🪡Chapter Ten: Late

You had been sitting there long enough, and under any other circumstances you would have left by now, but a part of you was hopeful that he wasn’t doing it on purpose. Plus it gave you time to work on your other model’s practice garments, so you were at least productive with your time. A bit of your suspicion was confirmed by Nobara’s singular “Megumi’s on his way he says he’ll explain everything when he gets there” text. If he didn’t arrive within the next ten minutes however, you agreed with yourself that you’d leave.

Coincidence that at that moment you heard the doors slide open, revealing Megumi, who while he still held himself together with his calm demeanour, he seemed a bit out of breath. “I’m so sorry y/n, I swear it wasn’t on purpose,” he began before even giving you the chance to greet him. “I was filming with Yuji, but I ended up giving him and his friend a ride and they took longer packing up, then there was traffic and I forgot my phone so I couldn’t answer I hadn’t even realized I did till Yuji asked me where it was in the car.” Processing the information he had just told you, you thought before responding. He seemed to slowly grow more anxious with every passing second waiting your reply.

“It’s okay, I mean you’re here now so we can just get it over with.” You turned to go get his outfit only to feel him grab at your hand.

“Let me make it up to you,” and once you were face to face you could see he looked more nervous than he did a minute ago, more nervous than you’d ever seen actually. “Let’s,” he took a second to gather his thoughts before continuing, but decided that if he wanted to keep whatever progress he’s made going forward with you, he needed to do something or at least try to do something to make it up to you. “Let’s go get dinner, on me, i’ll take you out.”

Was he asking you out on a date? “Like right after this?” “Yes, it can be-” he then remembered about Yuji he had left in his parked car, he couldn’t say it was a date if he had to bring his friend along. He could go home and drop him off, but that would just force you to drive along with him back and forth. He was thankful Junpei lived on campus, at least it made it only one person to worry about. “Well, do you mind if Yuji tags along?” he asked before even thinking of another way to get rid of his roommate. “Yuji Itadori?” Well it was too late now, “It’s just, he’s my roommate and dropping him off would just-” “It’s okay Megumi, I don’t mind, we can go right after I make sure these fit you.” That eased his nerves a bit, “Okay then, sounds good,” he replied while smiling.

He recalls when he first realized this. Yuna dropped you off at his dorm, drunk. All your friends know what alcohol does to you: it makes you clingy. 

“Hi.” you giggle drowsily, latching onto him as soon as his door opens.

Yuna shoots him an apologetic look, “She insisted. Said you were the only one who knows her skincare routine.” 

Haechan sighs and curses you under his breath. Thanking Yuna, he drags you into the bathroom after shutting the door, sitting you down on the toilet seat.

“You know you have low alcohol tolerance, idiot. Why would you drink so much?” he clicks his tongue, reaching for the makeup wipes.

But Haechan knows one thing: if he confesses, he might be risking 13 years of friendship. Your voice echoes in his head now, “We can never, ever fall in love. Pinky promise?” That was when you guys were 5. He wonders if you still feel the same way.

One day, he sees you with a guy- namely Hwang Hyunjin from his math class. Jealousy bubbles up in him when you laugh because of something he said, and it takes everything in him to not stride over there. Instead, he turns back to Chenle, who’s talking about his shitty Tinder date.

If he does, his friendship with you might get damaged. “Y/N, love, please calm down” Namjoon has been trying to hush you down with panicked eyes, looking back and forth from you and the road in front of you both.

You’ve been in a rage because of that stupid ass pickup truck that has been trailing your car for a while now. Namjoon notices this earlier while he’s humming to the Christmas songs playing on the car's stereo but he doesn't think that you'll still be pissed after a while.

Everything was going great. Namjoon is excited to meet both of your parents mainly because they adore him so much even though his parents aren't that nice to you when he's not around.

You are peacefully driving the car while cooing at Namjoon for being adorable on singing along with the Christmas songs to you because according to him, it's the only thing he can do since he can't drive anyways.

But now,

"wtf Joon!, why don't they just take over huh?" the loud voice from your yelling is making Namjoon anxious already and he knows that the fire in your eyes won't die out soon unless he does something.

