The Grandma Bandit - Ethel Catts' Early Life (on Wattpad) https://www.wattpad.com/1141365804-the-grandma-bandit-ethel-catts%27-early-life?utm_source=web&utm_medium=tumblr&utm_content=share_reading&wp_uname=EquanimityStEvermore&wp_originator=QRL%2Bi7TzE9aXUW537cYgn7mDPK9UrV8F3wQHzcwHv%2FWpnjN5HAW8o0%2FukmMwTl9EfNheELdRm1AEOS%2BkUMjf46taSt6ZKxItBmmKraHRWReXNFIPQk3dwGImYhJSqo%2Fr
The Grandma Bandit was a woman who pulled off a short string of bank hold-ups in 1952 and evaded police for many months. I found out about her while researching the famous Cecil Hotel in Los Angeles. She caused such a sensation in newspapers that Mervyn LeRoy almost made a movie about her. She was in the headlines for quite some time. People are still telling her story today. She relates to the Cecil Hotel because a pickpocket who lived at the Cecil Hotel was a suspect in the robberies. I was able to find out a good bit about Ethel's childhood and family life. A lot of the information is from newspaper articles and family tree sites. It wasn't until 1955 that a good write-up was published on the case by the New York Daily News. This is a true story. My sources are articles found on newspapers dot com and family tree websites. If you enjoyed this story, please share and comment. If you want to see more, please let me know. I love to research historic topics. Rating is mature due tragic events, psychological disturbance, and drug use.

Babe London was an comedienne of early Hollywood. She appeared in more than 50 silent films and appeared alongside Charlie Chaplin, W.C. Fields, and Harry Langdon. Uncharacteristic of the film industry as we know it today, her acting career declined after she lost 100 pounds at the onset of a heart condition. London would then devote her creative energy to painting works inspired by her experiences in Hollywood. 75 of these paintings are housed in the American Heritage Center. Thinking about the movie The Fall (2006)
-and all the things it had to say about storytelling and art and the mutual relationship between the artist and audience,
-how at first the storyteller is only trying to distract the little girl so that she helps him to get pills to commit suicide, and the story grows a life of its own as they build a relationship and he learns more about her circumstances and humanity -
- the scene where the Storyteller is finally, brutally killing off all of the characters in the story because he's self hating and suicidal and angry--the visceral pain and hurt that he's inflicting on his listener and on himself-
"Why are you killing everyone?" the little girl cries in real distress
"It's my story!" He defends his right to do whatever he wants as the artist, and asserting that it doesn’t matter if he dies.
"It's my story too!- I don’t want you to die"
-and he finds the will to imagine a happy and hopeful ending for them both--
-and then!! There's also the commentary on the commodification of storytelling in earlyHollywood- the exploitation, injury, and death that actors and stunt people risk to bring art to life-
the pain and grueling work and literal bodies strewn in the wake of these magical bigger-than-life stories
-and thinking about Hannah Gadsby's assertion that artists should not be expected to suffer simply to bring beauty to others-
And finally... the costumes and cinematography. Of course

In the little town of Chanute, Kansas is the Martin and Osa Johnson Museum... it's pretty amazing. This 1940 publication of Osa's story turned up at an estate sale in Richardson, Texas, and I can't wait to read it. Starting in the 1920's this couple roamed the far reaches of the world, film and still cameras at the ready, capturing images of worlds now gone. If you have ever watched any of the black and white Tarzan movies, the scenes of the herds and tribes are theirs. #1900s #1910s #1920s #1930s #earlyhollywood #adventures #adventurers #adventuring #lostworlds #lostafrica #onehindredyears #ancientasia #ancientneareast #lostcultures #safari #therealabercrombieandfitch

I picked up this copy of 'The Man and the Moment' by Elinor Glyn from West Kirby Oxfam on Saturday so I thought I would feature her for #womanwriterwednesday ♀❤ To say she was quite a character is an understatement. She invented the concept of 'It' to describe someone with 'je ne sais quoi'. Although tame by today's standards, her novels were so racy in their time, she is considered a pioneer of erotic fiction. Also, I should mention they were semi-autobiographical!! 😮 She accomplished so much, but I'll just finish by saying that Joanna Lumley portrayed her in the film 'The Cat's Miow', she had tremendous influence in Hollywood and she absolutely adored her cats! 😻😻 #elinorglyn #themanandthemoment #foundinoxfam #thecatsmeow #itgirl #romanticfiction #femaleauthors #peoplewholovecats #peoplewholovecatsaremypeople #ilovedogstoo #theyarenotmutuallyexclusive #earlyhollywood #litpioneer #ladiesofliterature — view on Instagram https://ift.tt/2GMRDWj

* The centaur which had been on a trip to Kagoshima came back! In Kagoshima I was glad that the customer gave me a lot of energy, so it seems you liked it! * Taking a journey with one bag with the backdrop of the bustle of the city, it is recommended Centaur. * #KeiichiroGoto #redmoon1993 #redmoonwallet #RedmoonTradingPost #earlyhollywood @redmoontradingpost @early_hollywood http://ift.tt/2qKWewZ
