Abstract & Realism Painting Overrides

Here's a quick upload of a couple personal override mods I created awhile ago.

I'm in the process of creating more overrides for my game and figured I could also share these with you guys!

Each set overrides large, medium, and small paintings for their respective categories. (More details below).

Abstract Paintings

This is the set I originally gifted to Dee for Sarabi. Bright, colorful array of portraits that depicted black beautiful in various forms. I chose the abstract category because it's very colorblocked and very artistic. Abstract is one of those categories that takes your sim awhile to access since they have to level of that painting skill. It would support the storyline that someone spent years curating their personal style and now wants to share it with the world. I thought that would be perfect for Sarabi because Dee wanted something very bright and colorful. But anyway, I still use them to this day and figured you guys would like to use them too! This is a style that I've always admired and it takes so much talent to get those colors just right like ughhh love it so much.

Realism Paintings

So for Realism, I wanted a set that depicted glimpses into everyday life. I had a few pictures by this artist saved in a Pinterest board for years and it was the first thing I thought of when I chose to create this set.  First of all, it looks painted which... plus.  Second of all, this is what I would imagine if someone was creating an oil painting of  a person.  So, it was a no brainer that I would use this style for this set. Realism is also one of those styles that takes a moment to level up. So it's very realistic for a realism set! I like this set specifically because you can see the same person depicted in various instances, so it almost seems like you're seeing a painted version of someone's Instagram feed.  That thought-take made this set very useful for a few storylines.

Black Art Painting Mod by Simmazsims

Im honestly gonna have Johanna paint some of these and maybe put them in her office! But how cute is this override mod?!

creator's notes-

I created this mod because I wanted my sims to be able to create art that is more of a black art aesthetics, cultured and of this generation instead of the bland boring ones in game if you get what I mean lol.

About The Mod:

This mod overrides the default paintings in game with 300+ NEW paintings that adds more of a "black art aesthetics."

This mod is functional via the Easel and the "Digitalistic Sketchpad" found in Build Buy.

This mod is base game compatible.

New paintings will unlock based on your sims Skill Level. As your sims gain skill levels in painting they will unlock and be able to paint masterpiece paintings.

Sims can also paint based on Emotions and Moods such as Confident, Focused, Playful, Flirty, Sad, And Angry. If your sims are feeling tensed or uncomfortable they won't be able to paint.

Overrides the following art categories: Classic, Pop Art, Surreal, Abstract, Realism, Impressionism, Emotional, Landscape, Figure

Personally, I don't like to alter too much how the game goes. So these are all mostly just for the sake of "making my life easier" and/or "making things aesthetically pleasing to the eyes".

FYI that overrides should only have one such in your Mods folder, otherwise it will conflict and not work. You'll see I have multiples, but I swap out which ever I feel like using.

UPDATED FOR LOVESTRUCK

This file will replace the easel paintings that your sims can create in the game! If you play as an artist a lot like I do, you get tired of seeing the same paintings all the time! So I made this to change things up! It does not include the landscape and figure paintings categories, just the base game styles and all emotional categories. It is not compatible with any other painting override mod, so make sure you only have one in your game at a time. Place it in your mods folder.

Medieval Easel Paintings Default Replacement

Today I come bearing gifts! Okay, it’s just 1 gift, but it’s kinda a doozy, which took me almost 2 days to complete -- medieval easel painting default replacements! For all the people, like me, who play medieval-themed sims 4, I don’t know about you, but I was tired of having modern-themed paintings in a world where they shouldn’t be, so I decided to undertake the big task of changing the default paintings into something more of the middle ages/medieval. So, 311 paintings later, here we are!

Now, on to the specs:

➳ The defaults I changed were for abstract, classic, emotional, impressionism, popart, realism, and surreal.  They DO NOT change landscape or figure painting because I followed DaisyTighfield’s tutorial over at Modthesims and she did not include those (a big thank you to them for parsing out the files and making her own default replacements -- check them out; they’re pretty amazing).

➳ There may be 1 or 2 paintings that fell through the cracks, but that’s because they weren’t included in the images I changed. If that happens, just try repainting the same painting style over again and it should load one that I did change.  Let me know if there are any issues, but I did test in game and it worked fine.

➳ These are default replacements. You CAN have all of these in your game if you want, or you can pick and choose, but if you have another mod that overrides the default paintings, it will NOT work. It’s a one-or-the-other kinda thing. You can download each individually, or you can download the zip for all of them.

1. What has been your favorite time period to play in or which one are you most excited for?

I thought it was going to be the 20s, but it turns out that parties are very time-consuming to stage and photograph. since my heart really lies with domestic gameplay, i’d say I’ve most enjoyed every era but the 20s. the 10s were very good, as I loved Calvin and it was quite an interesting generation. 