"i know, i know, but just let them be okay? we're not in a rush anyways" he calmly says, his voice trying to pacify your raging anger.

Namjoon has to think of other ways to calm you quickly. You driving while this angry is not only very dangerous but you both are going to arrive late at the vacation house that you and he rented while both of your parents could be waiting already.

“why couldn’t they just fucking fuck off!” your blood’s rising now that you can see from your rear-view mirror how two douchebags have been laughing this entire time, taunting you and your husband because of your mini car. the hell, you and Namjoon worked hard to save up for this.

And then you see the pickup truck driving up beside you so you don’t hesitate to give them a finger but it appears amusing to them instead when they keep honking after.

“baby, baby, please” Namjoon pleads in distress, putting his trembling hand on your thigh and you look back at him after you take a deep breath.

“okay, i'm sorry Joonie” you gently answer him and Namjoon sighs in relief as he leans back in the car seat, still caressing your thigh absentmindedly while closing his eyes because that helps him calm down as well.

He just hopes that he’ll be able to handle this whole thing once your parents meet, to make this winter holiday beautiful for you both.

Arriving at your location in silence, you open and close the car door with a force that woke Namjoon up from his slumber. After the intense encounter with the douche strangers earlier, you stopped the music player, and Namjoon's too nervous that you're still mad so he didn’t complain and just opted to sleep instead.

You're being irrational, you know, and you really feel bad for scaring Namjoon earlier but you can't help it. He's being a sweetheart as always and you're glad that you married him. He's the only one who can handle you with his impressive patience.

Namjoon enters the house and sees you frowning at the kitchen table but before he can ask you, he hears the doorbell ring and goes back to open it, revealing his own parents carrying lots of stuff.

They hug him and proceed to drop off the presents that they brought, giving questioning looks to both you and Namjoon about where the Christmas tree is.

right..the tree that Namjoon forgot to get though you assigned this to him and reminded him every day.

You take a deep breath and sigh deeply when you realize this and welcome your in-laws with full hugs and they return in the same effort but you know that they only did that because Namjoon's here. You wish your parents had come earlier as well so you don't have to face his parents alone but they could arrive any time soon so you'll just endure it for some more.

"uh y/n? i'll go get the tree and some final stuff alright?" he asks nervously and you just nod, walking back to the kitchen area to prepare some tea and snacks for his parents.

"yeah go ahead Joonie, i'll just wait for my parents here" you reply without looking at him and he leaves silently after saying goodbye to his parents.

"y/n dear, when are you going to switch to a more useful field?"

Namjoon's mother starts as soon as you give them their tea and you close your eyes briefly before looking at her with confusion.

"you can still bridge to medicine, it's not too late to y/n" his father adds and you’re trying your best to calm down before you speak.

"i appreciate you accepting our invitation but please respect my decision when it comes to my studies" you calmly answer as you sit down to face them properly.

“what can you even do with a Psychology degree?” his mother continues, ignoring what you just said.

“Namjoon must’ve told you that I’m finishing my Masters in the Spring and yes, i’m going to proceed to get my PhD” you don’t give her a chance to answer but Namjoon’s father does.

“is the pay even good? You’re wasting your time getting those unnecessary degrees when you can just transfer” he adds and that’s when you break.

“this is what i love doing! and your son supports me with everything so why couldn’t you?” you burst out and you can already feel your tears creeping up.

“we just want what’s best for our son and his wife. your education affects your future job-”

“you’re worried that i won’t be able to find one and that i’ll only depend on him, right?”

Your voice finally breaks and you stand up to turn your face away from them because you don’t want to hear more insults.

“y/n darling-”

His mother starts but you excuse yourself at once, leaving them to go straight to the shared bedroom between you and Namjoon. The tears that you’ve been holding up are falling nonstop now that you are alone.

It hurts, to hear those words exactly from the people that you’ve been working hard to impress even before you married Namjoon. His parents are generally nice and sweet especially when your parents are around, but they’re quite judgy about your academic background since their son's an electrical engineer now.

