent wall” because it represents “fun!!” with a garish lack of commitment.
Someone will come in with a very unique, dramatic, decorated space, and they may as well not ask what color to paint the door, because the answer will ALWAYS be white. Oh, sorry— or eggshell. Gray, if we’re feeling nuts. Do you not want your door to be the focal point of your living room? Tough. The peanut gallery cannot permit your cozy atmosphere to become “too dark”. They also cry if their socks don’t match their pants.
I have white walls to compensate for my eclectic decor and my bright yellow teenage bedroom. But now I fantasize about painting all my walls algae green.

prompt idea, no pressure; what kinda style do you think each of them would decorate thei christmas tree in? who’s covering that shit in tinsel strands and rainbow lights? who has actual coordinated aesthetic ornaments and who has a chaotic eclectic collection? who has all the nostalgic family ornaments and a passed-down homemade tree skirt?
headcanons #3
christmas decorations - fluff
warnings - none!
josh
“josh, there doesn’t need to be decor in every room,” you would say to him.
he, of course, would ignore you and begin placing stuff everywhere. a main tree in the living room, a mini tree in the bedroom, fake wintery plants in the entry way, a mini santa figurine on the counter in the bathroom, and christmas themed dishes in the kitchen. that boy went all out for his favorite holiday. “just like my mom always did,” he would say.
putting up the christmas tree was his favorite. he got the biggest one that would fit in your house. rainbow lights and tinsel would be wrapped around it, and he had a massive box of matching glass ornaments. every color from red, to green, to purple. he would ask you to help hang them, showing you exactly where to place every one until the tree was absolutely covered. at the end, he would have you put the star on the top.
jake
jake is not one for matching his decorations. he liked the chaos of it all. everything around the house was different styles, shapes and colors. your stockings were red and purple. to you, most of it didn’t seem christmas themed, but he would just say “TRUST ME! it’ll look great in the end, angel.”
when it came to the tree, the chaos just got ten times worse. half the lights didn’t work, but he wouldn’t seem to mind. he would pull out a very damaged cardboard box and say “just take some and put them everywhere!”
once again, none of his ornaments matched. some were glass, some were plastic, some were fabric. you even pulled out a couple wooden ones. some were little figurines of fictional characters. “oh, i’ve been looking for that one for years!” he would say as you lifted a spiderman ornament out of the box.
none were your typical christmas tree ornaments, but all of them were so perfectly jake.
sam
despite loving the holiday, sammy isn’t not big on decoration. he always thought it was a waste of time to put up decor inside the house that no one would see, just to take it down a month later; however, he went with it this year to please you. surprisingly, he does have a tree. it isn’t very big, but you told him it would do just fine.
unlike his brothers, he doesn’t have a massive stash of ornaments. he just has a small shoebox with some carefully placed inside. you watched in awe as he pulled out an ornament that was a childhood picture of him and his brothers. he has a few other family themed ornaments, and then some basic glass bulbs, but that was it for sam’s decor.
danny
danny loves christmas (almost as much as josh.) hes big on color coordinated decorations.
he would start by putting up the tree—“white, of course, the best christmas color”— and then he would wrap a silver tree skirt around the bottom. next he would ask you to help wrap silver tinsel around the tree.
“silver is the second best christmas color.”
“i’m not even sure it’s technically a christmas color, dan.”
“yes it is!”
his tree ornaments were basic glass bulbs (matching the white and silver theme, of course.) he let you throw in a couple of your ornaments from home, knowing it would throw off the theme, but he does it because he loves you. “look, babe. i have a drumstick ornament for you,” he would give you the softest smile as you show him the mini drumstick.
the rest of the room is soon covered in white and grays. matching throw pillows and blankets on the couch, a centerpiece on the coffee table, gray striped stockings.

An Interior Designing Starting Guide- Avyukta Handbook
Some common questions we all have while working on a project. Avyukta is here to help you with answers for them.
What is the best color scheme for a small living room?
Light and neutral colors, such as whites, pastels, and soft grays, can help create a sense of openness and make the room appear larger. Avoid using dark or bold colors as they can make the space feel more cramped.