2. Do you have a favorite piece of historical cc? (CAS or BB)

weird one i guess, because its not flashy, but I just love @vroshii’s 30s shirt. I’ve been using it for all my male sims for the past two generations (30s and 40s). I especially like the floral swatches, which have become sort of a staple of Jerry Scott’s closet.

3. Who is your favorite sim currently?

I’m much further along in my gameplay than I am with my posting, but right now I really love Mary Scott (nee Guerra), Jerry’s wife. She’s so adorable! But of course I still love Jerry loads. And their son, Bruce.

4. What is your favorite world?

I would have said Windenburg or Brindleton once, but since starting my story blog @imminent-close-encounter, which is based in Strangerville, I’ve really grown to love that town. looks at the mesas!

5. Are you more gameplay or story focused?

For my Scott legacy its largely gameplay, for imminent it’s all story. I love both ways of playing.

6. Do you like to play with pets in your historical saves?

N O . i love cats in real life and at least sim dogs don’t smell, but pets in the sims are a LOT more trouble than they’re worth. 

7. What's your biggest immersion breaking pet peeve with the game?

mmm one that is mostly my own fault. I’m lazy so I don’t generally do all the outfits for sims, even sims in my household, so they’ll change into their hot/cold weather outfits and look like a tornado carried them through an H&M.

8. What's your favorite in-game historical item? (CAS or BB)

can I count the BEAUTIFUL reward easel that looks like it would pack up into a neat little case? that’s one of my fave items in the whole game.

9. What would you like to see as a new pack or asset to the game?

I’d love to see new historical cityscapes. the only good part of San Myshuno is the spice market, and even that is a bit too modern in some ways. something based off of historical New York or something would be wonderful.

10. What pack do you think is invaluable as a historical simmer?

Maybe cottage living? I haven’t had much chance to play with it but it seems really good for those early years of the decades challenge. 

11. Do you have a favorite mod to enhance historical gameplay?

@antiquatedplumbobs mentioned @pandorasimbox​’s Timeless mod, and in the spirit of not just repeating that, I’ll say the Enlist in War mod by Kuttoe. much easier than the cowplant method. I also feel like the emotional impact of the death hits a lot harder when they aren’t...dying by cowplant.

12. What's your ideal family size for playing?

right now i’m playing (spoilers) a house of EIGHT and i’m at my wits end. i’d say I like a family of five best, two parents and three little ones, but tbh I am a sucker for big families even if they are chaotic as all hell.

13. Do you use poses?

Yes, always for imminent and sometimes for the Scott legacy. i try not to use them too much for the Scotts because I’m trying to play the game rather than tell a specific story. but if I need them for a specific scene, like a wedding or an event, I’ll use them.

14. Do you use any overrides in your game?

Yes, I have a few. can’t remember them all but i’ll list a few that I use.

15. Do you, or did you, play off-the-grid during your game?

I did for the first two generations, I think. it’s pretty frustrating. some things that should be off the grid aren’t tagged correctly, both in game and in cc (cc I can forgive, it may be from before the off-the-grid trait existed).

16. What lifespan do you play on?

normal.

17. What inspired you to start playing a historically?

i can’t totally remember. but I do remember first reading the rules to the decades challenge and thinking ‘this is wild, i can’t believe people do this, oh my god’ and now look at me...

More Painting Frame Colors

Small Update

Corrected some missing colors. The small frame should now have a yellow instead of two identical greens, and both the medium and small frames have an extra shade of blue

Description

This mod adds an additional 42 color options for the frame that can be added to finished paintings. to be clear, this mod only affects painting your Sims have made themselves with an easel, not all the other painting decorations that can be purchased in Buy Mode.

How to Use

You can find the extra colors by using the Design Tool in Buy Mode on a painting.

If you are still unsure how to do this, please follow these steps:

There are three .package file located in the .zip file, extract them all to your "Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 4\Mods" folder

Start the game. once in the game, add a frame to painting in live mode the usual way by clicking it and click "Frame Canvas"

Once the frame is added, switch to Buy Mode

Click the Design Tool located near the top center of the screen

Click the Painting that you want to add a colored frame to, then click the color you want.

Conflicts

This Mod overrides the three canvas objects in the game (small, medium, and large) and can conflict with other mods that make changes to these objects

WARNING

If you have applied a colored frame to a painting and later decide to remove this mod, it will delete the entire painting when you reload your save file. To safely remove the mod, change the painting frames back to their default, located in the upper-left corner of the Design Tool menu.

DEFAULT EASEL PAINTINGS PREHISTORIC OVERRIDE

This cc replaces default paintings with prehistoric paintings. It is dedicated to those who play historical challenges. It hasn't been tested yet. If you find errors let me know.

 Important Notes

Please download Moi's invisible meshless fence (not included) for this lot to work as intended. The homes' conservatories appear shared but due to apartment restrictions they have to technically be divided, so I used the invisible fence to achieve the best of both worlds.

