Summary: Seventeen-year-olds Dwayne Hoover and Tyler Walker (or Ty as she’s affectionately known in the Hoover house) have been best friends since they were born. His mom and her mom are best friends too, so they had every chance to be together. They only have each other and are madly in love. However, the other person doesn’t know about their friend’s feelings. Will a chaos filled trip to California for his little sister’s beauty pageant allow these feelings to surface and let the childhood friends become more or will the the inseparable duo keep them bottled inside, not wanting to risk that cherished friendship that’s always been a little more?

Third Person POV
Frank and Dwayne are sitting in chairs in the hallway, with Tyler sitting on her boyfriend’s lap. Since her left arm is around his shoulder, she’s playing with his hair while his arms are wrapped tightly around her waist, her right hand resting on his laced fingers. Frank is looking at a newspaper that was sitting on the table between the two chairs.
He glances over at the couple before flipping the page. ‘The Surprise Best-Seller From America’s #1 Proust Scholar’ is the headline right above the picture of Larry Sugarman and his new book. He immediately closes the newspaper and tosses it on the table. He sighs to himself as he tries to relax in his chair.
Two girls around the age of six run past them, giggling in their poofy dresses causing Dwayne to look up at his girlfriend then his uncle. He gently pats Tyler’s hip before speaking.
“Let’s get outta here.”
She stands up from his lap and takes his hand, walking with him out of the area. After another little girl runs by him, Frank stands up and runs after his nephew and his girlfriend, not wanting to be in the hallway either. Together, the three of them walk out of the building and down to the beach that Richard brought up two days beforehand.
Holding hands, Tyler swings them softly, enjoying the breeze that is hitting her face. Dwayne continues to think about their future while enjoying his girlfriend’s soft hand in his rough calloused one. His heart speeds up everytime he thinks of her being his girlfriend. In their seventeen years of life, he’s always dreamed of her saying yes, but he never thought it would happen.
Sure, it was in his plan, hell it was the majority of his plan, but it never believed it would come true. Maybe she’s right. They’ll find a way for him to continue his dream, despite his colorblind-ness. Without realizing, Frank had detoured them on the long wooden dock that overlooks the water. Dwayne lets go of her hand and leans against the railing in front of him, his chin now resting on his laced fingers.
Tyler stands on one side of him with her head on his shoulder while Frank stands on the other, just staring into the water. Dwayne picks up his head from his hands and lays it on hers, relaxing for a moment. The trio is silent for a while until he speaks up.
“Sometimes, I wish I could just sleep the next year until we’re eighteen. Just skip all this crap. The rest of high school and everything. Just skip it.”
“You heard of Marcel Proust?” Frank asks, putting his hands on the railing.
“He’s the guy you teach.” He says, glancing at his uncle.
“Yeah. French writer. Total loser. Never had a real job. Unrequited love affairs. Gay. Spent twenty years writing a book almost no one reads.” He says, causing the couple to giggle. “But he was also probably the greatest writer since Shakespeare. Anyway! He gets down to the end of his life, he looks back and decides that all the years he suffered - those were the best years of his life. Because they made him who he was. The years he was happy? Total waste. Didn’t learn anything…” He glances at them with a smile. “So if you sleep for the next year, think of all the suffering you’d miss. High school? High school’s your prime suffering years. Hell, you’d miss the first year of being with Miss Walker over there. Do you really want to miss that?!”
Dwayne lifts his head up and looks down at her with a grin. She blushes and looks up at him, curiously.
“You’re right. I wouldn’t want to miss that.” He says, before kissing her forehead.
He wraps an arm around her waist and pulls her into his side before looking at the water again. A million thoughts running through his head before he looks at his uncle.
“You know what?” He says, causing Frank to look over as he pulls Tyler in closer. “Fuck beauty contests. It’s like life is one fucking beauty contest after another. School, then college, then work? Fuck that. And fuck the AirForce Academy. If I wanna fly, I’ll find a way to fly. You do what you love and fuck the rest.”
Frank looks at him, impressed by his small speech. Dwayne glances at him before looking down at Tyler.
“We’ll find a way for you to fly.” She whispers, looking up at him.
He smiles at her softly.
“We’ll find a way for me to fly.” He repeats, kissing her head again.
“You know…” Frank speaks up. “I’m glad you’re talking again, Dwayne. You’re not nearly as stupid as you look.”
Tyler laughs, digging her face into her boyfriend’s side as he smiles at his uncle. Frank laughs and pats his shoulder.
“I’ll leave you two alone for a few minutes.”
He turns around and starts walking back to the other end of the dock, enjoying the view. Tyler turns in her boyfriend’s arms and leans against the railing in front of him. A smile appears on her face as his arms let her go and rest on the railing on either side of her, his own smile widening.
“I haven’t heard your voice in six months. I almost forgot what you sounded like.” She states, looking into his eyes. “I missed it.”
“You know…That wasn’t the first thing that I wanted you to hear when the vow finally came to an end.” He says, watching her.
“What was it going to be?” She tilts her head slightly confused.
He licks his lips and sighs softly, looking deep into her eyes. “That I love you, which I do.”
Her eyes widens slightly. “You love me?”
“Yeah. When I wrote you that note yesterday, I didn’t want to seem weird for saying it too early, so I was going to save it for when I finally got into the AirForce. But then…” He pauses for a moment. “Well, you were there. And we practically haven’t left each other’s side in seventeen years. Kinda hard for me not to love everything about you.”
She blushes, a smile growing on her face. “You really wanted that to be the first thing I heard in a year?”
“Yeah. I’d thought it would be…romantic.” He shrugs slightly, nervous.
She stands straight off the railing and wraps her arms around his neck, forcing him to lean down slightly. Standing on her tiptoes, she presses her lips against his. Somewhat shocked, he kisses her back happily, resting his hands on her hips. Their mouths move in sync, still getting used to kissing each other - well kissing in general.
Needing air, they pull away and pant softly, looking into each other's eyes.
“I love you, too, Dwayne.” She whispers.
“Really?” He grins at her.
“I knew for sure I loved you when you made me this bracelet.” She answers, removing her arm from his neck to show him the leather on her wrist.
“You were the only one I thought of when I was told to make it.” He admits, blushing slightly.
“Well, I’m glad.” She leans up again, pressing her lips to his.
He squeezes her hips slightly, holding her close until they pull away once again.
“I love you.” He whispers, smiling softly.
“I love you, too.” She presses another quick kiss to his lips.
“Come on.” He pats her hip. “We should go back inside.”
“Fineee…” She playfully whines before taking his hand.
He chuckles and walks with her to the end of the dock where Frank is patiently waiting. As they walk across the beach, wanting to keep the mood upbeat, Tyler starts picking on her boyfriend.
“Frank, did you know that when Dwayne was eight…”
He immediately covers her mouth, shaking his head.
“Nope. Nope. I know what story you’re going to tell.”
“Come on, Dwayne. I want to hear this story!” Frank grins, looking over at the happy couple.
“Nope…”
Before he can finish his thought, Tyler maneuvers out of his arms and gently pushes Frank to the side away from him.
“Anyway! When he was eight, he got a piece of his airplane model…”
Dwayne grabs her around the waist and picks her up, gently throwing her over his shoulder.
“Put me down!” She laughs, holding onto his belt.
“No! You’re not telling him that story!” He shakes his head, a grin on his face as he walks.
“Frank! Can you hear me?!” She playfully yells out to the older man walking behind them.
“Yeah, Ty! I can hear you!” He calls out, cupping his mouth as he smiles, despite being only a few feet behind.
“Anyway! He got…”
“No!” Dwayne laughs, putting her down.
She crosses her arms and pouts, seeing that they’re in front of the hotel.
“You’re lucky we're back.” She grins as she walks into the building.
Frank looks over at his nephew, his smile never leaving his face.
“What happened when you were eight?”
Dwayne sighs and shakes his head. “I got a piece of the airplane motel stuck up my nose because I wanted to see if it would fit…”
His uncle bites his lip, trying not to laugh. “Is it still up there?”
“No.” He rolls his eyes, mumbling, “Tyler put some pepper under my nose. I sneezed and it shot across the room. It stuck to the wall…”
Frank starts laughing before covering his mouth to stop himself. Dwayne playfully glares at him, a small grin appearing before walking inside. He jumps slightly, shocked to see his girlfriend leaning against the wall beside the door.
“I knew you'd tell him.” She says before turning toward the staircase.
He gently smacks her butt causing her to squeal and look at him.
“Get upstairs.” He grins and walks around her.
Finally making it to the auditorium where Olive will be performing, the trio opens the door and steps inside. Their eyes widened at the younger girl, caked in makeup, dancing on stage in a sparkly gold cowgirl outfit. Almost immediately, they rush out of the room shocked by what they have seen. Frank leans against the wall while the couple are slightly disgusted.
How could parents let their kids do this or even encourage them? And, sorry to Olive, but there was no way they would pick her. She’s a normal seven year old girl. She’s got a little meat on her bones while all these girls barely have any fat on their BMI. Olive does this for fun. It seems like these girls do it for the competition.
They can’t let her go on. She can’t be judged for being who she is!
“We’re going backstage.” Tyler says, grabbing her boyfriend’s arm and walking in the direction she remembers Olive going.
“Right. See ya.”
As they walk, they pass a woman with a headset on who is escorting another little girl down the hallway.
“Are you authorized to be backstage?” She asks, looking up at Dwayne.
“No.” He states, not giving her a single glance as he holds his girlfriend’s hand.
All around them are little girls crying, whining or lolling about. All their mothers are over-dressed as if they were the ones competing on that stage. There is a little girl standing with her friend as they walk around a corner.
“Hey, where are the dressing rooms?” Dwayne asks her, never stopping their walk.
“Are you allowed to be here?” She raises an eyebrow.
“Just tell us where the dressing rooms are.” Tyler rolls her eyes.
The girl never answers so they keep walking until they see a sign. She pulls him in that direction, finally reaching their destination. He stands straighter, looking for his mom before gently tugging her toward them. Standing a few feet away from Olive, Sheryl and Richard are talking. They approach and Sheryl smiles at them.
“How you feeling?” She asks him.
“Better. Where’s Olive?”
“She’s there. What’s the matter?” She glances between her son and husband.
Tyler, knowing this is a family matter, walks over to Olive, who is wearing black pants, a white button down shirt with a black vest over it with a red tie, her gold sparkly converse on her feet. She kneels down next to her, rubbing her arm as she squats.
“Nervous?” She smiles.
“A little.” She admits, looking up at her, unofficially, adopted sister. “What if I’m not good enough?”
“Olive, you’ve been working so hard.” She moves a piece of long hair out of her face. “Grandpa taught you everything you know about this routine. We’re so proud of you for coming this far. It’s scary because all these girls have been doing this for years. But I…” She pauses, knowing she doesn’t want the young girl to be judged for the way she looks. “I believe in you as long as you believe in yourself. Do you?”
The young girl thinks to herself for a moment and nods, looking up at her again.
“Then I believe you can do this. Just promise me something?” Tyler grins at her.
“What?” She asks, innocently.
“When you become famous, you don’t forget me. Because I’ll always be your number one fan.” She smiles.
“Really?” Olive’s eyes light up.
“Always! Even if you decide you want to own a cow farm in the middle of nowhere. I’ll be cheering you on.” She giggles, causing the young girl to smile widely. “Here. Let me do something to your hair.”
She sits straighter as Tyler stands up from her kneeling position. She grabs the hairbrush and starts brushing the top of her hair back, being mindful of the athletic headband.
“Olive Hoover? Are you the family?” The lady with the headset from earlier calls out.
Tyler ignores her and puts Olive’s hair into a half updo, braiding the long hair falling from it. She grabs a hair tie just as Sheryl, Richard and Dwayne approach them. As she starts tying off the braid, Sheryl kneels down with a small smile.
“Thanks, Ty.” She then looks at her daughter. “Olive, it’s time. Okay?”
She nods slightly, letting Tyler finish her hair.
“We gotta go now.” The lady says, bouncing in her spot.
