after the events of season 4, steve just wanting SO BADLY to be friends with eddie. just LOVING the idea of them getting closer and having eddie as a friend because hell yeah! a close male friendship with someone that is actually my age, and who i donā€™t have a weird history with involving bruised eyes and love triangles? count me IN! and eddie is FUN, he is actually hilarious! the way they share the same glances of understanding when dustin is being an absolute shit head, rambling on and on about some obscure topic, expecting everyone to always be on the exact same page as him. of course. and, although steve suspects that eddie actually probably is keeping up with everything dustin says, much better than he ever could, he knows that above it all eddie can appreciate the antics for what they are, and roll his eyes with steve at dustin, i concur, you dustin henderson, are a total butthead.
steve just about junps RIGHT IN to being friends with eddie. hey man, whatā€™cha up to tonight? wanna watch a movie? get drunk, smoke a bit? hey eddie, how have you been, man? he starts calling eddie up on the phone regularly just to check in, shoot the shit, he loves it! he loves having this new friendship with eddie munson and he loves how much the other boy has surprised him with how much he actually enjoys being around him. heā€™s not a freak, really, well ok maybe he is a little bit, but only in the best ways. heā€™s kind, thoughtful, and is always looking out for the people he cares about, which is something steve can really respect in a dude. but heā€™s also so funny? steve never couldā€™ve anticipated just how much eddie has managed to make him genuinely LAUGH over their short amount of time spent together. and heā€™s really, out there? with the way he presents himself, the way he takes up space with these big THEATRICAL movements, leaving no room for regret or shame or god forbid embarrassment. steve isnā€™t even sure munson is capable of feeling it at all.
eddie munson is a good dude, and steve could use a bit more of that kind of person around him. he loves all of his friends, the weird little bonded family heā€™s found himself apart of, and they are all good people, but it never hurts to have afew more added in here and there. it never hurts to know there are more good people out there to find.
so steve is all over eddie, it seems.
at least, from where eddie is standing. nobody else seems as phased as eddie does at this sudden change in steveā€™s demeanour, in his interest in what eddie munson spends his time doing these days. it seems like, to everyone else, to steve, itā€™s just a natural progression in their relationship, after being sort of role model figures to the same group of kids, both being the two single dudes, who fought the same monsters together last spring, it seems nobody questions too much that theyā€™d start casually hanging around eachother more. especially since eddie has found himself to fit into his own special spot as one of the group now after it all, after he unwillingly became tangled in this whole upsidedown-superpowers-supernatural-monsters and demons debacle, and tangled quite dramatically at that, the rest of the group thatā€™s been with this since the beginning seemed to find no trouble in taking him in and seeing him as ā€œone of themā€ now.
so, steve asking eddie to smoke, to watch movies, to go for a drive with no real end destination, itā€™s not really something that earns them too many double takes. dustin makes a comment or two in the beginning, because steve since when did you like hanging out with eddie? you guys are like so opposite, you donā€™t like any of the same stuff he does? and steve barely gives a shrug and a dismissive yeah yeah whatever man in response, with a signature eye roll, and dustin had said it seemingly also not too seriously, poking fun at steve wherever he can, not really meaning anything by it, as he fidgets around and rambles in the backseat of steveā€™s car, eddie riding up front. after that, though, heā€™s dropped it. itā€™s never brought up again. part of eddie thinks, too, that dustin would actually be enjoying that his two older friends are becoming friends themselves.
robin seems to be the only other person to look a bit harder at their situation, lingering stares at their interactions, all squinted eyes and eyebrows raised, though from her all this seems to be almost always and only ever directed at steve. eddieā€™s not sure what to make of that. isnā€™t he the weird one? i mean, heā€™s the one that stands out, right? heā€™s the odd denominator that makes their friendship strange. why would steve harrington want to hang out with Him? HIM? but robin doesnā€™t spend her time studying eddie to try and search for what about him could possibly have piqued the interest of cherished steven harrington, no, shes always looking at steve. like sheā€™s seeing him differently, almost. eddie doesnā€™t even think that steve notices it, either, because he doesnā€™t seem to be questioning or doubting anything odd or strange or out of the ordinary with their newfound time spent together. and maybe, maybe robin is seeing him differently. eddie knows he definitely has been. seeing him more, intensely. deeply. human. seeing the person that steve is, as just steve, not this idealised version of a boy that eddies starting to question ever really even existed at all, or if everyone around him just needed to believe that he did, and who was steve if not happy to comply to the wants of the people around him for who he should be?