How to create a cohesive and balanced look in a bedroom?
Choose a consistent color palette and stick to it throughout the room. Use complementary patterns and textures to add visual interest without overwhelming the space. Make sure furniture and accessories are appropriately scaled and balanced in the room.
What are some tips for maximizing storage in a small kitchen?
Utilize vertical space by installing wall-mounted shelves or cabinets. Use organizers and dividers in drawers and cabinets to maximize storage efficiency. Consider utilizing the space above cabinets or using hanging racks for pots and pans.
How do to choose the right lighting fixtures for different rooms?
Consider the purpose of the room and the desired ambiance. For task lighting, such as in kitchens or home offices, opt for brighter, focused lighting. For ambient or mood lighting, choose fixtures that provide a softer, diffused glow. Combine different types of lighting, such as overhead lights, floor lamps, and table lamps, to create layers of light in a room.
What are the latest trends in bathroom design?
Some popular bathroom design trends include using natural materials like stone and wood, incorporating smart features like digital showers and touchless faucets, embracing bold and vibrant wallpaper or tile patterns, and creating spa-like atmospheres with features like freestanding bathtubs and rainfall showerheads.
How can one make home offices more functional and aesthetically pleasing?
Choose a comfortable and ergonomic desk chair and set up proper lighting for task-oriented work. Declutter the space and invest in storage solutions like shelves or file cabinets. Add personal touches and decor that inspire productivity and reflect your style.
What are some creative ways to incorporate artwork into home decor?
Create a gallery wall with a mix of framed artwork, photographs, and other decorative pieces. Use floating shelves or picture ledges to display artwork. Consider using oversized or statement pieces as focal points in a room. Experiment with different arrangements and heights to create visual interest.
How to create a welcoming and inviting entryway?
Ensure proper lighting to create a warm and inviting atmosphere. Incorporate a focal point such as an artwork, mirror, or decorative piece. Add functional elements like a console table or bench for storage and a place to sit. Use a rug or runner to define the space and add texture.
What are the key elements to consider when designing an open floor plan?
Establish zones or areas within the open space using furniture placement, rugs, or different flooring materials. Ensure visual harmony and consistency in color palette and style throughout the space. Consider using furniture with open or low profiles to maintain a sense of openness.
How to choose the right furniture and accessories to fit one's style and space?
Start by determining your desired style, whether it's modern, traditional, minimalist, or eclectic. Measure your space and consider the scale and proportion of furniture to ensure it fits properly. Choose furniture and accessories that complement the overall aesthetic and color scheme of the room. Don't forget to consider functionality and your specific needs.
We hope these answers help you with your interior design endeavors! Visit avyukta.com for further help and to find the perfect fittings for all your visions.

nutmeg ⇢ how’s your room/home decorated? do you have a specific theme or style going on?
Ooh, Jordan! Great question. I’ll answer based on my bedroom.
I struggle with interior design primarily because I am very eclectic and love some many aesthetics, but I tend to err on the side of lighter colors and minimalism for interiors.
My room is mostly neutrals (whites, creams, grays) with pops of color in the artwork, which is mostly odes to my home state Michigan and places I’ve traveled.
Not a lot of knickknacks. I avoid those like the plague, but I am a plant mom. My pride and joy is my seven-year-old fiddle leaf fig tree. He’s been to four states with me and is my oldest plant. He has four fiddle siblings and three cousins: Hoya, Jade and Philodendron. They’re often noticed in my Teams calls when I work from home :) And given the tight quarters of this city's real estate, he takes the majority of my room, so green is definitely in the color palette.
Overall, my room is sunny, lush and homey!
ask me, and i'll answer

How to Pick Bedding Accessories for a Cozy Yet Trendy Bedroom
Creating a bedroom that exudes comfort, style, and tranquility starts with selecting the right bedding accessories. At WeDezine, a premier interior design studio in Bangalore, we believe that bedding is more than just functional—it’s a core element in transforming your bedroom into a serene and stylish retreat. With the right bedding accessories, you can create a space that not only looks beautiful but also offers a luxurious, inviting atmosphere. Here’s a detailed guide to choosing the perfect bedding accessories to elevate your bedroom design.
