Hong Kong Outdoor Activities: 10Best Outdoors Reviews
Tumblr media
Hong Kong is a big city, for sure, but it’s got a great outdoors that would appeal to adults and children alike. Four-tenths of Hong Kong is officially designated country park, few parts of the city aren’t in sight of water, it’s dotted with parks large and small, and the outlying islands are a world away from the concrete jungle.
One of Hong Kong’s most famous attractions is the Star Ferry, which putters back and forth between Hong Kong Island and Kowloon. Besides being highly inexpensive, it’s also one of the world’d great sightseeing trips. Nothing says “outdoors” like one of Hong Kong’s street markets, such as Ladies Market. And then there’s Hong Kong’s brace of theme parks – Disney and Ocean Park. Of course, you don’t have to head to a “destination” – simply wandering the streets and alleyways is an entertainment in itself, and the city is very safe, with hardly any street crime.
One thing to note: Hong Kong gets hot in summer time – take adequate drinking water if you are venturing out to one of the more remote country parks, and don’t be shy about using an umbrella to ward off the sun. It’s what the locals do on a regular basis.

Stanley is possibly Hong Kong’s best-known market. And with good reason. It’s part of a community set by the sea, with plenty of restaurants and cafes so you can pause for refreshment. The goods on sale are fabulously varied, and the traders generally cheery and not averse to bargaining. There’s no charge for entry, of course, so visitors are free to wander about and enjoy the spectacle. There’s a beach nearby, and Murray House, a 19th-century building which was moved here lock, stock and barrel from Central, stands by the shore. One way or another, Stanley is a great day out.
Recommended for Outdoor Activities because: It’s by the seaside, in a picturesque village, and getting there and back on the top deck of a double-decker bus from Central is thrilling.
Ed’s expert tip: Pace yourself, there’s lot to explore here, so build lunch or supper into your itinerary.

There are four main tours with Heliservices, the only flightseeing operation in Hong Kong. The first flies around Hong Kong Island, concentrating on Victoria Harbour. The flight lasts approximately 15 minutes. Slightly longer, the Hong Kong Island Experience takes in the whole of the Island, looping down over Stanley and Aberdeen and the beaches and bays on the south of the island. Longer still, the half-hour Kowloon and Hong Kong Island Experience heads north over the mountains that separate the city from the New Territories. Finally, the Geopark Experience, of a similar length, flies east to take in Sai Kung Country Park and the Hong Kong Geopark. The tours usually employ a seven-seater MD902 Explorer, and they’re piloted by expert crews. A full safety briefing is given beforehand, and safety equipment such as lifejackets are provided.
Recommended for Outdoor Activities because: No matter where your fly, or for how long, it’s a thrill a minute with Heliservices.
Ed’s expert tip: Place your camera as close as possible to window to avoid the reflection.

This site dates back over a century, to when Lei Yue Mun Fort was a strategic part of Hong Kong’s defenses. It was the scene of fierce fighting during the Japanese invasion on 1941, and later became a regular barracks. So its current role as a military museum couldn’t be more apt. This is a magnificent setting, and the exhibits are both indoors and out, above ground and below. The best way to take it all in is to follow the historical trail which leads visitors around the entire museum. This is probably Hong Kong’s largest museum, so allow sufficient time for your visit.
Recommended for Outdoor Activities because: Most of the exhibits are outside, so this is quite an unusual museum.
Ed’s expert tip: Don’t think this museum is just for military buffs: it’s for anyone interested in Hong Kong.

This well-known attraction was built in 1973 and is still one of the most active Buddhist temples in the city. The lush gardens, with their waterfalls, ponds and pavilions, inspire numerous photographs. Be sure to wander through the arcade, where a palm reader will tell your fortune – some will even do it in English. Named for a shepherd boy who was said to have mystical healing powers, this temple still has a magical feeling. Wong Tai Sin is deluged at Lunar New Year, usually late January or early February, when large swathes of the population come to worship and pray.
Recommended for Outdoor Activities because: As well as the temple itself, there are ample grounds to wander around.
Ed’s expert tip: This is one of the easiest temples to visit as it’s right next to the MTR station.

