Just saw someone comment that Arcane is what RWBY wishes it could be and …
Yeah, I’m sure CRWBY would have loved to have had billions of dollars at their disposal for their project.
Yeah I’m sure they would have loved to have not suffered the loss of a dear friend who they helped create the world with.
Yeah I’m sure they would’ve loved having years to work on a season instead of nine months.
But also, RWBY started out as a low budget web series that has gotten so very popular throughout its ten years that it’s gotten DC comics, two manga adaptations, anthology collections, crossover movies with the JL, an anime side story, two video games, a Japanese dub, and nine seasons (so far) of a main series.
I’d say they’re doing alright.
i have never understood this fixation people have on never being satisfied with just enjoying something, they have to use their enjoyment of that thing to shit on something else, and with animation that is always RWBY, because it's the designated target that everyone who's never watched it 'knows' is bad so they don't have to think critically about its success or how its origins might have shaped it
meanwhile I'm over here, not being a bitter, pretentious, self-involved jackwad

I want to clarify that I’m not giving up hope that things will work out in some capacity. I still want to believe that the little web show that could will find a place that will let it finish its story.
This show is so freakin popular, not only in the states but also in Japan, who not only dubbed the series but even made their own anime for it.
This show is so popular that it got a two movie crossover with the Justice League.
WB may not care about legacy or passion or creativity but they do care about money. And while I’m just some faceless voice on the internet I’d like to think WB are at least smart enough to see that RWBY is profitable. It can make them money.
My preference would be for them to also keep the writers, VAs, and music team the same. That would realistically be my most ideal scenario.
Will we get it? I don’t know. But I’m not about to doom and gloom a situation when there’s still a shot, you know.
“Blind optimism isn’t great, but no optimism means we’ve already lost. We need hope. We need to take risks.”

Do you have any site suggestions for pirating?
I use a site called wcostream.org a lot. It has everything from My Hero to Ninja Turtles to Futurama. It’s not super great on movies though, so I often just watch them on the Internet Archive
I say “pirate” but I mostly mean watching shows without paying money. The only actual pirated show I have downloaded is the first season of TMNT 2012 in Japanese dub.
But anyway here are the links. Warning though, I have the Brave web browser so I have no idea if there are adds or not. (I highly recommend using Brave, even YouTube doesn’t have adds)
Lol, I’m such a cheapskate, but I feel no remorse.

