The BBC and Red Planet Pictures have revealed that Don Gilet (Sherwood, EastEnders, The Beekeeper, Shetland) will be the new lead detective in ratings-smash crime drama Death in Paradise.
Making his debut in a feature-length Christmas special later this year, before a brand-new series in 2025, Gilet will play Detective Inspector Mervin Wilson - who arrives on the idyllic island of Saint Marie from London, and isn’t overly pleased with his new surroundings…
Gilet has recently begun filming in Guadeloupe, alongside returning Death in Paradise regulars Don Warrington, Shantol Jackson, Ginny Holder, Élizabeth Bourgine and Danny John-Jules.
Don Gilet says: “Being offered the new lead role in Death in Paradise feels like a deeply loved and incredibly precious jewel has been placed in my hands. This is a big show, with a big heart and the love continually grows for it. It is my intention to never lose sight of that and to remain grateful, humbled and dedicated. Even during those testing times when every sinew is screaming at me to run off the set and dive into the sea, swimming pool or an ice-cold beer – whichever happens to be closer at the time!
Tim Key, Executive Producer for Red Planet Pictures, says: “Don is an amazing actor and we’re delighted that he’s joining us as the show enters another exciting new era. We’ve got huge plans for
the new series and beyond, and I can’t wait for the audience to meet Mervin and to see what we’ve got in store...”
Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, says: “We could not be happier to welcome Don to the series. Already known to BBC viewers from the likes of Sherwood, EastEnders, and Doctor Who, he’s long been one of the UK’s most exciting actors. Death in Paradise is in brilliant hands - roll on Christmas!”
Offering the perfect cocktail of sun-soaked escapism, shimmering seas and clear blue skies, the detective drama enters its fourteenth year on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, with its much-loved combination of magnificent murder mysteries and plot twists which leave audiences on the edge of their seats.
BBC Studios, who distribute the series, have now licensed Death in Paradise to over 230 territories across the globe. It was recently announced that following the successful launch of spin-off series Beyond Paradise last year, the Death in Paradise franchise will build on its international success with new Australia-set spin-off series Return to Paradise, airing later this year on the BBC and on ABC in Australia. Death in Paradise is a Red Planet Pictures production for the BBC made with the support of the region of Guadeloupe and internationally distributed by BBC Studios. The feature-length Christmas special and 2025 series will be executive produced by Tim Key and Amy Rodriguez for Red Planet Pictures and Danielle Scott-Haughton for BBC, and series produced by Sue Howells. All series of Death in Paradise are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.

Rose Ayling-Ellis MBE is joining the cast of Season 2 41! Rose will be joining Ncuti Gatwa’s Fourteenth Doctor for a thrilling and frightening adventure in the upcoming forty-first season of Doctor Who, which will air in 2025.
Russell T Davies, Showrunner, said: “We always want guest actors on Doctor Who to have fun, but Rose takes it to a whole new level. She storms in with an astonishing performance of terror, anger and bravery in one of the most frightening episodes we’ve ever made.”
Rose Ayling-Ellis, said: “I loved Doctor Who when I was growing up, so being cast in the show was a dream come true. My inner child is ecstatic with excitement! Working with Russell and filming alongside the talented cast and crew has been an incredible experience. Ncuti is a wonderful Doctor, and I can’t wait for audiences to see what we have created together.”
This year, Rose has been awarded an MBE for voluntary services to the deaf community, and she became the first deaf presenter of live sport at the Paralympic Games. She was also the subject of an instalment of genealogy series Who Do You Think You Are? and appeared in the recent BBC One comedy drama, Ludwig. Rose became the first ever deaf actress to play a deaf character in EastEnders and she won Strictly Come Dancing in 2021, subsequently winning the BAFTA TV Award for ‘Must-See Moment’ in 2022.
Before seeing Rose in action in Season 41, catch the Doctor and his new friend Joy in the upcoming Christmas special, Joy to the World.