Surrounded by high-rises, this downtown racecourse is one of the greatest stadiums on earth to enjoy a sweaty, noisy and adrenaline-pumping horse race at night. Dating back to 1844, the 55,000-seat racecourse is one of the earliest public facilities in colonial Hong Kong. Regular races take place every Wednesday and Saturday from September to June on the 30-meter-wide grass track. A 978-seat iPad-equipped betting hall is located on the second floor of platform one. Visitors can either pay HK$10 (US$1.3) to sit on the public spectator seats or HK$100-150 (US$13-19) to enter the member-only zone. There are a total of seven restaurants and bars in the complex from Cantonese dining to al fresco drinking. On the second floor of the Happy Valley Stand of the racecourse, there is a 670-square-meter museum, Hong Kong Racing Museum, tracing the past and present of the city’s enduring pastime.
Recommended for Outdoor Activities because: Race nights are like a circus with the whole crowd enthralled by the races and roaring their appreciation.
Ed’s expert tip: There’s a “beer garden” with racing commentary in English available at Happy Valley near the finish line.

The New Territories, once home to nothing but pastoral meadowlands, are quickly becoming industrialized and commercialized. However, this park remains a bastion of natural beauty. This unspoiled seaside area of parkland features hiking trails dotted with informative visitor centers. See the area from a watery vantage point by renting a kaido (a small boat) in the town of Sai Kung, which is flanked by protected parks. Locals say eating seafood in this town is a must. The beaches at Tai Long Wan, on the eastern fringe of the park, are the most lovely in Hong Kong and well worth the hike out.
Recommended for Outdoor Activities because: This is perhaps the greatest of Hong Kong’s great outdoors: rolling hills, lovely beaches, even surf!
Ed’s expert tip: If you are hiking this park, take enough food and water and there are not many refreshment points.

Escape the city center for a family day trip to fantasy by the overly cute Disneyland Resort Line from Sunny Bay metro station. Currently the smallest of all Disneylands, the 240,000-square-meter park is compact and easily navigated (like everything else in Hong Kong). The wonderland consists of seven sections including two world exclusives: Mystic Point and Grizzly Gulch. The former is the latest addition to the park and features a haunted Victorian-style castle owned by fictional explorer Lord Henry Mystic as well as the most advance trackless ride Disneyland has built. The latter is another original story designed just for Hong Kong. Set in the American West, the sandy yellow section has a hair-raising gold mine roller coaster. The comprehensive resort also contains two large-scale hotels for ultimate Mickey fans: 600-room American-style Hollywood Hotel and 400-room Victorian-style Disneyland Hotel.
Recommended for Outdoor Activities because: This is Disney with Chinese characteristics, well away from the city, and a great chance to mingle with Mainland pleasure seekers.
Ed’s expert tip: Stay for the nightly “Disney in the Stars” fireworks show at 9pm. It’s truly unforgettable.

Occupying three blocks of Tung Choi Street, this enclave of more than 100 stalls represents the epitome of Asia’s market culture: a bit crowded, a lot noisy but totally stimulating. Rather than what its name suggests, the 1,000-meter-long market sells a wide selection of clothes, shoes and travel souvenirs, from US$5 sandals to Chinese necklace pendants to the “I Love Hong Kong” T-shirts. Although it’s been running for about three decades, this government-licensed street market is still set up from scratch every day. Vendors build their stalls with canvas at noon and pull them down when the market closes around midnight. Best time to go is after 7pm when tourists and merchants are at their optimal size. Nearest metro station is Mongkok via exit E2.
Recommended for Outdoor Activities because: Of all Hong Kong’s outdoor markets, this is one of the liveliest.
Ed’s expert tip: Bargain hard or you’ll be a bargain. A good strategy is to halve the asking price, at least.

This massive wonderland is a combination of amusement park, aquarium and zoo. It has enough activity to keep everyone in the family busy for an entire day. Built around several hills near the South China Sea, the 780,000-square-meter park is divided into two sections: The Headland and The Lowland. They are connected by a 1,400-meter-long cable car system. The Lowland houses two giant pandas, a variety of fun animal shows and Dolphin Encounter, 90 minutes of up-close-and-personal time in a pool with the friendly cetaceans. The Headland section is equipped with several thrilling ocean-side scream machines (roller coasters, water rides, etc), a vast aviary with more than 1,000 birds and Marine World, a massive aquarium with a fabulous jellyfish exhibit, a shark tunnel and a gigantic reef tank with some 2,000 fish.
Recommended for Outdoor Activities because: Spread over a large area with a cable car in between, Ocean Park’s rolling acres are sheer fun.
Ed’s expert tip: Dolphin Encounter participants must be at least eight years old.