“Hold on. Olive, look at me.” Sheryl says, softly. “If you don’t want to do this, that’s okay. If you want to sit this one out, it’s totally fine by us. We’re proud of you anyway.”
The young girl thinks to herself for a moment, ignoring the lady with the headset as she tries to rush them. She then takes off her glasses and puts her top hat on. She stands up and looks up at Tyler who has a smile on her face. The older teenager puts her thumbs up, silently encouraging her.
“Thanks, Ty.” She smiles, silently informing her that her words helped her decision before taking the assistant's hand.
They begin to walk away and her family watches nervously. They watch as she gets smaller and smaller.
“Good luck, honey!” Sheryl calls out.
They rush out of the hallway and to the auditorium, where Frank is waiting outside. Wanting to make it to their seats to see the young girl, they run toward the door.
“Is she going on?” Frank asks, running up to them as Sheryl opens the door.
“She’s going on.” Dwayne says, following his family.
“Yeah.” Richard says at the exact same time as his stepson.
The five of them rush to their seats, just as the current contestant leaves the stage. Moving to their seats Dwayne, Tyler, Frank, Sheryl then Richard sit down in that order.
“You’ve been a patient audience tonight! We have one more contestant and then we’ll be crowning our winner! Please give a warm welcome to…” The host says, pulling out a cue card from his pocket. “Miss Olive Hoover!”
The audience starts clapping, but half of them don’t care so they’re half-assed. The young girl slowly steps into the spotlight, glancing around for her family. When she spots them, she looks at the host, waving him over.
“What’s wrong?” He whispers but she gently tilts the microphone to her mouth.
“I’d like to dedicate this to my Grandpa, who showed me these moves…” She trails off.
“Awe! That’s sweet! Is he here? Where’s your Grandpa right now?” He asks, holding the microphone out.
“In the trunk of our car.” She admits, causing the host to laugh nervously, not understanding.
The room is completely silent while the Hoover family glances around, hoping no one would question her statement.
“Okay…Well take it away, Olive!” The host says, rushing off the stage.
She turns away from the audience and waits for the music to start playing. Over the speakers, Super Freak by Rick James starts playing. Tyler’s eyes widen slightly as she glances at her boyfriend who is very confused. Olive starts dancing, putting her hands in the air. Just as the lyrics start, she begins to spank herself as she wiggles her butt.
Frank nods his head, laughing to himself in disbelief. They should have realized ahead of time that Grandpa was the one that taught her how to dance so it had to be some kind of outrageous routine. Olive turns around and tosses her hat toward the host before she starts walking toward the audience.
Almost immediately with the beat, she tears her pants off, revealing red shorts. Her family’s eyes widened, realizing what Grandpa had indeed taught her. He taught her to strip as her routine.
“Is she?” Tyler whispers to Dwayne as she watches.
“Yep…”
She glances around the audience and bites her lip at the only one enjoying this. Miss California is dancing to herself, smiling, excited for Olive’s dancing skills. They decide to just let Olive…be Olive. She’s having fun and she’s smiling up a storm. How can they take this away from her? Some girls get up and start walking out of the auditorium, angering Dwayne and Tyler.
This seven year old is having fun just being herself and they’re going to leave? What the hell? People start yelling insults at the young girl who continues to dance, confused.
“What are they doing?” Frank asks, angrily. “I’ll kill them.”
Wanting his niece to feel better, he stands up and begins to clap to the beat of the music. At this moment, Olive takes off her tie and rips off her shirt, revealing a black tank top, continuing her dance. Richard stands up and begins to clap with his brother-in-law, knowing his daughter is having fun. Sheryl stands up and starts clapping, following her husband’s involvement.
Tyler, smiling to herself, stands up and dances to herself, excited about the random turn that this trip had taken. Dwayne also leaves his seat, and starts throwing his fist in the air, dancing along as well. Embarrassed and angry, Ms. Jenkins stands up from the judges table and walks over to Richard and Sheryl.
“What is your daughter doing?”
Richard grins and continues to clap. “She’s kicking ass - is what she’s doing.”
Ms. Jenkins did not like his answer. She walks straight over to Kirby, who is manning the sound booth, dancing slightly.
“Turn it off!” She yells at him.
“What?”
“Turn the music off!”
“What?” He yells back, pretending not to hear her and turns the music up.
The audience is split. Some mothers and daughters are leaving, not wanting to watch the seven year old dance, while others like Miss California and a Biker are bobbing their heads, enjoying the show. Ms. Jenkins walks straight to the host and demands him to get off the stage.
“Hey! Don’t you touch her!” He yells before rushing to the stage.
Sheryl gasps and covers her mouth, moving toward the aisle. Frank and Dwayne, who gently pushed past his girlfriend, rush to each side of the stage to be there in case Richard gets overtaken. Richard leaps on the stage as the host tries to grab Olive’s arm. He jumps on his back and practically piggy-back rides him until they get to the side of the stage.
“Keep dancing, honey!” He calls out to his daughter who is slightly frightened.
She glances toward her mother and Tyler who are both standing in the aisle with smiles on their faces. She continues her routine, still nervous. Richard disentangles himself from the host and shrugs off stagehands, watching his daughter dance.
“Get your daughter off the stage now!” Ms. Jenkins snaps. “I will not have her ruin my show!”
He hesitates and nods, understanding where she’s coming from. He sighs and starts walking onto the stage, calling her name. Olive continues to dance but looks up at her father confused. He then glances toward the judge who is staring at him. Not wanting to hurt his daughter’s feelings, he grins to himself and puts his hands behind his head, flapping them.
He’s dancing! Tyler and Sheryl start laughing as they realize what’s going on. He’s not getting her off the stage! On his face is a large, defiant, fuck-you smile as he looks at Ms. Jenkins as he continues to dance with his daughter. Enjoying this new kind of Richard, Frank jumps onto the stage and starts dancing as well, smirking at the angry lady at the side of the stage.
Following his uncle’s lead, Dwayne jumps onto the stage. He looks at his girlfriend before putting his fists out and thrusting his hips, a serious yet funny look on his face.
Tyler and Sheryl laugh even harder at the sight before them as Kirby turns the music all the way up to ten. Her mother figure looks at her with a wide smile.
“Come on.”
“Me too?” Tyler raises an eyebrow, slightly confused.
“You’re family, aren’t you?” Sheryl grins.
She then grabs the teenager's arm before they both run to the stage, running straight toward Olive who is smiling widely at them. Together, the six of them dance to the music in random and embarrassing ways. Dwayne even grabs his girlfriend’s hand and twirls her around in a circle before dipping her, both laughing.
Suddenly the rest of the family, including Olive, hold hands, forming a circle around the couple, as they begin to jump around. Soon the music comes to an end and the family is laughing until they realize the room is almost completely silent. They look around, nervously until Miss California and Kirby, along with random audience members clap for their performance.
They giggle slightly before smiling as the biker that Richard talked with earlier that afternoon stands up.
“Yeah!!” He throws his hands up. “Alright!!!”
Turns out Ms. Jenkins called the police. The family are sitting outside the hotel office, embarrassed. Sheryl and Tyler are looking around the hallway while Richard, Frank and Dwayne are staring down at the floor. Olive is still in her costume, swinging her legs, still not understanding what happened. While they wait for the officer to talk to Ms. Jenkins, Tyler elbows Sheryl, capturing her attention.
The older woman looks down at her, raising an eyebrow. Tilting her head, Tyler gestures discreetly toward a box sitting on a table a few feet away. Inside are pageant materials - trophies, sashes, and tiaras. Both females smirk at one another, a plan forming in their minds. A few seconds later, the office door opens and the officer walks out, putting his hands on his hips.
“Okay, you’re out. On the condition that you never enter your daughter in a beauty pageant in the state of California again.” He glances between each family member. “Ever.”
Frank nods and looks toward his sister, “I think we can live with that…”
Sheryl shakes her head in disbelief but nods. “Alright.”
He lets them stand but turns away, not catching Tyler grabbing something from the box on the table. They all walk out to the bus, bags in their hands. Richard had fixed the door earlier than he called the funeral home so it’s attached to the car once again. He opens the trunk and everyone notices that Grandpa is gone, leaving only the hospital sheet.
“Olive…” Richard says, folding it up. “Grandpa would’ve been really proud of you.”
“Yeah! You were great!” Sheryl says, kissing her head.
“You were beyond great.” Frank continues, smiling.
“You were incredible.” Dwayne says, grinning as he helps put the bags in the trunk.
“You were the best one there!” Tyler says, kneeling in front of her. “Which is why…”
She pulls out the item she stole from the beauty pageant box. A tiara. Olive gasps loudly and covers her mouth. Richard, Frank and Dwayne are shocked by the item in her hand but Sheryl and Tyler are grinning up a storm, their plan complete.
“Ty! Where did you get that?” The seven year old asks, looking at her.
“I told you I believed in you as long as you believe in yourself. And you did so your mom and I decided to do something special for you, knowing you should have won.” She says, not telling her the truth that they stole it.
“Thank you!!” She throws her arms around the teenager’s neck, hugging her tight.
She laughs and hugs her, pressing a kiss against her temple.
“Come on, Miss Hoover…” Tyler says, putting the tiara on her head. “Your chariot awaits!”
Once again, they all are forced to push the bus since there is no hill. Richard climbs in first with Olive jumping in a second later, scooting to the window as she makes sure her tiara is on her head. Laughing, Sheryl runs and jumps in, always loving the adrenaline. As the bus rolls, they start approaching another toll booth where Ms. Jenkins is handing over her pass.
Frank jumps into the seat next to Olive without Dwayne's help. Tyler laughs and runs around the bus, grabbing onto her boyfriend’s uncle’s hands as he helps her into the bus. Just before they hit Ms. Jenkin’s car, Dwayne jumps in and Richard drives the bus around the toll building into the opposite toll gate bar, breaking it into pieces.
The family laughs at the look at the woman’s face as they drive by. They all calm down, still smiling at the day's events. Everything started off shitty with Grandpa passing away and them stealing his body but ended with the family finally coming together as one. Richard realized that his family is way more important than his stupid Nine Steps.
Frank realized that he does have someone who cares about him. His own family who he didn’t see for years. The young teenagers are finally together and are happily in love. Olive and Sheryl are almost the same, just happy that everything is amazing. On their ride to the next hotel, Richard glances in the rearview mirror to see Dwayne with his arm around Tyler’s shoulder as they look out the side window.
“Dwayne, Ty, I don’t want grandkids yet. So if you two are going to continue to sleep in the same bed, be careful.”
Their faces immediately turn beat red, blushing at his words, knowing they're not ready for that stage in their relationship yet.
“Richard!” Sheryl laughs. “They’re only been together for a day! Let them enjoy their relationship before you start talking about grandkids. Besides, Frank is going to be in the room!”
“He won’t always be there!” He laughs, glancing back at the kids who are hiding their faces in embarrassment but they’re still smiling.
“Wait!” Olive turns around to look at her brother and his girlfriend. “You’re dating?!”
Dwayne nods, grinning down at Tyler who looks up at him. He leans down and kisses her head, holding her close to him.
“Now, who wants ice cream?” Richard glances into the rearview mirror.
The next day, the Hoover family are home, relaxing after their adventure. Frank is in the living room with Olive, helping her come up with a different routine she could do for a pageant. Sheryl is helping Richard find an actual job so he can stop all these ‘get rich quick’ scams. Tyler and Dwayne are in his bedroom - the door wide open - as they read together.
He’s up leaning against the headboard, reading a book that his girlfriend had on the windowsill. Tyler is laying between his legs with her head against his chest, reading her own book. His fingers are running through her hair as he looks away from his book. He grins to himself, happy that Frank helped him gain the courage to ask her out.
“I love you.” He whispers, watching her.
She looks up, a smile appearing on her face. “I love you too, Dwayne.”
He leans down and kisses her forehead, holding her close to him as he looks back at his book, content with his life now.

