Meet the Admin!

Hi all! Thank you for the followers I've gotten so far! I decided to make this duck-centric blog to save my mutuals over on main!

A little bit about myself: I'm a 30-something who has been in the fandom since the late 90s. I watched the original DuckTales as a kid, and I specifically remember watching the pilot of Darkwing Duck the night it aired, because I'd been jazzed about it all day. I was practically vibrating! I was a month shy of turning 10.

Pictured: Your fearless admin with the first comic series, back in 2010. a.k.a. The actual reason why I created a Tumblr blog in the first place! So that I could complain about how wrong most of that series was. :D

I stayed a huge Disney Afternoon fan through my teens, then when the internet widely became a thing, I found like-minded friends online. I wrote a LOT of Darkwing and DuckTales fanfic during the summer I was 16. My best friend and I were pretty singularly focused on those fandoms that summer. We were part of an email group/list called DAFT that accepted fan works for all Disney Afternoon shows, and I think I must have had a new fic coming out every week for a while!

An amusing anecdote is that I met a girl online through this fandom, probably that same summer, and we're still friends to this day! But we've never met in person, even though we only live 45 minutes apart! It's a constant source of amusement for us.

I've actually written a monster Darkwing Duck/DuckTales crossover fic, but it's currently going through a MAJOR rewrite. I think I finished it back in 2012 or 2013, but I know it can be more polished, and I'd like to make it more DT17 compliant.

And, lastly, because I have no shame... that time I cosplayed as a femme gijinka Darkwing Duck. Dragoncon 2014.

I'm honestly so happy that DT17 is as good as it is, and I love the new Darkwing origin. I've become so energized, and I'm thrilled to come back to this fandom!

I'm probably super late on this...

... but it occurs to me that in both Darkwing origin stories, there is an explosion on a roof.

The explosion in Darkly Dawns the Duck changes Darkwing and gives birth to Drake Mallard.

The explosion in The Duck Knight Returns changes Jim Starling/Darkwing Duck and gives birth to Negaduck.

The roof in the latter may have been a set, but Jim even screams that he'll kill himself and everyone "on this roof." I've actually wondered, each time I've watched the episode, why he worded it that way. Why not say "everyone on this set"? But now I realize that perhaps they were purposefully trying to draw a comparison between the two, and it took me watching it 5 times to notice.

You could also argue that the explosion in The Duck Knight Returns changes Drake Mallard and gives birth to Darkwing Duck - bringing everything full circle from '91.

And if that was on purpose and not just me reading into things, fucking BRAVO to the writers. Seriously.
