Earth-2 Etude
Chapter 1
Warnings: none
The metal doors to Iron Heights opened with a loud, discordant clang that made Hartley Rathaway wish he'd turned his hearing aids off as he set his personal belongings in a basket and removing his tie pin before stepping through the metal detector. It beeped - an equally annoying noise, in Hartley's opinion - and the corrections officer waved him through, handing him a clipboard to sign.
"You get two hours with him, CSI. Anything happens, you press this." The man thrust a small, round device attached to a lanyard at Hartley. "This panic button will let every officer know to come get you. Bastard wants parole, though, so you probably won't need to use it."
That wasn't particularly reassuring but Hartley nodded anyway. "I need my tablet back."
The man frowned and picked it up out of the basket, grumbling under his breath as he handed it over. Hartley tucked it under his arm and adjusted his blazer, smoothing it unnecessarily to calm his growing nerves.
"Singh's in room twelve. Guard'll show you the way." The officer jerked his head toward the hall.
Hartley offered a curt nod and followed the appointed guard, his shoes clicking against the polished concrete floor. The sound echoed faintly, a lonely kind of rhythm that made his chest tighten with anxiety. A few of the inmates leered at him as he passed, one or two shouting vulgar comments. God, this place was vile, why the hell did it have to be Hartley on the job?
Room twelve loomed at the end of the corridor, its number a stark black against the gray. The corrections officer accompanying him rapped twice on the door. "Singh," he announced, his voice gruff, "you've got a visitor."
The door swung open, revealing a stark, utilitarian space. At the center sat David Singh, the infamous mob boss, leaning casually back in his chair, thumbing through a paperback novel. His orange prison jumpsuit was undone to the waist, revealing the white tank top beneath that clung to his broad chest. His dark eyes locked onto Hartley the moment he stepped inside, their intensity almost physical, pinning him in place. For a fraction of a second, Hartley forgot how to breathe.
Singh raised an eyebrow. "Who the hell are you?"
Hartley straightened, his chin lifting slightly. "Hartley Rathaway, CCPD." His tone was clipped, professional. He wasn't about to let Singh see how much this encounter unnerved him. "I'm here to discuss one of your properties."
Singh's lips curved into a slow, mocking smile. "My properties? I don't have any of those anymore, remember? Confiscated, seized, sold - what do you cops call it? Civil asset forfeiture?"
Hartley ignored him, sitting across from him and tapping his tablet to pull up the files he'd prepared. "One of your old hideouts is in use again. We believe the Darbinyan crime family has taken over the location. I need you to provide the layout - anything that isn't on the blueprints."
Singh leaned forward, resting his elbows on the metal table and his chin on one hand, his gaze slow and deliberate as it swept over Hartley from head to toe. The mob boss's voice, rich and low and laced with amusement, broke the silence after several uncomfortably long moments. "So, they sent me the scrawny one."
Hartley bristled, feeling a bit like he was being sized up to be eaten. "You refused everyone else."
Singh snorted and leaned back again. "Right. Wasn't about to talk to Captain West or her lap dog."
"Or any other officer, according to the warden." Hartley added, crossing his arms, trying to look equally as collected and casual.
Singh chuckled, low and rich, his dark eyes locking with Hartley's. "You're awfully bold for a man who looks like a strong breeze might blow him over."
"You're awfully vexing for a man who supposedly wants parole." Hartley countered.
Singh's gaze stayed locked on Hartley, unrelenting and far too self-assured. "Vexing? Fancy word. You always talk like you've got something to prove, Mr. Rathaway?"
Hartley adjusted his glasses, refusing to rise to the bait. "I don't need to prove anything to you, Mr. Singh. I'm here because the captain thought your knowledge might actually be useful. Clearly, she was being optimistic." His tone was clipped, every syllable calculated to maintain control of the conversation.
Singh rolled his eyes. "You're here for information about my old hideout. A place I haven't set foot in for over a year. Tell me, Rathaway, what makes you think I care if the Darbinyans are squatting there now?"
"You have a personal history with them, don't you?"
Singh's eyes darkened, his fingers flexing against the steel table, though his gaze never left Hartley's. "Personal history," he repeated, his voice a low rumble. "You could say that."
Hartley felt the atmosphere shift and briefly wondered if he'd have to use the panic button. He pushed away the thought and dropped his gaze to his tablet, his fingers dancing over the screen in precise movements. "We don't have time for cryptic remarks. If you're going to help, start talking. If not, I'll be sure to let Captain West know this was a waste of her time and mine."
Singh shifted in his chair, his tank top slipping slightly with the motion, revealing a scar just below his collarbone. It drew Hartley's attention momentarily, his sharp mind calculating the possible stories behind it before he forced himself to focus again. He was here for the Darbinyan family's operations, not Singh's mysterious past.
A moment of silence more and Hartley sighed, pushing his chair back and standing to leave. "Fine. I'll let the parole board know you're not interested."
"Sit back down."
The command wasn't loud but it carried a resonance that stopped Hartley dead mid-step. It took him a moment to gather himself enough to realize he'd followed an order from a mob boss. He felt the tips of his ears flush with frustration and embarrassment.