Doctor Who was the most watched scripted programme this Christmas, beating Call The Midwife, Eastenders, and Ghosts. The Church On Ruby Road received 4.73 million viewers, which is 100k more than the previous special The Giggle. It’s also the first time a Doctor Who Christmas special has ever made it to number 1. Ncuti Gatwa’s debut as the Doctor is an undeniable success. Watch as the anti-woke brigade try to spin this as a disaster. It’s pathetic. 🤣

Death in Paradise has revealed that former EastEnders actor Don Gilet is taking over from Ralf Little as the show's lead detective.
The news will come as a huge surprise to fans, with Harry Potter actor Rupert Grint, Friday Night Dinner star Simon Bird and Gavin & Stacey's Mathew Horne all thought to be at the top of the shortlist for the part.
However, no one had linked Don Gilet's name to the top cop role and bosses will be thrilled they've managed to keep his name under wraps! The makers shared a snap of 57-year-old Don, below, preparing to shoot his first scenes in Guadeloupe, which doubles for Saint Marie. He's been filming alongside co-stars Don Warrington, Shantol Jackson, Ginny Holder, Élizabeth Bourgine and Danny John-Jules.
He will play Detective Inspector Mervin WiIson — who arrives on the idyllic island of Saint Marie from London, and isn't overly pleased with his new surroundings…
Don will first be seen in the upcoming Christmas special, before appearing in the Death in Paradise season 14, which will go out in 2025.
Don, who's also enjoyed parts in Sherwood, Shetland and Doctor Who, says: "Being offered the new lead role in Death in Paradise feels like a deeply loved and incredibly precious jewel has been placed in my hands. This is a big show, with a big heart and the love continually grows for it. It is my intention to never lose sight of that and to remain grateful, humbled and dedicated. Even during those testing times when every sinew is screaming at me to run off the set and dive into the sea, swimming pool or an ice-cold beer — whichever happens to be closer at the time!"
Tim Key, Executive Producer for Red Planet Pictures, says: "Don is an amazing actor and we're delighted that he’s joining us as the show enters another exciting new era. We've got huge plans for the new series and beyond, and I can't wait for the audience to meet Mervin and to see what we’ve got in store…"
Death in Paradise swats will note that like Ralf Little before him, Don has actually been in the show before. He popped up in "Stab in the Dark", an episode that went out in 2015 back when Kris Marshall was on detecting duties on Saint Marie as DI Humphrey Goodman.
Lindsay Salt, Director of BBC Drama, adds: "We could not be happier to welcome Don to the series. Already known to BBC viewers from the likes of Sherwood, EastEnders, and Doctor Who, he’s long been one of the UK's most exciting actors. Death in Paradise is in brilliant hands — roll on Christmas!"
Meanwhile, fans can also look forward to Death in Paradise spin off Return to Paradise, which is set in Australia.

