Okay, so I feel a bit calmer this morning, even though I still feel very much sad and disappointed with the whole Moonvale thing, but I'd like to share a few thoughts with you all, both bad and good, concerning the game.

And if you know me by now, you also know I can't write short posts expressing myself, so feel free to skip this long post! 😅

Alrighty, so let's begin:

From the moment Everbyte announced Moonvale I was very excited. As Duskwood was an amazing game, I only expected for the new game to be even more amazing. Logical, right? I never expected it to be a Duskwood sequel, and that was absoluetly ok for me, because no matter how much we all wanted and hoped for it, I was more than willing to give the team that made so wonderful and amazing game as Duskwood a chance to amaze me once more. And when they said that Duskwood will be a part of the new game as a side story, that excitement was only getting bigger.

And so here we are, two agonizing years of waiting later, only to be welcomed with this huge disappointment.

When I started with Moonvale, I really took it slowly, exploring everything carefully before even opening the chat and actually starting with the game and the story itself. And lo and behold, what do I see? No possibility for a premium package, but a lot of options for a ridiculously priced packages to buy jewels for, at that moment, who knew what, but I had a suspicion what it was for. Nonetheless, I dissmissed it for the time being, even though it was getting me a bit frustrated, and decided to move on and start with the story.

The story itself started quite good. I even started to laugh at one point realizing and thinking to myself Gosh, those Everbyte people really like the woods! The character/actor of Eric is nice, I like him, even though he seemes to be pretty clumsy! 😄

Now, the actor/character of Adam is probably the one of the rare things that amazed me from the start! His performance was so great, and I think I read it in someones post this morning how someone also thought he looks alike Rami Malek, and that was my first thought, too! Ok, so far not bad at all one would think, right? Wrong!

At first I didn't really pay attention to, or even realized it, but as other characters started to appear in the game, everything started to scream AI. The chats with those characters just didn't really feel right, you know? And I was really appalled by it. I mean, come on Everbyte, did we really come to this? Are you doubting in your capability of creating something great so much, when we know you damn well CAN do it? Or has the usage of AI became so much needed/mandatory ( I don't know what word to put here really or to explain it better), that you cannot do anything without it? Considering so many creators of all kinds are fighting so hard to stop it from being used in everything, I suppose no. But then again, I don't know if my knowledge about it is sufficient enough, but I can voice out my opinion, and I don't like it at all!

Ok, I have to admit, the chat with Ash about us and Duskwood wasn't bad,or the chat between Ash and Charlie about us, but that is all good(ish) I can say about that.

By this time I was really getting annoyed and frustrated, and as some of you might saw one of my post from yesterday, when it gotten really interesting in the story and my insufficient amount of jewels prevented me from seeing some photos/videos, I was so fucking angry and disappointed that I was very VERY close to just drop the whole thing and stop playing. But I continued, just for the sake to finish it.

And when I finally did finish it, not even the last video of Alan's body camera, or the message after that from Jake, lifted my spirit. All I could think of was how sad and disappointed I was. :(

I really expected an amazing and great game from Everbyte, considering Duskwood is one of THE BEST games I have played. But to get money grabbing, AI screaming thing, that was looking so promising...it just saddens me. I know they need to make money somehow, I'm well aware of it, but not like this. Not like this!

Will I continue playing it? Yes, I probably will, but mostly because I want to see how it will continue with the Duskwood sidestory. Also, I read people are considering using the mod pack if/when it becomes available so they can see the premium/special options, but I won't do that. I don't judge anyone here, do what you want, this is just my opinion, but no matter what, I still have respect towards the creators, and using those mod packs just doesn't feel right to me.

So again, yes, I will continue with Moonvale, but neither will I pay for special options (unless they by some miracle make it like with Duskwood, which I doubt but one can hope!), nor will I use the mod pack of any kind. And I really REALLY hope by all thats sacred, that as the Duskwood side story advances, those jewels won't be necessary to use there, because in that case, that's it from me, sayonara/ goodbye/farewell/adios to Moonvale completely. At least I will always have Duskwood.

But just when she thought she was done with being a detective after rescuing Hannah, a mysterious message thanking her for picking up a man named Adam will bring back the detective she wanted to leave behind.

As I said, from now on long stories will go to Wattpad.

Made the conscious decision to restart Duskwood because I forgot how my first playthrough was going and with the upcoming sequel/spin-off I thought I may as well. Even to this day, years apart, Richy continues to feel very sus.

Ok, but seriously after ep 7 and 8 I thought Everbyte was going to kill more characters, but now I don't think they have the guts to do it. In case you didn't know, I really didn't like ep 9. Not as much as I hate Lilly’s arc because I still feel that's the weakest part of the story, but ep 9 was such a mood killer after ep 8. I was expecting more shock and awe and instead we got a photo montage. The only redeeming part of ep 9 was the intercourse I mean "screen sharing".