BY THE SEA
⛧ when you and dwayne leave the dreadful beauty pageant to get some fresh air some things spill out, more than intended for the day.
- no warnings!! maybe mild cursing
(dwayne x fem! reader)
as you and dwayne flop on the worn-out chairs in the random room you two stumbled in you sighed.
this whole roadtrip that dwayne basically begged you to go on was chaotic to say the least. his grandpa passed away, he found out he couldn’t fly jets, that damn horn on the car wouldn’t shut up, but you still were there for dwayne.
you really liked dwayne. it was a miracle that he actually allowed you to talk to him and become somewhat apart of his life. he didn’t let anyone do that. you had to admit you have a crush on him. but you knew he didn’t like you, most definitely not.
you snapped out of your hazy thoughts as two little girls ran across the hall. giggling in puffy skirts, tons of makeup they didn’t need, and reeking of fake spray tan mixed with strong fruity perfume.
you had already had enough of that shit after seeing a room full of girls who looked like that. as you were about to sit up and ask dwayne to leave he spoke for you
“let’s get out of here.”
“yes please. my head hurts from all the colors.”
-🦇
you two ended up on the pier, watching as the waves clashed with each other and people screaming with joy. you smiled to yourself.
you took a glance at dwayne, knowing that it was stupid because if you looked you wouldn’t be able to pry your eyes away.
you looked at his dyed jet black hair flowing in the wind, his shirt going in all different directions as he leaned up against the wood.
he finally looked up at you, feeling the pair of admiring eyes on him.
“what?” he said with a grin
“nothing.. im sorry for everything that happened today. it’s been fucking crazy.”
“it’s okay really. im sorry for making you come with me. if i knew it was gonna be this bad i wouldn’t have even thought you should’ve came.”
“no it’s okay! im happy i came. im happy i was able to comfort you..” you said taking a risk with this response.
dwayne’s face slightly heated up at this comment, even if the winds made it as cold as ever.
“i have a question though..why did you ask for me to come?”
dwayne’s face heated up even more. he thought it was obvious why he asked for you to come, why he said if you came he would go. dwayne was head over heels for you. you both had the same music taste, sense of humor, style, and he thought you were stunning. the way you tried so hard to adjust to him and his calmer life style made him even more in love.
he honestly didn’t know whether to hide his admiration by making a quick white lie..or to truly show his feelings.
dwayne stared down at the ocean with one thing on his mind ‘fuck it’.
now dwayne would never have this type of confidence, but some random talk with his uncle frank about how you only live once, and to do whatever you want and fuck the rest, got him to change his thinking
“i thought it would be obvious.” he said trying to make it subtle.
“what do you mean?” you said confused.
“i like you.”
it was silent..the wind blowing across the sea becoming louder and louder as dwayne looked and read your face.
nothing…
but then..a shy smile. he didn’t even realize he was holding his breath until he let out a deep sigh.
“really?”
“yeah..i’ve liked you for a while ya know..”
you smiled even harder at him, more red and pink tints filling your cheeks. he was trying hard to not smile but couldn’t help it.
“youre so cute” you said focusing on his eyes.
he looked down, embarrassed by how hot his face was.
you slowly crept over to him, closing the distance between you two. you reached for his hand on the railing and held his pinky with your own, not wanting to move too quickly.
he picked himself up off the railing looking at you for a moment and back to the ocean
that’s when he felt a pair of lips softly kiss his cheeks, the gloss in which covered your lips definitely staining it. he looked down at you, a grin on your face.
“you ready to go inside?” you said now taking his hand in yours.
>🎱🐼📖

summary: upon returning from his chaotic journey, Dwayne has something to say to you
warnings: use of the translator, and nothing else (I think)
request here

