ok so this is inspired by [ this ] post and these tags:

i loooove this!!!! both for the tradition and for the ~general vibes for astaira andddd for the plot point it could play!!!!! and i thought we might take this opportunity to talk about weddings in general -- i was literally reading up on traditional irish wedding vows just last night bc we were talking about domhnall's wedding etc!

i can also 100% see @forgottenvalentina specifically objecting to a tradition the astairans hold dear on ~roderick grounds or vice versa specificially w the hope itd invalidate the wedding too smdh so this verrrrrry much fits!

also the wedding vows:

and like literally swearing by the breeze and the sun and water and land like????? if that aint so astairan!!!!!! there's def tons of other stuff but yeah

also apparently irish brides traditionally wore blue, back in the day, that were long and flowy w intricate embroidery, celtic knots, and a big sash or belt! often including a hooded cloak in weather!

she also traditionally has a handkerchief embroidered w like a motto or the couple's initials or an emblem or smth of significance to them, and then that's used as the bonnet for the firstborn child at their christening, and handed down to them to potentially use at their own wedding etc generation after generation

also the handfasting probs means that 'tying the knot' is an expression in astaira (that would baffle the varmonts too btw!) which is fun <3

[ This is a funny Irish wedding tradition. The child of Prague is a statue popularly known to ward off bad weather, which can rue the day. The figure is placed in different ways but performs the same function. ] Some parents leave their children in their hallway the night before a wedding. Good morning! I was tagged by @gwynbleidd and @katsigian in the past couple days to complete this uquiz as my OCs. thanks for tagging me 🫡🧡 I decided to take it as my silly little family from my silly little world because my world is all I'm thinking about lately as far as OC stuff goes….. and honestly I feel like these results gave me even more insight to how my characters operate and how they complement each other. Especially Kilian's result i think shows me a side to his already existing sadness that I hadn't considered enough before; i think a lot about his anger but not as much about his sadness, so this is exciting to explore. It was fun!!

Finn complains about all of his siblings and ... ngl Eabha is def included int this alsjflsafj

She's a nerd (god how embarrassing!) and def a killjoy (what eldest sister isn't) and those are probably her two biggest offenses in his eyes but lbr he loves her so much and has said (on multiple occasions) that Eabha is the only one who has the disposition (and the training!!) in their fam to actually lead Calleary (or this poor estate that Cormac is to be inheriting) and Roderick is a moron for not seeing that!!)

He has always been lowkey super impressed by Eabha and everything she's accomplished and has definitely (on multiple occasions) thanked the guardians that he was not born to that position, because he would literally want nothing to do with any of it!!) And now he's finding himself as the only most competent male member of his family and he might actually have to do something about it and he hates it!!! And it has only gone to make him respect his sister even more, tbh <33

Midnight Meetings | Eabha & Aine

"I am brave, mama," Peader had said to her, when she had tucked him into bed. "I am not afraid."

Aine kissed her son's forehead, determine that she would not shed any tears until she had left. He looked so young, just now, snuggled amongst the blankets and Aine suddenly found that she was angry: angry with a man who would make her little boy witness what he had seen today.

"You are very brave, my darling. But your poor mother is not. Would you let me sit here with you, for awhile?" She was determined not to leave her son's side until sleep found him, and even then, she was afraid to leave his side, lest he fall into an uneasy one filled with terrors.

Aine could not say if she stayed with her son for minutes or hours, but it was not until she was satisfied that his slumber was peaceful that she finally left the nursery. Given how quiet the halls of Lorcan had grown, Aine determined that it must be quite late, but the idea of returning to her own empty room where her husband no longer slept, made wandering the cold hallways a more comforting alternative.

This cruel war had taken so much from so many, but if there was to be any silver lining to be found amongst all of the loss, Aine would admit that having her brothers and sisters so close at hand, was certainly a blessing. And tonight, when she passed the rooms where her elder sister slept, she found she was grateful that Eabha was here.

Aine tapped softly upon her door. "Eabha?" She whispered, "Are you awake?"

I'm not sure how obvious Eabha is that she's interested in Alaric, but honestly this just might be something he'd consider tbh??

