DEVIN ASHTON - Gossip and the Rain

Amid a critically acclaimed film, a successful role in a Wideway musical and now a Simflix series dedicated to all his feuds and problematic behavior in the entertainment industry, we look back on the former One Reflection member's debut solo album as its released on vinyl for the first time.

Devin Ashton and his record label Maxis Music Machine have announced that they will be releasing Ashton's first two albums on vinyl, including his solo debut album Gossip and the Rain.

Gossip and the Rain is the solo debut album by Simerican entertainer Devin Ashton. Released via Maxis Music Machine, it was released after he departed from the pop group One Reflection and, therefore, makes him the first former member of the group to release a solo album.

A pop record with alternative and indie pop influences, Ashton wrote all the original songs on the album while its production was handled by acclaimed award-winning producers Buster Round, Ebenezer Clavier, Bart Hammer, Aria Trill and Suzy Strummer. The album features one covered song, "Spinning The Wheel".

Despite low expectations from critics of the album's quality considering Ashton's reputation at the time, the album received mixed to positive reviews, receiving zero negative reviews from professional critics. Critics praised the album's production and considered it the album's "saving grace"; Ashton's writing and vocal performance received mixed responses, with some noting that pitch correction was heavily used on Ashton's vocals.

The album debuted at number twenty-five on the Simboard 200 and ultimately peaked at number twelve. It has since been certified Platinum by the Plumbob Recording Assocation Academy (PRAA).

The album spawned four singles: "Help Me Run Away", "Spinning the Wheel", "Somebody Else" and "Physical", which were all released in quick succession from each other. The album's first three singles reached the top forty on the Simboard Heat 100 while its final single, "Physical", reached the top twenty.

SINGLES FROM THE ALBUM

The album's singles (from clockwise starting top left): "Help Me Run Away", "Somebody Else", "Spinning The Wheel" and "Physical".

"Help Me Run Away"; [Simboard Heat 100 peak: #30]. Devin's solo debut single.

"Somebody Else"; [Simboard Heat 100 peak: #34]. Another artist quickly covered and released their version as single, with it charting higher that Devin's original version.

"Spinning The Wheel"; [Simboard Heat 100 peak: #21; certified Gold]. Originally done by a legendary singer and released earlier in his career, long before Devin even began singing professionally, Devin covered the song for fun but was surprised the label chose it to be released as a single. Though the legendary singer appreciated Devin's version, he asked the label (that they were both signed to) to pull it from radio which they obliged, ultimately halting promotion for Devin's version. The legendary singer then re-released his original version, where it reached the top ten on the Simboard Heat 100. Of all the singles on the album, Devin did not film a video for this single. Many speculated that it would've reached the top twenty had it continued to be promoted by the label.

Devin was roasted for the album's surprisingly (and relatively) low first week sales as many expected better from a former member of the most popular boy band in the world, One Reflection - even if he was the least popular member of said group! Despite the album not receiving any nominations during the awards seasons, Ashton quickly released his sophomore album which received a better critical response and got him his first nominations and his first top ten hits as well!

The album's release on vinyl comes after an extremely busy time for the multi-hypenated entertainer. Not only did he receive acclaim for his acting performances in the film Good Broadcasting Service this past Summer and in the Wideway musical hit Security this past Spring, he is now the main subject of scandalous new Simflix docuseries titled Everyone Hates Devin, which details his past and current feuds and his supposed problematic antics in the entertainment industry. The show has received positive reviews so far though Devin has yet to comment on it.

Courtesy of Maxis Music Machine, the album is now available on vinyl in two colors: black and cobalt blue! Also available on CD, cassette, digital download and streaming.

Elimination round 3

The Love Loft, season 1 episode 9

You can watch the livestream replay on my YouTube channel, though this round was short, so I went ahead and moved on to the first half of the final round.

This round is different from the previous rounds in that it consists of groups dates only--no one-on-one dates. The first group date was for the entire household, and they went to--you guessed it--the fall festival.

Jessica won the pie-eating contest, despite not needing to eat human food.

After the outing at the fall festival, Ebenezer went on two smaller group outings. First, he hung out with Tiara and Shu. They critiqued art at the Art Gallery and then let loose at The Grind.

The next group outing was also at a club. Ebenezer took Jessica and Katelyn to the Brightmore for some dancing and bubble-blowing.

Before he knew it, it was time to eliminate two contestants from the household. He was sad to see Shu go because he had never met an alien before, but he felt much closer to Tiara and Katelyn. Besides, he could sense that there was something going with between her and Maura; he didn't want to stand in the way of that.

As for Jessica, when she left, he breathed a huge sigh of relief, lol.

What year is Sunset Valley based? (Or useless information that is only relevant for my story)

So over the last 5/6 years I’ve been developing ideas and headcanons to help my dyslexic brain create the world for my series better.  This includes random headcanons, family trees and Birthdays for everyone. 

And for years and years, I’ve been writing and rewriting a big sunset valley story and I wanted to be able to get the ages of sims, along with events that happen in their lives consistent. 