your friendship with Dwayne got off to a very, strange beginning.
The family wanted a change of scenery. wanting to be in a quieter and different place, according to your mother's words.
what better place than boring and faraway Albuquerque.
After a little more than a day and a half of travel, you felt like your butt was crushed against the seat. You were only about 8 years old at the time, and radio music was starting to bore you too much. your voice was heard throughout the trip, and your older brother was already fed up.
When you got home you got out of the car with excitement, wanting to see everything.
When the house was tidied up, his doorbell rang. Your eyes flashed with joy and before anyone else could go to open it, you rushed to the door quickly.
When you opened it, you could see a blonde woman next to a brown-haired boy next to her. She was holding a box, which you could tell from its smell that it was some dessert. You gave both of them a little smile when your mother came through the door "Oh, sorry, this girl is very elusive. I'm Gia, we just moved into the neighborhood today." Your mom gave a kind smile to the woman at the door. "Hi, I'm Sheryl, and this one here is my son, Dwayne. We saw that there were new neighbors and we wanted to get to know them a little. oh! and this is a small gift from our family."
The conversation went on smoothly, but your mind focused on the boy in front of you. His bored eyes caught your eye, he looked like he didn't want to be there. her brown hair fell over her forehead, covering her eyes a little.
He looked completely disinterested, and you liked that.
Your family said that you had the ability to talk to even a leaf from a tree. You were oblivious to any disinterest, as long as it was a living being and listened to you, you would talk until your throat hurt. For you, in front of you was your next best friend.
To Dwayne, you looked completely ridiculous.
For the next few months you talked to the child every day. without fault or pauses.
His parents thought it would be good for both of them to go to school together, so every morning your brother and Dwayne had to listen to your morning talks until school.
At first he hated that. To him you were just a silly girl who always talked about nonsense. All I wanted was to shut you up or cut your tongue out (even if I thought that wouldn't stop you from talking).
but in time he got used to it, much to his bad luck.
both grew up together. Her little sister named Olive was born. both were in the same classroom. and the two became best friends.
The rapid and growing adaptation they had with each other was very beautiful.
He was there when the theater caught your eye and you auditioned for a role. You were with him when the philosopher with a name that is difficult to pronounce caught his attention. He was there when you appeared in your first play. And you supported him when he decided that his dream would be to be a pilot in the air force.
The afternoons under the tree in the park were the most awaited when the weekend arrived. Your heads were burning with heat, but you were happy like that.
Adolescence gave them both a growth spurt. Dwayne grew up, and he was no longer the silly brown-haired kid. Now he was the goofy teenager with fake black hair.
Despite the quiet and unfriendly attitude that Dwayne managed to get, you did not separate from him.
This did not affect their friendship so much since he had always been the quiet one of the duo. You spoke and he listened, as simple as that. That's how they had always worked and it didn't bother either of them.
His activities went from being in the park sweaty, to being in Dwayne's room or yours doing nothing.
They loved doing that. just lie on your bed and listen to music. Sometimes they would start putting together puzzles, and they could go on and on for hours doing that without getting tired.
Dwayne loved being like that with you. Even though he didn't admit it, he loved you very much and at the end of the day you were his best friend.
Sometimes he was afraid that you would leave his side. Since having friends wasn't his forte, he only had you. and although you have shown him that this is impossible for it to happen, the thought reappears when he is alone.
There were days when he woke up distressed. afraid that you would no longer talk to him that day, or accompany him home back to school.
Because even though Dwayne always had that stoic expression, his heart was as sensitive as that of a small puppy.
At school you had several suitors, boys who continually approached him to make fun of him, or to tell him how hot his friend was. You didn't like those tasteless jokes at all and each time you sent them all down a tube. But in your Dwayne mind those thoughts kept repeating, what would happen if one day she decided to go with one of those idiots?
The unexpected journey to Olive's pageant was fun for him, even if he never says it out loud.
This crazy trip opened Dwayne's eyes, a little.
The absence of your voice, your jokes, and your warmth hurt him. Realizing that your emptiness felt so much scared him more than he thought, and that was interesting to him.
He had never taken the time to think about what it would feel like to one day without you. You practically spent most of the day together, either in your homes or hanging out elsewhere. Your presence was always there, with your laughter and your bad jokes. Even though Dwayne's vow of silence stage had already started more than 3 months ago, you were still talking to him as always.
you didn't judge him or anything, you just stayed by his side.
During his journey he thought of you, wondering what you might be doing now, who you would spend your day with, who you would tell your jokes to, who would hear your laughter.
He felt envious of that person, knowing that he could be that person.
What Dwayne didn't know is that you were in a pretty similar situation. thinking about him, and missing him.
You knew that Dwayne wasn't so excited to go on that trip. In general, he did not like to travel anywhere, least of all with his family. to everyone it was as evident as it was ever in his bubble, which consisted of his room.
his room was so him. Simple but at the same time Dwayne screamed everywhere, exactly like him. A perfect combination of clutter and order, dark colors contrasting with the warmth of its walls, and multiple drawings pasted on the wall. every corner of his room represented him.
To you, Dwayne was the best friend you could ever have. You loved how he was, so sincere when it came to giving your opinion, so comforting when it came to venting to him, and he laughed at all your jokes, even if they weren't good. His vow of silence didn't surprise you, he talked a lot about that old man before that, and even if you didn't know who that man was, you loved him when he started talking about him. It was so interesting to see how his voice got excited, his eyes shone under his hair and when he started talking too much he would always ask you the same thing "I've bored you, right?" to which your response was always "of course not Dwayne, it's tender to see how you talk about that old man".
Their relationship felt like an evolution for both of them. A kind of nice adjustment that they both didn't even notice. They had a dynamic that few understood, that was so natural and beyond what was spoken. They didn't need to talk to know what was happening with the other, just a couple of sincere glances were enough for the other to feel comforted.
Your thoughts of him were quickly passing through your mind. questioning what things your friend was going through at that moment, hoping it was something interesting or fun.
During the hours Dwayne spent in that hot van, he questioned a lot.
You've always been the opposite of him. Being more outgoing but shy at the same time, having that great passion for acting, watching you perform for him was a delight for his eyes. your laughter, always occupying the space that the two of you shared. With you I didn't have a moment when he felt different or weird, he didn't feel like the quiet guy in the class with whom no one wanted to make a group.
By your side Dwayne felt like a chosen one. like a four-leaf clover among the others.
There were certain times when he felt like someone different from you. moments that felt like selfish, envying your skills and personality. feeling like a companion by your side, something that doesn't have skills that stand out.
For Dwayne you were the definition of passion, each of the things you did you did with a result, and even if you didn't have any reward for such a thing, your aptitude always overflowed with passion. It was something he admired about you, you were so natural in what you did and every activity you did made it special. It didn't matter if it was just kicking rocks in the street, or dancing in her room listening to the radio. every everyday thing you made surprising to him.
out the window he saw many trees and carts, imagining in all the peculiar things you would say to him if you were by his side, turning something as mundane as the carts passing over the bridge, into a beautiful reflection.
Thoughts about you soon became stressful for him, why was he thinking about you so much all of a sudden? Dwayne wondered in his mind. mentally scolding himself about his thoughts and feeling stupid for doing so. He had never had that sequence of questions before with any girl or person, or at least that his mind had been so interested in asking the dumbest questions about the other person.
That trip for Dwayne was like the blink of an eye. Somehow the moments he spent inside that truck will be forever marked in him, even the small "talk" he shared with his grandfather. At that moment Dwayne wanted to give himself a mental slap for thinking of you that way, he felt that he was disrespecting your body even though he didn't even do something to you.
All these things came to light the moment they arrived at the long-awaited contest.
the moment he and his uncle exchanged a few words at a nearby pier. Dwayne found himself thinking about you, how you would have run down the pier to see the sea, make fun of how his hair moved, and say something stupid about the contest.
To everyone else, Dwayne's different behavior hadn't been something to announce, because well, it was Dwayne and he was quiet and thoughtful by nature. This behavior went unnoticed by everyone, except for his uncle Frank who, having a moment alone with him, did not miss the opportunity to ask him why he had looked so thoughtful all trip.
Frank didn't see Dwayne often, but it was clear that he'd been eating his head all day. So he went direct, trying to understand his nephew's situation a little more.
"What's his name?" Frank asked Dwayne, looking out to sea. "What?" replied Dwayne. "What's his name? I imagine that what you've been thinking about all day has a name, or am I wrong?" his uncle asked again.
Dwayne had gone blank. He didn't think it had looked so obvious and just imagining that his whole family knew he had been thinking about someone the whole trip made him feel anxious. It wasn't like he was ashamed of you, quite the opposite. But for a person so close to him to realize something like that made him feel like a typical idiot in love that appears in romantic movies.
"She's my friend, my best friend really," he said to his uncle, looking down at the ground in embarrassment to look him in the face. "Oh, that's it, difficult," Frank replied, "you love her, don't you? You can tell in the way your eyes shine, I'm not very good at love, because, well, you know. but if you want to talk to me about that person, no problem," his uncle told him in a calm tone, trying to make him feel comfortable.
"I don't know what I'm feeling right now. We've always been friends, and she's always been by my side to support me and make me feel safe with her, that I feel like no one else can make me feel that way, you know?. She's so dazzling, like a shooting star that I had the opportunity to catch, and all this makes me feel stupid next to her, as if I wasn't special enough to deserve her friendship, let alone something else," Dwayne spoke, letting everything out suddenly. He didn't wait for answers, he just wanted to vent to someone for once.
His uncle, who had been listening to him all that time, spoke, after meditating on the words.
"There are times when we think we don't deserve love from people we love, and we make ourselves feel less special to them, but something I learned in my life is that you don't have to feel less than any other son of a bitch. Don't spend your teenage moments thinking that you're not special, because I assure you, you're more special than half as special as all those kids in your town, and I'm sure she thinks that too" Frank said looking at him. The strong breeze crashing in his hair made everything more dramatic for Dwayne.
Thoughts kept swirling around the teenager's head. One part of him said 'do you really think she thinks that way about you?' while the other part said 'obviously she thinks that way about you, you fool, how have you not noticed?'. In Dwayne's mind you could be friends with anyone, but you were his friend, you were by his side.
after having an equally chaotic return home, they were finally in Albuquerque, again.
He had missed you, too much to say out loud. And by the time you heard his voice again, you couldn't have been happier.
You felt a little sad about the news she had been given, but you couldn't help but feel happy to hear her beautiful voice again. That day they had a great talk about everything that had happened on their trip, you consoled him for his grandfather, who although you did not like him at all was a very charismatic old man. Each anecdote was funnier than the last, and your stomach ached after he finished telling everything.
They felt like they had spent an eternity apart, even though it had only been about three days.
When the anecdotes were over, a silence enveloped them both, something unspoken was felt in the air. something that made them feel like they wanted to say something, like they'd realized something.
They both looked at each other, their eyes uncertain and in a fight over who was making the first move. Dwayne opened his mouth, searching for the words stuck in his throat. While your mind was a whirlwind of words and questions, you wanted to say so much in such a short time but were unable to formulate a sentence.
Dwayne felt brave for once in his life, he wanted to take the first step with you wanting not to feel useless in this.
"I love you," he whispered. Your eyes opened, and the word left you surprised. He had never told you that. "Like something else," he whispered again after a short silence.
You could feel the storm in your head calm down, you suddenly felt silly, like you didn't know what to say. A shy smile was drawn on your face, and your eyes shone with happiness. For Dwayne this was a great sign, although the silence continued to eat away at him inside. "I love you too," you said with a smile, which he could swear was the most beautiful smile he's ever seen.
Your hands were eager to move, and you could feel them sweating you. His arms brushed for a second and you swore you felt a spark inside you.
You slid your hand shyly toward his, gently brushing Dwayne's fingers. He felt the touch and turned his hand over, and in an unexpected movement he joined his hands.
Both could feel their faces slowly heating up. Little shy smiles landed on their faces, as if they were getting into some mischief together.
his thumbs gently caressed his hands, a gesture so silly for the others but so intimate for both.
Dwayne suggested going home, the sun was already setting and during the hike he couldn't help but appreciate you. As your hair moved gently through the afternoon breeze, your eyes as beautiful as ever were illuminated by the sun. In his eyes you seemed sent by the very same sky, so ethereal and angelic.
Their houses appeared in his field of vision, and as he entered Dwayne's house music could be heard coming from Olive's room. His uncle was in the living room watching television, and he greeted them both with a brief 'hello', you could notice the look he gave to his hands, seeing how a tender smile was drawn on one face. None of his parents had arrived, although you already knew that. They both walked towards his room, still with their hands folded.
you still felt nervous, and your palm felt hot against his. As we entered his room he led you to the bed, and they sat shoulder to shoulder. You saw his hands together resting in the space between his legs, you thought about whether this was real. You turned to see her face, red and bright as a tomato and you couldn't hold back the giggle that came out.
"You look very cute," you say while giving him a small smile. Your hand reaches for a strand that falls over his eyes, and a smile appears on Dwayne's face. "You too," he replied, while giving you a loving look. His eyes scanned your face, going from the curve of your eyebrows to the way your hair contours your face. You noticed how he looked at you, and you could feel how your face got hot "what's wrong? Why are you looking at me like this?" you told him, as you ran your hands over your cheeks in shame. "You look very beautiful, that's all," he told you.
The silence appeared again, but this time it was not an uncomfortable one, it was quite the opposite. They felt comfortable next to each other, and an idea that you had in your head for a long time passed through your head.
you turned to look at him, admiring his profile; the little bridge on her nose, how her hair fell over her eyes covering her forehead, and how her lips looked so pink and soft to kiss.
and the next second you were doing it, you felt his lips; as soft as you had imagined them.
It was brief, but tender. He barely had time to react when you had already separated from him "Forgive me, I didn't mean to do it, I just let myself go. You looked so cute and just... forget it" you began to ramble between words.
You didn't have time to say more when Dwayne put his lips on yours again, this time digging deeper. Your hands went to her hair, tangling your fingers in it. His hands landed on your waist, barely touching you. You could feel how his face warmed up little by little, and how his hands were getting more confident, gently caressing your waist.
When they separated, they could see their faces, red and shy. His loving gaze examined you, admiring how your eyelashes fluttered after separating, and how a shy smile formed on your face.
Dwayne knew this wasn't the right way to do it, but he couldn't resist saying it anymore "Do you want to be my girlfriend?" Dwayne said in a whisper you could barely hear. Your heart raced, and your breath was cut off for a second. His eyes examined your face, trying to find any signs of denial or acceptance in it, nervous about your response.
"Oh God, I've been waiting for that for a long time, of course I do" and with that you sealed her lips in a kiss again.
demonstrating all their emotions through it. His movements were more confident, his hands gently wrapped around your waist, your hands on his cheeks, bringing him closer to you. Dwayne's back touched the soft bed, as you positioned yourself on top of him. The kiss was over but they could still feel their hearts beating rapidly, their tangled legs and smiles in love were the result of this.
You ran your hands over her features, admiring each one of them and smiling as she felt how her cheeks were still warm. "I'll never get tired of saying it, you're so beautiful" you told him, while running a hand over his cheekbones. "Oh, shut up" he told you, as he gently pushed you and you fell next to him on the bed. You rest your elbow on the bed, watching with amusement the "what? It's totally true what I'm saying, you're so beautiful, and handsome, and mysterious," you say, as you run your fingers over his nose.
He looked at you, while an embarrassed smile appeared on his face "Is being mysterious a good thing or a bad thing?" he asks, looking at you with a confused look. his hands on your waist kept making imaginary figures on your skin "well, for me yes. that black hair looks very mysterious," you reply with a chuckle. "If so, for me you also look very mysterious. Surely that hair has many secrets to tell" he told you, while giving you one of the most tender smiles you had ever seen.
The rest of the afternoon was spent together. with their legs tangled and their hands looking for affection.
They were another pair of teenagers in love, giving each other silly looks and nervous smiles, and anyone who walked through the door would swear they were a couple.
The best thing about it is that Dwayne had the honor of saying that was true.
I should start making shorter fics, but I can't. I hope the person who asked for it likes it haha

HIHI okay, i was wondering if i could request a matchup? i’m like 5’7, a goth, and plus sized. :)
i love, love video games and talking abt so many interests at once, i have a sweet tooth, and i really enjoy drawing. i tend to overshare about my interests and end up ranting about them for hours on end lmao, and umm yeah that’s about it lol
i match you with: dwayne hoover!
your style would absolutely be what caught his interest first
would be the type to sit and draw with you while you listen to music together
i imagine he's either really good at drawing or really bad
if he's good at it, he'd 110% just draw you for "studies" and give them to you (most likely with a little note)
if he's bad at it, he would draw stick figures holding hands and label them as you and him <3
can't really handle sweets (they hurt his teeth), but would absolutely bring you little candies and treats
he's very much a listener, so he doesn't mind if you overshare or talk a lot
would definitely be ass at video games i'm not gonna lie
BUT if it's something you're interested in, he'll participate because, at the end of the day, it's worth it to see you laugh and smile
i hope you liked this <3

YOU──Dwayne Hoover

ᶜᵒˡˡᵃᵍᵉ ᵗʰᶦⁿᵍʸ ᶠʳᵒᵐ ᴾᶦⁿᵗᵉʳᵉˢᵗ
Summary─ In which, Dwayne's insanely in love with you. Kinda based off of the song You by Radiohead
Warnings─ Mentions of a sensory overload?? this is really just fluff. Shitty ending by the way, I'm sorry. Gn!reader. Not edited or proofread.
(a/n) This is my first work on this account + my first write for Dwayne (and beware, I haven't written in foreverrrr ok? cut me some slack pls) fkddj. Feel free to send me Dwayne requests ilyyy also comments + reblogs are really appreciated!!
──────────
Dwayne thinks he might pass out. It wasn't from the 90 degree weather, or the absolute sensory overload he might have from the noise at the park, but it was from you.
You looked ethereal. You were engrossed in the book you were reading, caressing the back of Dwayne's hand with your thumb, while he was laying in your lap. Every once in a while, you would lean down to Dwayne and give him a kiss (as well as catch him staring at you, he felt like a creep, but you found it cute) which made his cheeks turn more red than they were because of the heat.
He never thought that someone as beautiful as you would like him. Him. The absolute dweeb who would re-read nietzsche everyday. Dwayne was absolutely infatuated with you. Everything you did was amazing. He got butterflies anytime he thought about you.
"Dwayne?? Are you okay??" He hears your sweet voice say. He never noticed you put your book down, so he must have been zoning out.
He looks at you, and sees the look of concern on your face.
You speak up again before Dwayne can get a chance to reply to you.
"We can leave if you want, I know how you get when it's hot out and there's too much noise."
Dwayne squeezes your hand, "I'm okay for a little bit longer, whatever makes you happy." He says in a soft tone.
You smile at him, you let go of his hand and start playing with his hair.
"Just let me know right when you want to leave okay? I want you to be comfortable."
"I will."
"promise?" You pause for a second while playing with his hair, then continue.
"I promise."
It felt like it was just you and him now. All of the kids screaming, and the dogs barking, slowly went away. You put him at ease, no matter what. Rain or shine, you could make him feel better. All he could ever think about was You. You, you, you. During dinner, school, before he went to bed. You. Dwayne's thoughts become slower, and he could feel him self falling asleep in your lap. And before he falls asleep, he hears you faintly say I love you. He can feel his heart pounding as his brain slowly shuts out the world. God, he was so in love.

