Any one use Dvorak?
I decided I need a new hobby, something to pour my overflowing passion into. I hope that will be building custom keyboards.
Now, about a decade ago I learned to use the dvorak keyboard layout, so all the keyboards I build will use that layout. What I was wondering is does anyone else use that layout?

For example, if the QWERTY keyboard of the United States had not been adopted elsewhere in the world as well – say, if Japan or Europe had adopted the much more efficient Dvorak keyboard – that trivial decision in the 19th century might have had big consequences for the competitive position of 20th-century American technology.

The Dvorak keyboard layout isn't appreciably better than QWERTY, a fact which is well-known by people who fetishize epistemic hygiene.
But the process of switching to Dvorak has a real advantage almost totally unrelated to the layout itself: you learn to use it.
You probably think you already know how to use a QWERTY keyboard. And you probably do! (I'm sure someone is interacting with Tumblr solely through speech-to-text, or something, but that person also isn't switching to Dvorak.)
But you probably don't know how to use a QWERTY keyboard well, unless you've put real time and work into training your typing mechanics. And if you haven't done that already, doing it now seems unappealing, because you already know how to type.
But if you switch to Dvorak, you know you're going to have to learn new typing habits. And so you'll put ten or twenty hours into retraining your typing, and at the end of it you'll be a better typist in the new paradigm than you were in the old one. That makes sense!
The missing bit is, you'd probably benefit just as much from twenty hours of retraining in QWERTY.

there's something so raw about the qwerty keymash (ajdbhvaidlksjhabdils) that the dvorak keymash cannot compare to (aoeinaeohteuaxeoes).
that being said i'm keymashing in shavian from now on (𐑨𐑖𐑩𐑒𐑑𐑛𐑯𐑪𐑛𐑨𐑖𐑿𐑨𐑑𐑯𐑛𐑖𐑒𐑩𐑨𐑪𐑳)

I am one of the few who use Dvorak.
I am one of the fewer who only use it because it forces you to not look at the keyboard.
Why is it so hard to type at all?
Why can't I just think what I want to type?

First Custom Keyboard Build
I'm so excited how this turned out. It has a real 80s terminal vibe to it that I really love. I remapped the keys so it should work great no matter what computer I use it with. The only missing piece is a really cool USB-C cable but I have one on order.
The Build
Drop Alt Keyboard
Cherry MX Silent Reds
DROP + MATT3O MT3 SUSUWATARI Keycaps

love how on my phone my dvorak keyboard has this key
Tumblr media
bc i way too often accidentally short press it instead of long press but thanks to estonian i read certain sentences ending on a lone v exactly the same as one ending on a ? so that typo all works out after all

Okay trying to figure out how to use tumblr, I'll start with annoying and maybe inexplicable behaviour with technology
I use a phone which has Spanish as its default language. I use gboard as my default keyboard, and have the spanksh keyboard as my default. Somehow, when I'm making a tumblr post, whenever I type a line break, it switches to the English keyboard. Which is annoying. Especially because my default english keyboard is dvorak. Why.
Okay it seems to be happening whenever I open a new text field in an app that's set to english.
Exhibit two: my stupidity
I tried installing Fedora without a /boot partition. Nothing too bad here, it works but it just throws an error every time it boots.
But grub shows me four identical instances of Fedora
Okay that's all for now I'll add some more later