"How dare you-" Hartley started but Singh interrupted him.
"Sit."
Hartley remained standing, placing his tablet and hands flat on the table as he leaned forward, glaring at the other man. "If you have something useful to say, say it. Otherwise, this is over."
The corner of Singh's mouth twitched upward and, for a heartbeat, Hartley thought he might laugh in his face. Instead, Singh leaned back, his chair creaking under his weight, arms crossing over his broad chest as he shook his head, looking amused.
"Come back next week. I'll have something to say then."
"I'm not playing this game, Singh." Hartley snapped but David didn't so much as flinch.
"You want information, you'll come back. See you next week, Mr. Rathaway."

A Bunch of Underrated POTO Fics I Like
There are some really great Phantom fanfics on AO3 from @wheel-of-fics and @catcorsair and others getting a lot of traffic. But there are a few out there that I've read where I've though "holy Hera, why do these not have more hits?" Here are some of my favorite fics with 5,000 reads or less (and one that has more but it's honestly one of the best fics I've ever read). All are rated E or M. I also have a major pet peeve in the fandom which is character assassinating one of the boys so Christine can choose the other. Most of these do not do this.
A Deal with the Devil by Lunescape. Raoul and Erik have fallen into an enemies-with-benefits arrangement that, so far, has kept Erik from Christine. But when Raoul makes a bargain with Erik to stop him taking her, he finds that a deal with the devil is not so easily evaded. Complete.
Notes: This is the one on this list that blessedly has more than 5K hits, which is a very recent spike since it was completed in December. A friend and I were both reading this from when the author started first posting and were screaming pretty much every chapter. Gothic horror and smut, really well developed non-self-insert OCs who interact with the main trio (and Philippe) quite well.
2. A Little Menagerie series by Lunescape. Erik/Raoul/Christine throuple series. Well written dynamic on each of the pairings and all three of them. Complete.
Notes: Why on earth aren't there more trio throuple fics? Ive read these ones multiple times, I have no idea why they are so under-read.
3. L'Apparition Initiale by Xanadian_Sled. The Angel of Music reveals himself before Christine as a mortal man for the first time. This is the story of that initial appearance and the whirlwind of remarkable events that followed. WIP.
Notes: Leroux-accurate what-if-things-went-differently to pair E/C together. The only thing I don't like about this one is my personal pet peeve of character assassinating Raoul in order to have him not be viable, but it's at least sort of believable and E/C have a nice dynamic.
4. Etudes by @or-what-you-will. A series of "seriously how is there not more smut about these scenes from the ALW musical that are begging for a smut fic to be written?"
5. Just Enough Rope by @or-what-you-will. In which Raoul learns something about himself during the events of the final lair. Complete.
Notes: E/R breathplay fic.
6. Only if For a Night by @obliobla. It was only right that it happened here, now—the furious mob quelled, the gendarmes' search abandoned. Raoul, recovering from the punjab lasso, secure in his victory, in theirs. Tomorrow, she would be his before the world, in the full and pure splendor of day. But tonight…Complete (short, one-shot)
Notes: Superb mostly-Lucifer fic writer Obli's first foray into our POTO brainrot and she crushes it.
Also, please read my stuff.

Marius de Romanus Appreciation Week, day 2
Prompt: Guernica (P. Picasso)
The Vampire Chronicles x The Vampires of Venice (from Doctor Who) crossover. A little bit of lore: the Saturnynians came to earth to escape «Silence». Their leader established the school in Venice, because they need water and new fledglings, but when I drafted this etude I added «split» inside their kind just like Marius's school/Santino’s coven.
This is Ricardo point of view on one dark night, that reminds me of Guernica…

[A3!] ★ Main Story | Act 14 - DREAM CATCHER | Episode 2 - All-Out Comedy Etude
Tenma: So right now, MANKAI Company’s ranked 30th, huh…
Yuki: Our rank has dramatically gone up since Spring Troupe’s performance, but if we’re aiming for the top ten, we can’t just be happy with this.
Kumon: Our final rank is determined by the total points we’ve gathered up to that point in the fourth quarter, so we need to earn as many points as we can by then…
Izumi: Their top rankings in the first quarter weren’t as high as they were during the pre-voting, but there are still lots of new theater companies created by influencers and such ranked pretty high.
Kazunari: Maybe the SNS Votes had more of an impact ‘cause not a whole lotta shows could be done during the first quarter.
Muku: But it still hurts a little to be overtaken so quickly like that.
Muku: Especially because since our debut, I, along with all of you guys, have grown as a theater company, and our fan base has slowly increased too…
Kumon: Yeah… We overcame a lot of things, and we even won the Fleur Special Award…
Tenma: So just what the hell have we been accumulating all this time?
Yuki: Well, I guess it feels like we’re back to square one.
Kazunari: That just means we’ve gotta start working hard again from here!
Misumi: Exactly~. I’ll give you some of the triangle cookies I got at my guest performance the other day, so cheer up~.
Yuki: Even during guest performances the Trianglien is famous for his love of triangles.
