ATLAS!! Why did he have to do this now? Carrot had plans. Scratch that--- she had a date. She spent the entire morning, crossing EVERYTHING off on her todo list: she made her bed, cleaned and sorted out her dirty laundry, and even showered and took the time to blow dry and straighten her long locks. The last duty was to wash the dirty dishes, especially since last night was spaghetti night. Never, was she this productive (in a timely manner) and was often prone to being uncooperative or a procrastinator. Seeing the pile of extra dirty dishes that her brother brought in while finishing up, made her nostril's flare and she became frustrated. It WASN'T a big deal, but Carrot was making it one anyways, as she had fifteen minutes of free time and would rather feel accomplished before leaving. But, honestly, how could he have known about her plans? She didn't tell anyone, and it was her fault for not alerting him about dish-duty sooner. "I'll do it. Just--- just throw them in the sink, the water should still be warm." She raised her hands up in defeat before turning away to grab another dish towel from the cupboard.

They were both grateful to have a super, duper understanding mother and that she didn't get mad often (at least, not at them), but no family was perfect. Atlas had a similar history of being a procrastinator too and while his gesture was nice, Carrot still returned and nudged him away-- knowing if it didn't get done now, it could get just as bad as the pile he presented her with. Roughly pushing up her sleeves again, she went back into routine, while avoiding eye contact. "While you're here, can you check my phone?" Considering it was playing music, it wasn't hard to find but she still tilted her chin in the direction of it on the counter, away from the water. Part of her was hoping that her 'friend' (whom she had been secretly seeing), wasn't going to leave her disappointed and be flaky after making plans. But it would't surprise her, their texts were getting less and less exciting.

what do you mean by calling theyre friendship queerplatonic?

Ok, some disclaimers - I am not an expert in LGQBTI terms and whatever I learn, it’s from research or other people in the community educating me. Secondly, I have no idea how the boys themselves will define their relationship and these are just my private views. It came about to me after I recently read from a different asked - and it just led me to this rabbit hole of researching through what the term queerplatonic means.

Essentially, it's define as "a close, but non-sexual, non-romantic relationship that is beyond what most would consider be friendship. It consists of emotional commitment and prioritisation that may usually be seen in a romantic relationship. People in queerplatonic relationship may be of any gender and sexuality" [The Little Book of LGBTQ+, An A–Z of Gender and Sexual Identities, Harriet Dyer, 2021, Publisher: Summerdale]

However, the relationship is fluid and really, the rules are set by the individuals in that "queerplatonic relationship." This means, sexual and romantic connections can exist but not necessarily develop or even dissipate over time. They set the boundaries and addressed the unique needs of what they want from the relationship.

It's marked by deep emotional connection, the type where you can't imagine living without your partner. Feels like soulmates (reminds you of anyone?) with unparalleled level of understanding and empathy beyond just close friendship

The World of IkePri — Obsidian's capital

[not really sure what this is exactly other than a way to keep all my thoughts organized and in one place. I talk a lot about the worldbuilding and settings of ikepri on discord with my friends, but it gets hard to keep track of everything, so I figured it was just best to make posts on Tumblr for it so I can keep it all under one tag]

Anyway, I was reading Chevalier's sequel route and got to chapter 3, when Chev and Emma go into town and tour around the capital of Obsidian. My immediate observation was the actual location of the town vs the fortress of the royal family:

Just like Rhodolite's capital, the capital town is located close to the royal residence; however, unlike Rhodolite's capital it is not located directly within the town itself. Rhodolite's royal castle is certainly on a higher elevation (given that one side of the grounds disappear into a cliff, and you can see down into the town from the castle in multiple places) but in general, the entire capital follows the layout of a medieval walled city.

A walled city was exactly that: the royal residence would be at the most defensible end of it, surrounded by the houses, guilds, businesses, and markets of the main town, all enclosed by high walls with gates, battlements, and watchtowers. Rhodolite's royal castle itself has separate walls and gates, but the town is still within accessible distance. Generally there would be only a single gate in and out of the royal castle, but multiple gates for the town so that carriages didn't have to circle back to go the other way once outside. The lands outside the town gates would be farmlands, orchards, and livestock pastures to feed the town's residents. Obsidian, on the other hand...