Media I’ve Experienced in 2024 (March)
Puella Magi Madoka Magica:Rebellion (8/10)-Big Cake Round Cake Right in Front of Me!
The Little Mermaid 2023 (6/10)-The singing was good besides that wack Awkwafina rap
Craig Before The Creek (8/10)-While I liked Craig of the Creek, I wouldn’t call myself a fan but this prequel was pretty fun into was the main characters were like before
Madame Web (0/10)-No reason to watch, awful effects, bland characters, boring story
Megaman X5 (7/10)-Honestly, the story was kind of stale but the gameplay was still top notch
Peacemaker (9/10)-After playing him in Mortal 1 Kombat, I loved this show. Fun characters, funny dialogue, and some pretty good fights
Megaman X6 (5/10)-Guilty pleasure, while a lot of it was annoyingly hard, I liked the virus stuff and the story
Avenue Q (9/10)-Pretty emotional musical about adulthood despite being played by muppets
Kung Fu Panda 4 (6/10)-Waaay too safe, the villain was intimidating until being defeated in 3 hits
Secrets of the Furious Five (8/10)-Pretty neat special, I liked the Furious Five from their movie screentime and the show and this helped fleshed them out
The Button of Doom (6/10)-While not as good as the movie. This is something Megamind 2 wishes it could be
South Park (8/10)-After 26 Seasons, this show is still pretty good. It has moments that make me laugh while still being shocking and there are characters I find likable to watch like Butters and Kenny
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (10/10)-Takes my favorite disk of FFVII and expands hard on it. Traversal feels freeing, the locations feel more full, and the story takes some wild turns.
Smiling Friends Season 1 (8/10)-This shows that adult cartoons don’t have to be about nihilism and can be about hope and enjoying life.
Seth MacFarlane’s Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy (3/10)-While I find Seth MacFarlane funny this didn’t do it for me. The comedy while having decent setups, is ultimately too lazy to make it funny
Megaman X7 (4/10)-Gameplay was repetitive, the voice acting was bad but hey still liked it more than X3
Megaman X8 (8/10)-The gameplay is pretty fun this time, and Lumine is a pretty good villain if they expanded her more
Megaman X:The Day of Sigma (5/10)-The animation is good don’t get me wrong but the pacing couldn’t keep me engaged
Saw (7/10)-Pretty good story about someone who wants to help people realize they want to live by putting them in death traps
Fairy Tail 100 Years Quest Manga (Currently 8/10)-My favorite anime is Fairy Tail and this sequel expands pretty well, the Dragon Gods concept is interesting, the characters are still as they were which is how I like them, and the art during fights are really well detailed
Hello Kitty Super Style (9/10)-I love Supercute Adventures and this show honestly feels like if we got a full 11 minute show.
Mortal Kombat 1995 (8/10)-Fun action and characters. Effects didn’t age the best
Grave of The Fireflies (9/10)-Really emotional movie about those suffering during war
Persona 3 Reload (10/10)-The best gameplay and presentation Persona has ever been.
Godzilla:King of Monsters (9/10)-Really cool action and monsters
King Kong:Skull Island (8/10)-Pretty good story and action
Godzilla 2014 (5/10)-Probably spoiled by how good future Monsterverse but the spectacle was kind of forgettable
Godzilla vs Kong (10/10)-Yup still as fun as I remember it
Hunter X Hunter 2011 (9/10)-As much as I want to strangle Gon the rest of the series is pretty fire
Kaguya Sama Love is War!:The First Kiss That Never Ends (9/10)-Pretty funny and emotional movie
Komi Can’t Communicate (9/10)-Fluttershy as an anime girl
My Senpai Is Annoying (8/10)-I came in wanting Kurobe, left loving Futaba and Takeda
Pokémon Mystery Dungeon:Explorers of Sky-Beyond Time and Darkness (5/10)-The dub is too goofy
OFF The RPG (Opinion Has Changed as of September) (8/10)-Originally I found the fights boring and the fact I was softlocked made it lower. That was a mistake. The story is really haunting and dark, the fights are really basic but not bad, and the locations have an eerie feeling to them
One Piece Film Z (10/10)-Z is a really intimidating villain and the action is pretty good
My Little Pony:The Manga (7/10)-Cute artwork, I wish the stories were better

Turkish resources for @phoebastria-albatrus cause it’s not all gonna fit in a comment
The Delights of Learning Turkish coursebook by Yasar Esendal Kuzucu, the main thing I used to take me from beginner to intermediate level (I can give you the pdf or epub if you want)
Easy Languages/Easy Turkish youtube channel
searching movie scenes or short videos on youtube in Turkish with subs and translation like this video and then I would study the words and grammar in it and listen to the video/audio on repeat until I understood everything. You can do this with any Turkish audio or video that has a transcript. 10/10 recommend this method it’s a really great way to study a language. Ideally as a beginner pick a video or a section of a video that is 3 minutes or less. (I studied and memorized that linked video like 4 years ago and it still gets stuck in my head sometimes lol and I’ve never forgotten the words I learned from it)
I used LingQ and Assimil for a while but you can just find any Turkish text or short stories online you wanna read and study it with Google Translate or a dictionary or a browser extension that lets you click and translate words on web pages. What I like to do (at an intermediate level) is take articles on subjects I’m interested in in Turkish and then rewrite the whole thing down in a notebook and for the words I don’t know I put the translation down in brackets after the word and sometimes highlight them so like “…burada öğrendiğim (that I learned) bir şey, ehhh dinle, bazen kötü (bad) şeyler olabilir, ve sen hiçbir şey yapamazsın…”
playing Minecraft set to Turkish, I learned words from all the inventory items like kova (bucket) and elmas kılıç (diamond sword) and merdiven (stairs)
rewatching movies you’ve already seen in English dubbed into Turkish. You don’t need subtitles if you already know what the character said in the English version and then you can just focus on listening to the Turkish dialogue instead of getting distracted by English subtitles. I usually stream Turkish movies on https://jetfilmizle.nl/
reading fanfic in Turkish, the smuttier the more motivating to get through when you have to painstakingly google translate half the words lmaoooo (and then you learn all the naughty words 😈)
Turkish learning podcasts you can find on Spotify/Apple podcasts etc. are decent when you’re bored and on a long car drive
manga/comics are a great start for reading if you’re not up to reading whole novels in Turkish yet (simple manga/webcomics are about the reading level I’m at right now). link + link + link
lemme know you want Turkish tv series or music recommendations