Misumi: Am I famous~?
Yuki: You’re the most famous Trianglien of them all. Because you’re the only one.
Tenma: I think it’s okay if you’re not famous for that.
Kazunari: I’ve been doing some research and the number of hashtags being posted online right now is still being dominated by the top theater companies.
Izumi: Ah, Masumi-kun also put together a document regarding that.
Kazunari: Damn, Massu! He’s even got all the percentages listed here!
Tenma: He really is steadily improving his skills as a PR guy.
Kazunari: We’ve really gotta strategize more than ever on the visual side of advertising stuff, huh~.
Kumon: The script might not be done yet, but is there anything we can do now to help?
Muku: It’s kind of hard to just sit and do nothing. Sitting still just makes me anxious…
Tenma: You’ve got a point. Sitting around getting depressed while thinking about things isn’t the Summer Troupe thing to do.
Tenma: That’s why…
Yuki: Wouldn’t doing that be the quickest and simplest thing to do?
Tenma: You bet.
Kumon: Alright, it’s decided!
Misumi: Now that that’s decided, let’s go!
· • —– ٠ ✤ ٠ —– • ·
Kazunari: “This planet is ours! Tri, tri, tri…”
Misumi: “Angle, angle, angle… Earthlings, bow down before us!”
Yuki: “Uuueh… Is this how Earth ends… At the triangular hands of those Triangliens…?”
Tenma: “No, not yet… We can’t give in here yet…!” Kumon: “Earth is ours.” Muku: “You will all meekly obey us.”
Yuki: “What!? More friends of the Triangliens!? Kazunari: “Perfect timing. From now on, you will cooperate with--.”
Misumi: “Wait! No, those are the--.”
Kumon: “Circle, circle, circle…”
Muku: “Cone, cone, cone…”
Tenma: “Coneliens…!”
Kazunari: “Those confusing fools…!”
· • —– ٠ ✤ ٠ —– • ·
*Applause*
Misumi: Thank you very much~!
Tenma: Thank you so much!
Passerby A: Do your best with your performance~!
Passerby B: We’ll be supporting you, MANKAI Company!
Kazunari: Thanks much~!
Passerby C: I enjoyed the street act I just saw, but this one was really funny too~!
Passerby D: Yeah, I think they’re doing one in front of the station, so let’s go there!
Izumi: There are street acts thriving all over the place today, too, huh?
Muku: You can really tell that the number of theater companies is increasing.
Tenma: We’ve gotta get ourselves fired up again.
Ibuki: Wait, hol’ up. There’s no way that’s MANKAI Company, right?

A3! Main Story: Part 4 - Act 14: DREAM CATCHER - Episode 2: Full-Power Comedy Etude
Tenma: MANKAI Company’s rank right now is 30th…
Yuki: The Spring Troupe’s performance jumped us up a notch, but we can’t quit now if we want to get to the top 10.
Kumon: The final ranking will be determined by the total of all points until 4Q, so we gotta earn as many as possible…
Izumi: Although not as many as in the pre-voting, there really are many new theater companies set up by influencers and the like in the top rankings of Q1.
Kazunari: There weren’t that many shows during 1Q, so the social media sway was probs extra strong.
Muku: But being overtaken in the blink of an eye is kind of sad.
Muku: Even though all of us have grown since our debut performance, as a group as well as individually, and our fans have been steadily increasing since then…
Kumon: Right… We overcame all sorta troubles, and even won the Special Fleur Award…
Tenma: For what reason have we been building up everything till now…
Yuki: Well, I guess we’re back to square one.
Kazunari: We just gotta do our best from here!
Misumi: Yup~ I’ll give you the triangle cookie I got for the performance I guest-starred in the other day, so cheer up~
Yuki: So the Triangle Alien’s love for triangles is famous amongst other troupes too.
Misumi: I’m famous~?
Yuki: You’re probably the most famous Triangle Alien. Since you’re the only one.
Tenma: He doesn’t need to be famous for that.
Kazunari: I’m doing some research on the social media side too, and it seems most of the hashtags are about the companies on the top of the ranking.
Izumi: Ah, Masumi-kun has also gathered data for that.
Kazunari: GW, Massu! He’s even got the percentages in there!
Tenma: His promotional skills are steadily improving.
Kazunari: I gotta take my visual promos more seriously than ever too~
Kumon: We may not have a script yet, but is there anything we can do right now?
Muku: I don’t want to sit around doing nothing. I’ll get anxious if I don’t do anything…
Tenma: Staying gloomy and thinking things through definitely isn’t the Summer Troupe way of doing things.
Tenma: In other words…
Yuki: Long story short, we should do that?
Tenma: Exactly.
Kumon: It’s decided!
Misumi: Since it’s decided, let’s gooo!
-
Kazunari: “This planet is now ours! Tri, tri, tri…”
Misumi: “... Angle, angle, angle. Bow before us, you Earthlings!”
Yuki: “Ugh… If we don’t do something soon, the Earth will fall in ruins by the Triangle Aliens… Are we really powerless…?”