As seen in the background, Obsidian's capital is separate from the main royal residence (the fortress in the distance) and at a MUCH higher elevation than the surrounding town. Disadvantage of this design: the town is pretty much first in the line of fire if invading forces get deep into the country enough to reach the capital.

The advantage of this design, though? Absolutely nobody can surprise attack the Obsidian fortress because with that elevation they can survey the surrounding land for miles, not to mention all the turrets, parapets, and arrow slots that are actually on the fortress itself.

Now, for the second part of this post, the capital itself:

Like any city, past or present, Obsidian's capital is divided into differing districts– the industrial district to the west, and commercial district to the east. given it's size I would have expected it to be divided into 4 at the minimum, but I'll work with what I get. Chevalier mentions in the chapter that unlike the rural areas of Obsidian, the wealth disparity is far less noticeable in the city, but it's still there, and it directly ties to the two districts of the city. THE INDUSTRIAL DISTRICT – WEST

More likely than not, the industrial district going to be the poorer (or at the very least, the less wealthier) side of the city. Some of the guilds and businesses that would be there in the industrial district would be:

blacksmiths (along with farriers and other "rough" metalsmiths)

weapon smiths, armourers, and armories

hide tanneries and dyers

leatherworkers, saddlers, spurriers

lumber processors

stonemasons and carpenters

launderers and bath houses

meat processing butcheries

cheaper (or lesser-quality) apothecaries

brothels

cheaper inns and taverns

Although it is very unlikely that slums still exist (given how developed the capital is under Gilbert's rule) the houses in the western district would be more practical than luxurious. Farmers would live on their own lands outside the city, but the industry workers would have their houses on the west side as well.

THE COMMERCIAL DISTRICT:

By contrast, the commercial district in the east would certainly be on the more middle-class and wealthier side. The establishments are finer, the guilds are larger and more expansive, and the materials are of better quality. I'm thinking the commercial district would things more along the lines of–

silver/goldsmiths and jewelers

clothiers and fur merchants

tailors and seamstresses (poor people mostly made their own clothes unless in uniform)

shoemakers and hatmakers

bankers, moneylenders, tax collectors

merchant imports & exports

more expensive inns, finer rest establishments

doctor guilds and pharmacists

information guilds

If any nobles were staying within the city, they would likely stay at the royal residence, have their own houses in the east side, or they would be staying at one of the better quality inns. The majority of the markets, government administrations, and military quarters will be located near the center of town, where they are accessible to both districts. Any religious buildings will also be near the center, cause the church bells and the town criers need to be heard all across city.

That's kind of.... everything, I guess? I'll probably add more later if I remember anything important. This is mostly for myself, but if anyone wants to use it for reference (or talk to me about worldbuilding brainworms) feel free to do so

All Fun and Games (2023)

While I didn't enjoy this film, that doesn't mean you won't. No matter what I say, the people involved in this project did it: they actually made a movie. That's something to be applauded. With that established...

There are so many people out there whose dream is to make a movie. Though you might lower your expectations when you learn you’re about to watch a directorial debut, you're still excited. “I'm going to pay close attention so I can tell people years from now that I saw the mark of a great director coming.” When, even with lowered expectations, the movie you see isn’t good, it’s doubly disappointing. I don’t want to be mean to All Fun and Games directors Ari Costa and Eren Celeboglu. I also want to be fair to you by admitting this film is not worth seeing.

In Salem, Massachusetts, young Jonah (Benjamin Evan Ainsworth) finds a strange knife in an abandonned home. Its hilt is made of human bone and there’s an inscription on the blade. When his brother, Marcus (Asa Butterfield), reads the words out loud, he becomes possessed by an evil force. His sister, Billie (Natalia Dyer), her boyfriend, Pete (Kolton Stewart), best friend Sophie (Laurel Marsden) and uncle Bob (Erik Athavale) have no idea the “games” Marcus wants to play are deadly.