hi!! i was wondering if you could write some reader x dwayne hoover <3 i'd love it if they were making some project for school and they start to realize they have a ton of stuff in common, and they're both like: i'm in love
thank you so much ily
Dwayne Hoover x Reader
A/N: i did some headcanons for this one.... this was so sweet, i hope you enjoy them ♡
it was a history assignment, build a diorama about an important invention of the 20th century
you were his partner
Dwayne was in a couple of your classes, he didn't speak but you knew he got good grades
"What do you want to do the project on?" you asked as you approached him in the hallway
Dwayne stood at his locker, pointing to The Wright Brothers plane he had taped on the inside
"Oh," you nodded and tilted your head to look up at him, "uh, yeah! We can do that," you nervously chuckled
he took out his pad of paper and scribbled: library?
you noticed his poor handwriting but smiled at him, "Sure. I'll see you after school."
the library was the first place you saw him in a different light
you found him at a lone table reading a philosophy book
and you found it really...hot?
your face felt instantly warm when his soft eyes looked up at you
Dwayne's lips formed a small smile and motioned you over
he definitely noticed how nervous you got around him but he wasn't sure if you liked him or hated him
you caught his eyes from the other side of the shelf as you looked for books
he was the first one to look away
"Cute," you thought.
then you had a whole moment, did you like Dwayne? no, no. You didn't
you notice that he liked similar books to you
and he knew a lot about planes
he wrote you paragraphs about them
he pulled out snacks from his backpack, asking you if you wanted one
he had all your favorites
Dwayne noticed you differently when you two were in his room building the diorama, you were taking a break and taking a look at his cd collection
"I have most of these," you giggled
he sent you a look that read "you do?"
you nodded and went on and on about the music and how good it was
his heart started to pound
his fingers nervously twitched
oh fuck, he thought as it hit him
over the week you hung out and it wasn't just for the project
he liked spending time with you, and he hated everyone
he got easily flustered when you said nice things about him
you kept all the little notes he passed you in class
Dwayne kept the glue gun you left at his place...just so he could have an excuse to see you again after the project's over
you both had the moment: "Oh damn, I like this person more than a friend" when you sat your project up at the front of the class
he looked down at you and nudged your shoulder
you looked up
and when your eyes met, you just knew
he had a crimson blush dusted on his pale
and you had a lovesick smile
the world faded into the background and it was just the two of you
Dwayne nudged you again, motioning to his hands
he had scribbled a note: would you like to go out with me?

Immediate Response
Request: Dwayne tells reader I love you and their immediate response is to say something mean like fuck off. It’s not on purpose it just slips out 🤭 thank you @sapphicandserendipityy for the idea!!
Peering at the contents in your basket you made a mental note of all the items you have selected so far; beef jerky, candy, headband, a toy plane. Something was missing? Pulling out your shopping list you scanned the items until you found it, notepads. How could you forget?!
Two months had passed since Dwayne began his vow of silence. He mentioned something about self-restraint and dedication? In the beginning you thought he would only last a week or two.
But here you were two months later. Dwayne’s dedication and self-restraint was growing by the day. The sound of his voice was one of your favorite sounds, and you missed it dearly, but understood that it was something Dwayne needed to do.
Dwayne was focusing and working so hard to reach his dreams. You wanted to reward him for his efforts and motivate him to continue.
Your eyes widened as you entered the stationary aisle there was rows of notepads in different colors and designs. There were so many options. Reaching out you grabbed a yellow, black, and a pink one covered in red hearts. It was cute! Dwayne would hate it.
A giggle slipped out as you imagined his reaction. Or maybe if you were lucky he would suddenly get the hint that you lov- liked him...You really hoped he would like it.
Taking a deep breath you tried to calm the nerves. What was the worse that could happen? Dwayne doesn't like it? Dwayne doesn't like a lot of things it will be okay. He definitely wasn't going to say anything.
Raising a hand you pressed the doorbell. You could hear feet running through the house and a voice yell out “I got it” When the door opened you were met with Olive smiling up at you.
Before you could say hello she was yelling through the house “Dwayne! Y/N is here!” She stepped out of the way and waved you inside.
“Come on Y/N” Olive grabbed your free hand and led you through the house towards Dwayne's room “I don't know why he can’t hear me.”
Once you reached Dwayne's door Olive didn't even knock, she just threw the door open. You were met with Dwayne on his back lifting weights above his head, heat flooded to your cheeks, as you watched him. The muscles in his arm were still small but more toned and you could see the outline of musc-
“Dwayne did you not hear me?! I said Y/N is here” Olive’s voice broke your thoughts.
Dwayne let out a sigh as he placed the weight down and sat up. The corner of his lip turning up slightly as his eyes met yours. Walking over he grabbed your hand, it was sweaty and calloused, pulling you into his room. While simultaneously pushing Olive out and slamming the door in her face.
“Hey! You’re so rude” you giggled as Olive stomped down the hall. It was now just you and Dwayne facing each other with your hands intertwined. There wasn't much time to enjoy the contact as Dwayne dropped your hand heading towards his bed and sitting down patting the open spot next to him.
“So…you’re still not talking Hoover?” you teased. Dwayne responded with a roll of his eyes as he patted the spot next to him again. Finally you plopped down next to him and placed the gift bag in his lap. “Well good! Or else this would be awkward”
Dwayne looked between you and the bag with furrowed brows. “It’s a gift for you. It’s been over two months since you stopped talking and I thought you deserved something. I just know I couldn't last a day without talking!”
A full smile formed on his face as he smiled in agreement. “Hey” you gently pushed him “Don’t be rude I got you a gift. Now open it!”
Sitting up straight you watched in anticipation as Dwayne started pulling out the wrapping paper, giggling as he rolls it up and throws it at you playfully. He reached in without looking and pulled out the beef jerky, slightly nodding his head in approval.
“I got that because I know you like it and it has a lot of protein so it should be really good for building muscle and stuff” Dwayne listened to you with raise eyebrows and waited until you were done to pull out the next item.
Red was being pulled out of the bag and your mouth opened before you realized. “That’s a headband for when you work out so your hair’s not in your face and you don’t get too sweaty.” You felt the need to explain the reasoning for each item.
Dwayne pulled out the notepads looking through them. “Those are for…ya know” you giggled. He got to the pink notepad with hearts. He looked up at you with an eyebrow raised and titled head as if to say ‘Really?’
Secretly Dwayne loved it! It was cute and reminded him of you.
With each item Dwayne pulled out his heart beat faster and he became overwhelmed. It was all so simple but-
Everyone else had been harassing him to speak telling him there was no point and refusing to understand. But you…you have supported him the entire time with no complaint. You always supported, listened, cared, understood him. It seemed like you were always around so he took you for granted. But you were everything and he…
Dwayne's eyes widened in realization, hurriedly he opened the notepad and grabbed his pen, scribbling out the words. His hands shook as he stared down at the writing contemplating if he should show you. Glancing up he was met with your amused face “What is it Dwayne?”
Dwayne held the note up “I love you” was written across the page in messy letters.
A laugh left your lips as yo read the words “Oh fuck off Dwayne” His brows furrowed, placing the pen back on paper he underlined the words twice shoving the notebook in your face.
The smile on your lips slowly fading at the realization “Oh wait…you love me? You love me!” Dwayne rolled his eyes and tossed the notepad into you lap pointed at the words.
You held the notepad up pressing it against your chest as you took in the moment another laugh escaping your lips. “Well good Hoover because I love you too!”
Masterlist
This is my first time writing for Dwayne so I hope it was good and I hope you liked it 💛

Klitz x M/reader
Klitz isn't gay.. Especially not for his childhood friend. Right? Klitz x m/reader.
wordcount: 2500