Tenma: “No, not yet… We can’t fall here…!”
Kumon: “The Earth is ours.”
Muku: “Quietly submit to us.”
Yuki: “What!? The Triangle Aliens have multiplied!?”
Kazunari: “Perfect timing. You should work with us and–”
Misumi: “Wait! No, these guys are–”
Kumon: “Co, co, co…”
Muku: “ne, ne, ne…”
Tenma: “Cone Aliens…!”
Kazunari: “You misleading lot…!”
-
[Applause]
Misumi: Thank you very much~!
Tenma: Thank you very much!
Passerby A: Good luck on your performance~!
Passerby B: We’ll be rooting for you, MANKAI Company!
Kazunari: Thank yooouu~!
Passerby C: The Street ACT we saw before was interesting, but so was this~!
Passerby D: Yup, and it looks like someone’s doing one near the station, let’s go check that one out too!
Izumi: There’s Street ACTs all over the place today, too.
Muku: This really drives home that the theater companies are increasing.
Tenma: We gotta keep our spirits high.
Ibuki: Woah, hold on a sec. Ain’t you MANKAI Company?

Welcome to Wonderful World of Darklords, ya filthy animal! While it's not animated, Home Alone is technically Disney now that they've bought 20th Century Fox (and let's face it, we're eventually doing Hocus Pocus and Haunted Mansion, so "not animated" isn't a dealbreaker). What's more, in a world where a magical wish really can make your family disappear, Kevin is a perfect darklord trapped in a hell of his own creation--and ready to put your PCs in that hell, too. Topics discussed include:
How to get your PCs to go into Kevin's little funhouse so they get all tore up, even though they presumably won't be tempted by promises of stereos, VCRs, and toys;
Suggestions for translating Kevin's sadistic traps into their equally sadistic D&D equivalents (with some inspiration from the master of "up yours" traps, Gary Gygax);
Alternate versions of Kevin and his house with a variety of different tones, from "heartwarming holiday special about family" to "cathartic beatdown of a spoiled, hateful man-child;"
The challenges of adapting a film where the wish-fulfillment power fantasy character is the darklord and the hapless victims are the PCs;
And more!

Book Club of Dread absolutely will not be ready December 20th (very optimistic view of your editing powers there, Past Rachel), but we're going to move heaven and earth to make sure it's out by Epiphany so the Christmas Bellringer is still appropriate. For the Christmas Bellringer, you want roughly equal parts ginger beer and orange juice OR roughly equal parts gin, ginger beer, and orange juice; adjust the proportions to taste. Please, we beg you, go slow if you add the gin. The ginger beer will hide the flavor of the gin, you will forget you aren't drinking a mocktail, and your bell will get rung if you pour yourself a big ol' glass with the intention of nursing it over a couple hours. This stuff makes Hocus Pocus Punch look like chocolate milk.

A Hatsu a day keeps the release date away
The rules for FatexHunter are finally finished. It took three drafts and lots of revisions, but the rules are finally in a place I'm really happy with.
These rules are available on the small FatexHunter discord (dm for invite), but the book will not be published until the appendices are completed and the copyright information corrected (if anyone knows how to credit HunterxHunter properly, advise would be cool).
One of the appendices is 30 sample abilities to spark interest and help people build their hunter's ability suite. So in order to fill that out, I will be making/publishing a new ability everyday in June.
6/1: Shu 6/2: Ren 6/3: Cibopathy 6/4: Simulcast 6/5: Flaming Strike 6/6: Ryu 6/7: Gyo 6/8: Ken 6/9: Ko 6/10: Catapult 6/11: Weapon Transformation 6/12: Star Platinum 6/13: Earth Bending 6/14: Phantasmal Image 6/15: Trick Room 6/16: Bara-Bara no Mi 6/17: Weaponless Warrior 6/18: Vampirism 6/19: Flash 6/20: Fire Breathing 6/21: Alchemical Transmutation 6/22: Ben's Knife Soul Forging 6/23: Bandit's Secret 6/24: Binky the Vacuum 6/25: Leorio's Emission 6/26: Lover's Etude 6/27: Biohazard 6/28: Sand of Time 6/29: Perfect Plan 6/30: Hakoware
Keep your eye out, I'll be setting up the queue so they should post at the same time everyday.

