Croatia's Captivating Capability!

Let's go back to where it all began, my trip to Croatia in 2022! The trip was a graduation/birthday gift from my aunt, and she and I went together to explore the different islands. It was my first time out of the country, and this was the trip that made me fall in love with traveling.

This picture was taken in Dubrovnik's old town, surrounded by defensive walls which are connected to a fortress. Known as the Dubrovnik Castle Walls, the impressive walls around Dubrovnik's Old Town serve as a permanent reminder of the city's strategic defense and rich culture. Before Croatia had its name, it was once called Ragusa. In that period, elected Rectors instead of kings presided over the city. The citizens of Ragusa committed their resources to building massive walls and creating a flourishing, independent city-state.

The walls are the pinnacle attraction for the city, garnering millions of people each year. If you are planning on visiting them on your trip to Croatia, be prepared to get your steps in! I remember walking up at least 1,000 steps, but it was absolutely worth it! I cannot recommend taking a tour of them enough, learning all of the history whilst looking at such beautiful architecture was incredible. You won't want to miss it!

Dubrovnik has to be my favorite city that I visited. Although Hvar, Korcula, Split, and Vis were all beautiful, the history and culture of Dubrovnik were extra fascinating. The people were so incredibly welcoming, and the food was excellent at every restaurant we went to as well. I am yearning to go back!

Quintessential Medieval Fortifications

Massive walls around Dubrovnik giving a commanding view of the Adriatic. The Dubrovnik fortification system of high heavy walls, battlements and towers are considered among the strongest and definitive medieval fortification systems. The intimidating walls run an uninterrupted mile and a quarter, and they were never breached until the 19th century. Today, instead of soldiers defending them, the walls host Dubrovnik residents walking, and tourists enjoying the views and history.