eddie likes having steve as his friend, too. donā€™t get it twisted. he loves how unexpectedly expressive steve is about everything, even really small things. steve LOVES to raise his voice, rest a hand on his popped hip, scolding the kids for something stupid with no real heat or malice behind it. and steve is, like, kinda bitchy too. eddie knew he had the capacity to be a real asshole when he wanted to be, thatā€™s all he knew steve for back in the day, when he was back in high school, hanging around tommy h and the basketball boys, the jocks. eddie would spend his days hearing only whispers and gossip in the hallways of the parties at king steveā€™s house and the fights king steve had started and won on the court or out in the fields, only ever getting as close as a shove into a locker with the guy at the time, but eddie knew how it could go. he knew all about what steve had done to jonathan, what heā€™d said to him, the words heā€™d used. eddie knew it all. heā€™d seen enough, and been through enough himself, to know how these guys acted in response to guys like him, like jonathan, people who were lower on the social food chain. so, eddie knew about steveā€™s ā€œmean streakā€, if you will, but this kind of snarky bitchiness was something new to him. harrington was almost, sassy, when he wanted to be. it was less so cruel and more just, just sass. if heā€™s being completely honest it kind of blew eddie away, at first. he thought steve was one of those dull headed jocks who thought with their fists more than their actual brains, but that couldnā€™t have been farther from the truth. steveā€™s insults were well thought out, they were FUNNY, he was smart with his words. and silly. oh my god steve harrington could be so fucking silly, real honest to god goofball when the moment called for it, when he felt comfortable enough. eddie had caught on multiple occasions steve mimicking lightsabers to play fight with dustin, or the stupid fucking shit he would do or say just to make robin laugh, singing along to a song playing on the radio with a funny voice.
it was all a little, intoxicating, to watch. eddie didnā€™t know what gave him the right to be in on this now, to get to see this side of steve and better yet to be at the other end of some of his best qualities. it was fun, all the time they spent together, but there was always something else tugging inside eddie everytime they spent close time together, too. something, he knew steve wasnā€™t aware of. something he knew steve wasnā€™t equipped to deal with. something he knew, was him. was him, making things something more than they should be, because, nobody seemed to be questioning that they could become friends, so why ruin that? why disrupt it?
- robin and steve
ā€œSteve.ā€
ā€œ-but then like, it wasnā€™t that I didnā€™t want to watch it I just thought, hey, yā€™know, letā€™s try something different for a change, but then he- oh my god he honest to god TACKLED ME Robin ā€” I mean, it was so fucking funny and it happened so quick ā€” and all over a fucking Tom Cruise movie-ā€œ
ā€œSTEVE.ā€ Robin lightly slammed a hand onto the counter. She had been standing behind it for no short of 20 minutes, watching Steve as he paced around, supposed to be stacking tapes onto shelves, but ended up spending the whole time going on and on, and ON, about how movie night went with Eddie last night. She thought she was badā€¦
Steve jumped, almost running into a shelf and knocking down his hard work, and seemed to snap out of whatever trance he had found himself in after starting to tell Robin a story about something funny Eddie had done last night.
ā€œShit, sorry. Sorry, what were you saying? Were you- were you saying something?ā€
To this, Robin just rolls her eyes and letā€™s out a laugh, ā€œYou, sir, are goddamn hopeless.ā€
ā€œSorry. How long was I talking for?ā€ Steve wandered his way over to lean his arms onto the counter from the opposite side.
ā€œOh, I dunno Steve, just about half an HOUR?ā€
ā€œThat is an over exaggeration Robin, itā€™s only been like-ā€œ
ā€œHonestly, man, iā€™m concerned for you. You are like next level OBSESSED with Eddie. Eddie Munson. You do realise this right??? You are obsessed with him, Steve.ā€
To this Steve sputters, lazily waving his hands back and forth.
ā€œNo, Robin, what the hell are you talking about? I am not OBSESSED. No need to be jealous, alright, Stevie-Boy here can have more than one friend. Your spot in my heart isnā€™t any less special now that itā€™s beginning to be shared by another.ā€ He bats his eyelashes up at her, holding both hands over his chest as if to cradle his heart.
ā€œOh my GOD! You even SOUND LIKE HIM!ā€, she playfully slaps his shoulder. ā€œSteve. You are obsessed.ā€
ā€œI am not obsessed! Heā€™s just a really great guy, alright-ā€œ
ā€œBlah blah, yep whatever you say, lover boy.ā€ Robin quips, plopping down onto the chair chair infront of their staff computer, turning herself to face it.
ā€œWha- what? Lover boy? What the hell Robin, that is not- that doesnā€™t even make any sense!ā€
She is just smiling at him now, enjoying seeing him spiral like this. Steve letā€™s out a sigh as he puts his hands on his hips, and shakes his head, looking at her right back.