Thanks for the tag, @lovelikewildness! <3
So, wanted to get some hiatus rec lists going and encourage some self promo in my friends so how about sharing your top fics no matter how big or small - give us the links to your wonderful words with the Most hits/Most kudos/Most comments/Most bookmarks /Most words/Least words
AO3
Most Everything: Sed Me Domum et Aedificabo a Throno | Game of Thrones | Daenerys x Jorah | Rated T. [Showverse] Jorah Mormont had been there at the start of Daenerys Targaryen’s new journey. He’d be by her side until its end.
It comes top in all categories apart from bookmarks, but that's kind of boring. xD So I'll put the runners-up here too.
Second Most Hits: Vivat Crescat Floreat | Game of Thrones | Daenerys x Jorah | Rated M. [Showverse] She tells him that she has been grappling with things she can no longer ignore. Things that were as dormant as those three petrified dragon eggs once were. Things that came alive inside her not from fire, but in the icy, barren snows of Winterfell.
Second Most Kudos: Tokens of Deep Affection | Wreck-It Ralph | Felix x Calhoun | Rated T. Tammy. She has never been more ill-equipped for a nickname.
Second Most Comments: A Meeting of Fates | Downton Abbey | Anna x Bates | Rated M. Anna is a maid travelling with the Earl of Grantham and his family to Newport, visiting Lady Grantham's family. John is seeking a new life in America, away from his past sins. Sparks fly on the ship of dreams and startling revelations promise to change both of their lives for good, but when the ship hits the ice they are not guaranteed a happy end.
Most Bookmarks: Magic in Mundanity | The Incredibles | Mr. Incredible/Bob Parr x Elastigirl/Helen Parr | Rated T. So when Winston tells them that some more media positivity would be great for the cause, Bob rubs his hands together in glee and Helen’s smile is more like a grimace.
(Third)Most Subscriptions (SMDeAaT and VCF are first and second here, this is a three-way tie):
Sic Infit | Game of Thrones | Daenerys x Jorah | Rated T. [Showverse] There are a thousand things Daenerys must face in the wake of the Long Night.
Joy is not in Things | The Incredibles | Mr. Incredible/Bob Parr x Elastigirl/Helen Parr | Rated T. The changes come fast, and they come with the ferocity of a hurricane, with a hatred that Helen doesn't think any of them were expecting..
And Beauty There Echoes the Speck of Our Souls| EastEnders | Suki x Eve | Rated T. A collection of oneshots inspired by text message prompts.
Most words: Technically it's an Anna/Bates fic that I've never published publicly, but other than that it's A Meeting of Fates.
Least words: Privacy | Downton Abbey | Robert x Cora | Rated T. Robert and Cora discuss the importance of privacy.
FFN
Most Comments: Yesterday's Musings | Downton Abbey | Robert x Cora | Rated T. A marriage that has spanned three decades. Three beautiful daughters. The rise and fall of everything they've ever known. And still they love each other. Drabbles based on Robert and Cora's relationship, pre-series one through Christmas Special 2011.
Most Favourites: Seeing is Believing | Pokémon | Jessie x James | Rated M. Jessie, James, and Meowth decide to steal future-seeing Pokémon for profit, but when Jessie gets separated from her friends in the confusion of trying to capture one, it reveals things about her future that she didn't even think were possible...
(Third) Most Follows (top was AMoF): The Shadow Proves the Sunshine | Downton Abbey | Anna x Bates | Rated T. S4 spec-fic. Anna and John's life together is pushed to the limit by the arrival of the charming Mr Green, who turns out to be anything but. When the unthinkable happens and they are left to deal with the consequences, can they ever be happy again?
I tag @fandomsbyladymelodrama, @salzrand, @clarasimone, @gettingovergreta, @rileypotter17, @wizfrog, @markcampbells if you want to do it. :)
#personal#ask memes#thanks for the tag!!#and even though I went to second and third place for some--some of the results actually surprised me!#was not expecting a WiR fic to have the second-most kudos#or an EE fic to tie for subscriptions!

