Given the unpopularity of the Julio-Claudians after Augustus and the relative newness of the principate, why weren't ambitious senators able to seize back control and return to a more republican government?

Hmm, I've seen a few posts talking about the rat part of the rat grinders logo but I'm thinking about the gears. Do we think they're working for/with GRIX?

Principal Danvers
The heavy oak door creaks as Andrea pushes it open to reveal a dimly lit office. It smells like old books and wood polish, the large wooden door glistening in the lamplight as Andrea stares at the imposing figure settled behind it. She sucks in a deep breath and allows herself an extra moment to slip into the character she has been desperate to play; the naughty schoolgirl summoned here to be disciplined for her latest prank.
Principal Danvers is not one to let naughty behavior go unpunished and, as blue eyes glare in her direction, Andrea struggles to believe that this is still her golden retriever girlfriend.
“Come in and close the door, girl,” Kara stands from behind the desk, her tall, muscular frame casting an intimidating shadow across the office. Her hair is pulled back into a bun almost as severe as her gaze, her piercing blue eyes focusing on Andrea with such an intensity that she can’t stop the shiver that trickles down her spine.
The thought of being at her mercy, even as the well tailored suit hides Kara’s defined arms, leaves her drenched with excitement.
“No, no,” Kara tsks as Andrea pulls out the chair opposite, “I don’t believe I asked you to sit down.”
Andrea blushes and swallows thickly, her hands trembling as she pushes the chair back into place. She clasps them together in front of her waist, attempting to be demure as the faux headmistress stares her down.
“I assume you know why you are here, Miss Rojas.”
“Yes, Ma’am,” Andrea croaks, her tongue threatening to stick to the roof of her suddenly dry mouth. “I was caught sneaking out of the dormitory last night after lights out.”
“Do you understand how much trouble you have caused?” Kara asks, her voice deep and raspy as she walks around the desk to close the gap between them. “It is my duty to ensure you are safe whilst in my care, and it is I who would have been held responsible if something had happened to you.”
Her lips curl into a cruel smirk, “which means it is also I who must decide the repercussions for such foolish behavior.”

I'll never come to terms with the casting of The Dressmaker (2015).
It's a great movie.
Kate Winslet is great in it as Tilly.
Liam Hemsworth is great in it as Teddy.
But how could the casting director/whoever is responsible for this think that anyone would believe that Kate Winslet's (who just turned 39 when filming started) and Liam Hemsworth's (who turned 25 a few weeks after filming wrapped) characters are the same age is beyond me.

Day One Hundred Thirty-Nine
A thing about towns in NH that isn't true about towns in most other places is that the townspeople get to vote on whether or not to approve the school's operating budget. And yesterday? They didn't.
They did approve a lot of other warrant articles related to the school district (maintenance funds and whatnot), as well as the contract for our support personnel, which is good. But we're going to the default budget (last year's budget plus any adjustments required by law or previous contract negotiations), so that means we're facing a cut of about $650,000, which is going to hurt. I don't think anyone was surprised, though; budgets have been failing all over the state, even in places that are far more wealthy and usually far more supportive of education.
We had a brief meeting so The Principal could talk about it, and try to answer questions, but there really aren't a lot of answers yet. I know the admins are going to try to make as many cuts as they can through attrition- just not rehiring positions when people leave- but more will need to be done. We'll see exactly what this will mean for us in the coming days and weeks.
On the plus side, today was both a half day and, as part of spirit week, "Adam Sandler Day." So picture a whole school- students and staff- wearing baggy pants, basketball shorts, Hawaiian prints, hockey jerseys, football jerseys, Red Sox hats, that kind of thing (Picture me trying to take my principal seriously while he's wearing a huge Bruins jersey and a backwards baseball cap).
And learning went on, as it always does!
My students and I read an article together about the start of the war between Russia and Ukraine- basically covering the Euromaidan to the 2022 invasion- and discussed that, and that's all we had time for since classes were short. It was solid, though; I got some great questions and comments. And I spent the rest of the day helping Mr. O, working down in the staff room (on my own because Mr. N's out sick), or squaring away my own grading and lesson planning.
And I said it was a half day, and I mean it was a real half day: we got to leave fifteen minutes after the students did! The trade-off is that we're staying later during our next early dismissal in May. The admins requested this- and the union agreed to it- because they want to do a particular thing with the local police department that needs the extended time.
Works for me!
