Okay, I give up. I've dug through your blog like a rabid raccoon trying to find the answer to this question so I shall assume that you have not answered it before. If you have, my apologies.
What art program and brush do you use? Your art has such a texture to it. It makes me think of the sensation of running my fingers over the pages of an old book. I'd like to see if I can recreate that myself.
Also, I thought Ingo was a ship captain when I first saw him too. You aren't alone.
Oh i don’t think i’be answered that before! Even if, i don’t find shit on my own blog so i really don’t blame you.
I’ve been using Procreate for years now almost every day and pretty much from the beginning i feel in love with the drawing brush Eaglehawk!
Might be the name, might be the nice pencil texture, might be both, but I haven’t found a brush that I love more than this one. I use it for all my lineart and sketching and often also shading because i love the texture so much! Otherwise for colouring I use Lucas Peinador’s Magic Chalk E which was a free brush pack.
edit: For references I use VizRef and it's a lifesaver! if you're working on PC, get PureRef, it's free but they give you a cool doggo gif if you donate :D
I’m very glad you also think Ingo looks like a weathered ship captain. Like he clearly has been through shit and I was pretty sure it was rough seas!

Claudia Donovan reimagined as Jesse Faden from Control because idk I can't get over it.

Do you have any prions? The bird. The birds with the common name of "prion".
PRIONS aka "Whalebirds"
Prions are Petrels in the genus Pachyptila. Also called "whalebirds", because some species feed near feeding or surfacing whales.
These pelagic birds feed mainly of marine invertebrates and small fishes.

What brushes did you use for that Jontim comic? The textures in it are so lovely. The brush like graphite feeling strokes next to the crisp lines are so yummy
GW dagger pencil and trisketched ink brush for the lines! I think for the shading it's eaglehawk. Hehe thank you I'm glad you like the textured it was very fun to work with

If its not too invasive, can I ask for brushes or other resources you may recommend? I'm plenty aware they don't make an artist good, but I'm always on the hunt for the perfect ones!
Oh, I am always on what feels like a never-ending hunt for brushes, I only use Procreate these days so these are Procreate brushes, at the minute I am really really enjoying these brushes called Frappe Pencil I love The Frappe Pencil Neo and Double Frappe smooth, you can see me using them in the last sketches I posted I think I solely used them in the drawings of Dhalia! I also really like the water-coloured brushes from Fatima Mandouh. There are some brushes that I also use a lot that are from paid brush packs like the TGTS - Scratchy squeegee and GvW InkAmigo Waterson Dry (that's the one I use to draw Horizon Walkers) the Jingsketch brushes are also really nice. I also like a few of the base brushes from Procreate, I love Nikko Rull, but I did edit mine a bit to be a wee bit more textured, I also like Eaglehawk, Tinderbox and Oberon. Resouces wise I use Magic Poser if I am having trouble getting a pose down, as well as taking reference photos of myself. I also use an app called Freeform that is kind like an inspo board where you can see everything at once, I use that for like background character outfit references and city references. I hope that's helpful! I tend to jump pencils quite a lot, so if there is ever an illustration i do that you want the breakdown of what pencils I used if I can remember which one it was I am happy to share!
#pencils may not improve someones skill per se but they can inspire someone and help them improve#having a good pencil always helps me and can inspire me so its good to share them!#if anyone else has any pencil reccomendations please share! I love finding you pencils to add to my absoloutly shocking collection

What brushes do u use
hi! These are the main brushes that I use (all default brushes from procreate that I tweaked a little in the setting). Usually I just use syrup for lineart, coloring and shading, but i would switch up between inka, tinderbox, and eaglehawk if I’m feeling brave

HIIII what brushes do u use……
HI ANON sorry for the ridiculously late reply 🙇!!
left: My favorite pen type brush for sketching/inking are the emilyamiao procreate brushes. they have a bit of texture and a nice flow so theyre great for stabbing out ideas. wet inky is a bit flat in shape and its better for inking imo.
right: painting brush used here is the default procreate brush eaglehawk, under the drawing section, and the lineart brush is fountain pen ❤️ (quote unquote) from I believe jingsketched's brush set??? the variation in line weight is nice but its a little what i would call "gritty" so it doesn't flow as well.
recently also very based and syruppilled. another procreate default brush under inking! lots of line variation, a triangular-ish shape, and no anti-aliasing. also good for painting LOL
left: 6b pencil (procreate default brush, under sketching) is great for sketching/lining depending on the feel and if you tilt ur pen to the side it makes a nice big grainy smudge which I like to use to indicate form shadow sometimes. i also made a modified version (see above) with the count turned way up and the scatter turned down iirc. if i remember later ill reblog with a brushpack file or something XD
right: vine charcoal 3 and 4 from kyles dry media set in photoshop. 3 is kinda blotchier and i mostly rlly use it for effect. 4 is this kind of soft triangular/rhomboidal brush that i use for quick sketches sometimes
TBHH it depends a lot on the style/feel of the drawing im going for/just the general mood so there's a few drawings where I probably just whipped something out of a random brushpack LMFAO but I tend to prefer flowier/harder brushes with a bit of size variation/jitter and an imperfectly round shape! ymmv.
#ask#anon#quirinahscreams#HERE COMES SIR YAPSALOT !! lemme dig thru my zip files and ill see if i can attach some abr files or whatever later in the morning :"P#sorry to anyone that uses other programs ue ue...um. if it helps two similar brushes in csp i like r turnip pen and the textured pen thingy#with zero stabilization. i forgot what it was but the second default pencil brush too#YIPPEE 👍