Namjoon and you are both in the same year but he graduated earlier because of his stellar academic records and extracurriculars. He even passed his licensure exam already but he keeps insisting on graduating with you so he’s staying to do some teacher assisting stuff while you’re working very hard to finish yours to get the best results.

Though you’re still in school, you actually have a job in your field already. It’s tentative, yes, since it's hard to find one in this field but you're just luckily being paid as an intern because of how good you are already. It’s sad that you weren’t able to tell Namjoon’s parents earlier, you had to walk out of them because you didn't want to be more disrespectful than how they view you already.

It’s embarrassing that Namjoon has to take the bus to go down to the town centre but he has no choice, he’ll think of how to bring everything safely back to the house later. He’s more worried about leaving you with his parents, he knows about your relationship with them. You’ve been struggling to handle his parents despite him trying his best for them to look at you like he looks at you.

Plus you’re beautiful and smart even if you constantly compare yourself to him and your other colleagues. Namjoon can’t be more lucky and grateful that you’re his wife, he just hopes that his parents will see what you truly are one day. He’s smiling by himself when he realizes that he almost missed his stop and panics as he gets off the bus.

Before he can enter the store that specifically sells Christmas decorations, his phone rings, and answers it when he sees your mom calling. She asks him if he can come and fetch them because their car broke down and you aren’t answering your phone. He tells them that he will after buying some stuff that he thinks is still needed.

Entering the store, he spots a special display that is clearly for women and he sighs in relief because he can finally find a proper gift for you. The saleslady turns to him and gives him a flirty smile which he just brushes off.

“anything you’re looking for?”

“uh, yeah, something for my wife” he answers her nonchalantly but the saleslady flushes at his dimpled smile.

She shows him everything in the corner, offering discounts which Namjoon was initially planning to ask for. That's why he’s been playing along all this time, plus he’s also trying to focus on what he's gonna buy so won't miss anything to avoid your wrath. What he misses though, is you observing him from outside the door.

This scenario’s nothing new to you. You know your husband’s beyond gorgeous with those dimples of his that his smiles have always been your main weaknesses so he can literally charm anyone glancing at him.

The saleslady continues flirting with Namjoon, showing him some white lingerie and putting it on her body, hoping he’ll look at her before buying that for you. You are contemplating going inside but you just decide to grab last minute stuff that you know Namjoon is forgetting already.

After his purchase, Namjoon calls your parents to inform them that he's done with the impromptu shopping but they tell him how you picked them up already after following him to the town centre.

"really? she said you're still busy window shopping"

Namjoon freezes as he realizes that you probably saw him earlier with the saleslady so he leaves immediately, thankfully catching a bus so he can go home and apologize.

You don't usually get mad but today has been disastrous to you so far. You pat yourself though for resisting making a scene at the store earlier, you know Namjoon's already feeling guilty about leaving you with his parents.

Namjoon scrambles to the front door with bags of Christmas decorations in both his arms only to find both of your parents arguing already while he sees you on the phone standing in the kitchen.

“oh Joonie darling! we missed you” your Mom instantly hugs and kisses Namjoon on his cheek as soon as she sees him and you sigh in relief now that the commotion is being interrupted.

You don’t look at him and continue laying out the orders through the phone. You can’t cook for life and you don’t even let Namjoon in the kitchen so you both plan to just order food from your favourite restaurants, including both of your parents’ favourites.

Namjoon tries to catch your eyes while being crushed in a hug with both of your parents but you simply guide his parents back to the living room. He can't read which emotion on your beautiful face tops the most, sadness or annoyance.

You hear both of your fathers argue about who's car is parking in the garage which surprised you since they usually get along. Though you're quite annoyed with what happened earlier, you're still grateful to Namjoon for arriving on time because you have no energy to stop them anymore.

"can you both please calm down, i'll move our car out of the way" you out of nowhere and the noise stopped.

"nonsense sweetheart, you shouldn't move your car just because someone was technically late" your mother answers and then you hear Namjoon's mother,

"we're not the ones whose car broke down-"

And it starts again but not until Namjoon proposes an idea to both of your mothers, to make gingerbread houses. And of course, they both love him so much they agreed, relief now pouring from you both at the temporary truce.