He opens and closes his mouth afew times, like heā€™s really thinking about what he wants to say next. Or like he has no idea what to say next, and his brain is not moving fast enough to formulate the next sentence his mouth knows he wants to say. He wasnā€™t obsessed. Thatā€™s not- thatā€™s like- no. No he was not, Robin was just playing around with him, she knew how to get on his nerves. Get him all wound up over little things just to see him react like this.
After a minute or two, Robin realises Steve was not going to reply anytime soon, so she turns fully back toward him. Saving him from his spiral.
ā€œSo, what are youā€™re plans for tonight Steve-O?ā€
He lets out a chuckle and walks around the counter till heā€™s behind it with Robin, leaning his back against it so he can stand across from her and face her.
ā€œWell, not really sure. Parents arenā€™t home, no early shift tomorrow, might drink afew beers, listen to some music, ā€”ā€œ
ā€œSee what Eddieā€™s doin?ā€ Robin finishes for him, quirking her eyebrows up and down as she does it.
ā€œOh shut up!ā€ Steve just laughs and softly throws a tape from the counter at her chest. ā€œAs a matter of fact, yeah I will see what heā€™s up to. Because we are friends now, Robin. Is that a problem? Actually I was also gonna ask you what you were up to after work, too, but you know what after this Iā€™m having second thoughts, I mean, the way youā€™ve been treating me lately-ā€œ
ā€œOh my god, you are the worst. Yes, Iā€™m free, of course Iā€™ll hang out with you dingus. You and your tweedle dee.ā€
Steve laughs at this, then tilts his head.
ā€œWait, does that make me dumb? Tweedle dumb?! Thatā€™s how you see me?ā€
ā€œYeah it is actually, got a problem?ā€
ā€œOh wow, sheā€™s feisty today. Canā€™t believe you think Iā€™m dumb, Robā€™s. When you come knockinā€™ tonight, do not expect a warm greeting at my front door.ā€
ā€œYeah, yeah, Iā€™ll take my chances.ā€
- later. steveā€™s house. to be continued?

Steveā€™s best relationship wasnā€™t even a relationship. He could barely call it a fling, a flirt. They never even went on a date. They never kissed.
Steve still thinks of it as the best whatever-it-is he has ever had with someone.
At the beginning it was mostly infuriating, how quickly Eddie managed to win the kids over, compared to Steveā€™s months of work as babysitter/nailbat swinger/monster fighter. Steve had to literally bleed multiple times to get an ounce of respect, Eddie only had to run a nerdy club about fictional bleeding and monster-fighting.
Then somehow, and Steve still has trouble pinpointing when and how it happened, everything changed.
Taking the kids back home from hellfire became something he impatiently waited for.
He and Eddie would barely talk for a few minutes and he would find himself replaying the conversation in his head for days. Anything he could say to get a reaction out of Eddie became fundamental, and if he started by picking subjects to piss him off, he ended learning about Eddieā€™s favorites, because few minutes after hellfire were never enough and Steve needed Eddie to talk as much as possible, until the kids were begging to drop it and go home.
Steve never questioned the change, most likely out of fear. He doesnā€™t think he ever was clueless, just really scared about what would potentially mean to be staring at another dudeā€™s eyelashes as he goes on a rant about why Ozzy Osbourne is the best artist of his generation. Or blush whenever said dude would call him ā€œbabyā€, or ā€œsweetheartā€.
Steve convinced himself that the thing he and Eddie were having was as good as it was going to get, nothing more.
Then Chrissy Cunningham died, Eddie ran, and Steve realized that the thing will never be enough for him.
He couldnā€™t not have Eddie. Not watch him as he entertains a bunch of freshmen, as he stomps with his worn out sneakers on top of forniture, as he puts his terrible music on to push away anyone who doesnā€™t care enough about him to stay.
Steve needed to see Eddie being alive, doing what his heart desires, and he needed to be next to him when he does.
Obviously, this realization came at the worst possible time.
Steve tried to tell him so many times: when they found him at the boathouse, when he was hiding at refer Rickā€™s house, when they were taking a stroll in the upside down, and even when they were driving a stolen trailer to a gunshop.
But, it seemed, Eddie had come to a realization just as important and he tried his best to avoid Steve at every given chance.
Steve tried to initiate the conversation as Eddie did his best to run away from it. And he ran until Steve had no chances left to tell him how he actually felt.
ā€”ā€”ā€”
Steve doesnā€™t know if heā€™s allowed to say he lost something he never had. To mourn a relationship he never began. A partner that, technically, never became a partner.
