Any one use Dvorak?
I decided I need a new hobby, something to pour my overflowing passion into. I hope that will be building custom keyboards.
Now, about a decade ago I learned to use the dvorak keyboard layout, so all the keyboards I build will use that layout. What I was wondering is does anyone else use that layout?

there's something so raw about the qwerty keymash (ajdbhvaidlksjhabdils) that the dvorak keymash cannot compare to (aoeinaeohteuaxeoes).
that being said i'm keymashing in shavian from now on (𐑨𐑖𐑩𐑒𐑑𐑛𐑯𐑪𐑛𐑨𐑖𐑿𐑨𐑑𐑯𐑛𐑖𐑒𐑩𐑨𐑪𐑳)

im teaching myself to type with the dvorak keyboard on my desktop rn. i just swapped my phone keyboard to dvorak also and this is SO slow. but my home row dvorak typing speed is already nearly as fast as my qwerty typing speed bc im just really impressively bad at typing
#im hoping that having my phone keyboard in dvorak will help me get used to the shape of the keyboard better#my qwerty typing speed went up after i started using a smartphone regularly#whee fun times

for the ask game: 19, 29, 39
19: a fact about my personality:
i am both scared of and deeply attracted to the dark. the scared is mostly due to fictional monsters, tho, and i love going on walks at night
29: a reason i have lied to a friend:
i misunderstood sth my parents told me and when i realized that i was too scared to correct it uhedooioi
39: favourite ice cream flavor
dark chocolate and mango both! ideally in combination :3
#i started using a dvorak keyboard for fun n games#that's why the keysmash is like that#thx for the ask!!

Dvorak user, and yes, I literally switch my layout back to QWERTY or compose a keysmash based on vibes rather than random keypresses when I keysmash. The Dvorak home row is AOEUIDHTNS, which is entirely unconducive to the onomatopoeic keysmashes you get from a QWERTY keyboard.
a moment of silence for Dvorak users trying to appear submissive

Okay trying to figure out how to use tumblr, I'll start with annoying and maybe inexplicable behaviour with technology
I use a phone which has Spanish as its default language. I use gboard as my default keyboard, and have the spanksh keyboard as my default. Somehow, when I'm making a tumblr post, whenever I type a line break, it switches to the English keyboard. Which is annoying. Especially because my default english keyboard is dvorak. Why.
Okay it seems to be happening whenever I open a new text field in an app that's set to english.
Exhibit two: my stupidity
I tried installing Fedora without a /boot partition. Nothing too bad here, it works but it just throws an error every time it boots.
But grub shows me four identical instances of Fedora
Okay that's all for now I'll add some more later
#okay what do tags do#well i guess people add to their blogs here#wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee#each new tag my keyboard switches to dvorak?#okay special characters 🥖🥖🥖🥖🥖

When we try too hard to type fast, we make mistakes. And we need additional time to rectify those mistakes so that ultimately the average typing speed gets reduced.

Backing Dvorak
New blog post: Backing Dvorak.
If you look at the keyboard settings in your operating system, you’ll often spot several different layouts that the computer can understand. For instance: a French keyboard has its letters in a slightly different order, while a Russian one uses a completely different alphabet. Among them, you might see one marked ‘Dvorak’. Despite its Czech name, the layout was invented by an American…

There it is! I don't remember that being there. Maybe I saw it previously, and decided it wasn't useful for swype-typing?
Android was already in English (because American), but I've been using Colemak on the touchscreen.

First Custom Keyboard Build
I'm so excited how this turned out. It has a real 80s terminal vibe to it that I really love. I remapped the keys so it should work great no matter what computer I use it with. The only missing piece is a really cool USB-C cable but I have one on order.
The Build
Drop Alt Keyboard
Cherry MX Silent Reds
DROP + MATT3O MT3 SUSUWATARI Keycaps

I'm alive! that was a fucking incredible sleep and now I get a sandwich. awesome. i told the nurse the weird roof alarm looked like an aerospike engine and she thought i was out of it until i showed her a picture
#my post#not described#see I'm lucid enough to say i didn't describe the image but not enough to spell describe correctly#but I'm like that after waking up anyway so curse the dvorak keyboard that literally noone is forcing me to use#i like spell checked it so it looks right but i promise it wasn't right when i spelled it

you get "better" keysmashes on Dvorak if you keep your fingers on the top row, instead of home, as in .yl'rcg,f.rlc'yf,.rcgyfr'cg,.r.g'rpl, or on the bottom row, as in ;kzbjv;qw;mvwmvqwmkb; with some extra technique, Dvorak remains Pareto-superior!
I just had to switch to QWERTY to do a convincing keysmash
I firmly (jokingly) believe DVORAK is the superior layout but

What the hell, those are perfectly pronounceable