Transcendent Etude 2 by ForgetDeny Entering the Solar Plexus The human body is profound beyond the comprehension of the mind. Medical doctors operate on the physical side of existence whereas the inner observer looks through the feelings of experience for the truth behind the form. The psychic centres within the body (sometimes referred to as the ‘chakras’) function as a totality of being. The psychic centre which is the portal to the cosmic levels of mind is the solar plexus; this small but highly sensitive region beneath the breastplate is the doorway to reality. To cross this threshold is to unite with the mystery of life and the secret of death. Love enters existence through the solar plexus and is the place where attraction to the beauty of other forms of life is first registered. The idea of entering the body in meditation is to make conscious the interior world of the psyche. This speeds up the frontal intelligence, which functions at a reduced level when identified with the movement and objects in the material world. The entry into the solar plexus is helped considerably by attending to any problem areas in the circumstantial outer life that would cause an emotional disturbance in the body. Then it’s possible to put the focus of attention on the solar plexus for longer periods without thought or distraction. The breakthrough happens when a pulse is registered which is not unlike the heartbeat, only this originates from deep inner space. However there is usually no discernible sensation until entering the body in stillness and humility becomes a regular practice in the life. This is because it’s the part of the body which is nothing that can be described or defined, and yet this apparent absence of feeling is a highly energised soul centre. The difficulty is that the emotions gathered around the chest, together with discursive energies arising from the stomach region, tend to smear the aperture of the plexus centre. When the frontal intelligence approximates the state of consciousness, the separation between inner and outer realms unites. Immediately, the perception passes through the solar plexus (often experienced as an accelerating at tremendous speed) into the pristine blackness of timeless inner space. This is intuited to be something beyond the normal boundaries of human experience, and is an introduction to reality which inspires the individual to travel onwards into the solar level of mind. The external solar system parallels with remarkable precision the journey of the soul towards cosmic consciousness. However, uninterrupted access into the planetary space through the solar plexus is only possible after having faced and crossed the threshold of the first cosmic body nearest the earth – the moon. The space between the earth and moon symbolises the subconscious realm, which represents everything that can be known and described by the human mind. As formless life enters existence on the time waves of terrestrial mind, the impersonal subconscious is superimposed with the lunar essence, without which life as sensual existence could not have evolved. The orbit of the moon creates a transcendent ring of celestial consciousness which surrounds the earth as the principle of nature. The lunar plasma engenders a quickening of the vital life force, which breaks down the original matter of the earth into the sap and flow necessary for organic life to flourish. The purpose at this evolutionary phase of life is to exceed the orbit of the moon, not externally in a spacecraft, but inwardly so as to neutralise the gravitational pull for recurrence in the world. The pull of the spirit is not unlike the medium of gravity, which draws all things back to the source of original power. As cosmic beings, we came out of the solar plexus into the body consciousness and, similarly, would return the same way at death; but this is rare in these materialistic times. The more common exit at the termination of the physical body is through the cranium, which necessitates a further process of purification. Beyond the moon the quality of inner space, having been divested of past, is infused with the consciousness of the other planets, which creates a spiritual line of power to the nucleus of the sun. In passing through the solar plexus, and then through the solar principle of the Sun, the being is finally united with its alter ego at journey’s end – or the end for now of a particular phase of mind.

A3! Translation: Banri Settsu’s SR [Twinkling Mankai Gold] - The Hero Is Banri! Part 2
Banri, along with Tsumugi, Itaru and Juza, help entertain Taichi’s siblings with a super sentai-themed etude.
Taichi: Alright, guys! Let's go explore the dorm!
Mirai and Masato: Okay!
Taichi: First off is the courtyard!
Mirai: Wow, there's a lot of flowers here!
Masato: It's so beautiful!
Izumi: Tsumugi-san from Winter Troupe has been taking care of them.
Mirai: I feel relaxed~!
Masato: Yup. Me too.
Izumi: …!?
(Someone is pulling me by the arm out of nowhere…)
Itaru: …
Izumi: I-Itaru-san…!?
Juza: "This chick is in our hands now."
Izumi: Huh!? Say what!?
Itaru: Play along, Director-san.
Izumi: (Play along… Are they doing an etude?)
(I don't really understand, but I guess I've gotta play along for now.)
"He-Help me!"
Masato: O-Onee-chan has been caught…!
Mirai: I'm scared, onii-chan!
Taichi: "Mi-chan, Ma-kun, get behind me!"
Mirai and Masato: Okay!
Taichi: "Who are you!?"
Juza: "We are servants of the demon king. In order to revive the great demon king, we will take this chick's heart."
Mirai: Don't take away onee-chan's heart!
Masato: Re, return her!
Taichi: "Don't do that!"
*attacks*
Juza: "Haa!"
Taichi: "Whoaah!"
*falls down*
Mirai: Onii-chan!
Masato: Are you okay? Are you hurt?
Taichi: "I-I'm fine… But more importantly, Director-sensei is…"
Juza: "Let's go. Our lord is waiting."
Itaru: "Come with us."
Izumi: "He-Help me!"
Mirai: Onee-chan…!
Masato: Somebody, please save us…!
Banri: "--Stop right there!"
Mirai and Masato: Gold!
Banri: "Are you okay?"
Mirai: Please save onee-chan!
Banri: "Yeah, leave it to me. I'll save her without fail."
"Hey, you underlings! Your opponent is me!"
Juza: "Tch, the cunning hero is here. I'll send you to the space."
Banri: "Haa!"
*attacks*
Juza: "...ugh!"
Banri: "Eat this!"
Juza: "Urrgh…!"
Banri: "Haa!"
*kicks*
Juza: "Ugh…!"
Banri: Cut it out, bastard. Just lose already. You know this is an etude, don't you?
Juza: Tch.
Banri: "Haa!"
Juza: "Aargh!"
"I'll, I'll remember this…!"