Your fathers somehow find a solution with the parking by betting on a game they’re both focused on so now you can finally focus on the tasks left.

"y/n i know you're mad but i have to be honest now, i didn't get to buy a tree–"

"it's okay Joon"

Namjoon notices your defeated tone and leaves you alone for now. He knows you're this close to exploding just like at the car earlier and he doesn’t want that in front of your parents. He's just hoping that there will be a time for the both of you to discuss what just happened without your parents' interruptions.

You busy yourself with putting the rest of the decorations since being occupied can actually calm you. Hearing the bickering from your Mothers doesn't help with your current situation so you go out of the house to take a breath out of the cold weather..

And see Namjoon climbing on the roof with a lot of Christmas lights with him.

He doesn't notice you yet because he's trying to concentrate on stapling them and not slipping because he's fully aware of how clumsy he is. He hopes to make up for what his parents have treated you and for flirting with the saleslady that you for sure saw.

"Namjoon, what are you doing? come down now!" your eyes widen when the ladder starts shaking.

“i can do it!” he insists and you roll your eyes at his stubbornness.

You’re just worried that he might hurt himself in the process. You see the guilt in his eyes earlier so you already figured out that he’s doing this to make you feel better.

Namjoon sees you leave and he now thinks that you’re more annoyed at him when in reality you're just leaving to prepare for tonight's pre-Christmas dinner.

You're glad to find all your parents in peace when you come inside the house because you think you're very near to your limit already. Namjoon comes back safely and you sigh in relief.

He asks if he can help you just nod to him. You felt the nervousness in his eyes so you gently smiled at him. Namjoon really tries his best to help you with the lights and designs but he keeps breaking them so you just tell him to entertain both of your parents to avoid future arguments.

A knock from the door distracts everyone and you volunteer to get it since that's the food delivery. Namjoon helps you in displaying the food at the table and both of your parents are sitting down so the dinner can start.

"the dishes are great but it would've been better if it was cooked by our daughter-in-law" Namjoon's father starts and you stop eating, not knowing how to respond to it.

A few seconds of silence until you hear Namjoon choking on his food. You pat his back as he tries to take gasps of hair while coughing before he answers his father.

"it's the 21st century Dad, me and y/n don't have to cook all the time"

"but it's better for a wife to know how to cook, are you going to have takeouts for your children one day?" his mother adds incredulously and you feel a pang because she is right about that.

"why do you keep insulting my daughter? she–"

And it starts once again with both your mothers yelling at each other but you don't hear anything as you're tuning out their voices. Namjoon watches you on the verge of crying but you put out a hand to stop him.

You need to leave again before you break down in front of everyone. But before you can stand up, you feel woozy already and you're seeing dark spots behind your lids.

Namjoon's busy calming both of your mothers when he sees you swaying from his peripheral view but your father thankfully catches you before you almost collapse.

"sweetheart, you should take it easy. you should’ve asked us for help" your father scolds you but you know he's just concerned about you. You shake your head to tell them you're okay but your Dad insists,

"Namjoon, why don't you take your wife upstairs so she can rest?"

Your father doesn't let go until Namjoon stands up and takes over, bringing you up the stairs when you push him lightly to release you.

"Joonie i'm fine"

"no you're not, you almost passed out minutes ago" he argues, voice full of worry as he follows you

"but I didn't, so drop it" you hissed as you turned your back from him.

In other circumstances, Namjoon would've been scared by your temper but not this time, you've been avoiding him since the beginning of this holiday so he needs to talk to you now.

You enter your shared bedroom but before you can even sit on the bed, you feel Namjoon's arms around your waist, back hugging you and putting his chin on your shoulder.

A sob comes out from you the moment Namjoon says that, it’s the way he says it that gives you the instant assurance that he’ll always be there for you no matter what.

Namjoon’s heart breaks when you start crying but he’s glad that you’re finally letting out all the frustrations that you’ve been holding up since the beginning of this. He slowly brings you both to sit on the bed, placing you in his lap while you cry in his arms.

Namjoon and you are inseparable especially after you got married, you’re both known as the “power couple” of your school because of how you and he are always doing campus wide projects together despite being in different departments.