warnings: blowjob, male on male, foreplay, grinding, drug mentions & dom reader.
It started when Klitz entered highschool and became apart of the Tripod,
"And then at the movies, we were high off our asses so we kept laughing, then we went back to mine and fell asleep on the couch." Klitz explained his weekend to his friends, 'we' was Klitz and You. His childhood friend.
"You were laughing at Saw?" Matthew asked, an eyebrow raised
"Who gives a shit about that," Eli who'd been listening from behind the two of them in the hall pushed his way in between them.
"Did you get any pussy?" Eli asked, Klitz elbowed him away. "Well no, because (Y/N) is-" Eli inturupted him. "Stop talking about your boring weekend then, if it doesn't end up with you getting laid with that (Y/N) chick!" He complained, quickly changing the subject.
Klitz tried to tell them, but when he let it slip the first time he said he'd correct them the next on his childhood friends gender, but he couldn't. Every time he stumbled up and couldn't mutter at word at the misgendering and misinterpreted relationship of the two.
"No! It wasn't funny-" Eli yelled, complaining about porn, or girls. Klitz didn't know, he'd try to block him out in favor for the ps2. They all sat in Eli's house, playing video games on the sofa.
Klitz reached into his pocket, pulling out a gray flip phone. "Hello?" He answered without viewing the contact. "(Y/N)!" He said standing up, his eyes widening. "What are you up to?" He walked into the kitchen, Eli and Matt's eyes lingering on his body surprised Klitz could talk to a (supposed) girl so smoothly.
"Your coming into town?" He says surprised, spilling the sprite Eli's mum had bought for the three. "Cool," he hummed bringing the cup back to the lounge and setting it down on the coffee table.
"Wanna stay with me?" Eli who was sipping on his beer (which he stole from his father,) spat it out in surprise, going into a coughing fit.
"Cool, bring some weed?" He asked sitting back down in the middle of Matthew and Eli. "See you next week!" He says, flipping his phone shut and unpausing Mario Cart.
After a second, Eli and Matthew died. He looked around him, seeing them staring at Klitz in disbelief. "You just invited a chick to your house?!" Eli asked in disbelief, "(Y/N)s not a-"
"Won't your parents get mad?" Matt asked. "They've known him since he was a baby." Klitz rolled his eyes.
"Can I film it?" Eli asked.
"What?"
"Can I film you two fucking?" Eli asked again, explaining more.
"No dude, that's weird." He stopped, blushing. "I'm not into that."
"Okay Mr cocky, you probably had a crush on them in middle school." Matt rolled his eyes,
"No!"
"Look at that face, you'd pump your fist to her?" Eli asked. Getting a weird look from Matt and Klitz. "Dude, too weird." Matt says.
"Okay but it was okay when Matthew said it!" Eli yelled
"He didn't made it sound like dirty talk!" Klitz argued, the conversation switching into a different topic.
~~
It was a week til (Y/N) was gonna come stay, Klitz learnt later he was coming to stay for the final year, in the middle of the second term not just for a week, but him and his parents didn't mind.
Klitz was nervous, to say the least. He'd tried to tell Eli and Matthew he wasn't in a relationship with his childhood best friend, who just happened to be a male. But everytime he'd try Eli would intruppted him, or Matt would come up with a zinger. Something always prevented him.
Deciding to call you, he sat up from his crisis and dialed his numbers on his shitty phone.
Ring.
Ring.
Ring.
"Hello?" Your voice spoke softly.
"Hey." Klitz smiled, leaning back into his bed. "Tim!" You smiled, facing your body away from your current friends group. "Whats up?" You asked.
He desperately wanted to tell you, but the fear you'd be disgusted, thinking he was gay. (Which he wasn't, not that there's anything wrong with being gay) He couldn't loose his best friend.
"Nothing," he muttered. "Just bored."
"I can't wait for you to come here." He curled up into himself. (Y/N) blushed, your long time crush on the nerd still stood strong, after the beginning of middle school you didn't know how to tell him, but Tim isn't gay, right?
"Me too, but I'll be there right after Saturday." It was Wednesday.
"Promise?" His small voice spoke. Your grin grew bigger. "Yeah."
"Alright," you sighed, "can I call you back? I'm gonna drive home. I'll probably be working out when I call though." You said, when you couldn't take your mind off Klitz, you'd ask your dad what you should do about the crush you had, of course not mentioning who you had it on, he'd suggested working out. And now 4 years into working out to combat these thoughts, you still couldn't take your mind off the nerdy boy.
"yep." Klitz said dismissively, you hung up texting him. 'tlk 2 u later nerd' smiling, putting your phone back into your pocket.
"Hey, I'm probably gonna head home." You told your friends.
~~
When it reached Sunday, Klitz told the tripod they couldn't come over. He'd locked the doors and put on a loud movie so he wouldn't have to open the door for their knocking, and early in the morning he welcomed you into his house.
He wanted to delay you meeting them until they needed too. He feared the worst of the situation.
In the halls of Westernport, Eli and Matthew were scolding Klitz, who was standing opposite. "why didn't you let us in?" Matt asked, "We know your not getting laid." Eli said.
"If your girlfriend isn't real you can just tell us!" from behind him you were walking past." girlfriend?" You raised a brow. "Tim, you have a girlfriend?" You asked him, his friends looking at you, as if they had never seen you. He shook his head, sighing. "Guys, this is.. My friend." He explained. "Hi." You smiled, waving. "Matthew." The one with short brown hair said.
You raised your eyebrow, "and your?" You asked
"Oh uh Eli," the other one said, he had more blackish hair, and a hat on that said VIVID VIDEO. "Cool, hi." You smiled. "How do you know Klitz?" Matt asked. "Oh, we've been friends for ages, since we were born." You explained, "Oh?-" he got cut off by a loud voice sounding itself. "(Y/N) (L/N) please come to reception for your schedule. " thats me, sorry." You sent them an apologetic smile and walked away.
"Wait that's?-" Matthew asked. "Your gay?" Eli raised an eyebrow. "No." He said, walking to his locker, the others following. "You said (Y/N) was a girl!" Eli exclaimed. "I didn't! I tried to tell you!" Klitz yelled. "Dude. Thats so gay." Eli said.
"I'm not gay!" He raised his voice,
well, everyone's a little gay, right? Why else would he be having these thoughts of you? I mean, its not gay to think of your best friend in like, that way right? He tried to tell himself but you got back into his mind. Your smile, the way your eyes crinkle. Your laugh, the way you pant after you run, your forearms when you roll up your sleeves. Everything about you he found appealing. "Crap." He whispered to himself. Going to his room where you were sitting.
"Hey." You smiled up at him, Tim walking towards you and sitting down, his head in your lap. "(Y/N), do you like girls?" He asked, you choked on your spit.
"Uh, why?" You asked. "I-i," he stuttered. "I don't know if I can say this." Looking away. "You can tell me, I promise."
"I don't know if I like girls anymore. " he said looking up at his ceiling that was covered in band posters, you were looking down at his face in your lap. "You think you like guys?" You asked, looking to see his reaction. He blushed, looking away. Was that a yes? That looked like a yes. "I don't know." He sighed looking up at you. "How do you know if your gay?" He sat up. "I'm sorry, this is stupid.-" he got up to walk away, and you grabbed his arm and pulled him close. "Can I kiss you?" You asked, he was flushed, nodding.
You pulled him in for a kiss, at first it was sweet but then you put your tounge in his mouth. Making out now, you grabbed his face closer and sat down on the bed, which quickly turned into you on top of him, panting. "Fuck." You both panted, until you started to get up. "Wait,-" he stopped himself. "Can.. Can we go further?" He asked you. Biting your lip you got back on him, kissing down his jaw, leaving pink marks on his neck and jaw you hoped would turn all different colours.
You bit him slightly, Klitz whining quietly; the sounds going directly to your hardon.
Oh.
My.
God.
He whined.
You stopped for a second, making eye contact with him. Going in for another kiss, "whine for me more baby.." you said in between pants, unbuttoning his shirt as quick as you could, when you got to the bottom you got up, looking at his topless form. He wasnt too skinny he was just right, and the little happy trail that leaded down his stomach...
You took off your top as quick as possible, getting to work on his jeans, unzipping them and looking up at him. "Are you sure?" You asked. He nodded, "please I need this,," he whined, you smiled at his desperation, getting him to sit up on the bed and take off his pants completely.
Now you were staring at his tighty whities, you looked up, he looked so cute disheveled waiting for you.
You smiled, his bulge was pretty big, it looked the same size as yours until you took his underwear off.
"Jesus," you muttered.
He was absolutely giant, thick too. "Dude.." You said kissing his cocks side, going up til you reached the top. "Your fucking giant." You put his tip in your mouth, his hands beginning to rest on your hair pulling slightly as you teased him. "nghh- please.." He moaned.
Taking him deeper, and trying to rest your throat because of his size. trying to take him in more he pushed your head down. "hahhaa... oh my god.." He moaned quietly as you slowly went up and down, "please.." He begged, "please please go faster.." Looking up at him, you began to rub yourself on his leg. "ahh- beg for it more baby.." You moaned slightly, taking your mouth off his dick and licking his tip.
"please (y/n).." He grabbed a pillow and hugged it tightly to his sweating body. "Please I need it so bad..." he moaned, his voice slightly muffled by the cotton. "I need it so bad you don't even know..." You pulled off completely, the man below you whining and thrusting his hips up pathetically at the lack of friction.
"Oh but I do know baby.." You straddled him, his boner below you poking you. "I'm gonna make you feel so good, you can't do anything more than beg for my mouth." you growled in his ear, licking his jaw and then starting to grind yourself onto him.
With every movement you made, Klitz grunted and whined. "Ah fuck.." You panted, hand on the bed beside him trying to get more friction. Making eye contact with Klitz, he softly put his hands on your waist - supporting your every move and guiding you down and up more.
"ah- ah!" A breathy voice panted in your ear. "so so close baby... Please don't stop.." He put his head on your shoulder.
You grinded harder at his moaning, getting close too. "Please sir!" Voice muffled by your skin, that was the last straw for you, cumming in your pants while grinding like a little boy on the man.
You panted loudly, bringing him in for a kiss. While kissing, you felt his hardening cock below you. "Already?" You asked him, Tim looking away as you licked his jaw; sucking on him lightly. Getting off the sweaty man, you pulled your pants and boxers down and got on your knees. His dick rising from semi to full.
"All for me?" You smiled, kissing his cum covered cock. Licking down the sides and sucking on his tip, before positioning your mouth on top and slowly going down on him before starting to repeat the motion. "ah!" His sharp whines only made you go faster, looking up at his flustered face, cheeks red, lips swollen from all the kissing. You got up from his dick, saliva dripping down from your mouth. "Your so pretty like this Klitzy..." You purred, going back down on him. "mhmm.." You hummed on his cock, "Ah! Ahh.. Babyy your so good to me... Just for me.. Please more.." He whined, grabbing the pillow again.
"I'm so close... Baby I can't!-"
You hummed, tightening the back of your throat and swallowing down on him. "Ah!" Thick ropes covered your tongue.
Looking up at Klitz, he looked destroyed. His hair was matted down to his face with sweat, cheeks and nose flushed, lips pink and swollen. "Fuck baby.." You stood up, putting your boxers back on and getting into bed, pulling the covers over the two of you.
"You did so well baby.." You stroked his hair, pulling it behind his ears. He whined at this. "You were so good." Reaching over him, grabbing your pack and lighting a cigarette. Panting, you offered him it. "no thanks." He muttered, you leaned back over and put it out in your ashtray. He hugged you tightly, Falling asleep like this.
When you woke up, Tim was still hugging you. You shook him, he groaned, flipping over. You got up, taking off your boxers that were covered in dried cum. You whined, looking for a new pair.
Klitz groaned, shuffling and sitting up. "Shit, All for me?" He laughed at his own joke, before looking away. You turned around, and saw that he was hard already.
"Are you serious?" You sighed, looking down at his cock it was hard and red - your own cock responding to the sight of his. "Fuck." You groaned, "We're so going to be late for school." You walked towards him.

