This is now my third Shop Vac in 4 years and for the most part it’s been great, however, they just can’t handle the dust created by woodworking and eventually start smoking and burn out. I figured I’d try some kind of cyclonic device and I ended up partnering with @thedustopper to review. While this is not available in Canada quite yet, they are working on it and it should be early in the new year. Stay tuned as I’ll have some to give away! . There isn’t much to this setup, what you see in the pictures is what you get. You get the Dustopper which fits on standard 5-gallon buckets. Thanks to @windsorplywood.shpk for sending me one of their buckets for this review. It also comes with a 36” hose so you can connect between the top of the Dustopper and your Vaccum. Connect the longer hose to your tool and the input of the Dustopper and you are good to go. . This worked quite well and found virtually no dust or debris in my shop vac. The only time I had something in the shop vac container was when I sucked up larger items which on any cyclonic devices, ends up passing through. Once full its easy to top the top off and empty into a plastic bag. Easy peasy lemon squeezy. . This weekend I rebuilt by shop-vac/cyclone separator set up. My old one was a cart with the dust deputy and shop-vac held on with bungee cord. It was clumsy, took up space, and the hoses were out of control. The new one stacks a dustopper over the shop-vac. I spent more time optimizing the hoses, adapters, and cord wrap.

Do you use drill press? Is it a bench top or a floor standing one? This is my mobile drill press stand. It consists of its own dust collection system with a dust separator @dustopper and flexible arm to hold a hose in the right place. It has a drawer where all my drill bits are. On the side I installed brackets to store @woodpeckers_tools table when it's not in use. The whole thing rides on @factor_duty excellent casters. Cooperation between @thedustopper @tacklifetools and @radekartwoodwork resulted in perhaps the Most Compact Dust Collection System on the planet! I loved @thedustopper from the first sight for it's low profile. It gave me idea of making this device. I decided to use @tacklifetools vac because it is quite powerful while small in size. Other than that you need 2 buckets. Total cost about $110 without a hose. The 7 ft hose from @ridgidpowertools costs another $20. On very top there's motor and fan with filter taken from Tacklife vac. It sits on a 5 gal bucket. I had to cut the rim though to make it fit. It takes a minute with a jigsaw. I also cut off the button of this bucket (which I'm gonna keep as a bathtub for circular saw blades). The biggest challenge was to mount it on top of a dustopper. I used two sticks of hot glue for this task and it works perfectly. After applying liberal amount I used heat gun to melt it all and make sure to create a perfect seal. Dustopper pops on another bucket which required no modification. I just removed it's handle. At the bottom there's round base made of wood in which I pushed casters from the vac. I managed to eliminate short hose from the system by using the upper bucket. I wish it would be wider and lower but at least it's just one device with one wire and one hose. What do you think guys?