Star Ferry is the loveliest attraction in Hong Kong. This 115-year-old service is one of these rare attractions that are hailed by both tourists and locals. Shuttling between Tsim Sha Tsui on Kowloon side, and Central and Wan Chai on Hong Kong island, these short boat rides represent a lifestyle of the past: slow, soothing and stress-free. That’s exactly where the excitement and enjoyment lies. It’s fascinating to see the hyper-busy city from these boats: century-old colonial buildings rub shoulders with glass-walled skyscrapers on the two jam-packed waterfronts. Even with the subway efficiently connecting Kowloon and Central, locals still choose to ride the Star Ferry now and then for that classic Hong Kong moment.
Recommended for Outdoor Activities because: The ferry’s upper deck grants marvelous city and marine views. And what a deal!
Ed’s expert tip: Time your star ferry ride with A Symphony of Lights to achieve an optimal Hong Kong moment.

Putting the spring back in Delhi’s walk season: Guided tour organisers offer alternatives and chart the road post lockdown - travel
https://www.liveindiatimes.com/putting-the-spring-back-in-delhis-walk-season%e2%80%89guided-tour-organisers-offer-alternatives-and-chart-the-road-post-lockdown-travel/
Spring is the season when Delhi can be viewed in all its glory. Nooks and crannies are lined with fragrant blossoms, street food somehow tastes yummier (if that was even possible!) and the crowds don’t seem bothersome. But this time, the lockdown has forced everyone inside, making these vistas a distant memory. This does not mean that you miss out on the glorious sights that Delhi has to offer. Many Delhi walk specialists are coming up with innovative ways to keep their audiences engaged. From cook-along sessions to digging deep into their rich archives to bring out hidden tales, there is so much to look forward to.
“Everything has shifted online; whatever we would do during our walks, we do on our social media now,” says Asif Khan Dehlvi, founder, Delhi Karavan. “I have one-on-one interactions with people who message me directly. My phone number is open for anyone who wants to take part in these discussions. We are posting old videos and stories which were never shared, and updating our social media with trivia and historical facts,” he shares.
Groups are innovating by inviting guests and experts on their platforms to provide something new to the audience every day. A regular on the country’s food walks network, Vivek Vaid, co-founder of Foodadvisor, says, “We have conducted yoga classes on our group. We are doing storytelling sessions on food, food history and culture. There are live cooking and baking sessions. We have events scheduled on Facebook and Instagram every day, which are free and anyone can tune in.”
Read: Could virtual travel be a solution for our wanderlust during coronavirus pandemic?
Earlier, some of these groups would hold walks every day, or at least every weekend, and the revenue could range between ₹ 25,000 to ₹ 1.5 lakhs. “It is not just the organisers who are facing the consequences, but also the stakeholders. We had calligraphers, librarians, cooks, kabootarbaaz, handicraft artisans and many more as part of our walks. Their business is affected, too,” says Abu Sufiyan, founder of Purani Dilli Walo Ki Baatein.
youtube
Spring, and the holy month of Ramzan, were especially busy for walk organisers. “Ramzan is the time when we would host iftaar and sehri food walks. Our last food walk was on March 12, post which all tours got cancelled. We are in the process of making refunds and payments. The cash flow has stopped completely,” says Anubhav Sapra, founder of Delhi Food Walks, adding, “Through our videos, we take the viewers across cities, exploring local cuisine and sharing interesting stories about the history of the cuisine. We have content for the next two months, but I don’t know what will happen after that.” His group would host 3-4 people every day, charging from ₹ 1,500 – ₹ 3,000 per person depending on the tour chosen. With the impact on tourism, and the threat of the pandemic, only time will tell how the industry fares.