After Eddie dies, Steve has no one to be next to but he canā€™t say he ever did.
Steve just exists waiting. He canā€™t tell if heā€™s waiting for the pain to go away or for Eddie to jump out of a bush and yell ā€œah! I got you sucker!! By the way, Iā€™m in love with you too.ā€
For obvious reasons, that never happens.
What does happen, is a call.
Itā€™s a normal Tuesday, as normal as you could define it after Hawkins almost collapsed into the upside down. Steve got into a routine, between checking on the ones at the hospital, helping out at the shelter, allowing Robin to check on him to see if heā€™s still alive.
The call happens while Robin is doing her kitchen check up - aka making sure he has food and that heā€™s eating it-, so she picks the phone like she did a million times before.
ā€œHarrington residence, this is Robinā€ she says, cheerfully.
Steve doesnā€™t pay much attention to it as heā€™s folding his dadā€™s old clothes that intends to donate to the shelter, until he hears Robinā€™s loud gasp.
ā€œWhat is it? Is it the hospital? Is it Max?ā€ He rushes to the other room where Robin is.
She doesnā€™t answer but she gives him a look as she passes him the receiver.
Steve goes quiet, a million thoughts going through his head as he takes the phone from Robin.
Heā€™s still unprepared when he hears that unmistakable voice ā€œBabyā€.
Steve gasps for breath ā€œEddie?ā€
Is that really you? What happened? Are you hurt? Isnā€™t this impossible? Is what goes on in Steveā€™s head, but he ends up just asking ā€œare you okay?ā€
He can hear a chuckle, Eddieā€™s wicked chuckle, a further confirmation that it is him, ā€œIā€™m- hanging in thereā€¦ are you okay?ā€
Steve finds the question absurd. He isnā€™t the one who got left in the upside down, the one that got eaten by demonic bats, the one who died before Steve had the chance to tell him how he felt.
He answers truthfully nonetheless, ā€œIā€™mā€¦ Iā€™m not okay.ā€
ā€œIā€™ll be there soon, I promise.ā€
ā€œPlease Eddie, come quick.ā€
ā€œIā€™ll break the sound barrier for you.ā€

Pleaseeee I need the live stream audienceā€™s (and their fbi agent) reaction to Steve pulling the nail bat out to defend Ozzyā€™s honour. The series is so amazing thank you for giving it to us!
Considering the fact that Eddie got Steve to sit down on the bed, kissed his forehead, and then left Steve, Ozzy, and the live-stream to go ā€˜talkā€™ to Dan, the unanimous reaction among the chat was, what the actual fuck.
Steve, mindless to the live-stream, flops back on the bed with a loud sigh and doesnā€™t even complain when Ozzy, still wet from what little time he had in his pool, jumps up on the bed next to him. Steve ruffles Ozzyā€™s wet fur and tells him, ā€œYou deserve nice things, buddy. If an asshole breaks your things, you have every right to break their face. Thatā€™s justice, right?ā€
Ozzy puts his paw on Steveā€™s chest and Steve nods, ā€œYou get me.ā€
Meanwhile, the chat is blowing up with people being like ā€˜adorableā€™ and ā€˜cuteā€™ and ā€˜I wish heā€™d pet me like thatā€™ while other people who arenā€™t incurably horny are just like, ā€˜are we going to talk about the bat? Why the fuck does that thing exist? Why does it look used? Why is it being wielded by a middle school teacher with fucking ease???ā€™
ā€œHeā€™s a jock,ā€ Eddie answers. ā€œOf course, he has a bat. All jocks have bats.ā€
ā€˜NOT WITH NAILS IN ITā€™ The chat explodes.
ā€œHome security?ā€ Eddie tries with a shrug. ā€œIā€™ve been trying to get him to GET RID OF IT for decades now.ā€
Steve doesnā€™t even lift his head when he says, ā€œI got rid of my axe.ā€
ā€œYou had your axe taken away from you,ā€ Eddie replies because that was true. After the gates were officially closed, the government confiscated everything that so much as breathed in the direction of the Upside Down. Both Steveā€™s axe and Eddieā€™s sweetheart were taken.
The only reason the nail bat survived was because the government didnā€™t know it existed.
A couple days later when half his live-stream chats are still filled with people being like ā€˜why was he so comfortable holding it?ā€™ and ā€˜this is a prop from a music video, right?ā€™ and ā€˜please answer or Iā€™m going to actually die,ā€™ Eddie does provide an answer. He says, ā€œTry googling Hawkins, Indiana. I think thatā€™ll answer all of your questions.ā€
It does not.
It actually asks a lot more questions.