There are two major issues with “All Fun and Games”. The first is that it isn’t frightening. The idea of someone you love suddenly turning against you is ripe for potential but evil Marcus never uses his familial ties to his advantage. There’s little suspense, even in situations that should naturally generate it. The games of Hide-and-Seek and Tag, for example. You hold your breath for a moment, but no more than you would a normal game with friends. Some of that comes from the second major issue: the premise itself. The idea of games with deadly consequences isn’t enough anymore. Ready or Not did something different by supplementing the idea with comedy and social commentary. All Fun and Games doesn't do anything. This problem is amplified by the fact that some games work against the film itself. Playing Hide-and-Seek, for example, means the people who already want to get away from Marcus are allowed to do so. The villain searching for our heroes… continues searching for them. So what?

The premise gets increasingly convoluted as we learn the backstory behind the knife, particularly the way it leads the characters into playing a game of Tag. I think even the filmmakers knew that what they had was rather thin. The final running time is only 76 minutes.

All Fun and Games isn't devoid of merit and what’s good about it shows the people at its helm may have a promising career ahead of them. The Fletchers are dysfunctional, sometimes in a slightly comedic fashion but never to the point where they become over-the-top. The children bicker in a way that feels genuine considering the relationship between their parents and their age. Minus one sentence where Billie reminds Sophie that they’re best friends, everyone sounds real and the actors who’ve received the script by Costa, Celeboglu and their co-writer JJ Braider, deliver it convincingly. I’ll even go so far as to say that before people start getting possessed, you won’t understand why anyone would give the film a bad review.

The unimaginative premise and rushed conclusion (I had to double-check that I didn’t miss anything), combined with the missed potential and the lack of scares or tension means All Fun and Games is a movie you’ll forget right away. Usually, I say that it’s better to be memorable than good but that rule doesn't apply for directorial debuts. There’s potential here and although it isn’t entirely successful, some aspects of All Fun and Games make me think the next film by the people involved could be good. (June 30, 2024)

born  to  a  family  that  only  knew  crime,  gen  never  really  stood  a  chance.  trained  from  a  young  age  to  be  a  fighter,  she  had  mastered  most  skills  by  the  time  she  was  sixteen.  only  through  focus  and  improvement  was  she  given  the  ability  to  focus  on  her  favored  hobbies,  allowed  to  ride  her  prized  horses.

when  she  was  thirteen  her  family  moved  to  france,  they  owned  land  in  bordeaux  and  that  is  where  gen’s  love  of  wine  began.  days  spent  making  wine  alongside  her  grandmother,  nights  spent  learning  how  to  assemble  and  disassemble  weapons  blindfolded  with  her  grandfather.  it  was  a  trying  time,  but  there  had  never  been  a  secret  as  to  what  gen  was  being  raisd  to  do.

at  the  age  of  eighteen  she  was  gifted  to  the  table  and  moved  to  london.  there  she  was  introduced  to  even  more  of  the  underworld  and  gen  made  her  name  well  known.  she  was  a  honed  assassin,  she  was  bred  for  this.  failure  never  came  at  her  hand.

but  sometimes  accomplishments  don’t  amount  to  happiness,  and  the  honed  blade  of  the  table  found  herself  wanting  for  more.  she’d  fallen  in  love,  and  desired  to  have  children  away  from  the  underworld  and  not  have  to  worry  about  never  coming  back  from  a  job.  the  table  granted  her  freedom  with  a  window,  a  window  she  kept  secret  from  the  man  she  got  peace  with.  the  conditions  were  steep,  but  she  succeeded  and  earned  that  grace.

gen  went  off  to  become  a  lawyer,  and  quickly  went  to  work  making  a  life  for  the  family  she  wanted.  she  and  her  husband  were  an  unconventional  pair,  but  they  shared  a  deep  love  and  soon  enough  had  two  beautiful  children.  life  seemed  picturesque,  until  the  table  came  knocking.

now  gen  is  being  thrust  back  into  the  dark  world  she  left,  and  she’s  doing  her  best  to  hide  it  from  her  family.

