BALITANG LOKAL: Stevedores, Senior Citizens and PWDs receives financial cash aid programme to vulnerable communities in Dumaguete City [#OnlyonOneNETnews] (updated as final!!!)
Tumblr media
(2nd & FINAL UPDATE) DUMAGUETE, NEGROS ORIENTAL -- Almost close to a thousand Dumagueteño residents have all participated the financial cash assistance, which to be turned in altogether with needed legal documents in their barangays, and government IDs whether if you're a regular Stevedore(s), Senior Citizens (SC), or Persons with Disability (PWD) individuals as later prioritized at the 'Lamberto Lajato Macias Sports and Cultural Complex' (LLMSCC) last Friday morning (September 6th, 2024 at 8am -- Dumaguete local time).
It quietly resumed the cash assistance programme, needed by the desperate waiting local communities for much-needed support, after almost 2 months of delays from mid-July 2024, resulting severely limited government budget in taxpayer pesos.
The Department of Social Welfare and Development - Region 7 (DSWD-R7) distributed the cash aid to be paid out locally through the 'Ayuda sa Kapos ang Kita Program' (AKAP), which exclusively targets low to no income or minimum-wage earners. Officials from the Local Government Units (LGUs) in this said city to be paying out from the disbursement desk, shortly following after the interview to look for a job that suits your needs via online remote work or physically in-person, and is more likely to get you hired.
Intially launched in the late-mid May 2024, AKAP is a social protection program of DSWD that provides cash aid to individuals and families belonging to minimum-wage earners who may have regular income but not enough for their daily subsistence. The local government in Dumaguete has made a clear commitment to supporting vulnerable members within their community through this program mentioned above. The financial hardship faced by many local residents has been eased by the resumption of disbursement, which faced some delays at the treasury office.
Because of public service for the whole Dumagueteños as both independent sources and text messages told OneNETnews, the local government of Dumaguete City pays you directly from the taxpayer government authorities to the eligibly qualified Stevedores, SCs and PWDs, all were receiving at PHP3,000 each (or approximately U$D54 per head).
This will, not only address instant financial needs, but will also create ways for beneficiaries to get employed, thus securing their economic stability in the longer term. Over time, it is likely that Stevedores, PWDs and other qualified persons; will continue to have their lives positively affected by the programme in general, adding to the general well-being of the entire community during these extremely challenging times in life.
Besides, cash aid, and partially for those of them for Senior Citizens & PWDs combined… The Civil Service Commission (CSC) of the Philippines is set to mark its 124th anniversary, with a month-long celebration themed "Transforming Public Service in the Next Decade: Honing Agile and Future-Ready Servant-Heroes". The anniversary highlights the importance of a sustainable and future-ready civil service through various events, including a nationwide government job fair, medical missions and a leadership symposium.
The anniversary celebration recently launched on Thursday (August 1st, 2024) thru Monday (September 30th, 2024), stated from a press conference at the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) in 'Visayas Avenue, Quezon City, Manila'. The CSC's anniversary celebration is part of the Philippine Civil Service Anniversary (PCSA), which is observed annually in every September of the month, as declared by Presidential Proclamation #1050.
Major activities will engage public servants, offer community services, and acknowledge the contributions to the civil service. CSC ensures that all government agencies are active participants, thereby making this event an inclusive activity supporting senior citizens as well as persons with disabilities. It celebrates not only the age-old institution but preparing the civil service for future challenges and opportunities in the delivery of public services.
Philippine President named "Mr. Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Romualdez Marcos Jr." or PBBM acknowledges all the City of Gentle People, including Negros Oriental congressman 'Chiquiting Sagarbarria' & 'Chaco Sagarbarria' for their continuous public service and dedication to the people of Dumaguete City and the province of Negros Oriental.
Dumagueteños and Negrosanon communities are so appreciative to the local government because, for many families facing actual hardships, the financial cash assistance, has really been a lifeline during these protracted economic difficulties.

