She turns towards the onlookers, “My husband may be handsome, but keep your eyes to yourselves! I’ve heard how hussies in these parts behave. Or face the ancient and noble house of L’Anguille!” She hisses at them, despite having called them sisters not a breath ago.

Skarbrand isn't entirely sure this is a bit. As far as he's concerned, it's not far from how the Tempter really acts. He growls at her, a growl that sounds a little too real and elicits fear from more than one person who hears it. Had it not been for N'kari's earlier declaration of them apparently having a child, surely someone would've stepped in.

Well, maybe. The Reaper is a eight foot tall beast of a man, clearly of Northern Blood.

He does not have any cultists. The Reaper says, before putting two and two together. Heretics. False Idols. Khade had either installed himself somewhere or was converting fresh recruits somewhere else.

But we’re too far east to have much gaelic so they’re mostly just scrambled Scots nonsense

As I see it, for Reed destroying the world isn't just a self-made "salvation". For him it is something ✨new✨. And not acting as your God expected is so ✨refreshing✨

…And it also allows to see people at their lowest from the front seats. To make sure that they act like the ones who killed him in past regressions......to relive those painful memories. Just what a depressed, self-loathing and destructive person needs during the crisis: ✨a confirmation that there is no hope✨

although it is good sometimes to take revenge on those who wronged you.

Even without trusting in God or 7 Virtue limitations he is good person to the core, so by trying to be evil, he betrays his entire existence. Stop harming yourself, Terry :c I can’t be happy when Reed is having this sort of “fun”…

These past two days I tried to understand how being in abyss changed Terry’s outlook…

Reed refused Ai’s help without a second thought, but Terry said he will be good person out of nowhere. The part of it is because he tried the “destruction” route once, and it is the first time he can travel with Ai - new route appeared. It isn’t faraway from “saving the world” though, so I guess maybe that’s why Terry’s attitude at first was so lukewarm.

Still I think he would attempt destroying world once again. Maybe not this timeline, but surely…one “day”… He does repent what he did, but more in the sense that “this is very bad, but there is no other way”. That’s why Ai’s aid is so healing for him: not whole world want to harm him (why he forgot that Hispensyl duchery exist and only remember the countries that persecuted him???) and they can stop the harassment he receives (like he doesn’t have to let Snow Queen steal his lips, hand and eye are suffice)

thinking about reed's worldview & morality makes me feel sooo insane this guy contains such multitudes it's crazy

like i mean when you take into account all of tesilid's timelines you see him at his lowest and then get up from it and you realise that hey his lowest was pretty low but it really is so far from his default. he did commit atrocities but like it's not an inherent part of him. when he decided comitting atrocities wasn't worth it anymore he did just stop, because being evil wasn't really very important to him anyway.

my read on reed's motivation is that it's not really about him being evil and wanting to cause pain, but a desperate attempt to save himself. i don't really see all his mass murdering as him being inherently evil tbh because like. he had saved the world 8+ times and all of that reset. what is the worth of other people's lives, when any joy they experience, any pain they felt, would no longer exist except for in his memories? i think to reed, every other person becomes like a video game character. it's perhaps disturbing but the immorality of killing them is a little suspect because death and suffering doesn't even have long-term consequences for said person anyway. reed causing some massive destruction is just... morbid entertainment? reed certainly smiles (smirks) more than he ever does as tesilid. glad he's having fun(?). like everyone in the timeline is going to die anyway according to his plans, and they and anyone else who lived didn't have a future even if he did fail, so what does it matter if they died now or not.

but even after he's become uncorrupted tesilid again, it's still clear that he remains angry and vengeful. he chokes and scares the bandit leadee Just Because. The bandit leader in this timeline doesn't even know what tesilid is taking revenge for, so all that scaring is really just for tesilid's own satisfaction. Scaring the hell out of the bandit leader is important enough to tesilid that he risks ailette seeing this happen if she just turned around a little early. And in the pandora's box dungeon, he lied to the order of light pillars about having lost his memories about the sculptor's atelier, but "don't worry my memories are coming back!" There's literally no reason for him to lie in this particular way, if not to see them squirm. and he purposely leaves them with ailette, whom he knows will beat them black and blue for him. he's still going to sacrifice himself for others and put himself in danger, but he's not above some schadenfreude and taking delight in the pain of those who'd wronged him, he's not some saint.

he's still angry and vengeful but even as readers we rarely get to see this side of him, because there are things more important to him than revenge. And doesn't that say something about his capacity to love and to be good. Even after hitting the lowest of low, he still picks himself up. He cares about Ailette's safety so much and tries to get along with her family. I kind of wonder if he woke up and went yeah that "destroy everything" plan was kind of whatever let's try something else this time, and picked up his moral compass where he dropped it under the kitchen counter. his attitude to cardinal cartelyena dooming him to a really terribad punishment is really just "yah i was objectively bad so i don't even hold anything against you lol".

