Mopane, a leopardess from South Africa's Sabi-Sands Game Reserve enjoys a bushbuck on the @dulinilodge property. Leopards in this ecosystem enjoy arguably the highest levels of protection anywhere on planet earth. Fencelines here are so strong and electrified that leopards and other mammals struggle to leave the reserve, and people struggle to come in! For this reason prey densities are exceptionally high and leopard numbers equate to roughly 12 individuals/100 km2. Luckily this reserve is connected to the >20 000 km2 Kruger National Park, an area almost as large as Belgium or Israel. That's exactly what I found on the @dulinilodge in the Sabi-Sands western sector. This leopard had made an impala kill and taken it up a large marula tree. I photographed it feeding until suddenly it fell asleep. The poor leopard had had a long day and was constantly been mobbed by two spotted hyenas from below.