So I don't know, maybe they'll go back to shock and awe and remind us that MWAF is actually a bad guy, not just a misunderstood individual with a feather fetish.

I'm torn with who I think MWAF is. The theory that Hannah has gone off the rails is very compelling. The idea that Richy faked his death has merit. And for being straight up Michael Hanson, well, that's plausible too. I know people think it's too easy, but I think with the amount of time we've been given, the fandom (including me) does overthink things.

I've taken Dan off the hook for now. After replaying, I really got the feeling he knew Hannah and Amy's story all along, but because of the person that he is, he was ready to take their secret to the grave. How? I think he helped them cover it up. Maybe he even went with Hannah to see Iris. (I refuse to accept the diary entry change.) He drops a lot of hints that the group carries a lot of secrets and he's burdened with knowing those secrets, but at the same time he is fine to be the one that cleans up their shit. You might argue that he was just referring to the key incident, but I feel he admitted a small secret to keep us from asking about the bigger secrets. Or I might be overthinking things again...

I don't really see MWAF being the others. Like I try to understand people's arguments for it, but it's just not compelling enough for me right now. Sure, Everbyte might reveal a sudden twist. Who doesn't love a twist? I just hope the twist isn't convoluted.

But goddamnit, they better tell us who Ted is!! I won't tolerate that nonsense any longer!

I do believe there will be a set up for the sequel though. Like if Everbyte haven't completely burnt themselves out with Duskwood, it would be kind of silly not to ride the Duskwood train a little longer. Having a hit IP is every indie studio's dream, and trying a new IP now would be a huge gamble. So yes, my money is on Duskwood 2 or some sort of spin-off. But if they're burnt out, then they're burnt out.

~DUSKWOOD~WHAT IF~

We always assumed that Duskwood would have a happy ending. That the MWAF would eventually be captured or killed,so that the gang could save Hannah and at best Richy (advocate of his innocence u_u)

But what if Everbyte hadn't thought of an happy ending? What if the story about the MWAF was actually the beginning of a Dark Vigilante's career?

Sure,it would be a little dark,but most vigilantes start out because someone close to them has been killed or suffered something unfair...

The MWAF approach is not all that different after all. Sure threatening phone calls are something of a "super villain"...however there have been Vigilantes among the superheroes who started out in far worse ways,see The Punisher for example (bloody hell this guy!).

My question is: What if the story is not about finding Hannah,but about watching a Vigilante like the one in the comics take shape?

What if Everbyte created an ending that was open to interpretation and then made a sequel in which WE are the MWAF?

What if our purpose in that case was to do justice in that macabre way and then something came up that made us redeem or change our modus operandi? Like an event,a loved one,an animal or whatever inspires you the most.

I wonder,you,what would you do? Would you be intrigued by the game? Or would you find it too heavy and complex?

Because I believe that not only would I love it,but I would probably write a lot of FF on it too xD

Have we ever talked about some of these might be hints for the new game? I mean, a few don’t make much sense in connection with Duskwood. 🤔

The ';)' smiley at the end worried me a bit. It could be an allusion/hint that Jake will actually only appear in the sidestory. Or it is just an allusion that is not related to it. I'm confused and scared :')

This is so weird. I get really paranoid and see in everything a possible hint for the new game.

I mean, we can say that to Jake even though he’s already offline. Then the atmosphere of our message is kind of weird, just like it’s maybe not the end. And I mean, the truth, duskwood is over pretty soon after, so is it related to the in game time or the real path? And "our [...] path" This makes me think somehow as if it could be related to the fact that Jake and MC’s common path is not yet finished. Also not after Duskwood. Perhaps it is only related to the fact that episode 10 still escalates completely at the end. But like I said, I get paranoid, let me dream and hope. xD

A crazy thought crossed my mind some days ago. What if... Listen carefully! What IF Everbyte k*lled Jake because they saw some fans are a little obsessed with the idea of Jake being still alive and maybe even be real (because there really are some who are obsessed in a unhealthy way) and want to end the Jake Era...

Maybe we will chat with the rest of the group in the side game, and they will tell us what happened and Hannah will give us all the answers we crave so badly. Hate me all you want. It was just a thought that crossed my mind, and I hate the thought myself.

So, what do you think? 🤔

I have to say that (unfortunately) the possibility of Everbyte killing Jake would somehow make sense to me. So of course it would break my heart, but it would be a good and logical way to put an end to Jake. I don’t think the reason for that would be the one you mentioned, the fans, but just to start a new era, as you say. So we could probably focus more on the new game etc.

Everbyte knows that the Fandom would like to keep Jake, but I could understand if Jake would get a end like that. I think a lot of people could handle it rather than the fact that Jake just wouldn’t be a part of the new game.