1. What Are Bedding Accessories? The Essentials for a Beautiful Bed
Bedding accessories are the finishing touches that take your bed from basic to beautiful. They include:
Pillows (both decorative and functional)
Throws and blankets
Comforters and duvets
Duvet covers and bedspreads
Sheets (fitted, flat, and top)
Bed skirts and shams
Each of these elements serves a dual purpose: enhancing comfort and adding layers of style to your bedroom. Let’s dive into how to choose each accessory to achieve the perfect look and feel for your space.
2. Start with the Basics: Selecting the Right Sheets
Sheets are the foundation of your bedding, setting the tone for both comfort and style. Here’s what to consider:
Material: For Bangalore’s warm climate, breathable materials like cotton, linen, or bamboo are ideal. Egyptian cotton offers an ultra-soft, luxurious feel, while linen brings a relaxed, rustic texture.
Thread Count: While a higher thread count often means softer sheets, it's not the only factor. A count between 200 and 800 strikes a perfect balance between softness and durability.
Color and Pattern: Opt for sheets that complement your room’s palette. Neutral tones such as white, cream, or soft gray work well for a minimalist look, while patterned or colorful sheets can add personality and depth to modern or eclectic spaces.
3. Layer for Comfort and Style: Comforters, Duvets, and Blankets
The top layer of your bedding is where comfort meets style. Here’s how to choose the right one for your needs:
Comforters: Perfect for those who prefer an all-in-one solution. Choose a comforter that complements your room’s color scheme, adding warmth and cohesiveness to your space.
Duvets & Covers: Duvets offer versatility since you can easily switch out the cover to refresh your room’s look. Choose duvet covers that add texture, color, or pattern to create visual interest.
Throws & Blankets: A soft throw or blanket draped over the bed adds an inviting touch of coziness. Opt for materials like wool, faux fur, or a chunky knit to add texture and warmth.
4. Pillows: The Balance of Comfort and Aesthetic
Pillows not only provide support but also contribute to your bed’s overall design. When choosing pillows, consider:
Sleeping Pillows: Select pillows based on your preferred sleeping position. Firm pillows are great for back sleepers, while softer options suit side or stomach sleepers.
Decorative Pillows: Accent pillows bring flair to your bed. Mix and match sizes, shapes, and textures to create a layered, sophisticated look. Play with different patterns and colors, but keep the overall theme cohesive for a balanced appearance.
Avoid overcrowding your bed with too many decorative pillows, which can create a cluttered look. A few well-chosen pillows are enough to make a stylish statement.
5. The Finishing Touches: Bed Skirts and Shams
For a complete, polished look, bed skirts and shams are essential:
Bed Skirts: A bed skirt hides the area beneath your bed and adds a tailored, finished look to the room. Choose one in a color that complements your bedding for a seamless design.
Shams: Pillow shams add an extra layer of elegance to your bed. Match them with your duvet cover or comforter to create a cohesive, sophisticated style.
6. Play with Textures and Layers
The key to creating a luxurious, inviting bed is in layering different textures. Pair smooth cotton sheets with a quilted bedspread or a knit throw. Silk or velvet pillows can add a touch of softness, while a textured duvet cover introduces depth and richness to your bedding.
Layering not only adds dimension but also gives your bed a designer look. Start with fitted sheets, add a top sheet and a lightweight blanket, then finish with a duvet or comforter. Decorative pillows and a throw complete the ensemble, adding that final touch of comfort and style.
7. Adapt Your Bedding to the Seasons
Bangalore’s climate can range from warm to cool, so it’s important to adjust your bedding accordingly. During the warmer months, opt for lightweight, breathable sheets and duvet covers. When the temperature drops, swap these out for heavier comforters, wool blankets, and plush throws to keep your bedroom cozy and comfortable.
8. Balancing Style and Practicality
While it’s essential to create a visually stunning bedroom, functionality should not be overlooked. Choose bedding materials that are easy to care for and durable, especially if you have children or pets. Machine-washable fabrics like cotton or microfiber make maintenance simple and hassle-free without compromising on style.
