Editing this as I rewatch for all the bofur/bulbo moment (My quotes and retelling should all be accurate so I’m able to use these for future fanfics(This is also for myself so it might not make sense))
Bofur looks Bilbo up and down when Gandalf stops their arguing over Bilbo being a burglar and says “Hobbits are remarkably light on their feet. In fact, they can pass unseen by most, if they choose.”
And he just generally keeps staring at him whenever he’s near
When Radagast is being chased by the Wargs, and the dwarves hide behind the rock as one is perched on top of it, Bofur is pressed against Bilbo and protects him as the Orc jumps down and keeps himself near him, checking to see if he’s okay before Gandalf leads them off.
OH AND OF COUESE when they arrive at Rivendell and Lord Elrond approaches them on horse and they stand on guard, and Bofur grabs Bilbo and drags him behind him, placing himself at the foremost of the group and keeping Bilbo in the centre 😭😭😭
omg i love how bofur keeps his hand on Bilbo’s chest to prevent him from falling, and when the giant throws the rock at the mountain, Bilbo pushes himself closer to Bofur for protection
AND THEN, Bofurs the first to notice Bilbo is gone when they land on the other cliff. Bofur looks more traumatised than Bilbo when he’s pulled back up 😭 and giving Thorin massive side eye when he’s like “He’s been lost ever since he left home, he should never have come. He has no place amongst us”
(Points towards Bofur hating Thorin because of the way he treats Bilbo- in the caves, after Thorin insulted Bilbo, when he tells Bofur to take first watch, Bofur’s mouth hangs open and he looks him up and down very displeased. the scene ends before he says anything but he’s not his usual cheery or happy to help self. swag)
and then obviously the scene where Bilbo leaves the company, as he leaves, Bofur looks deeply lost in thought when Bilbo breaks his line of sight and he immediately jumps up, like THAT was what he was thinking about (“Where do you think you’re going? You can’t leave, you’re part of the company. You’re one of us”). he really wants Bilbo to stay obviously because he cares about him, and he tries to be understanding of him as much as he can, and starts at an attempt to reason with him but Bilbo is too affected by what Thorin said, and Bofur nods vigorously as Bilbo tells him he doesn’t understand. And then Bilbo says something mean (You don’t belong anywhere) and makes Bofur sad, and Bofur realises Bilbo doesn’t think they could ever belong the same😔😔 He still “wishes him all the luck in world” 💔 and gives him a smile and a pat on the shoulder. then they all fall or something idk.
when the group is in front of the goblin king, i think Bofur looks around to see if Bilbos there too… or i could be reading into too much because im literally only focusing on boffins i might be insane. If that’s true then when the dwarves have all escaped and Gandalf is asking where Bilbo is, Bofur doesn’t say anything (either way he doesn’t even know if Bilbo fell with them or not) possibly to protect Bilbo? idk i can make it about that idk or other reasons. too lazy to think rn, he looks so happy and relieved to see bilbo anyway🥰

another plot twist of sorts that i totally missed was in the descent, when we're supposed to infer that juno had an affair with sarah's husband when beth gives her the necklace that juno had. i don't know if i was just dumb and not picking up on the obvious but i just assumed the reason she snaps and starts seriously trying to kill juno when she sees her next is because...she killed beth. (well beth wasn't dead yet but juno thought she was, and she lied about it.) i suppose that was also part of it but still, i was kind of disappointed when i found out that was supposed to be a reveal because i felt like it was an unnecessary barely-a-subplot that kind of reduced this desperate, feral fight for survival between two women to "they're fighting over a Man, of course"
i fucking love this movie by the way, it's extremely good. i just prefer my initial interpretation of that part of it