#ProtectDumagueteCoast #Noto174Dumaguete ⚔️ #SAVEOUROCEANS PROTECT MARINE LIFE! NO MORE PLASTICS!! ⚔️🌊 Recently, Dumagueteños are in an uproar in response to the irresponsible government trying to impose a reclamation area that would KILL & DESTROY the last corals and marine life left. 🐠🐟⚔️🐋🐬 We must stand together to STOP the desecration of our lands and seas. It's bad enough that every time I swim or snorkel nowadays, I end up collecting plastic trash that is destroying coral, fish and other marine life. The plastic situation is so dire that #microplastics are now being detected in our foods, drinking waters, and even placentas of unborn babies! We need to be creating solutions, not problems for the next generations. We are responsible for either the destruction or protection of the earth and seas, and most of all, ourselves.🗡️ The United States is the biggest producer of plastic waste in the world. Contaminating every ecosystem, it is felt most in the oceans of other lands, especially throughout Asia. In the Philippines, one of the biggest pollution problems here are the plastic wrappers, single-use sachets, packaging materials, and now surgical face masks that end up as floating garbage. More than ever, we need sustainability now! Join the actions from #WalaUsik #ZeroWaste #FoodNotBombs to the #CommunityPantry movement ⚔️🌿 We must support the urgent calls by marine biologists, environmentalists, educators, and locals to #PROTECTMOTHEREARTH ⚔️ Global warming is only getting worse, and our only defense against this atrocity and #sealevelsrising in our lifetimes is to nurture Mother Earth, plant MORE trees #StopDeforestation, Protect #Mangroves #StopBlackSandMining #CoalFreeNegros #BanPlastic #SaveOurSeas and #PROTECTMARINELIFE 🌏⚔️🌿 #SurvivalArts supports local efforts from youth & grassroots groups like @walausik.tiangge @danjuganisland @prrcfi @yeyinitiative @youthforclimatehope @youthstrike4climateph @mangrovemattersph @kabanatanph @[email protected] WE DEMAND #CLIMATEJUSTICE!! More than 240 stranded NegOr residents return home
#PHnews: More than 240 stranded NegOr residents return home
DUMAGUETE CITY – More than 240 residents of Negros Oriental arrived on board two sweeper flights that landed at the Sibulan-Dumaguete airport Tuesday morning.
The passengers were a mix of locally stranded individuals (LSIs) and overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).
The first flight arrived at 11:20 a.m. with 85 passengers, of whom 39 are OFWs and the rest LSIs. The second flight carried 156 passengers that arrived at past noon, carrying mostly OFWs.
Hospital Command System ground commander, Dr. Liland Estacion, a team of doctors and nurses, and city and provincial tourism officers, received the returnees.
Estacion said the OFWs from the different municipalities will have to stay put at the airport arrival area until they are fetched by their respective LGUs.
In the absence of a master list for all OFWs that arrived, the task force had given Philippine Airlines (PAL) locator forms for the passengers to fill out.
The LSIs and the OFWs thanked President Rodrigo Duterte and the national Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID) for allowing them to go back home.
Meanwhile, the Australian and American embassies had organized two sweeper flights to fetch their respective nationals in the Visayas back to their respective countries.
City Tourism Officer Jacqueline Antonio said the same aircraft that brought the more than 240 OFWs and LSIs here will transport the foreign nationals on the return flights to Manila.
One of the planes had a side trip to Tagbilaran, Bohol to fetch more or less 50 Australian and American nationals before flying to Manila.
Antonio said she was tasked by Dumaguete City Mayor Felipe Remollo to facilitate the trips of the foreign nationals, including their travel documents.
Veloso said these passengers were on vacation in Dumaguete and Negros Oriental for longer periods, some of them businessmen and permanent retirees but would want to visit their respective countries.
Meanwhile, the city tourism officer confirmed that around 600 Dumagueteños who were stranded in different parts of the country have registered online to go back to the city.
She said their office is in the process of making arrangements and coordination with LGUs where they are stranded for them to return home by batches, on a first-come, first-served basis provided they agree with the mandatory 14-day quarantine period in designated isolation facilities.
Under the new guidelines, the only requirement is for the LSI to present only a medical certificate from the LGU where he or she is stranded and a travel authority without necessarily undergoing a swab test.
Upon arrival, however, the LSI will have to be swabbed or undergo a rapid diagnostic test (RDT).
Another provision that was removed from among the requirements is the certificate of acceptance from the local government units concerned.
Antonio further said LSIs who prefer to stay in private hotels will have to spend for their food and accommodation at a government-designated hotel where discounts are offered.
However, for LSIs who want to stay in the isolation facility of the city, food is provided for free, she said. (PNA)

FOLLOW-UP REPORT: SkyCable Corporation's SkyFiber to migrate Converge in Dumaguete City and Negros Oriental are all set to go Fiber-ready! [#OnlyOnOneNETnews]
Tumblr media
DUMAGUETE, NEGROS ORIENTAL -- Pampanga-based Fiber internet provider 'Converge ICT Solutions Inc.' goes all set for Dumagueteños and selected provinces of Negros Oriental. On Wednesday afternoon (August 21st, 2024 -- Dumaguete local time), officials from Converge Information and Communications Technology Solutions-Negros Oriental confirmed exclusively to OneNETnews that SkyFiber internet services gradually planned for migration into their network in select areas of Dumaguete City and municipalities of Negros Oriental.