His hand starts moving towards your inner thighs and you shiver at his touches. Your cries are dying down as he continues to caress your legs, it’s just your breathing becomes heavier when he starts kissing the juncture of your neck.

Soon you feel the pads of his fingers trace your clothed core and push your thin underwear aside, stroking your outer folds before putting them inside of you.

"j-joonie"

You gasp impatiently and pinch his arm when he maintains his slow pace, earning a chuckle from him before he fastens the movements of his fingers.

Namjoon covers your mouth when you moan loudly when he hits that spot, grinning when he feels your hips moving in sync with his pace. You’re breathing hard and clenching around his fingers so you know you’re close after he constantly hits it.

Minutes after and you bite his hand as your release comes, his hand leaving your mouth to pull you closer to him.

"let go love, that's it" he coaxes while peppering kisses around your shoulders and the back of your neck and you sigh in content.

"i love you Joonie" you lean back against his arms and whisper as you turn your head to the side to capture his lips, earning a groan from him when you tug his hair to deepen the kiss.

"i love you much more, y/n" he smiles as he releases your lips and you trace the dimples on his cheeks.

"let's clean you up so you can rest, okay?"

You just nod at him, feeling finally relaxed now that you're starting to feel sleepy as you lay back in bed. You can barely feel Namjoon parting your legs as he cleans you up, but you smile when you feel him kiss your forehead before finally drifting off to sleep.

Namjoon leaves your shared room after you doze off, smiling to himself after seeing you sleeping soundly. Now he can finally hide the gift that he bought from the store earlier, he’s been trying to find a perfect time to do so since he got back.

You’re very good at finding stuff hidden so he has to make sure that you’ll never find this one. He even studied the house map to find the perfect place to hide it and decided the attic was the one.

Both of your parents are thankfully doing their own thing. Your mothers are making more gingerbread houses now without arguing and your fathers are watching a game on TV in peace. He finds the part of the ceiling where the entrance of the attic is, he pulls it down slowly and carefully climbs the stairs just in case he falls.

He enters the attic which is surprisingly neat considering the price of the rent, he expects a messy one with random stuff so he can hide his gift properly but he finds an old fireplace that has worn out Christmas designs and hides it there, he knows this attic's the last place you'll think he'll hide it.

Meanwhile, your Dad walks up in the hallways to find the opened ceiling with the dangling ladder and shakes his head as he lifts it to close it, accidentally locking Namjoon inside.

Namjoon panics when he hears the attic hatch close, banging against and yelling in hopes of waking someone up to open it. He gives up after a while since he might wake you up and just tries his best to sleep in the corner for the night.

You wake up alone the next day without Namjoon beside you but you feel better than before. Who knew the simple reminder of love from Namjoon could instantly erase all your worries, you both should do that more often but you barely have time even during this time.

His parents see you come down the stairs first and you're taken aback when they ask how you're feeling, they're probably just guilty after everything they've said to you so you just answer them with a short nod until your parents suggest that all of you should visit the Christmas shops in the town centre together.

You agree because you want to buy extra presents since Namjoon wasn't able to get a Christmas tree. Your parents are getting ready while Namjoon's parents are setting up their own car.

Namjoon's nowhere to be found when you call his name. You figure he was just sleeping, too tired from what he'd been doing the night before. Yes, you know he goes out after you sleep to continue putting the lights along the walls and roof so you’re not surprised if he’s sleeping in some corner.

Putting on your winter jacket you call for him one last time but you hear no answer so you close the door to go in with your parents who are already waiting in your car.

"y/n help!" you hear Namjoon's yell from a distance and you turn to find him barely hanging on from the attic's window.

Your eyes widen in alarm and your mothers start screaming while your dads are running at once to get to him. You are running to go back inside to find something soft and curse when you can't find any.

"Namjoon hold on!" you run through the stairs and find the ceiling where the entrance is and immediately open it, climbing the wobbly ladder and instantly find his arms gripping tightly at the frame.

You grab his hand to support his weight even though it won’t do much with how heavy he is compared to you but it will give time for your fathers to find something Namjoon can land into.