Gen Z - Airbnb’s Fastest Growing Market for Experiences in Asia Pacific
Tumblr media
Airbnb has announced that customers aged 24 and below, or Generation Z as they are called, comprise its fastest growing guest segment for Airbnb Experiences in Asia Pacific, with Generation Z guest bookings in Thailand specifically growing by 228% year-on-year. Airbnb currently offers more than 40,000 Experiences around the world today, with over 8,000 in Asia Pacific. The company launched three new Experiences categories this year alone, expanding its collection of unique travel experiences with Airbnb Adventures, Airbnb Animal Experiences, and Airbnb Cooking Experiences. Perhaps not surprisingly, and confirmed by the latest Airbnb data, the most-booked experience categories by Gen Z guests in Thailand involve food - with two of the top three Experiences learning to cook Thai food, and the top spot a city and food tour. Across the region, Bali, Tokyo, Kyoto, Seoul and Sydney rank amongst the top five Airbnb Experiences hotspots for Gen Z travellers. The most-booked Experience categories by Gen Z guests in Asia Pacific include Sports and Nature Experiences, Cooking and Food & Drink Experiences, Entertainment Experiences and Arts and Culture Experiences. “Travelers today want unique, memorable experiences and that’s what we deliver. The rapid growth of Gen Zs booking Airbnb Experiences reflects how this new generation actively seeks a different form of travel,” said Parin Mehta, Managing Director for Airbnb Experiences, Asia Pacific. “We see this manifesting three-fold: firstly, Gen Zs are driven by a new experience-led economy where they place greater value on experiences over ownership. They are also traveling more than the generations before them, and finding ways to make travel a significant part of their lifestyle. Lastly, they have a deep understanding of how technology can transform the way they travel and know to turn to platforms like Airbnb for the unique and authentic experiences they want.”
Tumblr media
To stay ahead of the curve, Airbnb Experiences has launched several seasonal and on-trend experiences in addition to new categories. This year, guests from all around the world were invited to ride this summer’s hottest K-wave in Seoul with the launch of K-pop and K-beauty Experiences in August, and were able to book unique sakura-themed Experiences in Tokyo and Kyoto during the cherry blossom season in Japan. “For most travellers today, traveling goes beyond sightseeing - it’s also about experiencing culture, exploring nature and pursuing hobbies,” added Mehta. “They want to experience more immersive, meaningful travel through personal interaction with locals. However, this is usually hard to plan and relies on knowing someone ‘on the inside’, which is what Airbnb Experiences aims to deliver.” See latest Travel News, Interviews, Podcasts and other news regarding: Airbnb, Trends, Experiences, Ubon, Sisaket, Khon Kaen, Roi-Et. Tijuana Baja California
Baja California is a Mexican state on the Baja California Peninsula, bordering the U.S. state of California. The landscape spans mountains and beaches on the Pacific Ocean and the Gulf of California. Beautiful towns near the U.S. border include Tijuana, famous as a tourist spot and shopping destination, as well as the town of Rosarito, with its wide, sandy Pacific beaches. This long, thin stretch of land occupies the most northeasterly corner of Mexico. It borders the U.S. and lies directly below some of the more well-known parts of its south-west coastline like San Diego and Los Angeles.

Tijuana
Tumblr media
Pedestrian border crossing sign Tijuana-Mexico
Tijuana is on the ocean but is not known for its beaches, for boating, or as a seaside resort. However, it is in cabbing distance of Rosarito – the trip will cost US$20, while Mexicoach will bus you there for around $10. Ensenada is further down the coast but easily accessible by car or bus.
Visitors to Rosarito and Ensenada should note that the main road is a toll road, with small sedans and trucks being tolled at M$27-30 or US$2.18-$2.41. Either currency is accepted generally.
Visit the world famous Zona Norte “Red Light District” Tourists, American Military, and locals alike have been venturing to this area for decades. Be aware that this is a dangerous area, relatively speaking, but this is compensated for by a large police presence. Visitors should take caution just as they would visiting any high-crime area of a major city.
It’s particularly popular amongst so-called “snowbirds”, retirees from cold locations in the U.S. and Canada who head south for a few months to escape the harsh winters. It’s also a favorite getaway for families over the Thanksgiving and Christmas period looking to catch some rays rather than dig their cars out of multiple feet of snow. The Sea of Cortez and the Pacific Ocean, snorkeling and if you want; the crazy busy, yet beautiful tip of Baja at Cabo San Lucas. Each one brings its own unique and interesting vibe.
San Javier
A charming little village located in the mountains behind Loreto. Most Baja visitors stick to the coast and miss a lot of the charm. This rustic little town located in the interior backcountry is a fantastic hideout if you are seeking for a calm vacation. There’s an impressive church, a few places to eat and drink, and a basic hotel. You can drive to San Javier, but the best way to go is to hire a horse or mule for the journey from Loreto.
Safety
Think twice if you want to take a moto taxi out of town and make sure the driver is experienced. The roads outside are rough, there are ups and downs. The driver often has a helmet, you don’t. Motorbikes are the most popular means of transportation, a ride outside the town as a passenger may be challenging for a first timer.