Existing SkyFiber subscribers in these areas (under SkyCable Corporation), under new partnership with Converge previously in late-July 2024 will soon experience changes in their internet service as they migrate to Converge's FiberX plan. Stephanie (not her real name), a local female representative of Converge, eligible subscribers can apply online for such migration from August 20th to September 15th, 2024. In applying, internet fiber users shall provide full details together with valid IDs and legal documents through E-Mail providers like 'GMail' (Google Mail) or 'Yahoo! Mail' through localized e-mail addresses in your region.
Converge has various FiberX speed plans, ranging from 50Mbps to 1Gbps. During this free upgrade period, as we all learned on our newsteam, installation fees shall be waived as intended for the bigger plans of 800Mbps and 1Gbps. However, lowered plans may still have potential installation fees. Existing SkyFiber subscribers who will migrate to Converge shall be entitled to promotional plans in the FiberX category. New fiber customers at Converge will not be covered for the free upgrade outside of SkyFiber or any other Fiber internet providers like PLDT (Philippine Long Distance Telephone) company.
For context… The lowest plan starts at 50Mbps worth PHP1,250; then the next one is 200Mbps (originally doubled from 100Mbps) costs PHP1,500. The rest of the plans such as 400Mbps, 500Mbps, 600Mbps and 800Mbps to be including with WiFi6 compatibility in selected plans with a promotional price from PHP2,000 to PHP3,500; all the way up to 1Gbps worth PHP7,499 (all-in-all are individually worth almost U$D23 to U$D135). Installation fees will be waived for the both plans of 800Mbps and 1Gbps worth PHP3,500 to PHP7,499; but lower plans may have a possibility for installation fees for the free upgrade, then can be opt for a staggered payment for 24 months if not fitted for your budget, and migrating for existing SkyFiber subscribers to Converge, which may be eligible for the abovementioned Converge FiberX promotional plans.
According to Converge's Stephanie, a pilot province in the Luzon area is currently undergoing migration from SkyFiber. She added that it could either be Laguna, Pampanga, or another location in Luzon like Metro Manila. Changes may then be done with the internet fiber modems after the whole Philippine archipelago, including us here in Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental -- has completed the migration process, with final announcements to be made by Converge in a flagship office of Angeles City in Pampanga: "We are totally committed to serving Dumaguete, Valencia and other areas here in Negros Oriental with our FTTH Network", assured 'Stephanie' of Converge. "Our goal, here in Negros Oriental, is to provide the people reliable, fast and affordable internet service in these regions for the better and getting it connected. Migration from SkyFiber subscribers to our Converge is currently ongoing today", concluded Stephanie.
For those having technical problems or other concerns associated with fiber internet, customers in Dumaguete City, including Negros Oriental can visit the Converge Dumaguete Office, located at the '2nd Floor, EBT Building, Poblacion 4, Rizal Boulevard, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental' or call +63919-057-2428. Converge customers can also reach the national Converge Support through their Facebook page, X Network (formerly Twitter) or download the 'GoFiber' mobile app on Google Play and Apple App stores.
Converge is awarded with Ookla with its fastest internet in the country, based from the analysis of Speedtest Intelligence data via Ookla for Q3-Q4 2023. Ookla is the global leader in mobile and broadband network intelligence, testing applications and related technologies. Almost 2.4 million, including commercial fiber partnership from SkyCable Corporation and owned by the Lopez-led national media giant 'ABS-CBN Corporation'.
As partnerships comes close for finalization, fiber internet users from soon-to-former SkyFiber subscribers can look forward to enhanced speeds, and an uplift of the general internet experience in Dumaguete City and Negros Oriental, as a whole while the migration process takes its course. Cable television on SkyCable will not being impacted.

Buglas Sidlakan Negros Oriental It's been a blessing to discover the east side of this island. The last time I was here was 19 years old, when my mom brought us on travel adventures, swimming and discovering Apo Island with our cousins. Now with my beloved, we take time to understand where we're at, exploring the Motherland with reverence together. Coming to this side of the island during a pandemic meant following strict protocols and preparing travel requirements to cross checkpoints across borders. It meant expecting that most places were closed and recovering. Like the Dumagueteños and mga Negrosanon we met, we've slowed down a lot, but the spirit of resilience keeps us all going. Grateful to see Mount Talinis from this view, and spend some time healing with the sea. الحمد لله Shot by @delosphoto Dauin, Negros Oriental, Visayas, Philippines June 2021 . . . #Philippines #Visayas #NegrosOriental #Dauin #dronephotography #delosphoto #lovejamiebx #SurvivalArts (at Negros Oriental, Philippines) https://www.instagram.com/p/CQSxL2_g0nQ/?utm_medium=tumblr