The introduction of the somewhat-alluded-to-before nail bat to the Steddie Conspiracy Forums causes absolute chaos. No one can agree on anything. It validates so many theories and creates dozens more especially when Steve lets it slip in the background of another live-stream that Jonathan actually made the bat and Steve just never gave it back.
Meanwhile, the only benefit to Steveā€™s particular brand of shitty parents is that he learned how to girlboss gaslight gatekeep from absolute pros. Anytime one of his students asks him about the nail bat, Steve acts like he has no idea what theyā€™re talking about. He has literally never heard of such a thing, ā€œLike the animal? Their fingernails?ā€
As for their agent.
Their reaction was heard across all the office cubicles in the basement of the building. Just a loud, disbelieving, ā€œARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?ā€

The very concept that Eddie Diaz got outed by Family Feud is hilarious actually. What gave it away is that they picked Josh as the 5th member instead of anyone else

Not sure if this is anything, and feel free to critique or add on or clarify and all that, but...
A few weeks post-Starcourt Steve, absolutely wrecked by the Russians and Billy. He's healing, little by little, but he knows he needs to put his pain aside to help out The Party. Especially Robin, who has not been coping with the trauma well. She's taken to spending the night at Steve's most of the time, and they help each other manage. She's not the best with physical comfort, nor is Steve with verbal comfort, but they're managing.
Yet despite the constant offers of help, Steve always refuses to "ask for too much" and often downplays his pain, forcing a smile to keep anyone from worrying. He's bottling up everything - probably handling it worse than Robin, even though he insists he's used to it and knows how to fix himself. Every day he gets a little worse, and every night he brushes off help.
It's during one of these late nights that disaster finds them again. It's Steve and Robin in his living room, and they're just about falling asleep on the couch when the ground begins rumbling, hard. An earthquake, shaking Hawkins and getting the entire Party in a frenzy. The radios are blaring with the kids' voices and Steve's trying to get Robin to stop screaming into the walkie, when suddenly there's a hole opening up in Steve's living room, and the earthquake stops. Steve and Robin go quiet, and the kids are urging for a response as they all rush to meet up at Steve's.
But he and Robin can't speak, too busy staring at the hole. One that looks way too similar to the Gates... but it glows blue instead of the usual red. Steve, ever the protector, is carefully stepping around the hole to grab a fire poker for defense. The second he does, the Party bursts in, just in time to watch the hole suddenly crack open further, sucking Steve in and closing itself behind him-
As Steve Harrington lands in the bedroom of Post-ST3-release 2019 Eddie Munson.
Eddie's living rough, bunking in his childhood friend Ronnie's basement. An orphan, can't hold a job, in his second senior year of high school purely because he knows he has nothing else to do after it. His only source of comfort so far has been DnD - either the DM hosting he does at the local library for the other poor lost suckers, or the one Netflix show with its elements that has captured his heart.
Eddie's a pretty big Stranger Things fan - it has its faults but is otherwise a really fun and interesting show - but ever since ST2, he's especially been a Steve Harrington fan. He feels like he goes mad just thinking about the implications of what that man has gone through, what all those kids have been through, and how Steve has put aside himself to focus on the kids. How much Steve has changed, and how under appreciated he is.
Since binging all of ST3 the day it released, Eddie's had a field day on breaking down this newest reformation of Steve. He adores Robin - clocked her as a lesbian from episode 1 - and loves that Dustin and Erica have been bringing out his bitchy side, while still keeping him in check. The Russian torture and strange parallels with Billy have made him cry on more than one occasion, and Steve's half-high speech in the bathroom legitimately felt like Steve finally acknowledging his change, even if for but a moment.
Ronnie's teased Eddie way too much about his "obvious crush on Joe Keery" but this feels way too personal for him to just be crushing on an actor. This is Eddie falling for the Fallen King of Hawkins himself, and it's much more embarrassing. Steve Harrington becomes his muse in every form of art; drawing, writing, character inspiration and improvisation. The Duffer brothers aren't the greatest at the rest of the show, but they've damn well got this guy down.
Hell, Eddie was halfway to crossing the last personal barrier to outright obsession (x Reader fanfiction) when the earthquake hit. In hindsight it wasn't the worst thing in the world, but Eddie had never experienced one before. He immediately dove right under his bed, covering his ears and curling up in a ball like a coward ("Nancy Wheeler would be ashamed," his weird ass brain supplies). He hears rumbling, things falling over, wood splintering and the world seemingly cracking apart all around him-
When a body suddenly lands hard on his bed with a loud scream of fear, cutting off as the whatever it is rolls straight off to the floor, and the world gives one final strain before going completely silent.
