people with sim cards that use the "three" network such as three or smarty (like i use), did NOT receive the emergency alert test today. these networks are known for being a lot cheaper than other networks such as O2. the government is once again prioritising those who can afford more expensive mobile data as these are the people that vote for them. this is essentially the government saying that the working classes are second rate citizens that do not deserve to be warned of fires, floods, or terrorist threats near them. do NOT vote conservative if you wish to be allowed to know if your life is in danger.

this system is meant to warn you of fires, floods, terrorist threats, and other danger. this is not a privilege it is a right.

This mod adds the ability to lead spin classes on Arsil's exercise bikes.

This is a script mod that can be placed in your Packages folder. It was built and tested on 1.69 but should work fine on 1.67.

Requirements

This mod requires Arsil's Exercise Bike mod to function.

Around The Sims 3's conversion of the exercise bike from The Sims 2 is recommended.

Lead Spin Class

Sims with at least level 3 Athletic skill can lead a spin class. Once your sim has started a class, other sims on the same lot will find an exercise bike in the same room and join the class.

The spin classes last 2 hours and your sim earns §40 for each sim who participates. Sims in the active household can join the class, but they do not count as participants.

If your sim ends a spin class early, they will not be paid.

TS3 - Shang Simla Forbidden City Icon MOD

One of the most fatal mistakes that EA Maxis' The Sims 3 Studio in San Francisco, USA ever done to Shang Simla, China world in The Sims 3 World adventures: Using image of Torii Gate, from Japan, for China world icon.

For 13 years after release of The Sims 3 World Adventures Expansion Pack, finally I did the fix for the icon. Creating this icon default replacement is actually difficult because

editing the vector in very small scale size. 64x64 px, 57x57 px, 38x38 px, 32x32 px, 21x21 px... 

I chose Forbidden City as icon for Shang Simla because Forbidden City is only existed in Beijing, China. Shang Simla has its own “Sim-ified” Forbidden City building in the center of the World.

I haven’t tested the whole gameplay showing this new icon, but I have already done the edit for all image icons with keyword “beijing” “china” on S3PE. If you found any icon that hasn’t been replaced, please report to me.

ATTENTION PPL! DO YOU LIVE IN THE UK AND HAVE A MOBILE PHONE? SENSITIVE TO SUDDEN NOISE AND SOUNDS? HAVE AN ELDERLY FRIEND OR LOVED ONE?

Just a reminder, but for anyone in the UK, please remember that today, at 3pm, the government will be testing the new "emergency alert" alarm system, much like the ones they have in the us and around the world. According to the gov, it will be a loud, blaring alarm tone (a bit like a siren/eas) that will go off at 3pm today, unless your phone is completely switched off. It will last for about 10 seconds, and to get it to away you just have to acknowledge the message by pressing "okay".

However, tests like these have been known for going wrong or getting delayed or having the sound stay on, etc (see the US' National EAS Test 2011), so please be prepared just in case. If you are worried about this, just avoid it altogether by having the device turned off altogether, or disabling the alarm in settings if you think it is necessary. The alarms are useful, in case there are any actual genuine national emergencies, and have been proven to save lives.

However, this does not take away the fact that many people are still not aware of their existence, and will not be prepared or aware of what is going on when they hear it this afternoon. This is especially important for people who are sensitive to loud, sudden sounds or even just people (such as the elderly) who may not know about this and may be alarmed by it. Also for people in who have hidden emergency phones (e.g. ppl in abuse situations, hiding for their safety, etc.). Maybe spread the message if you can. Friends, family, etc. Stay safe, people ♡

Tldr: There is an emergency alarm testing at 3pm in the UK today. It will be loud alarm/siren sound on your phone. Do not panic, it's just a test to improve the government's emergency response systems. You can shut off your phone completely to avoid it.

AI will be used to help the Environment Agency archive 10,000 years worth of valuable river level and flow information

The risk of flooding and drought within England is a priority area of focus for the Environment Agency (EA) which strives to protect and enhance the environment, to contribute to sustainable development and to help protect the nation’s security in the face of emergencies.  Over the years, a vast amount of hydrological data has been collected through manual efforts, amassing an impressive physical archive of approximately 10,000 years’ worth of valuable river level and flow information. This vital data could be used to build more accurate climate and flood modelling and help forecast and minimise the impact of future adverse weather events.   However, a significant challenge is that much of this historical environmental surveillance data has been stored on biodegradable materials, such as paper charts, microfilm and punch tape. These important documents face the risk of irreversible degradation and therefore need cataloguing urgently. Adding to this challenge, the EA is losing the ability to interpret even this archive as staff retire.  While manual data extraction is underway, the time-consuming plotting of physical data onto graphs means this process – currently estimated to take 40 years – is unsustainable and a new, faster solution was needed. The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra) approached the Accelerated Capability Environment (ACE) on behalf of the EA to explore the feasibility of using cutting-edge artificial intelligence (AI) and machine-learning technology to digitise, read and interpret the physical data significantly faster while maintaining accuracy.  Bringing new technologies to bear  ACE invited suppliers from its Vivace community to present ideas for a proof of concept (PoC) solution to see if AI could help with either fully automating, or semi-automating, manual data rescue. From seven bids, The London Data Company was selected to determine the exact data rescue requirement, including characterising the features of the physical data being digitalised, identify the best-fit method, and build and test a PoC data-rescue tool.  Working with domain specialists and data users from across the EA, an initial options analysis identified two suitable open-source tools to take forward for the PoC stage – one which was fully automated, and the second which had a human in the loop – so two, rather than the expected one.  The first PoC, the fully automated tool, showed low feasibility for effective digitisation, due to limitations in accurately rescuing handwritten information that is crucial for understanding axis labels, chart metadata such as location and start date, and adapting to different chart types, such as those with missing gaps, or smudges caused by water damage. It is recommended that further assessments be made in the future as Optical Character Recognition (OCR) performance improves with time.    Pivoting to the second, human-in-the-loop tool for AI-assisted data rescue produced better results, and recommendations were also made for feature changes which would adapt and increase the effectiveness of this tool on live datasets, including integrating additional AI elements from the first PoC.  The importance of collating and analysing good quality historic data and records to better understand climatic trends and management of river catchments cannot be underestimated as it is key to protecting the UK’s security in the face of emergencies.