I do think that Alaric feels like he needs to take a wife and I think w/ all of the complicated feelings he has towards Astaira, that maybe taking an Astairan wife would be good to help promote good Varmont/Astaira relationships/??

While he enjoys flirting w/ Sonya, I feel like he honestly doesn't think having to deal w/ her mom is worth it plus, idk if Roderick really is interested in her or not?? But if he was, Alaric would also back off (he doesn't need to be into 2 girls that Roderick is trying to marry!!!)

I also think he believes that Eabha would be a good fit because she grew up expecting to run her own estate and he is looking for a woman who could effectively be his steward, since he knows that he likely will nEVER be settled and always pulled away on the next conquest his brother decides they shall go on and he wants to know that his home/children/etc are in good hands!

I do think that the only hitch in this plan, is whether or not Farrington is here in Astaira or in the og empire, because I feel like Eabha wouldn't want to leave??? Honestly, all of her siblings would be welcome to live w/ her, if they wanted, but yeah I'm sure that complicates things!! (not to mention that Alaric is carrying a silent torch for one of Eabha's best friends #notawkward)

Okay, I was looking at your Yang designs and I see the handkerchief in each and every design, is there a specific thing regarding it that Yang wants it on her person any chance she gets or is it just a design choice? It's not bad but something gnawing at me whenever I see it if there's specific significance behind it or not or am I just overthinking it?

Originally it was just the sash she kept in her canon V2 cause I liked how it kept some purple on her, but then while I was redesigning I was like-

Wait, why not make it a piece of Eabha's cape? She's the purple rose?

So yeah, in the redesigned version, the sash is what's left of Eabha's cape that Yang kept, since she would remember some of her late grandmother and every Rose girl is a different colour of the rose (Ruby/Red, Yang/Yellow, Summer/Pink, Eabha/Purple, Guiying/Blue)

Let Me Be Your Guide | Kale & Eabha

Kale supposed he oughtn't have been surprised when Eabha asked him to sneak her into Hanthom. He supposed it had come to him as a shock that she would risk being caught with him while undermining Godfrey's authority all in one swoop, but it only took him another second to realize that she had real love and concern for the people of Hanthom and she meant to see, with her own eyes, how they were and deliver what she could to ease any burdens they were facing without the Callearies to preside over them.

Eabha Calleary would do anything for her family, he knew, but she would always do anything for her people.

They had arranged to meet on the outskirts of Lorcan, so Kale did not have to risk being caught by any of Rian's men who patrolled the area. Eabha, herself, was not likely allowed to leave on her own, but it would be a far better thing for her to feign that she had only been out for a walk than to be caught sneaking about with an escaped felon.

He knew it was her as soon as he caught her figure moving through the darkness. She wore a dark colored cloak to hide her features, but Kale thought he would still know her anywhere.

"It's regrettable you never did anything this fun when we were children," He teased, coming out of his hiding place in the shadows. Not that she never did anything fun, but she was certainly one of the more responsible ones who were always trying to reel in the younger, more wild ones.

"I think it also probably speaks to why you've jumped from responsible eldest sister to my, quite literally, partner-in-crime. I don't think it can be healthy -- never getting into any real trouble when you are younger. If in the end, you are just as wild as me." He winked, "Makes you wonder what all of that restraint was really for."

This situation was certainly not the same as the sort of trouble that they used to get up to when they were younger, but Kale couldn't resist the prospect of teasing her about her newfound life of crime, when Eabha Calleary had always been one of the last people Kale would have ever expected to do anything that was against the law.

But then, Roderick Varmont had changed so much about the way things were in Astaira, he thought.

Just then, he caught the makings of a smile upon her lips and he felt his heart skip a beat knowing that it was for him. It was good to know, he supposed, that the Varmonts had not managed to change everything ...

General Appearance: Éabha looks very much like her mother, with thick, dark hair that curls softly. Her Irish heritage comes out in the wealth of freckles covering her face and arms--these never fade no matter the time of year. Large brown eyes echo her mother's, as does her slight build. Like both of her parents though, this slight build belies a good amount of physical strength.

Personality: A bookworm like her mother, Éabha is rather shy and dreamy. She prefers to stay in her world of stories, and it takes a good deal of coaxing to bring her back into the real world.