Mirai: Gold, you're so strong even when you don't transform!
Masato: Yup. You're so cool…
Banri: "Now, hand me Director-chan ba--."
Tsumugi: "So slow. What on Earth are you doing?"
Itaru: "My Lord! I apologize!"
Banri: "He's… the demon king!?"
Mirai: O-Onii-chan…
Masato: Will Gold be alright…
Taichi: "He'll be fine. Just believe in Gold."
Tsumugi: "The great demon king is waiting for the time he'll be revived. Itaru, hurry up and take away that girl's heart!"
Izumi: "No, Noo!"
Banri: "You think I'll let you!?"
Itaru: "Urrghh! I… lo...st."
Izumi: (...Itaru-san's villain is so weak!)
Banri: Are you okay?
OPTION 1: Y-Yup.
Izumi: "Y-Yup."
Banri: "Get behind me. I'll protect you."
Izumi: "--."
Banri: "...What's wrong?"
Izumi: "Nothing… I just thought you're reliable."
Banri: "...Well, I'm a hero, after all."
OPTION 2: Thank you, Gold!
Izumi: "Thank you, Gold!"
Banri: "...For some reason, hearing you say that made me kinda embarrassed."
Izumi: (A hero who gets embarrassed when someone thanks him… That's such a fresh trait.)
Banri: "Step back so you won't get injured."
Izumi: "O-Okay."
(Banri-kun looks like a real hero...)
Banri: "...Last one is you, huh, demon king."
Tsumugi: "I won't let anyone get in the way of our plan to revive the great demon king!"
Banri: "Haah!"
Tsumugi: "Hyaa!"
Banri: "Aargh!"
Tsumugi: "Hahaha, you're all bark and no bite!"
Banri: "Ughh…"
Izumi: (This is where we're supposed to cheer for him, right…!)
Good luck, Gold!
Come on, you two, give him some encouragement!
Mirai: Ye-Yeah!
Masato: Got it!
Mirai: You can do it, Gold!
Masato: Good luck!
Banri: "...I don't know why, but I'm feeling empowered."
"Take this!"
*attacks*
Tsumugi: "Aargh!!"
"...I might have lost today, but I'm sure the great demon king will come back to life…”
Mirai: Hooray! Gold defeated the demon king!!
Masato: Thank you for saving us, Gold!
Banri: "I've told you I’d fight if an enemy appears, right?"
Mirai: Yep!
Masato: So, so cool…!
Izumi: (Thank goodness it ended well.)
Taichi: "Thank you for keeping the peace of the Earth!"
Chikage: I'm back. It's quite lively here, huh.
Izumi: Ah, Chikage-san, this is--.
Mirai: It's the great demon king…
Masato: The great demon king is here…
Taichi: Huuh!?
Izumi: (Chikage-san is being treated as the great demon king…!?)
Banri: Seriously… Just when I thought it's all settled, the last boss has appeared.
Chikage: ...What in the world is happening here?
Masato: The great demon king looks strong…
Mirai: Do your best, Gold…!
Chikage: ….
I see. So I'm the great demon king.
Banri: With that said…
"--Can you accompany me for a bit, great demon king."

Yuzuru Hanyu Programme Concert ~Music with Wings~
The orchestra concert took place on 6 and 7 Jan 2020 in Tokyo. There was a broadcast of it in Feb and I ENJOYED IT SO MUCH.
VIDEO (thanks to fans who uploaded and shared)
It’s 2 hours+, and it’s like a journey through Yuzu’s skating life. I translated some narration briefly and also put down the time for each piece of music so that it’s easy to re-watch certain parts. Highly recommended to watch when you have some free time to enjoy it fully. You can watch it in 2 parts of one hour each (there is intermission halfway, haha).
So here are my notes and partial translation/paraphrasing. (asterisk * means it’s my own thoughts/feelings)
Starts with Summer Storm, his free programme when he was 12 (2006-2007).
3:55 Yuzu’s video message: (very briefly) he welcomes everyone to the concert and says how music is an essential part of figure skating. The programme is born from the music and he really wants to express music through figure skating. This is the first time that there is a concert of the music from his very first programme until the current programmes. So he hopes everyone will enjoy it.
5:54 - baby photo: Narrator: This is one year-old Hanyu-senshu. All of you already know this very well (*because the audience are all Yuzu-fans, haha) but let’s look back together. He was born on 7 Dec 1994 in Sendai.
2nd photo: Narrator: Around the time of this photo, when he was 4 years old, he started skating. Since we are here, orchestra members let’s also look at this photo together. (laughter) Very kawaii….. what a precious photo. (applause)
Cowboy costume photo: Narrator: When he was 6, he went for a competition, Dai-ei Cup, and he won with a great performance. His very first competition was at 5 years old and his programme music was 'Ultraman Gaia’. He loved the show and chose this music himself. Until now he still remembers the final pose. Let’s listen to 3 pieces of music now (from his childhood days).
7:15 Ultraman Gaia
8:40 Camptown Races (*so fun! Reminds me of my childhood days too!)