So I’ve written all the sims 3 neighbourhoods down, looked at all my headcanons plus what families exist in each neighbourhood to determine what years they could be based in.

However what I’ve decided basically changes the technology and bios and of sims and the neighbourhoods as they are presented in game (Example would be the Calientes and Brokes) 

Here we go! 

First things first, there are a few neighbourhoods that can fit into any era as they do not contain any characters or families from other neighbourhoods/ games.  Appaloosa Plains and Bridgeport, Port Able. 

However I’ve decided that Bridgeport is based in the 1920′s due to the fact I made the deceased sim Lotta Greaves a member of the Landgraab family. Timeline wise she would have given birth around the 1900s before she died yet a young adult named Ebenezer Clavier knows her when she’s resurrected. 

Appaloosa Plains and Port Able however can be just set at any point so who cares? Not me. Also for obvious reasons I will be excluding worlds that are holiday destinations and the university world. 

Okay, here me go. The List of sims 3 worlds/neighbourhood and the years I’m basing them in (When you first play them) 

Just imagine all the sims are dressed for the eras rather than having emo haircuts or something. Also when a year says something like “(1970-1979)” that means I can base the start of the neighbourhood at any point between those years.

The original sims game takes place around 1988-1990 and all sims 2 neighbourhoods are all taking place at some point in 2015. 

Sims 4 is an AU so although the neighbourhood/worlds exists in my story, none of the families/story counts so I can place them where ever I want.

Suzy Strummer and Ebenezer Clavier are Bridgeport sims, like Bo and Flo, so their appearance isn’t all that random. In fact, Suzy and Lilly-Bo are buddies in TS3, so for my purposes, this party is where they met.

I promised to do character profiles way back when, so that’s still on the list. But one quick note: in her proper game, Suzy Strummer plays...the drums. Probably because, iirc, guitar was the only instrument in the game until Late Night/ Bridgeport so they wanted to show off the new ones, but still. Her name is Suzy Strummer and so in my rendition, strummin' be what she does!

Renfield Knows It All #01

Hi, this is Renfield, the brightest star in The Elvira Show. We are back to our regular programming and if you have no idea what I’m talking about - I pity your ignorance - this is the subject.

On the first episode, the story begins when Elvira and her aunt Minerva meet Paige, Elvira’s niece. These now three witches will have to hide their magic powers through the provincial life of small town Freslock Bay.

Did you know the cops were actually Billy Caspian and Ebenezer Clavier from Bridgeport and Riverview? Unsurprisingly not fun but oh well, that’s a fact.

Since I’ve been incredibly busy and I’m already two weeks behind Halloween Photo Challenge, I’ll just interpret it as a 7-day-experience and get back to my usual boring gameplay.

Also I had to change my monitor, so colors are probably coming out just a little bit different now.

After a fun vacation in China with Tiara, it was time to head off to Al Simhara with Katelyn.

Their first night there, they visted the market. Ebenezer tried snake charming for the first time; he was actually pretty good at it.

The pair had an excellent dinner at the market, though the curry was a bit too spicy for Katelyn's liking.

They had their first woohoo in a tent in a secluded fishing spot up in the hills. Nothing like catching slimy frogs to get you in the mood, lol.

Katelyn tried some snake charming too, but the snake wasn't interested.

Overall, it was a pretty good vacation. Ebenezer almost didn't want it to end, because once it was over, he would have to go back to the loft and break someone's heart.

After returning home, Ebenezer decided to take another day to collect his thoughts before he made his choice. Over the course of the day, though, it became pretty clear who he was more interested in.

Even with Katelyn in the same room, Ebenezer gravitated toward Tiara.

He wanted to be with her.

To decompress a little before the final round officially started, Ebenezer decided to throw a costume party for Spooky Day. He invited all the contestants that had been eliminated, as well as Kara and Kylie from the previous household.

Kara showed up in a hot-dog costume, lol.

The party was a bit of a mess, to be honest. Everyone congretated in the lobby instead of coming up to the loft. A lot of people got bored early on and left. Oh well. Time to start the final round: one-on-one vacations.

In the previous household, Ebenezer went on vacation to France with Kara. They had their first woohoo there and made so many other fond memories. As much as he loved Champs le Sims, though, the memories still hurt a bit, knowing that Kara had chosen Kylie over him. So France was out.

He and Tiara went to China instead.

Skinny dipping in the Forbidden City pools was a popular activity between the two of them; the locals didnt seem to mind.

Tiara was very comfortable walking around base camp in her lingerie.

Ebenezer picked a beautiful spot to serenade Tiara with his piano skills.

She was very...impressed.

Elimination round 2

As seems to be becoming tradition, the next round kicked off with a group outing to the summer festival. A good time was had all around.

After the group outing, it was time for Ebenezer to take each contestant out on the town for some more one-on-one time.

An evening of dancing and bar food at the Brightmore with Tiara.

