Stiles hadn't been in training long, just a few weeks (not even long enough for Scott to turn 16 and be sent to training as well), when one of the commanders approached him. Stiles recognized him as Peter Hale, a born werewolf and supposedly a pretty nasty fighter. Rumor was he'd taken the Alpha title from his own niece and put her in a coma for six weeks before she healed well enough to come back to life.

"So," Commander Hale said, his approach the cue for Stiles to stand at attention and salute. "You must be Stilinski. Or should I say Stiles?"

"Sir, yes, sir," Stiles replied, though he kept his voice just this side of lazy. It might be the law that he have to come here for training and to see if any of the Alphas wanted to offer him The Bite, but he didn't have to like it.

"Well, which is it? Stilinski? Or Stiles?"

Stiles knew this wasn't the time for jokes, but he just couldn't help himself. "You can call me Lord Supreme Ruler of Abbadon, sir!"

Commander Hale stared at Stiles for half a second before laughing. As he chuckled, he walked around Stiles, looking him up and down. "Oh, I like you, Stilinski. You've got ... sass."

"Thank you?"

Commander Hale leaned so close that Stiles could practically taste the raw meat he'd had for lunch. "It's thank you, sir."

"You don't have to call me 'sir' Commander, but I like it."

Commander Hale flashed red eyes and asked, "Do you want The Bite?"

Stiles had come here determined to just get this year over with and return home with his humanity intact. He'd seen how dangerous it was to be a werewolf the last time Beacon Hills had been attacked and Stiles just couldn't do that to his father. Not again. Not after what happened to Stiles' mom. He needed to say no. None of the Alphas would give The Bite without consent. Why wasn't he saying no?

Was it the way Commander Hale's icy blue eyes caught and wouldn't release Stiles' gaze? Was it the way Stiles could feel Commander Hale's breath on his throat, practically feel the teeth sinking into his skin? Was it even the way Stiles was sick of being weaker than everyone, human or werewolf?

"Oh-okay."