After doing a little bit of research (comparing the two different dvd boxes and playing with settings), it seems like the reason the better (extended) version of Muppet Christmas Carol isn't widely available compared to the lesser (theatrical cut) version is because it seems that the song cut is only available in full screen. There doesn't seem to be a wide-screen version of the extended cut available. So that's likely why the easiest to watch version is the theatrical cut, because Wide screen has become the default format.
And that's also likely why I didn't know there WAS a theatrical cut until after we lost and replaced the disk. The DVD we had was so old it only had full screen as an option, and the full screen version is the extended version of the movie.
Anyways, this is all just an educated guess. I didn't google the actual reason I just presume this based on what the boxes say, personal experience, and the fact that on the DVD that allows you to choose, full screen is the extended cut and wide screen is the theatrical cut.
#simon says#yeah so on my old ass dvd case it says that the runtime is 89 minutes and it is only a full screen movie#but on my parent's recent blu-ray it is a 86 minute movie and only available in widescreen#and the replacement disk we got after we mysteriously lost the old ass dvd allows you to choose#so wide screen is theatrical and full screen is extended#and most releases of it are the theatrical version because wide-screen is the default now#and I haven't seen a full screen version of the cut scene#so it's very likely that full screen releases got the song and they marketed it as a special treat#and once everything became wide screen they just stopped doing that#once again I did not fact check this I just looked at 3 dvds and used my personal knowledge of this movie#also I still dont know how we lost our first dvd#that was probably the first and only time we ever lost a disk and we tore up the house looking for it#couldn't find it so we just got a replacement and put it in the old case because we like the old case more#i remember being SO upset because that had never happened before and the one time it did was with fucking MUPPET CHRISTMAS CAROL??#it wasn't like. Bolt or some other movie we don't care much about it was fucking Muppet Christmas Carol#that dvd was probably almost as old as I was#that dvd was probably the first dvd release of the muppet christmas carol#at least we still have the case and the little paper slide in with the scene selection#I wish movies still did those#i miss the little papers with the scene selection or special little art or information about bonus features#like they still have the spot where you would put one but they dont make them anymore :(

If I Never Knew You is literally the theme of Pocahontas and John Smith's romance. The music is throughout the entire movie. It's a beautiful song to express a beautiful (though historically inaccurate) relationship. And I will forever be upset that it got cut from the movie. It's in one of the extended editions. but it isn't in the version on Disney+?? Someone please explain! The 4 minute song was so good got their relationship and acceptance of his fate. I will die mad about this.

TV networks commonly cut movies short to fit a timeslot, trimming random scenes for time, but on rare occasions they'd have to fill more time and would air a longer version of the movie. This was before the DVD era, in a time before director's cuts and deleted scenes were a regular thing, so it was? Odd?
One of the best known examples was Halloween: when it aired on network TV in 1981, it included several scenes that were newly shot by John Carpenter during the production of Halloween II to fill up time. But that was an advertised event
The biggest of the random airings is The Goonies, when TV airings would sometimes include a scene involving a giant octopus that was deleted from the theatrical cut; bc many kids first saw it via those TV showings, many were surprised when the scene wasn't there on home video or on other networks. But it was just there on TV, sometimes.
I personally encountered one a few years ago: I was watching Independence Day on TBS or something & it had scenes I didn't recognize, bc they were just, with no announcement, airing a rare extended cut for no reason but a baseball game getting cancelled.
Anyway I was reminded of this bc there's an extended version of "Marley & Marley" from The Muppet Christmas Carol. It has, as far as I know, never been released as a deleted scene on any home or streaming release. It just randomly aired in Austin, Texas one day in 2000, and someone recorded it; if they hadn't, and hadn't noticed it was different, we'd have no idea it existed