Offshore, Rosarito Underwater Park is an artificial reef featuring the remains of Uribe 121, a former navy ship. Feel the gentle soft sea breeze while the sound of the pleasant ocean waves takes you to a stress-free world of tranquil, as it accompanies the sound of seagulls nearby. Enjoy surfing, diving, hiking or basking in the sun for the beautiful tanned skin. In the distance, you can see the whales migrating to warm waters. You have the choice of being pampered in a relaxing massage in one of the inviting spas.

Ardèche Ancient Painting
Ancient Art Cave Drawing Chauvet-Pont-d’Arc Cave-France
Brief History
The Chauvet-Pont-d’Arc Cave in the Ardèche department of southern France is a cave that contains some of the best-preserved figurative cave paintings in the world, as well as other evidence of Upper Paleolithic life. It is located near the commune of Vallon-Pont-d’Arc on a limestone cliff above the former bed of the Ardèche River, in the Gorges de l’Ardèche. This cave is full of coolest history ever! Do you know that this cave was first discovered and explored by a group of three speleologists on December 18, 1994, it is considered one of the most significant prehistoric art sites and the UN’s cultural agency UNESCO granted it World Heritage status on June 22, 2014.
Eliette Brunel-Deschamps, Christian Hillaire, and Jean-Marie Chauvet for whom it was named six months after an aperture are now known as “Le Trou de Baba” was discovered by Michel Rosa (Baba). Another member of this group, Michel Chabaud, along with two others, traveled further into the cave and discovered the Gallery of the Lions, the End Chamber. In doing so they became the first people in 30000 years to cast eyes on these paintings. Cool right? Yeah, I kinda wish I was one of them.  Although the date of this painting has been a matter of dispute a study published in 2012 supports placing the art in the Aurignacian period, approximately 32,000–30,000 years BP. Another study published in 2016 using additional 88 radiocarbon dates showed two periods of habitation, one 37,000 to 33,500 years ago and the second from 31,000 to 28,000 years ago with most of the black drawings dating to the earlier period. Phew!

Cave Near Bidon France Gour’s des grottes_de Saint Marcel d’Ardèche-France
Bidon is a commune in the Ardèche department in southern France. The area has been inhabited by humans at least since the Upper Paleolithic, as attested by the famous cave paintings at Chauvet Pont d’Arc. The plateau of the Ardèche river has extensive standing stones (dolmens and menhirs), erected thousands of years ago. The river has the largest canyon in Europe and the caves that dot the cliffs—which go as high as 300 meters (1,000 feet)—are known for signs of prehistoric inhabitants (arrowheads and flint knives are often found).s
Tumblr media
The Ardèche river flows as far as the Rhône, following a course mostly to the south-east. This Karst region is formed of calcareous limestones, where the streams flow in steep-sided valleys separated by sharp crests. With a generally low altitude the Bas-Vivarais. Bas-Vivarais is a traditional region in the south-east of France, covering the département of Ardèche, named after its capital Viviers on the river Rhône. The area of the Vivarais suffered greatly in the 9th century with raids from Magyar and Saracen slavers operating from the coast of the province resulting in an overall depopulation of the region enjoys a warm, and dry, almost Mediterranean climate perfect for family vacation !.
One awesome truth about this region is the irresistible charm of this little village Ardèche that surrounds a vibrant atmosphere full of life. Right alongside the Ardeche river, you will spend the fantastic and excellent day canoeing down the river to the Pont d’Arc, a must for anyone visiting this area.
Don’t fail to also visit some of the local caves and a high ropes course with a zip wire across the Ardeche river if you are traveling with your kids then they will love it!
From BBQ to fresh stone baked pizzas, and fresh juice to delicatessen if you are missing home food. The region restaurant serves fresh cook meals and whats more? the tours and the whole package are affordable!
From mesmerizing weather to skies wide and bright, temperatures more elevated (3 or 4 °C in January). The winds from the north-east are dominant, but those of the south (known as the “vent du midi”) and of the west are full of humidity, bringing heavy precipitation for a few days at a time.  This is the country of the vine, of shrubland, of cereals and extensive fruit trees etc- Definitely recommends this one for family vacation, get here!