10:00 From Russia with Love (with 10 year-old Yuzu skating)
14:16 Narrator: From here, we will have 4 pieces of music from his novice and junior period. (Talks a bit about each piece.) ‘Mission Impossible ‘ and ‘Paganini’ were the programmes with which he won Junior GPF in 2009 (and Junior Worlds in 2010).
15:20 Sing Sing Sing (*a very lively piece and the drummer is so cool!)
19:35 The Firebird
24:30 Mission Impossible (with 15 year-old Yuzu skating)
27:50 Rhapsody on a theme of Paganini (with pianist Kotaro Fukuma) (*I was so happy to see him! Watched him perform Chopin live with Yuzu before, at FaOI 2015!)
34:45 Conductor’s speech (translation in link at the end)
37:20 Narrator: Now we go on to his senior programmes. (Talks a bit about each of the next 4 pieces of music.)
39:00 White Legend (*the Japanese traditional musical instruments are awesome!!!)
43:38 Zigeunerweisen (*violinist is amazing)
52:18 Etude in D-sharp minor (with pianist Kotaro Fukuma again)
56:56 Romeo & Juliet (with 17 year-old Yuzu skating)
-- Intermission--
1:02:40 Start of 2nd half
1:03:10 Parisian Walkways (*super cool!!!)
1:06:55 Notre Dame de Paris
1:12:28 Love Theme from Romeo&Juliet (*love this a lot)
1:17:27 Narrator: At the age of 19, he became an Olympic champion. These are photos from the victory parade in Sendai, his hometown. But there are memories that cannot be forgotten, the great earthquake of 2011. He chose 'Requiem of Heaven and Earth’ for his exhibition programme in 2015.
The pianist for 'Requiem’, Shiori-san, shares about his 2015 collaboration with Yuzu. (translation in link at the end)
1:21:07 Requiem of Heaven and Earth (*Had tears cos I watched Yuzu perform this live in 2015 and the sadness and anguish in his performance came flooding back.)
1:24:45 Narrator talks about the next 4 pieces of music.
1:25:45 Asian Dream Song (*so beautiful, I had tears again) (t/n. Yuzu’s programme 'Hope and Legacy’ consists of 'Asian Dream Song’ and 'View of Silence’, both composed by Joe Hisaishi)
1:33:28 Notte Stellata (with an opera singer)
1:37:57 Phantom of the Opera (with the same singer)
1:43:33 Chopin Ballade No. 1 (solo performance by Kotaro Fukuma)
After the performance, Kotaro-san shared about his collaboration with Yuzu in 2015 and his thoughts on Yuzu’s skating. (translation in link below, must read!)
1:58:26 Otonal (*love this)
2:02:21 Origin (*this is awesome! Wish Yuzu could perform Origin to a live orchestra one day!)
2:07:10 SEIMEI (*Perfect end to the concert! And I really love the Japanese drums!)
What an amazing concert! Besides the music which made me feel intensely all sorts of emotions (I got goosebumps so many times), it was also very interesting to see the musicians and the different instruments that created those beautiful sounds that we are so familiar with (due to watching Yuzu’s skating videos countless times, haha). The videography is very well done. Much thanks to the musicians and to Yuzu and to all who made this happen, and thanks to the fans who shared the video!
Translation of the conductor’s and the two pianists’ words can be found in this thread of tweets. (love what they said about Yuzu)

Non-TMA fic recs
In case you ever feel like knowing what kind of fic I read for some reason
TOP FIVE:
animal, vegetable, mineral series by stilitana (I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream)
In which Ted attempts to adopt a variety of philosophical outlooks in order to survive his condition, AM hears a bedtime story, and we conclude somewhere marginally less bleak than in the original so that your poor faint-hearted author can sleep at night.
Okay, if you read just one thing from this list, read this. It’s worth reading the original short story just so you can read this series (esp. part 2). I cannot stress enough how good this is. It’s just. Poetic and human and cathartic and. I practically have it memorised at this point. My absolute favourite fanfic of all time, and ranks higher than a good many books I’ve read, too.
The Sacred And The Profane by afrai (Good Omens)
Somewhere else the happy ending was different.
A roleswap au where Aziraphale is a demon and Crowley is an angel, while still managing to maintain their respective original personalities perfectly. And oh, god, it’s so painful, it’s horrible in exactly the best way. I don’t know how well known this one is in the post-Amazon-show fandom, but if you’re at all into GO and haven’t heard of it, it’s a classic. (And by classic I do mean it’s only a few years younger than I am.) Still the single best work I’ve read for GO, even all these years later. Hosted on ff.n, because, yeah, it’s old.
Revolutionary Etude by Ololon (ST:DS9)
Post-series end, Julian is living on Cardassia and in a relationship with Garak, and their future seems assured. But a chance encounter with a former Cardassian dissident leaves Julian wondering if he ever really knew Garak at all…and may jeopardise both their futures.