like. shakes him up and down. the way he decides to mass murder and then some time after goes actually you know what sorry god that wasn't very nice of me i think i'll be good this time and he genuinely means it. it's so funny he has such a range and it doesn't compromise the integrity of his character at all, his core still feels the same. do you get me. like he's always been intrinsically inclined towards doing good and he has a great deal of patience, but he can also snap and be angry and decide to just be evil but it also doesnt make his inclinations towards goodness any less real you know what i mean.

also he's so good at lying that it's funny. he's lying all the time and no one even questions it, because why would he lie? he's the pushover doormat who always sacrifices himself for others. the only way you would know that he's lying was if you already somehow knew the truth. and you sure as hell aren't getting it out of him. honesty being a virtue (generally speaking) and he doesn't have an ounce of it. and none of the people in universe would even consider it.

edit: i realised that it's not really accurate to say that destroying the world wasn't that important to reed anyway, because reed did expressedly reject ailette because he was so hell-bent on destroying the world. ah well we all have times when we hit rock bottom and he sure hit at least 500km past that. whatever, the point is that he did that and then went oh whoops let's not do that this time and genuinely meant it. what a guy. i love all the character development he goes through. and the great changes he goes through doesn't feel contrived at all.

I have couple theories about Ringabel-

Due to magic related things he’s actually from the future and somehow got flung backwards- which is how/why his journal seems to have all this future info.

- The D on the cover is either the initial to his name or or maybe the D could stand for/mean Duchery (Maybe he is/was part of it?)

Other random less likely thought I had is maybe he’s the knight that we’ve seen named Dim- since we haven’t seen his face and the first our protags met him Ringabel wasn’t around

I can't say for sure, but since the Duchy of Qi is where Kong Rong's faction is located and major factions are more likely to survive in recent Total Wars, I imagine it might be him or his heir.

i think while the second option is excellent for fluff and finally some kid action with Becky and Damian

let’s have a look at that first idea about the best spy agency absolutely living in the belief they managed to disguise themselves as dwarfs as full grown up adults. Just. So. The Ostania Kingdom and Westfalis Duchedom(???different system to show the theoretical difference between the two???)/ is on the verge of war and for political reasons the WISE decided that YEAHH we can DEFINITELY do spy stuff in the Middle of the Forest in the Semi-Middle Ages. Disguised as dwarfs. disguise made by grumpy Franky who just about having the worst hangover of his life after a hearthbreak, so noone had the heart to say that the disguise is nothing like a dwarf, and over the weeks turned months they start to believe that dwarfs actually look like them. :D i just want to see some wise family time in their whakky ways.

Nightfall was about to point out that no dwarf would look like a them, but Sylvia and Twilight was immedietly shutting her up cause give Franky a break.

so. the Wise is spying in the forest for months when the princess of the opposite kingdom just barges into their house without a problem.

once again the question is: does Anya still have her esper abilities or not.

depending on the hilarity of a panicking WISE agency and a princess needed, they come to a conclusion.

option 1, Anya is an esper: she blackmails the WISE to let them hang around whenever she wants to.

option 2, Anya is not an esper: WISE somehow escorts Anya back to the closest city (Twilight) where the Queen is frantically searching for her daughter (que Twilight Thorn Queen interaction of epic battle of a furious mother against a thought-to-be-kidnapper and then.... then Anya decides to save Twilight’s life if she can, cause he was pretty cool for the past day he was with her so it would be a pity if Maa killed him.)

plus stuff to just squeeze Daybreak and Damian in:

sooo.... Daybreak as the most eager hunter/castle guard to search for Anya but just messes up everything? or something whacky like that?

Damian is either a noble in line to be a possible fiancé candidate for Anya when the time comes, or a foreign prince so it can be a bit more of a Snow White turned generic Brother Grimm Fairy Tale AU, cause then

Franky or Daybreak or both can mess it up soooo bad.

Okay.

so. Twilight has an epic fight with the Queen of Thorns, in the meantime Daybreak is soo happy cause he found the princess, grabs her to bring her back to the castle

BUT

Nightfall was tailing Twilight and is joining on the fight to help

and Franky was dragged along and sees that someone just kidnapped the princess so tries to help and goes after Daybreak

chaos ensured Anya gets lost once again in the forest but can’t even go back to the Wise, and then she’s found by prince Damien. who is spooked and bewitched and just has no idea what the hell he’s supposed to do.

so

for Snow White-ish AU when Anya gets lost in the chaos, she falls from some high place where she falls into a coma like state, Franky finds her, brings back to Wise, Sylvia decides to keep her there trying to wake/heal her.

in the meantime Yor and Twilight in the middle of the fight realize Anya isn’t there decide on a truce and go searching together but thanks to Daybreak they go the wrong direction: cue a Twilight Nightfall Daybreak Thorn Queen banter on the go.

and prince Damian just strolls in the forest cause he’s lost as well while playing/hunting with Becky (a noble from their kingdom duchery whatever) founds the Wise hideout (Sylvia is having a silent breakdown just how awful their hideout is) and cue magic kiss that was actually uncalled for cause it was a bump on the head but oh well.