Jessica insisted on going to a small bar hidden underneath the cemetary. While he had fun, Ebenezer was definitely creeped out the whole time.

At the end of this round, Ebenezer felt like he had a better grasp of who he was clicking with. Unfortunately, he just wasn't feeling it with either Sugar or Maura, so they had to go.

This was actually the second household that both of them had been eliminated from. Ouch.

First elimination round

The Love Loft, season 1 episode 7

You can watch the livestream replay on my YouTube channel. Fair warning, though, my chat got invaded by trolls around the 2.5 hour mark, and things got a bit tense for a little while. Anyway, moving on.

The household began the first round of eliminations by having a group outing at the Spring Festival. It was a bit of a mixed bag, but it was an acceptable outing overall.

Ebenezer spent the entire week locked in the upstairs date suite while the contestants rotated in and out like a revolving door. He got stir crazy eventually, but it was worth it.

The first contestant up for a date was Shu. She and Ebenezer were able to bond over their shared loved of music, with Shu being a Virtuoso and Ebenezer having a high level of piano skill.

His dates with Tiara and Katelyn went really well. He and Katelyn autonomously slow danced quite often.

It was around this point that the producers discovered that one of the contestants, Mia Huber, was Ebenezer’s long-lost half sister. (oops!) They scrambled for a replacement and decided to bring back a fan-favorite from the previous household: Maura Espinoza. True to form, she barked like a dog and talked to herself during most of her date with Ebenezer, lol.

Marie Gray, the Avante Garde Supernatural Skeptic, was more interested in critiquing the fern in the corner than actually spending time with Ebenzer.

Ebenezer also had dates with Jessica and Sugar, but they really didn’t leave much of an impression. 

At the end of the round, Ebenezer wasn’t super impressed with Marie’s obsessive discussions about witch-hunts, so she was asked to leave the household.

Meet the Clavier Household!

The Love Loft, season 1 episode 6

After Kara Graham and her new love Kylie moved out of the loft, my Twitch chat voted for Ebenezer to remain and become the new head of household. I gave him a quick makeover and spent the rest of the stream auditioning a new set of contestants--all female this time because Ebenezer has a strong preference for women, according to MasterController.

Shuyel Ne’Xafughos

“Shu” is the first alien contestant in the history of the savegame. [She showed up just in time too. I was about to use a debug cheat to force an alien visit, but she arrived only a few moments later--no cheats required.] No one knows why she came to Earth in the first place, and she doesn’t talk about her home very much, but so far, she seems to be integrating into the group fairly well.

Since Shu doesn’t need to sleep, she spends her evenings upgrading all the appliances in the loft; she’s pretty handy that way. When she’s not banging on toilets with a hammer, you can find her playing guitar for the other contestants; she’s pretty much a virtuoso with any instrument she can get her hands on, terrestrial or otherwise. Despite having such strong skills in handiness and music, she struggles with low self-esteem and commitment issues. 

She also thinks its strange that humans eat meat.

Jessica has the distinction of not only being the first vampire contestant, but also being the first evil Sim to reside in the loft.

Meet the Graham household!

The Love Loft, season 1 episode 1

Kara Graham

Kara is the main bachelorette of this household. She’s a hopeless romantic, but also unflirty, so the suitors will have to build more relationship with her before they can do anything romantic.

During the first episode, I “auditioned” Sims for the household by inviting over random Sims using the Sim Finder App that comes with the Social Networking skill. The Sim had to meet one of two qualifications in order to be added to the household: 1) compatible zodiac sign or 2) Kara had to find them attractive. I repeated the process until the household was full. I ended up with a mix of EA premade Sims and randomly-generated ones. 

You can meet the contestants under the cut. Unless stated otherwise, all Sims are Young Adults. EA premade Sims are marked as (EA).

Kylie Snider

Kylie is shy and prefers to keep to herself. If you were to invite her to a party, she’s the one who would rather makes friends with the host’s cat than mingle with the guests.

Tyler Hale

Tyler is a kind, down-to-earth kind of guy. He has a great sense of humor that most of the other Sims find endearing.

Apollo Bloom (EA)

Apollo is a local celebrity the producers cast in order to get some publicity and add some drama. He’s pretty much a jerk to everyone, including Kara, despite the fact that he actually does care about her.

Ebenezer Clavier (EA)

Ebenezer is a good fairy who finds it easy to make friends, even with the likes of Apollo. He’s also a daredevil and enjoys the adrenaline rush of partaking in dangerous activities.

Sugar Bijou (EA)

Sugar is a flirty socialite who’s perfectly comfortable walking around the loft in her lingerie all day.

Harry Marks (EA)

Harry is an inappropriate fairy who made a very poor first impression during his audition, but the producers decided to cast him anyway (for the ratings, of course). 

Maura Espinoza

Maura is a “quirky aunt” kind of Sim. You may catch her having heated arguments with herself or galloping around the loft like a horse. Despite her quirks, or maybe because of them, other Sims find her irresistable.