Namjoon thinks this is beyond embarrassing, especially since the neighbours are now coming out from their houses after hearing the commotion. He was just trying to pull his body halfway earlier to shout for help just in case any of you came out because he didn’t have his phone with him when got locked inside.

Your father drives the car just below where Namjoon’s legs are hanging and your mothers helps his father in placing a worn out mattress that they apparently found in the basement. You look at Namjoon in the eye with nervousness as you let go of his hands, watching his back land on the mattress but the impact made him actually fall into the snow.

You immediately rush down from the attic so you can check if Namjoon's okay and it makes you nervous when you can already hear Namjoon being scolded by your fathers before you can even get out of the house.

“Namjoon oh my goodness! are you sure you’re okay?” your mother asks him and he just nods while he tries to brush off the snow that’s wetting his clothes but she’s not convinced.

"no! we're bringing you both to the hospital!” his mother adds and now you’re in confusion when you’re alright,

“what why me too? i’m fine now!” you counter but they both insist because they want to know if Namjoon has no injuries or if you are eating properly with what happened earlier.

You and Namjoon exchange glances and just sigh, obeying your mothers so this can be all done with and you all decide to go to the nearby hospital instead of the original plan to look around at the town centre.

Entering the hospital seems to be a bit weird with both of your mothers pulling the both of you like little kids. Your fathers decided to stay in your cars since they both are just chill anyways, they’ll take any small break from your mothers any chance they get.

Both you and Namjoon are separated with your mothers dragging you into specific sections of the hospital. The doctor asks you to follow them inside the ward to run basic tests and your mother surprisingly waits outside with a calm expression.

Namjoon's mother on the other hand has been hysterical because of some bruises found on Namjoon's arms and shoulders plus broken fingers when the doctor checked him earlier.

When the doctor signals your mother inside to talk, you already have a feeling of what it's about. You weren't really sure if you're pregnant but it would be a lovely Christmas gift for both you and Namjoon after all the dilemmas you've been facing since the start of this short holiday.

Namjoon comes out from the emergency department with an arm sling because his elbow has begun swelling plus his mother keeps insisting he wears one even though his injuries are only mild.

He sees your mother smiling first, an arm around you while your face is still confused and timid while walking towards him and his mother. However, your face forms into worry when you see his arm in a sling.

"love, im okay alright?"

Namjoon assures you but you're still hesitant and check his arms.

"well y/n here-"

Both of your mothers start but you turn to them,

"please, can i talk to my husband alone?"

Your mom just smiles at you and drags Namjoon's mom who complains that she's dragging her too hard outside towards the hallway while you both wall towards the lounge area in the lobby.

"what's wrong? nothing’s happening bad to you right?"

Namjoon asks worriedly but you just shake your head, still unsure and nervous for many reasons that you can’t look him in the eye.

"um, i-uh"

"y/n you're making me nervous-"

You say it all in one go because you’re not sure if you can tell him slowly, especially in public and you're wondering if he was able to catch on to what you just said as you observe his features from being nervous to confused.

"can you uh-"

"hangon, i'm gonna be a dad?" he whispers as his confused eyes look into yours, a slow smile appearing on his handsome face.

"yes, um i know you might want-"

Namjoon doesn't wait for you to finish and hugs you tightly, ignoring his arm sling, and even lifts you with his other arm before bringing you down after you clasp his shoulders, unintentionally pressing on his bruises.

"do you want to keep it?" he murmurs hopefully and you don't answer after a few minutes because you want to tease him for being clumsy earlier.

"do you?" you query after deciding to just and he gives you a shocked expression.

"of course y/n, i did marry you because i want you to be the mother of my children but it's still your decision if you're ready or not"

You almost cry at what he said and hug him, your tears are actually falling down now and you scoff at this,

Namjoon now understands everything about your temper and the confusing moods, you almost passing out earlier was the final straw that solves what he's been theorizing for weeks.

You are ready though, despite your busy schedule and with all the other things that you are initially worried about. Namjoon’s looking at you with happiness and love, the same ones even before you got married that you can’t imagine having a baby with anyone else aside from him.

"i love you, you clumsy giant," you say as you pinch his arm after releasing the hug, earning a whine from him.