Third Person POV
It’s only been about an hour since Olive’s innocent question and the bus has been in complete silence ever since. She had gone back to her music so everyone has been staring out the windows, or in Tyler and Dwayne’s instance, trying not to fall asleep. Now, sitting with both feet on the floor, Dwayne has his head against the window while hers is on his shoulder.
Suddenly, Richard yells out as he slams on the horn.
“Hey! Son of a bitch!”
Dwayne and Tyler look toward the front as Frank speaks up.
“What happened?”
“He cut me off!” He snaps, throwing his hand toward the windshield.
After a second, the horn continues to honk, even though he isn’t touching it. He smacks the wheel slightly, but it continues to make noise. He wiggles the horn and even tries to pull the horn button up but it just makes it louder.
“Just leave it.” Sheryl says, looking over at him.
“It’s stuck or something.” He says before groaning, wanting the loud noise to stop.
Dwayne sits up straighter and leans toward his girlfriend to look past his uncle's head toward his stepfather, confused as to what’s going on. His mother leans over and tries to reach under the steering wheel.
“Maybe if you pull it…”
“Nah, just leave it. We’ll fix it when we get there.” Richard says, smacking the wheel again.
“Okay, fine.” She says, crossing her arms.
Tyler raises an eyebrow and looks up at Dwayne who shakes his head slightly, wrapping an arm around her. Richard takes an exit and continues to drive when a loud siren is heard. He looks into his rearview mirror and groans loudly.
“Oh, Jesus! I’m being pulled over!” He says to his family as the police officer waves to the side. “Here we go. Everyone, pretend everything is normal. Like-like everything’s normal here.”
Richard parks the bus and glances at his family. Dwayne immediately unwraps his arm from around Tyler and takes her hand, knowing she’s gonna be nervous. When the officer approaches the bus, he knocks on the window, the horn continuing to go off every few seconds. He knocks on the window, forcing Richard to roll it down.
“How’re you folks doin’?”
“Fine.” He says nervously as the horn honks slightly. “Sorry!”
“Having trouble with your horn?”
“Huh?” He asks, as the horn blares in his ear. “Oh, yeah, a little.”
“Would you step out of your vehicle?” The Officer asks, stepping back slightly.
Richard glances at his wife before opening the door, stepping onto the gravel below. The family can’t hear what they are saying but the officer has Richard put his hands on the window beside Tyler and Dwayne’s heads. She looks over at him and hears something about ‘Not Illegal’ before the Officer opens up the trunk.
Sheryl’s heart sinks for a moment but the Officer bends over and picks something off the ground that had fallen out.
“Sir, would you come back here?” They all hear.
Tyler turns her head slightly toward Dwayne to be able to hear what the officer is saying but they’re both whispering. The sheet Grandpa is wrapped in is in clear view of the officer but he’s distracted, paying attention to what had fallen out.
“Don’t worry, I’m not gonna bust you.” The officer continues before looking up at the family. “Cute family.”
He waves causing Sheryl to smile slightly as she waves back at him, confused as to what’s going on.
After a few more moments, the officer goes back to his motorcycle and allows Richard to close the trunk after throwing whatever the officer found inside. He gets back into the bus and puts his head down, sighing to himself in relief.
“What happened?” Sheryl asks, watching her husband.
“I’ll tell you when I regain consciousness.” He says, watching the officer drive away. “Frank. Dwayne. Ty. Get out and push.”
Doing as he said, the trio gets out and walks to the back of the bus. Richard starts the vehicle before getting out himself, along with his wife. The five of them start pushing the bus, ready to get back on the road. After a few minutes, after making sure that Olive was listening to her music, Richard begins to tell them what happened.
Turns out, the bag that Frank had given Grandpa the day at the gas station before had porno magazines. The officer found them and thought they were Richard’s. However, in the pile of female magazines was one male porno magazine, belonging to Frank, forcing the officer to think it also belonged to him.
The officer let him get off with a warning to get his horn fixed and let him go. It’s been about an hour since and they are getting closer to the pageant. The horn honks in occasional spurts but everyone has chosen to ignore it, knowing there was nothing they could do until they got back home to Albuquerque.
Tyler is smiling at Dwayne and Olive as she gives him an eye test that she had taken from the hospital earlier that afternoon. She’s pointing at each letter E, allowing him to point his finger up, down or sideways to correspond with the rotation of the E.
“Redondo Beach, 46!” Sheryl says, looking at the sign on the side of the road.
“It’s 2:15. Might be a few minutes late.” Richard says, glancing at his watch as he drives.
“Richard, they said 3:00 sharp. They were very explicit. We can’t cross these people. Trust me.” She says, glancing at him.
“20/20 vision!” Olive tells her brother before calling out to her mother. “Mom! Dwayne has 20/20 vision!”
“I bet he does.” She says, continuing to look for signs.
He smiles softly before glancing down at his girlfriend who playfully claps with her own large smile. He blushes slightly before looking out the window.
“Okay, now I’m going to test if you’re colorblind.” Olive says, pulling out another pamphlet. “What’s the letter in the circle?”
Tyler looks at her to see a large red circle with a green A inside. Dwayne looks at her before shrugging slightly. Tyler can see it perfectly but her boyfriend cannot.
“No, inside the circle.” Olive points toward the paper in her hands. “Right there.”
Frank turns around, looking at his nephew, slightly confused.
“It’s an A.” Tyler says, taking the paper from Olive, trying to point it out to her boyfriend.
“It’s bright green.” Frank says, watching him for a moment.
Dwayne shakes his head again and takes the paper from his girlfriend, trying to look at it closer.
“Can’t you see it?” She whispers, watching him.
He shakes his head slightly, confused on what is supposed to be on this paper.
“Oh, man.” Frank whispers and sighs to himself.
Dwayne hands the pamphlet back to his girlfriend before pulling out his notepad. He scribbles one word down before showing it to his uncle, confused.
‘What?’
“Dwayne, I think you might be colorblind.” He answers, looking down slightly.
He watches him for a moment before shaking the notepad, asking him the question once again. Frank licks his lips and glances toward Tyler, who is just as confused as he is before answering his nephew, sadness lacing his voice.
“You can’t fly jets if you’re colorblind.”
Tyler gasps softly, covering her mouth, shocked by the news that was just laid upon them. All the research, all the training, all the planning that Dwayne had done since he was a child…has all gone down the tubes. Dwayne stares at his uncle for a moment as realization hits him. He drops his notepad onto the seat, thinking for a moment before turning toward the window.
He punches the side of the bus almost as hard as he can, causing his girlfriend to gasp in fright, not knowing he was going to do that. She scoots back to the other side of the seat, running her hands through her hair as her boyfriend continues to punch the side of the bus.
“Okay, we have a little…” Frank starts to say toward Richard and Sheryl. “We have an emergency back here!”
Dwayne turns in his seat even more, putting his back toward his girlfriend and grabs onto the seats before kicking the spot he’s been punching. Tyler squeals slightly, moving as close as she can to the window, causing Frank to get worried for both kids, despite knowing he would never hurt the young girl beside him.
“I think we need to pull over!!”
Sheryl turns completely around, confused as to what’s happening.
“What’s the emergency?!” Richard calls back but Frank continues to yell.
“Pull over!!”
“We’re gonna be…” He starts. “Dwayne just calm down!”
“Dwayne, it’s okay!” Sheryl tries, noticing her son is freaking out, now shaking the seat her brother and daughter are in.
“We’re gonna be late as it is!”
“Richard! Just pull over!” Sheryl snaps, watching her son.
“But!” Richard tries again but Tyler yells toward the front.
“Pull the fuck over! We have an emergency!”
“Okay!” He yells over everyone.
Dwayne starts smacking the top of the seat, freaking out even more.
“Can you get him to pull over?!” Frank yells, worried for his nephew.
Everyone, excluding Dwayne, are yelling over one another, waiting for the vehicle to be pulled over. The young boy is now smacking the roof of the car before turning toward his girlfriend, ready to jump out of the moving vehicle.
“Pull over!” Tyler screams, pushing on her boyfriend’s chest, trying to keep him in the seat.
Frank grabs onto his arm, helping the teenage girl hold him back.
“Just wait one minute.” He says, trying to help her. “Stay seated.”
“This better be good!” Richard yells back before pulling into the breakdown lane beside the highway.
Before they are barely even stopped, the teenage boy jumps over his girlfriend and opens the sliding door. Running down the hill on the side of the road, grabbing at his hair angrily, Dwayne screams as loud as he can.
“FUCKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!” He skids to a stop, still screaming. “Fuck!”
Everyone gets out of the bus, watching as he falls to his knees thirty feet away. He buries his hands and face into the grass, shrieking like a heartbroken animal.
Tyler bites her lip, trying not to cry as she watches her boyfriend sobbing into the grass.
“What happened?” Sheryl asks her brother.
“He’s colorblind. He can’t fly.” He admits, watching his nephew.
“Oh, Jesus. Oh no.” She whispers, running her hands through her hair.
Richard glances at his watch and starts pacing, slightly agitated. He knows this was the boy's dream but they’re been on a time restraint. Not being able to hold back after hearing him sob as he falls to his butt, Tyler starts sliding down the hill, trying to keep her balance. When she gets to the flatter area of the grass, she starts running toward him.
Sliding across the dirt in front of her boyfriend, she immediately wraps her arms around his neck, pulling him into her. Knowing it’s her, Dwayne wraps his arms around her waist and starts sobbing into her shoulder. Manerving to her knees, she holds him close, putting her face into his neck.
“It’s okay.” She whispers. “We’ll figure something out.”
He sobs even harder, holding her tightly against him.
“Dwayne…” They hear Sheryl say behind them but neither of them look up. “Honey, I’m sorry.”
He continues to ignore her as he sniffs into his girlfriend’s shoulders. All he wants right now is to hold her and cry, knowing his dreams, besides his future with her, is completely trashed.
“Dwayne, come on. We gotta go.” Sheryl tries again but Dwayne shakes his head.
“I’m not going.” He mumbles loud enough for her to hear.
“Dwayne…”
“I’m not! I don’t care. I’m not getting on that bus again.” He says, sitting back slightly, looking at his girlfriend’s puffy eyes.
“Dwayne, for better or worse, we’re your family…” His mother says but his head snaps toward her.
“You’re not my family.” He says, standing up, leaving Tyler kneeling on the ground behind him. “I don’t want to be your family! I hate you fucking people! I hate you!” He screams, pointing at the group still beside the bus before pointing at them individually. “Divorce! Bankrupt! Suicide! You’re fucking losers! You’re losers!”
He deliberately left out his girlfriend and his sister, knowing they’re the only two people in this group who love and care about him. His mother steps toward him but he shakes his head and holds his hands out, stopping her.
“No. Please. Just leave me here, mom.” He softens his voice, shaking his head with each word. “Please, please, please…”
He turns away from her and sits in front of his girlfriend who is still kneeling down into the grass, biting her lip. He gently pulls her into his arms, holding her close to his chest, needing her comfort. She falls to her butt and wraps her arms around his waist, sitting between his legs.
“Just leave us here…” He mumbles into his girlfriend’s hair.
Sheryl sighs softly and watches them for a second before turning back toward the road. As she walks away, Dwayne sighs softly, his voice cracking again.
“Shit.” He whispers, holding Tyler as close as he can.
“We’ll figure something out.” She whispers, rubbing his back. “If you stay, I stay.”
Making it back to the road, Sheryl runs her fingers through her hair.
“I don’t know what to do….”
“It’s getting late. Can somebody stay here with them?” Richard asks, glancing at his brother-in-law.
“I’ll stay.” Frank says, watching the couple in the grass.
“Oh, that is not happening.” Sheryl shakes her head, turning back toward them.
It’s silent for a second before Richard shakes his head, glancing at his watch.
“Well, uh, I’m just worried about the time and Tyler isn’t helping fast enough.” He mumbles, anxiously.
“You don’t expect his girlfriend to make him pop up after something like that, Richard!” His wife snaps slightly, biting her lip.
“Girlfriend?” He raises an eyebrow before shaking his head. “Forget it. Olive, you wanna try talking to him?”
“No, Richard. There’s nothing to say. We just have to wait.” Sheryl looks at her husband, not knowing her daughter is already climbing down the hill.
Trying not to fall in her cowboy boots, Olive walks down to her brother and his girlfriend. Squatting down next to them, she hesitates for a moment but wraps her arm around his shoulder before leaning her head against him. No one says anything except a small scoff comes from Dwayne. After a minute or two, he kisses Tyler’s head before letting her go.
“Okay…Let’s go.”
Olive stands up first with Dwayne following. He then puts his hands out to help his girlfriend up. Together, the three of them walk back toward the highway. When they make it to the hill, Olive starts slowing down, having a little trouble. Dwayne and Tyler both take one of her hands in their own before picking her up and carrying her to the road.
When Olive rushes to her mother, now safe from the hill, Dwayne looks down at grass, taking his girlfriend’s hand into his.
“I apologize for the things I said. I was upset. I didn’t really mean them.” He says in a monotone voice, disappointed in himself.
His mother sniffles before smiling. “Let’s just go.”
After getting the bus back onto the highway, Dwayne lays down in the back seat, his head on Tyler’s lap.