25 Days of Sleighpairs: Frobby | Freddie Slater x Bobby Beale (EastEnders) + “Crackers”
Requested by Anonymous
Flipping through channels was pointless, Bobby was beginning to realize. There was never anything good on during the holidays, and he didn't feel much like watching any Christmas specials. He was considering just sticking on a DVD when Freddie dropped onto the sofa.
Immediately, he invaded his space, leaning in close, their thighs pressed together. Bobby found that he didn't mind. Actually, he'd found that he didn't mind a lot of things when it came to Freddie.
He held out a silver cracker to him. 'Fun fact, Bob. Did you know that crackers were invented by a bloke called Tom Smith. I think he was a baker, but basically, he reckoned everyone would get a kick out of pulling something, having it crack, then getting a sweet inside it.'
Bobby furrowed his brows, confused as to where this was going, but he was smiling. He couldn't help himself. There was something infectious about his happiness.
'What I'm getting at is that there is nothing inherently Christmas-y about crackers,' he explained, waving it in front of him. 'So, even though you don't celebrate Christmas, you can still get a kick out of pulling a cracker and getting a paper hat and a stupid joke. Right?'
He added the last part uncertainly, a doubtful look contorting his features. It was almost comical that he'd gone to so much effort just to find a way to include him, even though they'd just had dinner together with his family, and he hadn't been able to refuse anyone buying him a present despite his protests. It was typical Freddie, finding loopholes.
On the other hand, it was... typical Freddie. Thoughtful. Sweet.
'I mean, I know that, technically, this is a Christmas cracker, but it's just the name, innit?'
'Okay,' Bobby said, laughing. 'Okay, I'll pull the cracker. You didn't have to research the history of it just to convince me, you know.'
He took one end, and Freddie held the other. After a moment, it snapped with a quick crack, leaving the bigger end in Freddie's hand. He took out the orange paper crown and place it atop his curls - lopsided, of course.
'How do I look?' he asked, grinning and spreading his arms. 'Do I make a good king, Bob?'
'It suits you,' Bobby agreed. 'King Freddie of Walford. Very regal.'
Freddie made a face at that, and Bobby assumed it was because he didn't entirely know what "regal" meant but he didn't ask. He waved it off and turned to nod at the TV, leaving the crown on his head.
'What were you putting on?' he asked.
'Oh, nothing. There's never anything good on.'
Freddie snorted. 'You sound like my nan.'
'Well, I was thinking about a DVD, but I couldn't decide...'
Freddie's features contorted again as he bit his lip, staring toughfully at the TV. Then he clicked his fingers and lit up brighter than the lights on the tree.
'I've got the perfect holiday movie. It's a classic.'
'I don't really...'
'Shrek.'
Bobby blinked. 'Shrek?'
'Come on, everyone loves Shrek! My mum and I used to watch it all the time when I was younger, especially at the holidays. I don't know why.'
Smiling, Bobby held his hands up and said, 'Alright, Shrek it is.'
He found the DVD and put it on. When he sat back down on the sofa, Freddie shifted closer, or maybe he was just getting more comfortable. He bent his leg, his knee resting on Bobby's thigh. His arm had extended across the back of the sofa as well, behind Bobby, and when he sat back, his hand dropped onto his shoulder. His restless fingers automatically picked up the collar of his jumper, the chain around his neck, brushing against his skin.
It tickled a bit, but it was also weirdly nice, so he didn't say anything. Just as he hadn't any of the previous times he'd started doing it, seemingly without realizing, worried he'd stop.
The thought that he didn't want him to stop worried him even more, but not enough to do anything about it. He just hoped that he wouldn't be able to feel the flush of warmth following his touch.
His dad and Cindy left to continue celebrating at The Vic, but Peter and Lauren joined them, curling up on the other sofa with Louie between them.
When Freddie got tired up being upright about twenty minutes in, he sprawled out. His feet dangled off the arm of the sofa while he rested his head in Bobby's lap, the paper crown getting tossed to the floor with the cracker shell it had come from. He didn't seem to be aware of that, either.
Out of the corner of his eyes, Bobby swore he saw Lauren nudge Peter while looking over at them, but when he glanced in their direction, they were both focused on the TV, so maybe he was just imagining things. Maybe it was all just a dream.
If it was, he didn't want to wake up. Not yet.

Also taking notes from Neville’s mum, Naomi attempts to loosen up and focus on herself outside of work – but is she about to make things awkward between herself and a close friend at the Christmas party? And is Neville the man responsible for putting an awkward stop to Commissioner Selwyn Patterson’s big Christmas lights switch on?

Darren Lamb, here.
Talent agent, as you may know - of course you do. You might recognise me as the agent for such stars as Barry off Eastenders, and Andy Millman from The Wind in the Willows- When The Wind Blows- When The. When.
WHEN THE WHISTLE BLOWS, that's it! Right, so, I take 12.5% usually and 15% for adverts, but that's subject to change depending on my choices alone. Got any questions (and why wouldn't you, for the greatest agent himself?), shoot 'em in the old ask box, and I'll get to them shortly~
Information about this Roleplay Blog and Character:
Darren still works at the agency with Barry as his "receptionist".
Darren still has Andy and Barry as clients, among a few others that he doesn't often mention. Occasionally, he takes on Maggie for roles.
Darren currently lives in his own apartment and often lets Barry stay with him when he's got nowhere else to stay, but often uses this to his advantage.
Darren flickers between different girls, but ultimately still misses and likes maggie, so pines after her.
Darren's got an ego problem, but really its a facade to try and cover up his underlying insecurity.
Pre-Christmas Special content, though it may be discussed at some point.
Non-canon plotlines will be included.
There'll be a disclaimer in the tags of posts but I must reiterate that THIS IS NOT AN ACTUAL TALENT AGENCY. Darren's not a good talent agent, so you wouldn't want him regardless.
Extras is a 15+ show, so this blog will contain 15+ content.
Multi-shipping is okay, but there will be main themes of Daggie and Platonic Darrey.

There's some stuff where I wasn't sure whether they counted as movies or not like TV specials & stuff- Spongebob musical, Little Britain Live, an EastEnders thing, and one of the Wallace & Gromit short films. It's been a shit year for me. My friend died earlier this year and I didn't really feel like watching anything sometimes especially horrors (even though she liked horror). The Wallace & Gromit one I actually watched with my family the day she died & I didn't even know.