Terrified, Eddie's eyes are shut tight, cowering as the body on the floor just a foot away from him groans and gasps for air. It takes a sudden hiss of pain for Eddie to finally, carefully, crack one eye open.
Only to come eye to eye, through the gaps of his bedsheets, with the very muse he'd just been thinking of. Steve Harrington.
There's an immediate scramble of panic; Eddie bashing his skull into his bed frame trying to get out and away from the obvious hallucination, while Steve wobbles on his feet to defend himself against this strange humanoid Upside Down monster.
"What are you?! Where am I?!"
"What am- Are- You- No, you're not real- JESUS H. CHRIST MAN, GET THAT AWAY FROM ME!"
"I don't know what you're talking about, but you're gonna see how real this is if you don't tell me what's going on!"
"You think I know?! You fell into my room!!"
"Yeah, from your Gate!!"
"WHAT FUCKING GATE- WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT!?"
"I DON'T FUCKING KNOW!!"
That gets them both to shut up, just staring at each other. Eddie pressed up against the wall in fear with his hands up and out wide, Steve with the fire poker pointed straight at his neck and his hand held up cautiously. Eddie sees it, smells blood in the air, and ignoring everything, reaches out for it. Steve jabs at the air with the poker, but it's halfhearted, his energy clearly draining, too exhausted with the whole situation to try much further. Finally his arm drops, but Eddie doesn't move, watching Steve's face crumple in a way that aches everything inside his heart.
"Where am I...?" Steve pleas, tone just as desperate as the one from the Russian bunker, even when lacking its power.
Eddie fumbles for the words, but eventually just sighs. "Somewhere you wouldn't believe, my friend."
High and complacent on adrenaline and shock, Steve and Eddie just move in silence. Eddie grabs a wet cloth to clean the blood, Steve cutting off a bit of his sweatpants to use as gauze. It's just a gash from falling with the fire poker, nothing drastic, but the two stare at the cut in Steve's palm, easier to see than the one who's hand is on theirs.
Introductions are exchanged when they can finally stop shaking, and Eddie somehow drops the bomb on where and when Steve is, and what his entire existence is to this reality. Steve has a very brief existential panic attack about it, but is strangely comforted by Eddie's confidence about it all - "Even without El's powers, those kids are smart as hell. They'll figure out a way to make their own Gate and get you back home."
Then Steve just spends the next week or two in a reality almost 40 years in the future, where he and his entire existence is a sci-fi TV show. Some funny exchanges I've been thinking of:
Steve: Wait, so we're characters in a show, right? That means we have actors.
Eddie: Oh, uh, yeah, you do...
Steve: ...Think I could see them?
Eddie: Uh- Sure, I guess? Not sure what you're expecting, it's a live action thing, they look just like you.
Steve: Never getting used to your future phone... Huh, Joe Keery? Looks like a cool guy- woah, is that what my hair looks like short??
Eddie: Yup, again, literally just you.
Steve: Funny how we both have the most basic names too. Steve and Joe? Like, look at Dustin's actor, what kind of name is Gaten?
Eddie: Rude, the guy plays your little brother.
Steve: Quit bringing your fake show theories into my actual life.
Eddie: It's true though.
Steve: ...Yeah.
----------------
(Steve goes crazy after a few days of being locked in, and begs Eddie to take him out to "see the future." While they're walking around town, a group of girls suddenly freak out and rush them)
"It's Joe Keery! Guys, look it's Steve Harrington, from Stranger Things!!"
(Eddie's halfway to panicking, but Steve immediately handles the situation)
Steve: Sorry to disappoint, ladies, not him. Don't worry though, I've been getting that a lot since the show came out.
"Oh God, I'm so sorry! Hope we didn't make you uncomfortable, mister..."
Steve: Mark, and not at all! I get asked this a lot too, but do you girls want a picture? For bragging rights, getting to meet "The Steve Harrington?"
(They agree, Eddie takes it for them, the girls go on their way)
Eddie whispering: That's gonna be everywhere in 5 seconds, I hope you know.
Steve whispering: Eh, it's a crowd my actor didn't have to deal with. Besides, felt pretty good.
Eddie: Familiar experience?
Steve: For a better reason.
-------------
Steve, showing Eddie's laptop screen open to the FunkoPop website and the Scoops Duo, halfway to tears: They make figurines of me and Robin?
Eddie: Yeah, of all you guys. I've got a little Dustin on my desk.
Steve, beginning to cry from how adorable he finds it: YOU DO?
---------------
(Ronnie comes back from work early while Steve and Eddie are talking in the living room. Eddie freezes as Steve makes eye contact, and Ronnie just stares)
Ronnie: Um, hi?