What type of brushes do you use for colouring in and inking ect, and do you have any tips for how to colour?
a lot of the brushes i use are default procreate brushes! they depend on any given situation and how i want to style my art.
studio pen is modified to a version that mimics ROTTMNT's pen. and i like using the round pen for my default sketching/casual lineart drawings because it's such an easy pen to use. i have different versions of it where i have different sizes saved up.
if i want a more sketchy line art, i use either eaglehawk or gloaming with the opacity slightly down to give the lines a more pencil-y look. i like it when my art looks imperfect and sketch :D
meanwhile these are the brushes i use for backgrounds/coloring/lineless art. i lean more into a painterly style, reminiscent of a children's book but with my own spin.
and finally, this is the principle i use for coloring. i also mess around with filters a lot but these can still apply even then. i posted this to patreon months ago but since i'm closing it down (until i get a greencard), here it is for everyone to see~
please do note that even if you use my brushes, techniques, or program, my style will never be the same as yours and i mean that in the most gentle way possible. don't mimic my artstyle. you can draw inspiration from mine or other artists, learn techniques and study their art. but it should always be for the goal of finding your own voice and feel.
these tools and techniques are a mixture of things i learned and things i adjusted for myself over the years. a lot of times, you will find another artist's techniques to be such an inconvenience for you and that's okay. it's because you're not using your own voice. use your style/color palette/technique and use it your own way~

if its okay may i ask what brushes and program you use? i absolutely love the look and style of your art
Sure! I use procreate for all my art and sometimes I do additional editing in artstudio pro. I mostly use standard procreate brushes (eaglehawk and nikko rull are my favorites), i just mix and match them until i get the needed result. I do use some custom brushes, but to be quite honest I'm not sure where I got them??
To achieve the painterly look I play a lot with sharpness and I try to blend not by using the smudge tool, but by layering tones on top of each other. It leaves the edges kinda messy, which helps a lot in this case. It's a time consuming process, but also gives you more control over the texture.
Also thank you so much :^33 I'm so excited to anwser my first question here on Tumblr hjejejejjeje

Howdy! Sorry if you've been asked this before, but what brushes/program do you use for your art? Your renders look so textured and edible rahaha
Ps I love love love your orv art, it makes my day every time I see it on my dash. I hope you're having a fantastic day :))
Hi! Thank you so much for liking my art :D I love having texture in my art so I’m glad that is getting portrayed well to others. I draw on a tablet with Procreate! Here are the main brushes that I use:
I sketch and lineart using the 6B pencil. For writing dialogue, I use the outline brush so people can read my messy handwriting a bit better haha
For this type of rendering, I use the Eaglehawk brush. Was initially drawn to it because of the brush’s texture; it works fine with clothes and face rendering, but it did take me awhile to get used to it.
For a more grainy texture (or for my black and white drawings), I use the Spectra brush! It’s kind of like using watercolors where it layers on top of one another and has a sort of “bleed” look to it.
For backgrounds, I mostly use the modified flat brush. I don’t draw backgrounds enough to use it often, but I really want practice rendering backgrounds more!
And almost always, I overlay a subtle noise texture to the whole piece afterwards :)
Being told my art is edible is like the highest compliment ever haha I also love getting to talk about behind the scenes stuff with my art so thank you so much for the ask! I hope you have a fantastic day too!!
#I was inspired by how user hehearse answers their art asks#I liked how they gave examples of their work alongside the brush and I thought it is a good way to demonstrate how the brushes are used#kiwimint ask

Port Arthur | Tony Robinson Explores Australia: The People Are Revolting
Port Arthur today is a major tourist attraction in Tasmania, and it's difficult to imagine it was once one of the most terrifying places on Earth. Location was always part of its appeal, but not for the picturesque surroundings. Port Arthur is a natural fortress; accessible only via a narrow strip of land known as Eaglehawk Neck.