For a different fairy tale au from the forest Anya can live with Damian but never tell she’s a princess. are you familiar with this trope? mysterious bride reunited with parent at wedding/engagement? no? okay.

so Anya knows about the pending war so she’s tooo afraid to tell Damian she’s the missing princess, the crisis is huge but Sylvia is able to smooth it down (also Twilight might have a bit of a... just the tiniest influence in the Queen?) so there’s no war but the tensions are still high. Queen Yor spends all her time searching for her daughter, just so nothing happens (FoR wOrLd PeAcE) Twilight accompanies her most of the time (Nightfall and Daybreak lurking along because of personal reasons) so some bonding there, and at the same time bonding between Damian and Anya and Becky (and Anya’s new pet Bond? )

we can stretch it out for years (Nightfall or Daybreak messing up the clues accidentally or intentionally everytime Yor or Twilight gets close) or leave it for only some days fairy tale style.

ending is an effin fluff-wholesome-parody of a bunch.

so announcements are sent to Yor that prince Damian is engaged so in hopes of good faith she should attend. Twilight reassures her that it’s a good idea.

They arrive and VOILA: Anya’s there alive and well and loved. happy end

Forger Spookfest HC’s #3 - The Snow White AU

(Idk how many I’m planning to do of these, I’m just surprised at how active my brainstorming is these days)

Okay, so this one isn’t really spookish as the others, but just bear with me on this.

Princess Starlight Anya (I thought about naming her ‘Snow Anya’, but since Snow it’s about her appearance, I like to think 'Starlight’ it’s about how her eyes shine bright like starlight (@lacrow I’m looking at you and your fantasy AU with my baby Damian)) lives with her oh so scary and spooky lady of the darkness/ evil stepmother Queen Yor Briar who also happens to be a witch. But she’s not actually evil, people just think this because she’s a total badass and may or may not kill enemies with poisonous needles but that’s another story. People in the castle also gossip that surely the Queen is trying to kill the Princess considering she’s always cooking her weird things that make Anya go green. They don’t understand that Yor is just a ridiculously bad cook, but Anya knows it and tries her best to not spit it out everytime.

One day hungry Anya peeps into Yor’s lab/potion room and finds her experimenting on some odd apple pie recipe. Ugh, nope, this won’t do, she’ll find edible food somewhere else.

Anya ventures into the forest to look for tree nuts and gets lost, finally taking refuge in a secluded cottage in the woods. She ends the house’s stock of snacks and fall asleep, completely ignoring how her stepmother must be flipping her sh*t back in the castle like “WHERE THE HELL IS MY DAUGHTER”. Magic mirror Yuri doesn’t have a say on anything.

Now, this is the part where I don’t know who would be the dwarfs, so let’s pick two takes:

1 - They are several definitely-too-tall-to-be-dwarfs dwarfs (elfs then?), with pointy hats and everything, and they are basically Twilight + other WISE agents who are like. So confused at why the crown princess is at their seemingly not so secret base. Don’t know any more about it.

2 - They are kids from Eden Academy and Damian totally is Grumpy here, refusing to let this weirdo who just invaded their home stay as if it’s not a big thing. Becky is the boss so she says that Anya will stay because yep, she said so. Loid is the king coming back from the war to find his wife disheveled and crying because “I’m so sorry, Loid, I lost your daughter, I can’t cook at all, I’m such a bad mother, please don’t divorce me”. Loid is exhausted from the trip and can’t even guess why Yor was trying to cook in the first place, she’s a queen. Later he’d find out she’d do it out of her own will and the servants were too scared to be against it. Anyway, Loid leads a searching party through the kingdom, finds Anya, ground her with no second thoughts, go back to the castle, heads to the royal chambers and promptly flops into the bed face first, lowkey hoping he would get to sleep eight full hours before the East and West kingdoms went against each other’s throats again.

Then Yor wakes him up with a true love kiss The End

I think his core is still here. It’s just cracked and he tries to fill the cracks with “world and everyone here is the worst” rationalization. And with 117th Terry we see he has grown a little out of his rebellious age and is doing better…

And I think if anyone from village sacrificed themselves Reed would be “Uhhh…. ??? …what??????” but it would be something so bizarre that he was like, “What did I even expected” disappointed. Or maybe he waited for a village to sacrifice someone without poor scapegoat’s consent.

About Hearthfenris. The duchery have the strongest man in the world (Terry is also very strong if he wasn’t potato…) so it would be hard for Vatican do advances here especially if there is no church. And, while there is no church, this country won’t try run experiments on him like very atheistic Magic Republic. The way he never considered this country shows what a potato he is u_u