tobiizu actors au where they play like, the secondary villain (Tobirama) and the co-lead (izuna) in an extremely popular movie. they seem really respectful if distant during the promotional stuff, and deliver an electric and powerful performance with great chemistry within the movie. perfectly normal stuff. they're honestly heavily overshadowed by the lead villain + hero (hashirama and madara) both in fan content and in promotional interest.
then the dvd extras come out which include deleted scenes with some directors commentary, including an extended version of the main scene between tobirama & izunas characters. as the director hikaku explains before the clip plays, a huge portion of what was cut was on-set improv between the pair.
hikaku: yeah, it was really good, really impressive stuff, showed a great understanding of the characters. unfortunately when it was time for editing we just couldn't make it....
hikaku: uh. how do i put this. we couldn't keep it in the movie because it was intensely sexually charged and it got weird.
and then the clip plays and everyone sees his point. what the fuck were these guys on when filming this. this actually makes how normal they are during the press tour way more confusing, how do you unscripted choke a man while sitting in his lap for a scene and then go around like you're just coworkers
when asked about it in future interviews their response is a very polite "i respect his work as an actor, would love to work with him again. i don't see anything unusual about the scene and you guys are reading too much into it." so basically they're both fucking liars and everyone knows it

this started as a twitter post but it got way too long
i feel. INSANE. ABOUT FIDDLESTAN YOU GUYS. i’ll admit i didn’t get it at first, like the original concept seems kinda bonkers, they never interact! what a silly rarepair! BUT NO. I SAW A SINGLE PIECE OF FANART AND IT WAS OVER FOR ME. IM HOOKED. im sorry i need to talk about them
my favorite set-up for fiddlestan, and the one i see most people going with, is the idea that fiddleford comes back to ford’s house after ford’s already been sucked through the portal, so he finds stan instead. and thats like such perfect/devastating (depending on how you look at it) timing because their wounds from ford are both so raw.
i feel like this is gonna get long so. gay rambling under the cut
on the one hand, they get from each other what they never got from ford. or at least, what they lost from ford. fiddleford wants love, he wants his unwavering devotion to ford to be reciprocated. and stan, being such a deeply lonely person, can give him that! what he wants is companionship. he wants a friend, like what he had in his brother. he wants forgiveness. and god, fiddleford is one of the kindest, most forgiving characters in the show. if anyone will see where stan is coming from, if anyone can extend forgiveness and understanding where ford fell flat, it’s fiddleford.
and while this exemplifies just how deeply they would need each other in this scenario, when you think about how tightly they both clung to ford, there presents a very real possibility that one or both of them would feel like ford’s replacement.
stan is ford’s twin. people have played with the idea that fiddleford would see a lot ford in stan, even though they may not be very similar in demeanor. they look the same. and deep down, they do have similarities. alex hirsch said in a dvd commentary that there is more of ford in stan than he even realizes, and fiddleford would probably see that. not to mention just how deeply he would miss him.
and when stan has always felt like a worse version of ford, you can imagine he might feel like a stand-in, especially as him and fiddleford get closer. fiddleford, whether he means to or not, would definitely see his best friend in stan. he has his face for god’s sake!! and would stan just accept it? would he be upset to be seen in this light, to act as a replacement, or would he accept that he’ll always be second to ford? either way is just. DEVASTATING. for fiddleford to unintentionally confirm all of stan’s deepest fears and insecurities…
and then there’s what fiddleford is to stan. while i don’t think fiddleford would feel as deeply a replacement as stan does, he IS a big fucking nerd. and stan probably begged him for help getting ford back when he found out that fiddleford is not only a scientist, but worked on the portal in the first place. and he of course wants ford back too, but it wouldn’t surprise me if fiddleford ends up feeling like stan only keeps him around for that purpose and that purpose alone. to learn more about ford, to live vicariously through him as ford’s best friend. because stan is desperate to know more about him, to satiate this need, this wound of missing his brother for over a decade.
god and all the little things too… fiddleford being riddled with anxiety and stan being able to ground him, to knock some much-needed sense into him the next time he wants to pick up that memory gun. stan struggling to take care of himself, to see his own self worth, and fiddleford being there to make sure he eats enough food, reminds him to shower, helps wash or cut his unkempt hair. falling asleep holding each other, because they need that comfort, that warmth, that heartbeat, to feel okay enough to rest.
ugh you could do sooo much with these bitches it drives me up the wall. i feel so unwell just thinking about them. i could yap even more but i’ll keep that for another post