She starts playing with his hair, looking down at him. He licks his lips and sighs, looking into her eyes. No one says anything, especially not these two. All he can think about is how his future is ruined.
He had everything planned out, even before he asked her out last night.
Ask Tyler out…Check.
Move in with Tyler…
Join the AirForce…
Become a Test Pilot…
Marry Tyler…
Have a few kids…
Retire…
But two of those things are now ruined and it might fuck up the rest of his plans. He’s just praying that Tyler isn’t disappointed in him. Tyler is thinking the complete opposite. She’s thinking of different ways for him to fly. Yes, he wants to be a fighter jet pilot but maybe with his colorblind-ness, he can fly something else.
No matter what he does in their future, she’ll always…always be proud of him. Kissing her hand, she gently taps Dwayne’s forehead causing a small blush to appear on his cheeks. She smiles softly at him and he reaches, taking her hand into his, lacing their fingers on his stomach.
As they get closer to the hotel, everyone but Dwayne and Tyler are freaking out about where the hotel was and the time restraint. Richard is weaving through traffic, trying to make sure not to hit anything as they look for signs.
“2:58!” Frank says, looking at his watch.
“Alright, everyone, look for the exit, okay?” Richard says, looking around the interstate.
“Okay! Here! Here’s the turn off! Turn in here!” Sheryl chants, pointing to the right.
Dwayne sits up next to Tyler, knowing they’re going to be parking soon.
“Okay, can anyone see the Redondo Suites?” Richard asks.
“There!” Olive practically shouts. “There’s the hotel!”
“There it is! There it is, Olive!” He says, smiling back at her.
“Little Miss Sunshine!” She starts chanting excitedly.
“We’re gonna make it! We’re gonna make it!”
She stops chanting and smiles widely, looking out the window. As they drive around a bend, the hotel is in the distance, but they don’t see how to get there. Richard voices the question to his wife, confused. Olive and Sheryl begin to yell over him about passing the building but there was no way over there.
It was a one way street.
“Richard, there’s parking lots on the right!” Frank yells over there, hoping he can hear him.
He in fact does and turns right when the trees open up. They are going to fast at this point and drive straight through a boom gate, breaking it into pieces.
“I can’t slow down! I’m in third gear.” Richard explains to his wife who is freaking out. “Frank? Time?”
“Uh, 2:59!”
In the distance, they can see the hotel and smiles appear on Olive and Richard’s faces.
“It’s a straight shot from here, honey! We’re gonna make it!”
Suddenly, they get to a dead-end, forcing Richard to turn the wheel strictly to the right, making a U turn. Sheryl and Olive start screaming about how they need to turn around and how they made the wrong turn somewhere. From the force of the U turn, Tyler slides hard into Dwayne, not knowing the turn was happening.
He flies into the side of the bus but he grabs onto her, making sure she doesn’t hit her head. Richard, yelling about how he isn’t turning around, continues to make his turn before driving forward through a chain and going over into the sidewalk, making sure not to sit pedestrians. He drives, trying to concentrate when he sees the hotel sign.
“How do we get in there?!”
“There! Right there!” Sheryl points as they drive by.
He immediately drives to the left, making another fast U turn, forcing Dwayne to fall into his girlfriend.
“Hold on! One more!”
He immediately makes another left, driving into the parking lot of the hotel, screeching to a halt. Frank jumps out of his seat and throws up the door, which it slams into the end of the track and derails. The entire door falls off the side of the bus and onto the asphalt. He pays it no mind as he instantly starts sprinting across the parking lot.
He only stops for the automatic doors and follows the signs to the 2nd floor. Richard, Olive and Sheryl take off after him, leaving Dwayne and Tyler in the bus. Frank runs down a hallway and finally makes it to a big carpeted hotel lobby. He looks around breathlessly, bypassing all the little girls wearing poofy dresses and caked in makeup.
He speeds up his walk when he sees a woman beside the registration table.
“Hi, we’re here to register!”
“I’m sorry, we’re closed.” She smirks at him as she puts a couple folders into a box.
“Uh, no. We have the entrant right here.” He says, gesturing to Sheryl and Olive who are panting from their run, smiles on their faces. “We just want to check in.”
“Registration ended at three.” The woman says, looking at him.
“It’s three now.” Sheryl says, looking at her watch.
“No.” She says, smirking as she points to the clock, which reads 3:04.
“Oh, have a heart. We’re four minutes late. We just drove all the way from Albuquerque.” She says, practically begging.
“Then you should have been here by three.” The Official says, walking around, gathering supplies.
“Wait, wait, wait. There must be some way we can work this out. Please.” Richard says, walking around the table as he arrives.
“Everyone else was here before three. I’d be giving an unfair advantage…”
“We’re not asking for an advantage! We just want her to compete!”
“Don’t yell at me, sir.” She glares at him slightly. “I didn’t make you late. We’ve settled on the schedule of the show and we’ve turned off our computers. Our lineup is finalized and I have a hair check to do. I’m sorry you’re late but I can’t help you.”
Richard gently grabs her hand and kneels down on the floor.
“Please.” He begs softly. “You don’t know what we’ve been through…”
“Uh, Ms. Jenkins?” A male voice says. “I can put ‘em into the system.”
“Oh, Kirby, you don’t have to.” She says, pulling her hand from Richard’s.
“No, it’s okay. It’s five minutes.” He shrugs.
“Well, it’s your time.” Ms. Jenkins says before grabbing her box. “Excuse me.”
“Thank you, Kirby.” Frank says, sighing in relief. “Thank you very much.”
“Really, you don’t know what this means.” Sheryl smiles at him.
“Please.” He shakes his head as he boots up the system. “It’s five minutes. I ain’t working for these people next year. These people are crazy. So, what’s your name?”
“Olive.” She smiles.
“That’s a nice name.” He says, typing it into the system.
Sheryl looks up, glancing around for her son to see him and Tyler walking in, holding hands, looking slightly disheveled from the car ride. Before she can speak to him, Olive pulls on her hand.
“Mom! Mom, look! It’s Miss California!”
She looks to where her daughter is pointing to see a pretty woman sitting at a table, signing photos for kids.
“Look! It’s really her!”
“Do you want to say hello?”
Olive nods fast and starts walking over with her mom, who leaves the rest of the checking in to her husband. Tyler glances around at all the kids, nervously.
“Dwayne…” She whispers, causing him to look down at her.
All the kids are practically miniature barbies with expensive clothes and hair. All of them are several inches shorter than Olive, who is in mini shorts and cowboy boots.
“I don’t like this…” She continues her thoughts.
He shakes his head, silently agreeing with her.
“Come on.” Frank says, patting his shoulder as he approaches them.

• YeSsSs okay so
• Dwayne's a pretty quiet guy, but you're not the loudest/extroverted person either, so you click pretty well
• You probably met in school or in a library or something, and caught each other's eye
• He couldn't help staring for a few moments too long, cus like 'wow you're so pretty aaghhaedvbnf'
• You smile, and he smiles and blushes, hiding his face in his book
• Yea, you're gonna be seeing him around bestie
• When he gets enough courage, he'll put a note through your locker asking if you wanna meet up after school and to write yes or no on the back of the paper and post it back through his locker
• You're like 😂 nah, I'm doing this the normal human way
• You just come up to him and say what time with a smile, and he's just 😶🥰
• Dwayne ends up telling you a lot about his chaotic family and all, and is a little hesitant when it comes to admitting his love for Nietzsche's work, but you're really interested and hang onto every word
• From then on, he's literally whipped 💕
• Is it too cliche to say that he's all "I hate everyone except you" because that's literally how he feels lol
• You start going out not long after, and he's actually, like, the best boyfriend EVER
• He likes reading to you, or whispering or talking quietly, basically being around you full stop
• His family's a little mad, but his mum adores you because you're a good influence and makes him happy, his dad thinks you're very successful and approves of you pretty quickly, Olive's legit ecstatic that there's another girl in the house she can chat to and stuff, and Frank enjoys your sense of humour and personality
• Dwayne may act unbothered and chilled, but he secretly loves hugs and kisses, can't get EnOuGh
• Only from you though, cus if his mum or something tries to hug him he's all squirming and screwing his face up in annoyance
• He's clingy in the best way 🖤

Pumpkin Pie
WEdward Nashton x gn Reader
Warnings: None
The electric lights buzzed above Y/n’s head, flickering lazily. The streets of Gotham city were littered with people, some here and some there. Y/n wondered what each person was doing and where they were going to. Were they going home to two children and a spouse? No, perhaps they were going home to an empty apartment with a pet, or maybe they were going to work a night shift somewhere.
Y/n worked the night shift five days out of the week. They had never been a fan of the night shift, especially now that Gotham was getting more dangerous, but a paycheck is a paycheck, and Y/n had bills to pay.
Y/n made their rounds around the diner intermittently, making sure the customers didn't need anything. The late-night customers were typically pretty relaxed, not needing much assistance from Y/n except the occasional refill. Y/n stood behind the counter, looking at the crossword puzzle in front of them. They enjoyed solving little puzzles in the newspapers or wherever they happened upon one, and had gotten pretty good at solving them; however, there was one particular riddle stumping Y/n tonight.
The chiming of the bell on the door caught Y/n’s attention. They snapped their head up to find one of the regulars. They never caught his name, but recognized his face and the thump of his military-style boots on the linoleum floor.
“Hey.” Y/n greeted. They didn't bother to pull out their notepad, knowing he would just order the same thing he always did.
“Hi.” He replied.
“Pumpkin pie and a latte, I assume?” Y/n smiled at him.
“Yes, please.” The man avoided their eyes, choosing to fiddle with a coffee stirrer instead.
Y/n briskly served him his coffee and slice of pie, observing him from the side of their eye. He looked down at a newspaper, circling certain things with a green pen, then glancing around himself briefly. Y/n went back to hovering over their crossword puzzle. They let out a frustrated sigh when they had solved all but the one.
“Still working on that crossword?” Y/n’s coworker asked, leaning against the counter.
“Yep. I figured all of them out except this one.” Y/n stated.
“You’ll get it eventually.”
“I've been thinking about it for twenty minutes, and I still can't think of anything plausible to go there. It sucks.” Y/n complained, running their hands through their hair.
“Well, what’s the prompt? I might be able to help you figure it out.” Their coworker snatched the paper from Y/n, looking at it in confusion.
“A price for your thoughts. It seems so obvious but I’m just going blank.”
“A penny.” The man spoke, catching Y/n’s attention.
“What?” Y/n asked, having not heard him clearly.
“The answer is a penny. A penny for your thoughts.” He spoke after clearing his throat.
“You’re right! How did I not see that?” Y/n lamented.
“You were probably just preoccupied with work.” The man found himself saying.
“Hopefully that's it. Do you do a lot of puzzles?”
“Yeah, I like puzzles.” He answered.
“What kind are your favorite?”
“Riddles. I like all puzzles, but riddles are my favorite.”
“That’s really interesting. Do you have any interesting riddles for me to solve?”
“Right now?” The man finally made eye contact with Y/n, looking up through his clear-rimmed glasses.
“Sure.” They smiled at him.
“Uh- okay. Whoever makes it, tells it not. Whoever takes it, knows it not. Whoever knows it, wants it not. What is it?”
Y/n remained quiet in thought before finally speaking.
“Oh, I've got it! Counterfeit money?” Y/n chirped.
“Yes. You’re quite good at riddles.” He commented. “I bet you’re even better. What’s your name, anyway?” Y/n asked, looking into his deep eyes which were shaded by his gentle brown hair.
“Edward.”
“Edward. I like that name. I’m Y/n.”
Edward resisted the urge to tell them that he knew their name already. In fact, he knew most things about them, but only by coincidence. Edward had seen them walking up to the apartment on occasion, and heard them talking to their coworkers about the details of their life.
“Goodnight, Eddie.” Y/n called as he walked out of the diner.
If anyone else had called him Eddie, he would have done unspeakable things to them, but not Y/n. He now felt that he should pay special attention to Y/n. Before tonight, they were just the person who worked at the diner. Now, they were the person who liked puzzles and had a wonderful smile. They were a creature too pure and kind for this world. They were someone to keep safe and watch over. Someone to protect from the cruel streets of Gotham City.
Edward knew one thing when he left that diner; he had to have them.