Steve: Oh, hey! You must be Eddie's roommate, nice to finally meet you! I'm Mark.
(That allows a breath to finally enter and escape Eddie's throat in a bit of a laugh. Steve's really leaning into this Mark persona)
Ronnie: Ronnie, and likewise... Sorry if I'm acting weird, you're just a really good cosplayer. Thought you were actually Steve for a second.
Steve hesitantly: Nah, just a doppleganger.
Ronnie, shrugging and walking away: Well okay then, I'm way too tired to talk much more. Eds, just keep your nerd shit out of the sink-
Eddie: And stay quiet, yeah yeah, go rest, breadwinner.
(Ronnie goes upstairs, out of earshot)
Steve whispering: What's a cosplayer?
Eddie, suddenly also very tired: Tell you later.
I'm thinking that Eddie had sketchbooks, notebooks, and Word Docs absolutely stuffed full of ST character evaluation, which he immediately hid upon Steve's arrival. Maybe Steve gets bored when Eddie's out for whatever reason, and snoops around. That's when he finds it all crammed at the back of Eddie's closet. The kids, Nancy, Jonathan, Robin, Joyce, Hopper, hell Billy and Murray are in the pile. Drawings of them in their adventures, active and mundane alike. Pages upon pages of character description, Eddie's handwriting gushing about the parts of the show and characters he loves, hates, wishes was fixed, all of it.
But the part that gets Steve is one specific sketchbook and notebook, both dubbed the Steven Soliloquy. It's the same type of information as before, but only about him, and it's filled to the brim. Eddie talking about his development, his change of heart, the complete shift that Nancy and the Upside Down and the kids allowed him to have. The affects of his trauma, and how much he stuffed it down in favor of everyone else. Talked about his relationships, ones he cherishes, loathes, never thought of or never got the chance to make. Talked about "AUs," alternative realities where he got everything he ever wanted. Eddie's words, his sketches, devolve into adoration-fueled envy, wishing he could be near such an amazing man, that he was strong enough to be such an amazing man. How much his heart aches for Steve.
And if this were a normal situation, Steve would be uncomfortable, creeped out. But knowing the context of it all, Steve can't help but be enamored. That his family's journey, his entire story of survival - even when fictional to Eddie - is so valued makes it all feel a little more worth it. That there was someone out there during all of their terror, rooting for their victory, crying with their pain, screaming with their fears, understanding them because he lived through it all right beside them.
Eddie finds Steve in his room later that day, surrounded by those books. Staring at what Eddie considers his WIP magnum opus; a half-finished colored pencil recreation of the Last Supper with the entire Party, including all of the people they lost, happy and healthy. Eddie's two seconds from apologizing for how creepy it all must be - seeing how many of those books are open - but then he sees the tears in Steve's eyes. Gratitude and adoration and care, all bundled up and very suddenly staring right at him with the widest smile he's seen.
They talk about it. Eddie finally admits his minor obsession with the show, and how much they've helped him come to terms with being a self-dubbed loser. He honestly gushes way too much about what he owes to them about his life, but Steve listens to it all with complete adoration. At the end of it, Steve asks Eddie about the possibility that they've been adamantly ignoring for Steve's entire stay: actually watching Stranger Things.
And that's how they spend their last week. Starting from season 1, they sit in the living room and binge the entire thing. Steve learns an entirely new perspective about his family's adventures, not only from the show's canon, but from Eddie's theories and rants in between monumental moments. Eddie holds his hand during the scenes that focus on his worst nightmares; the Demogorgan in the Byler home, the breakup, his fight with Billy, the Russians. Steve provides his perspective on how he felt during it all, finally admitting to the pain he's gone through instead of just focusing on the others hoping it'll all go away.
Not sure where exactly it goes from here. Maybe some codependency grows between them. Maybe Steve falls a little in love. Maybe they just stay friends, the only ones who understand each other aside from their Platonic Soulmates.
Maybe, when another earthquake finally hits, opening up a Gate in Ronnie's backyard, Steve and Eddie finally must go their separate ways. Eddie promising to keep watching over them from across the realm, Steve promising to make a happy ending for their story.
Or maybe, Steve can't help but see what little Eddie has, how special Eddie actually is, and offer to bring him along. Into the very show he loves so much. Maybe Eddie convinces Ronnie that he'll be okay, swearing to be entertaining should he join the show in an important way, and making her swear that if he doesn't survive to bring him back in as much fanfiction as she can write. Maybe Eddie enters Hawkins, Indiana, and becomes a bit self aware about being in a TV show. It takes a while for everyone to warm up to the future man - and for Eddie to get used to Midwestern US in the 80s - but he becomes a close member of the Party quite easily. Maybe his involvement in season 4, his death, is avoided, and maybe it's not.