A bit dense but worth it. Post-canon Garashir focusing heavily on the Cardassian ‘cyclical memory’ and how a society can and cannot move on from its past. An exploration of guilt and moving on, and the lies and truths bound up in the stories we tell. Also, healthy, committed relationships are always a win. Cannot recommend highly enough.
have you heard by peradi (Star Wars Sequel Era)
“I heard FN-2187 was a Stormtrooper.” Finn sparks a revolution.
This is what fanfiction excels at—the opportunity to write something too stylised for traditional publishing. I love the cadence of this, and it’s also the kind of soft revolution that appeals to me. The different iterations of the fairy tale woven through it live in my brain rent free.
Whither Thou by sternel (ST:ENT)
Sometimes it was easier to imagine that Vulcan had been destroyed along with Earth. That her entire world was here: This house, this dog, this man. It was easier than acknowledging that her entire world – house, dog, man – was hers by choice. Her choice: one that could not be undone, one that was driven by forces beyond herself. Sometimes she told herself it was not really a choice at all, but the only option available. Sometimes she even believed it. This is the story of everything that happened before breakfast.
Somehow manages to combine character development with anteretrograde amnesia. Colony fic, very slow and contemplative, and a lovely mix of melancholy and hopeful. Mostly T’Pol centric. But then again I’m one of like two people who actually enjoyed ST:ENT, and it was solely because of T’Pol, so what can I say?
MORE
A Reflection of Starlight by AutumnGracey (Les Mis)
Curiosity causes Valjean to follow Javert to the Seine, and what he sees there changes everything. Now they must struggle to understand one another as their worlds come crashing down around them.
The consummate example of the post-Seine fix-it. Takes every loose thread of character development and explores them to their fullest. It’s such a natural character progression, and so soft, and when I first found it I read it twice back to back in a single night. Incomplete at 67 chapters, but the majority of the character development has happened by then and there’s no cliffhanger (ch 67 could serve as an end just fine) so it’s a very satisfying read regardless.
Ándre’s Burden by Anonymous (Les Mis)
Javert is a project, and a difficult one at that. Chabouillet finds himself taking on a protégé he never realised he wanted or needed. It’s an odd form of apprenticeship, but the strange and severe young man he picked out from the police academy is growing on Chabouillet, and amidst political corruption and underhand plotting Chabouillet considers falling for him an inconvenient and curable accident.
This one’s really good. It probably won’t make a lot of sense if you aren’t already in the Javert side of the Les Mis fandom, but if you are, give it a read, it’s good and tragic.
Domesticity by CeilingKiwi (Detroit: Become Human)
When Hank’s wife abandons him and their young son, Hank struggles to adjust to single parenthood. He buys a second-hand domestic android to help keep his household afloat, an android with buggy software and an unusual amount of initiative. As Connor becomes an indispensable member of the household, Hank finds himself questioning everything he thought he knew about androids—and about authenticity, personhood, and society.
Very long and very good. Slowly developing sentience, emotional intelligence, complexity… in terms of character development, this one has it all. Refuses to take shortcuts or easy answers. And the romance aspect is very well done. WIP but again, the emotional arc is already very satisfying where it’s at, so shouldn’t be skipped on that account.

At home.
Day x of quarantine. Yes that is what everybody is saying. I didnt lost count. I wasnt actually counting. Isnt this the first time when all people are mandated not to go out in order to live. It looks simple as it is but as more days pass, I feel like, for real, in order to live, we have to stay home.
I recently bought a new bag. I took hours to carefully pick the one where I can hide my phone while walking on the streets with it, a backpack worn how it should be worn - sa likod. I usually take my time in Watsons reading every product and choosing what my skin and hair needs. I schedule a half day on a weekend to spend on my parlor to have my hair done. I make sure I dont use the same shampoo in a month so my hair wouldnt get used to it and stop being smooth. Im addicted to hair conditioners. I relieve my stress sometimes on picking earring varieties from online shops before I sleep. I plan my outfit like on a monthly basis. No two same outfits within 2 weeks, make that three. I, I recently got addicted to close sandals. Im about to hoard another three pairs before all of this happened. Im like, contemplating, which should I use for weekend strolls, for church, for daily use in the office. Which will look minimal? Which will look classy? I need shoes!!! I just hoarded Etude House Eyebrow Pen online since all EH stores are closing down in PH and EH is my only buddy. I felt lucky that I didnt need to spend more on makeup and perfume since theres a lot from pasalubong so next, pano natin gagamitin at uubusin lahat to? There are a lot of recently opened milk tea shops near. I placed a number of desgner casings for my phone in my cart since it is 1 year already. Like it is that important.
Now all these things makes no sense at the moment. We only struggle to wait and survive. Poor or rich people, everybody seems scared. We realized what only matters in this world. Health. Security. Salvation. To Live. Life itself.
And of course, being with people important us, those we want to keep. in this situation.
Right now, what is important to do is to hope, WIth that hope, we pray, We pray to the only One now who has the power to end this life thief.
Me, some of the things Im most thankful for is the gift of TIME and REST, especially for our parents.
And yes, peak at the sky! It is crystal clear. Mother Earth is healing somehow. I hope we all too.
You have your time now. I hope you use it on what matters!
Keep safe, tumblrbees!