Also not included, but not strictly necessary, are Cyclonesue's invisible driveway recolours for the car parks at the front.`Cars are included but not seen in pics. Note they will disappear if you enter the lot while it is unoccupied. So if you want to go in and make changes, remember to replace the cars.

I have used one unique separator door recolour on this lot, not included, found here by InouKai. It is the recolour named Darkwood.

To have strictly only elders occupy a lot you'll have to either a) move in only your own sims while having Nysha's No Townie Neighbours mod, or b) use the Sim Manipulator to age all residents to elder. I haven't researched this much, so if there are other methods please let me know. It does seem that the visitor controller is redundant in this case as it treats spawned neighbours differently to other sims, so disabling certain ages will unfortunately not work.

I've built the dining area with Simlogicals Shiny Tyme NPC override in mind. If you have this the room will be self functioning so that your elders are catered for without them having to lift a finger. I've also added Exnems dessert cart which is entirely optional but adds a nice touch.

Info and testing things RE: the number of visitors that show up at owned community lots...

For those who might care about this in general and in particular about increasing the number of visitors at an owned community lot when you’re going there as a visitor, not as the owner of the lot. I know at least @atomtanned will be interested in this info. Not sure about anyone else, but here we go...

First off, I found this info in the Sims 2 section at good ol’ Snooty Sims and took a screen shot so you don’t have to go there to see this info:

So, the maximum number of visitors on an owned lot is 10, which is less than will show up on an unowned community lot when you’ve, for instance, used the “uint prop” cheats to adjust this. Those cheats do not override these particular numbers/limits. From the very little that I was able to find online about this subject, it appears that these numbers are hard-coded. I can understand this to a certain degree -- A reward for a more successful business ought to be more customers, after all -- but I don’t understand why there’s such a limit on a maxed-out Level 10 business...unless it was just a trying-not-to-choke-2004-era-computers thing. But, even if this can’t be increased, 10 fellow visitors on a lot when visiting an owned one is still better than 3. :)

So, I did some testing with that goal in mind. :)

Now, SimWardrobe's Customer Limit Adjuster does indeed increase (or decrease) the number of lot visitors on owned lots...but only when you’re playing the owner of the lot, unfortunately. When I took a playable to the lot as a visitor, there were still the level-linked visitor number limits in place, even though, when I clicked the adjuster object on the lot to check its settings, it was still set to allow 20 visitors. So, when I visited the lot I was testing, only three visitors plus the owner/employees and my playable were on the lot. In my specific case here, the owners of these particular lots are all townies, so I'm always going to be visiting these lots, never playing the owners of them except very briefly to get them set up as businesses. So, this mod is unfortunately not useful for my purposes here, though it IS useful in general, if you play owned businesses.

So then I tried poking in SimPE to change the business’s level to 10. I found a way that I thought might do it -- The lot’s level was displayed and the number was editable and it “stuck” after editing -- but when I sent the owner of the lot I edited to the lot in-game, it still showed as Level 0. So, I don’t know if I did something wrong or if the number I changed simply doesn’t affect anything in-game. I have a strong feeling that it’s the latter. I also have a feeling that what affects the number of visitors is not really the business’s level number but rather the number of customer loyalty stars it has.

So, I think the ultimate answer is to use this mod that @didilysims linked me to. It allows you to manually set a customer’s loyalty level. If you max out a bunch of customers’ loyalty, they will generate lots of stars for the business very quickly, therefore pushing up the business’s level very quickly. The drawback is...Well, that you make those particular customers very loyal to the business. :) So. they will be the ones most likely to visit the lot, thus they are the ones most likely to be taking up those 10 visitor slots. At this point, I’m not sure this is want I want for my situation here, so I have not yet tested that mod in my particular scenario, but I’m going to guess that it’ll work, since it worked in Didily’s situation. 

In my own case, I now have to decide if I want to play around with that mod...or drop the owned-lot concept and just leave the lots unowned but visitor-control them so that only Sims in the lot’s assigned hobby will be drawn as visitors. I’m thinking I will probably do the former because the entire point of my concept here is that I want Sims to be able to make purchases at these lots, which you generally can’t do at unowned lots aside from a few objects that are so enabled. (Like the clothing racks, magazine racks, grocery displays, etc.) Meaning, I want, for instance, an Arts & Crafts “hobby lot” that isn’t hidden and controlled by membership cards, where Sims with an A&C OTH can go to buy easels and pottery wheels and art/craft-related deco and stuff AND use functional art/craft objects in order to gain enthusiasm and creativity points when they don’t have enough money to buy such things as well as to socialize with (a lot of) Sims guaranteed to be interested in talking about Arts & Crafts. The only way to have all of that, that I know of, is to have owned community lots that are visitor-controlled to allow as visitors only those non-playables that have the relevant hobby as an OTH.

So, this is something to play around with...once I get the Castaway Default Project(TM) done. (25 hairs retextured down, ~60 to go. :) Then I have to make the defaults.)