But his adoration for Steve Harrington never goes away. Not in canon, or in fiction.

Sometimes I just start thinking about this moment - paired with Maddie's "I just think that maybe you're not sure of your own feelings yet. And if there's something that you need to tell Eddie, you will. Just, in your own time" - and then don't stop thinking about it.
Maybe I'm just reading into it but the way this moment moves. Eddie steps forward, Tommy steps up to exactly where Eddie was, Buck turns to look where Eddie was, doesn't find what he was looking for but still finds something good. It's not just ep 4 and 5 where the focus on Eddie blows me away, it's also this.
#i also have a lot of feelings about how interesting tommy is as a choice for this entire storyline#during both chim and hen begins he stand-in for the old guard and the barrier they both face#during bobby begins again he's a united front with chim and hen in a desire for actual change#and sal's firing is a sign of tommy's change too - sal refused to change and couldn't stay. tommy stayed until he left himself#and he needed to leave - needed something new - to finally accept himself and his sexuality#tommy's return to me - especially with the shift to the new network and everything surrounding that -#has always felt to me like an acknowledgement that things can change#the change in him from the old guard to an entirely different person always felt so significant to me#and this feels really significant too#that buck and his search for happiness throughout the last season has only one constant - the 118#tommy can offer a change to buck without affecting that stability#the way tommy talks about himself on the date feels like an acknowledgement of all of that#and this moment and maddie's intervention feel like an acknowledgement of something else entirely#and i may be a buddie girl but i'm thoroughly enjoying this ride (hopefully buck is too)#because i'm doing what maddie did - 'you'll tell eddie what you need to in your own time. tell me about the hot pilot'#because he wasn't unhappy to see hot pilot there instead. hot pilot good.#anyway look at this shot and tell me you don't see what i'm seeing#there was a lot of visual storytelling throughout this season i love it so much#911#911 abc#911 fox#9-1-1#911 meta#evan buckley#eddie diaz#tommy kinard#another fandom same old tag rambles

This is likely controversial but said without malice or an intention to start discourse, but I don't think Gerrard butting up against Buck this season or Buck being the one who's most affected necessarily means that they are trying to "white savior" the story line. Hen and Chim have dealt with Gerrard before and yes, it's going to hit them pretty hard that he's back in the place of Bobby, who's family. But them knowing how fucked up and rotten this man is means something.
I'm a queer woc and I can't tell you the number of times I've run into authority figures like Gerrard and how I know what to expect from men like him. It sucks, and the fact that I am used to it does not make it okay, of course it doesn't. In the context of 911, it does not mean the show should normalize the experiences of Hen and Chim just because they've faced him before. But the story line here, at least what we know of it now, does not seem to be "Buck is the only one who is affected by Gerrard and everyone else is unfazed". We already know from Aisha's interview that Hen is wary of his return and will lay low until she can address this. We've seen a bit of Chim's reaction to facing Gerrard again, which could point to how his demeanor around Gerrard this season would be. I don't know what Eddie would do here but Ryan at least seems to think that Gerrard should fuck around with Eddie and find out.
But this is new for Buck, who is just recently out as a bisexual man, and who has never had homophobia directed against him. He's also worked primarily under a man who is his father figure for a lot of his adult life, so of course he's going to be pretty affected. Yes, he is a white man and has had and will have privileges that Hen and Chim and Eddie would never do. But I feel like some reactions to the previews of this story line have conveniently brushed past Buck's bisexuality and how him going up against a bigoted authority figure for the first time in his life could also mean that this is a story of a straight white man discriminating against someone from a marginalized group. Intersectionality colors all of this but this is a show that in its eighth season is looking to re-introduce conflict through a familiar figure but told in a different context. I'd be pissed if they completely sideline the characters of color here in favor of Buck, but him being the most affected here is not automatically a red flag for me.
I'm not defending Tim here, who I wouldn't trust as far as I can throw him especially in how he treats his characters of color, and I'm not saying that Hen, a black lesbian who has faced bigotry all her life from men like Gerrard is somehow less worthy of being the hero of this arc and wherever they're going with it. But Buck facing up against Gerrard cannot just be reduced to the white savior trope when y'all know that there's additional context behind it. Also, maybe we should hold our horses till we see the entire story before we start throwing up arms about it, yeah?

I donā€™t trust you if you want Eddie and buck to fuck in the next episode. Do you really want your otp to become canon by cheating on their partnersā€¦.?
