Working on redesigning characters for my spidersona AU and started with Shocker/Montana.

I wanted his suit to be bulkier because quilt/shock absorption should not be skin-tight muscle suits. Inspiration drawn from American rodeo bull riders and those thick vests and chaps they wear.

Carmine, Earth-99001

Fay Fauster is a writer who moves to NYC to find a job. She is lucky enough to nab one at the Daily Bugle, and her first assignment is an interview with the Connors at ESU Labs about their work on DNA fusion and mutation.

She, of course, is bit by a spider--though hers is a tarantula that is a mix of docile “pet” tarantulas (Mexican Redleg, Chilean Rose, Chacao Golden Knee, ect.). At first she wants to pretend she doesn’t have powers and continues life as normal.

Then she witnesses a kidnapping behind her apartment complex and turns the other way. She could help...but no. She’s no hero. She doesn’t know what she’s doing even as a normal citizen, trying to be anything more than that would be way too stressful. She looks the other way.

The next morning, at work, she must write a tragedy of three people dying in a kidnapping incident. She realizes what her inaction had caused and resolves, right there, to never turn her back ever again.

So I saw Across the Spider-Verse

Rambling about my girl under the cut:

AU Earth-99001

Hero name Carmine, civilian alias Fay Fauster, she works as a writer/editor for the Daily Bugle. Originally from PA, she moved to NYC after college to find a job. After an assignment in which she interviews the Doctors Connors, she is bitten by her spider.

Her powers are roughly the same: super-strength, stick to walls, spidey sense. She was bitten by a tarantula, so she's a bit stronger than the "average" spider person. The bite also caused her hair to become tougher. Tarantulas have "urticating hairs," that they can fling as a defense mechanism, and so does Carmi. She can do this with all hair on her body, but doesn't use it very often because she doesn't want to rip the suit (she did not make any of her gear, but that's a whole backstory that I'll explain elsewhere).

Her webs work a bit differently as well, they are not organic, but cannot be fired like "normal" webs. Instead they activate with physical contact, so she needs to get close to slap a bad guy to wrap them up. Her webbing material is also closer to silk.

She's got little claws and minor mandible-adjacent growths in her gums, but the latter are more cosmetic (and inconvenient) than functional. Although! Her normal saliva does have some funky chemical properties and you will definitely have a bad time if it gets anywhere near your skin

Her eyesight did not improve :(

Fay (and by extension Carmine) is pretty much a pacifist. She dislikes conflict in all forms, and the idea of intentionally hurting others makes her physically nauseous. She much prefers to fill the role of passive observer: to wait, watch, and see how the situation is resolved or resolves itself. If becoming involved is not optional, her avoidant tendencies allow her to observe and analyse her environment to work through non-violent (or as close as she can manage) solutions.

As a civilian, she is quiet and nearly invisible, and enjoys it. She lives through what she writes. As a hero, she finds it surprisingly easy (when behind a mask) to pretend to be someone else, a character that is confident and witty. Her heart, however, stays the same. She is kind and believes in second chances.

Roommates and eventual bffs with Black Cat, has the Enforcers on speed-dial, is pen-pals with Electro, her suit was made by Vulture and Doc Oct, and effectively became a sister-figure for this universe's Lizard (Billy Connors = Newt)

It could be just a matter of few weeks or months before China’s Tiangong-1 space laboratory will fall to Earth. The spacecraft is continuing its gradual descent toward the surface after control over the mission was lost in early 2016. (more…)