Your character grew up with Ronnie in Darien, Connecticut, to the wealthy Henry and Josie Bishop, and had a very cushy up-bringing. Their parents were distant and best at showing affection through gifts, not attention. While your character was definitely spoiled, there was no doubt that the family youngest, Ronnie, was even moreso.

Perhaps your character's relationship with Ronnie is soured. Maybe they didn't approve of her attitude or the way she behaved, or maybe they just thought she was a brat. Honestly, your character could have just been indifferent, too focused on their own life to really care about forming relationships with their entitled family. Maybe your character and Ronnie actually got along rather well in their childhood

It's likely that no matter what, however, that your character and Ronnie (and a third sibling! whoever they may be) grew apart, and weren't really in contact for a while.

At the end of April, 2023, Ronnie went missing from her apartment in New York, and, a few days later, a crime scene was found with enough of her blood for investigators to rule that she'd been murdered. Your character's family mourned as much as they knew how.

However, something didn't seem quite right, and, somehow, your character found out that their sister might actually be alive out there somewhere. Which led them to Lunar Cove, the last safe place for supernaturals in the world, and the most likely place to find Ronnie, for better or for worse.

Andrew was born and raised in Seaport, Boston. As the eldest of four, a lot of the family responsibility fell on his shoulder, and he accepted it all with open arms. He was raised in what you might call a perfect environment. Despite the expectations and rules placed on him and his siblings by their parents, they had also showered their kids with love and luxury and privilege. They taught them that even though they lived a good life, it didn't mean that they didn't have to work hard.

Drew excelled in school, as expected. He balanced his time between his studies, extracurriculars (he was part of the race and track team), and his social life, so he was often busy, and he rarely had free time.

He was expected to take over the family business and become the owner of the business consulting firm his father owned, except his younger sibling showed more interest in that, while Andrew wanted to buy and grow his own business, wanting some sort of independence.

After graduating from the University of Chicago with a degree in business administration, he went on to do his MBA in Dartmouth University, coming back to Boston to settle down and work, and starting investing in businesses and growing his network.

At twenty-seven, he met Eden Shepherd, quickly falling in love with her, realizing early on that she would be the woman he would spend the rest of his life with. They traveled the world together, and despite some explosive fights here and there, they made it work. After a long-term relationship, they got engaged. The day of the wedding started off as one of the best days of his life that rapidly turned into the worst, with Eden getting cold feet and running off, leaving him at the altar two years ago. His ego was already beyond wounded and his heart beyond broken that he knew that even though he tried to contact her a few times to understand, he had to let her go and and save himself, too.

With that, Drew threw himself into his work, using it as the primary source of distraction. He hasn't been in a relationship since, opting to casually hook up here and there whenever he was in need of company, and eventually Eden became a mere memory.

As a kid up to his teen years, his family vacationed in Nightrest during summers, and due to college and his busy lifestyle, he rarely visited again. Up until he met Eden, who had family there.

Drew's ambition often leads him to invest and buy out businesses here and there, hence when the murderer in Nightrest was caught and the town was proclaimed safe again, he decided to buy out the yacht club and revive it, which was once very lucrative, and once owned by his father before he sold it. It felt like a nice new project to work on and to expand his wealth. Hence, he moved there to focus on that.

PERSONALITY.

Drew is a polite, mature, and easy going guy. He's a conversationalist and does enjoy being out and about. He's very loyal and reliable, but stubborn and hard-headed, on the other hand. He's very set in his ways and it takes a while to change his mind. He's definitely an ambitious person and a workaholic, the type to throw himself into his work and lose himself for hours. However, he values his free time as well, and is the type to prioritize his own health and needs above all. He's the type to follow his head rather than his heart, something which was solidified after Eden left, and because of that, he enjoys hook ups and one-night stands rather trying to seriously date again (so he's kinda a whore :/ omg).