Vietnamese willing to pay to enjoy World Cup in Russia

Many Vietnamese football aficionados are ready to travel to Russia this summer to explore the country’s attractions and watch the 2018 FIFA World Cup, local travel agencies said.
More than 500 local customers have booked packages with watching World Cup matches, with stadium tickets as high as US$2,300 apiece, included in the itinerary, according to leading tourism company Vietravel.
Vietravel, as one of the official ticket retailers of the quadrennial international football tournament, said tickets for the July 15 final game had been sold out as of last weekend.
The company also ran out of tickets at lower prices, below $1,000.
“There are only tickets for some group-stage matches and the semi-finals and quarter-finals left, starting from $2,300 a ticket,” a company representative said.
This is only the price to enter the stadium to watch the World Cup, not the total price for a package from Vietnam to Russia, according to tour organizers.
Vietnam’s GDP per capita was $2,185 in 2016, according to World Bank data.
Tran Thi Bao Thu, director of marketing communications of tour operator Fiditour, told Tuoi Tre (Youth) newspaper that the number of tourists booking tours to Russia during the World Cup is some 20 percent higher than normal figure.
“Fiditour had stopped receiving booking for this package since late April to be able to complete visa procedures and services registration during this peak time,” Thu said.
Travel combined with watching football
The 2018 World Cup travel packages will allow customers to spend from seven to 12 days in Russia, and visit the football tournament’s host venues, including Saint Petersburg, Moscow and Uglich town in Yaroslavl Province.
As the World Cup takes place in summer, tourists will also have chance to experience White Nights Festivals, a kind of all-night arts fest held in many cities in areas of high latitude during this time of the year.
The original festival, White Nights of St. Petersburg, is famous for spectacular fireworks and Scarlet Sails, a massive water show celebrating the end of school year.
However, it is harder for people in southern Vietnam face to enjoy such traveling and football watching packages, due to the lack of nonstop services from Ho Chi Minh City to Russia, according to Tran Van Long, director of Viet Media Travel Company.
“The tour operators had to mostly depend on the Russian partners, so it is hard to negotiate about the cost and price,” Long explained.
As prices for services and accommodation in Russia are forecast to increase by at least 30 percent during the course of the World Cup, Vietnamese travel companies also have to increase their tour prices.
Many Vietnamese travel companies had planned to take tourists to Russia to watch the World Cup, but eventually decided to not widely promote their packages due to their high prices.
The Russian market has traditionally been a familiar destination for tour operators, with packages launched on a monthly basis.
However, for such a special type of package with football watching among the itinerary, travel companies have to watch customer demand before deciding to launch a tour or not.
"The tour price to Russia originally does not include the cost of football tickets,” Long said.
“But we are ready to assist customers with ticket purchases if they want to watch the Cup.”
The 2018 FIFA World Cup will be the 21st FIFA World Cup, contested by the men's national teams of the member associations of FIFA. It is scheduled to take place in Russia from June 14 June to July 15.
The 2014 FIFA World Cup saw Germany crowned the champion in Brazil.

I kind of cold-called him—and I said, “Listen, I work in television.” And at that point I was freelancing for other companies as a producer and a shooter and an editor. I called Tony, and he was still working in a kitchen at the time, and I said, “Would you mind if me and my husband, Chris, came and shot a short demo and we try to sort of pitch the idea of A Cook’s Tour—meaning you traveling the world, kind of exploring the way other people eat—as a television series?” And he was like, “Yeah, sure. Whatever.” I don’t think he had any expectations at that point. Again, he hadn’t really traveled.