And somehow it would also fit to Jake’s character and his background story. I mean, the lone hacker and the last thing he does, he saves the people he loves. Would fit. And it would be an incredible plot twist.

So I have to say it’s a very interesting thought and it kind of makes sense. It's a possibility, I would say. BUT I don’t think Everbyte would really do it, the community loves Jake too much and I think it would break all our hearts too much. Richy’s death was already very bad, but Jake's? Oh lord...

Everbyte can be mean, but I don’t think they’re that mean. Hopefully!! Anon! Don’t give them such ideas, what are you doing?? 😭

What do you think about who can play Jake,or the most important thing:Could we see him in the new game?Some people say it's Ivan,the videos taken for Jake's video call are said to be him,videos uploaded to the internet :D I don't know where or what the source of the videos is but do you think lvan will appear as Jake in the new game or will he be played by a different actor? Or do you think we may never see him? (My english is a little bad,excuse me if the sentences are a bit meaningless or inaccurate :'D)

Hey, dear Anon. :D Don’t worry about your english. I can understand you very well. My native language is also not English, so I probably make mistakes myself. :)💚

First of all, the pictures of Jake are stock photos by shutterstock. That's the name of the page. There you can buy the rights to photos to use them. Ivan was the actor of the images that Everbyte used in the game for Jake. We have already discussed this issue a few times, so I have a clear opinion on it. :)

And no, I don’t think Ivan is gonna be the real Jake, only photos of him were used, nothing more, he has nothing to do with duskwood. Otherwise Everbyte could have used pictures with his face. Fans have found out who the actor is and more has not happened, exactly the same as with the actor of Phil. Only his pictures are interesting for Duskwood, he himself is not. Everbyte just needed matching and cliché hacker photos for Jake, they found good ones and used them. Everything else has nothing to do with duskwood, it’s all about the aesthetic. Of course, it could be that Everbyte has now found out that Fandom has found Ivan. But I do not believe that this will lead to cooperation. 🤔

I mean, after the 'I love you' from Jake to Fem! MC, another logical step would also be to see him. But I have to say, I don’t think we’ll ever see Jake. Maybe we’ll get a performer, but maybe we’ll never see his face. I think everyone has a very personal idea of Jake and I can imagine that Everbyte prefers to just leave us the idea. After all, everyone is satisfied with their own Jake.

And I mean, actually, his face doesn’t matter for the story itself, at least until now. It’s about him as a hacker and not about his appearance etc. Even if we have a close relationship with him, it doesn’t really matter.

I personally have an approximate idea of how my Jake looks, but also not detailed. And I’m also not a fan of comparing or portraying Jake with any actors or models or whatever. Of course everyone is allowed to do this as they want, I don’t take anyone’s opinion or anything like that, but I personally prefer not to do it.

Whether we get an actor or not I really can’t answer. But I rather think we’re not gonna get an actor for Jake. I think it works very well even without actor, we have our ideas, we have fanarts and pictures from the internet. We can imagine Jake the way we want. Of course we can still imagine Jake differently with an actor, but I think then we will always have to think a little about the real actor.

So; I personally don’t care if we get one or not. I’m absolutely happy with both and I don’t really care about how the character who would be chosen by Everbyte would look like. I think it’s absolutely beautiful the way it is now, even if Everbyte should choose an actor, I would still be very happy. As long as Everbyte acts as they want, I support everything. :D

Of course, this is just my opinion and what I think, I have as little knowledge about it as anyone else. Many hope that we will get an actor for Jake, so I’m sorry that my answer is rather negative. I hope you don’t hate me for it. 💚

I managed to totally confuse myself with this thought. xD This could mean a lot for the new game. Actually, this should mean that we don’t know about it at the beginning of the new game. Now the question is whether Everbyte will do this or whether the video will count. Maybe that really means MC has no idea what happened to Jake and the mine.

No, what is wrong with me, why do such thoughts come to me? I will never be able to sleep peacefully again. 😩

Actually, MC doesn’t know about Hannah and Jake at the end of episode 10. Hannah jumping up and all. That was for us, but theoretically our MC in the duskwood universe knows nothing about it. I mean, of course, maybe we know, but this video would of course not be valid in a real universe/in game. Do you understand what I mean? 🤔

Actually, yes, I think Hannah would have to go to jail for that, and by law, of course, she would have to go to jail. Actually, that would be the only logical consequence. I think if she doesn’t have to go to jail, then somehow the story wouldn’t be credible. I just don’t know how it should happen that she doesn’t get a punishment for it. On the other hand, Jake is her brother. The ace he was talking about surrendering to protect us, maybe not only us, but also Hannah. And maybe he would sacrifice himself for Hannah, although I think that’s unlikely, after all, Hannah did something bad. I’m not a lawyer, of course, so all I can say is my opinion. But I think if Hannah doesn’t have to go to jail, it would be very unreal. 🤔