9. Reflect Your Personal Style
Your bedding should reflect your unique style and personality. Whether you prefer a sleek, modern aesthetic with clean lines and neutral tones or a bohemian vibe with bold colors and eclectic patterns, your bedding should make you feel relaxed and at home. Choose colors and patterns that speak to you, creating a sanctuary that feels personal and welcoming.
10. Get Expert Help from an Interior Designer

How to Match Paint Colors with Your Home Décor
Choosing the perfect paint color for your home can be both exciting and overwhelming. The right color can transform a room, enhancing its appeal and reflecting your personal style. However, with so many options available, it can be challenging to find a shade that harmonizes with your existing décor. In this guide, we'll walk you through the essential steps to help you match paint colors with your home décor, creating a cohesive and beautiful space.
1. Understand Your Décor Style
Before selecting a paint color, consider your existing décor style. Is your home modern, traditional, rustic, or eclectic? Each style has a palette that naturally complements it. For instance:
Modern Décor: Opt for neutral tones like white, gray, or black, with occasional pops of bold color.
Traditional Décor: Earthy tones, such as beige, cream, and deep blues or greens, can work beautifully.
Rustic Décor: Warm, natural shades like terracotta, warm browns, and olive greens add a cozy feel.
Eclectic Décor: This style allows for more flexibility, where you can mix vibrant colors and patterns.
Understanding your style will help you narrow down color choices that match and enhance your existing furniture, textiles, and decorative elements.
2. Consider the Room’s Function and Mood
Different rooms in your home serve different purposes, and their paint color should reflect their function. For example:
Living Room: This is often a space for socializing and relaxation. Warm, inviting shades like soft beige, muted blues, or light grays can create a comfortable atmosphere.
Bedroom: Opt for calming, serene colors like pastel blues, greens, or lavender to promote relaxation and sleep.
Kitchen: Light, bright colors like white, yellow, or soft pastels can make a kitchen feel airy and clean.
Home Office: Consider colors that enhance concentration and productivity, like muted greens or blues.
The mood you want to create in each space should guide your choice of paint colors.
3. Use the 60-30-10 Rule
Interior designers often use the 60-30-10 rule to achieve a balanced color scheme in a room. This rule suggests:
60% of the room should be a dominant color (like the walls).
30% should be a secondary color (like furniture).
10% should be an accent color (like accessories or artwork).
For example, if you choose a soft gray as your dominant color, you might select navy blue for your furniture and pops of mustard yellow for accents. This rule helps maintain a cohesive look without overwhelming the space.
4. Consider Lighting
Lighting significantly affects how paint colors appear in your home. Natural light can make colors look brighter, while artificial light may cast different hues. Here are some tips:
North-Facing Rooms: These rooms tend to have cooler, dimmer light. Warm colors can help counteract this and make the space feel cozier.
South-Facing Rooms: These rooms get a lot of natural light, making both cool and warm tones look great.
East-Facing Rooms: These rooms receive warm light in the morning and cooler light in the afternoon. Soft blues, greens, and grays work well.
West-Facing Rooms: These rooms have the opposite lighting pattern, so consider warmer tones to balance the cool afternoon light.
Test paint samples on your walls and observe them at different times of the day to see how they look under various lighting conditions.
5. Find Inspiration in Existing Décor
Look around your home for color inspiration. Your furniture, rugs, artwork, and accessories can provide clues for paint colors. Pick a shade from a patterned item, such as a throw pillow or a piece of artwork, and use it as a base for your wall color. This approach ensures that the new paint will complement your existing décor.
6. Try Sample Paints First
Always test paint samples on your walls before committing to a color. Paint a small section of the wall and observe how it looks throughout the day. This will help you determine whether the color complements your décor and fits the mood you want to create.
7. Use Color Tools and Apps
Many paint brands offer online tools and apps to help you visualize paint colors in your home. These tools allow you to upload a photo of your room and apply different colors to see how they would look in real life. Using these tools can give you confidence in your color choices before making a final decision.