"i love you too, thank you y/n this is the best gift i could ever ask for" his good arm goes around your waist and slowly caresses your stomach, your heart fluttering at the gesture.

"this is the only thing that's ever been good in this whole break" you laugh as you both exit the hospital holding hands.

"don't be so sure, you didn't even open your gift yet but this one beats it" he teases and you pause in your tracks.

"wait what gift?"

Needless to say, your parents argue again about who's going to be the best grandparent after hearing the news.

✂︎ now, we all know that ran haitani is not one to forget an important date, (especially not his s/o’s...no, what are you talking about, he’s never forgotten it, he swears!!) so of course, he prepared for your big day a week or two beforehand, booking tickets to go see a movie and getting reservations at a nice restaurant to go to afterwards. he’d also gone to a few shops and purchased a few things that he thought you might like, along with a small bouquet of your favorite flowers.

✂︎ he had also definitely made sure to text you to get ready around 6 pm so that he could pick you up, so why were you staring at him with a confused look, still in your pajamas?

“err, ran? what’re you doing here?”

“what’re you talking about? i’m here to pick you up, i texted you last night, doll.”

“ehh…?”

“(y/n), love of my life, did you forget that today is your birthday?”

“no, my birthday is tomorrow…?

“i do believe that today is (b/d), so either you lied about your birthday, or-”

“one second.”

✂︎ after you promptly closed the door in his face, ran was just a bit shocked, but mostly just amused, (and maybe trying to hold back a laugh or two, who knows). the fact that you’d actually forgotten your own birthday, well...it certainly was something, but he was more than willing to take you out to everything he had planned in just your pajamas, (he actually thought it would be more fun).

✂︎ what he found even more amusing though is the random curses and thuds he could hear from behind your door, (he’s a bit concerned about the thuds though). it was obvious that you were trying to get ready on a whim, so he just gently knocked on the door, a smile creeping onto his lips.

“everything alright in there?”

“uH-! yes, yes everything is fine! just a moment!”

✂︎ despite just wanting to take you out in your pajamas, ran will patiently wait outside your door for you until you open it up, chuckling a bit when you sees your slightly out of breath and disheveled self smiling at him like you hadn’t just forgotten your own birthday.

“okay, okay i’m fine, let’s go.”

“of course, whatever you want, doll. i can’t believe you forgot that today was your-”

“hush! i could walk right back into that apartment, and don’t think i won’t!”

✂︎ ran just put his hands up in mock surrender, walking out to where he had parked his bike and telling you that you guys don’t have all evening, so you should pick up the pace a bit.

“let’s at least make this evening a memorable one, alright?”

✂︎ it’s a very well-known fact by now that rindou isn’t really one who takes the time to celebrate things, and this includes birthdays. he’s never really made a big deal out of his or his brother’s birthday, or really just any event in general, which is why he was stumped on what he should do for your birthday.

✂︎ since ran has always been the one who was more into that sort of thing, he had to (unwillingly) drag himself to ask his brother about it. of course, ran being ran, teased him endlessly about it before actually giving him the slightest bit of help, (rindou is swearing that he’ll never go to him for help again).

✂︎ he has to say though, while ran was a complete asshole about it, his help was actually pretty good. he had told rindou to buy you something from a shop that you liked to visit and to set up something of a picnic somewhere where there wasn’t a lot of people, and had even helped out with some of the preparations, (‘i’ll always pull through for my baby bro!’ ‘shut the hell up, ran.’).

✂︎ he had triple-checked that he had texted you, just to make sure that he hadn’t forgotten. he figured it would be pretty sad if he didn’t even tell you that he was going to be picking you up, and yet, why does it feel like he had never sent that message in the first place? why were you staring at him like that?

“rin? what’s up?”

“i’m here to pick you up, why’re you still in your pajamas?”

“huh? are we going somewhere today?”

“...yes?? i literally texted you yesterday about it?”

“um, am i forgetting something…?”

“(y/n), did you forget that today’s your birthday? i said i was going to pick you up because i planned some stuff for you, and you didn’t even remember?”

“...”

“wow. you’re an idiot sometimes, y’know that?”