The Digital Transformation of DesiCinema
Tumblr media
Not long ago, catching the latest Desi film meant heading to a packed theater, dodging spoilers, and waiting months for the DVD. Today, you can stream it on your phone with subtitles in ten languages. The digital revolution has not just changed how desi cinemas is consumed—it’s reshaped how it’s made, distributed, and celebrated.
Streaming: A Game Changer
With platforms like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, ZEE5, and Hotstar making aggressive moves in South Asia, Indian cinema has entered a new era. Now, independent filmmakers from Kerala or Assam can release their films to global audiences without relying on major distributors. Films that may never have found theatrical space are getting international viewership and critical acclaim.
OTT (over-the-top) platforms have also blurred the lines between cinema and television. Long-form storytelling in web series like Sacred Games, Made in Heaven, and The Family Man has pushed writers and actors to dive deeper into characters, offering viewers something more layered than a 2-hour feature.
Diversity on the Rise
One of the most exciting effects of this digital wave is the rise in regional content. Malayalam thrillers, Marathi social dramas, and Tamil sci-fi films are now just a click away for someone sitting in Toronto or Berlin. Language is no longer a barrier, thanks to subtitles and dubbing. As a result, regional cinema is finally getting the global respect it has long deserved.
Take the Malayalam film Jallikattu, or Tamil’s Super Deluxe—both non-traditional, bold, and widely discussed outside of India. These aren’t just good Indian films; they’re great films, period.
Content Over Star Power
Gone are the days when big-budget movies with superstar leads automatically meant success. In the digital age, audiences are leaning into story-driven content. Films like Article 15, Paatal Lok, and Sir proved that compelling scripts and fresh faces can create just as much buzz—if not more—than A-lister blockbusters.
This shift is also encouraging producers to take more creative risks. Themes once considered taboo—mental health, sexuality, caste discrimination, and political critique—are now being explored openly, often with raw, realistic portrayals.
Social Media & Fandom Culture
DesiCinema fandom has gone digital too. Trailers drop on YouTube, fan theories explode on Twitter, and memes turn movie scenes into viral moments. Platforms like Instagram and Reddit have become hubs of discussion, critique, and celebration. Even actors and directors are more accessible, often interacting with fans directly.
It’s no longer just about watching a film—it’s about participating in the culture around it.
The Road Ahead
With AI, virtual production, and increasingly affordable filmmaking tools, desi ciinema is set to break even more barriers. Independent creators can now shoot on smartphones, edit at home, and reach audiences through YouTube or Vimeo. Meanwhile, the big players are exploring international collaborations, as seen with RRR and its global success.
DesiCinema isn’t just adapting to the digital age—it’s thriving in it.

behold... the classic @mybabybearcub question list...
i'm gonna list off my entire list in one day to make up for all the times i saw this and went "uhhh, i'll do this another day"
it's under the cut!
Tumblr media
favorite movie? hard pick... i like studio ghibli films a lot, and i watched them a ton growing up, but i also like bugsy malone a lot, such a whimsical movie... and of course ffvii advent children has a place in my heart... um, um, i dunno! i swear i have some more grownup movies I like but to be honest I don't indulge myself in film enough...
favorite toon? ummm lessee... thomas the tank engine doesnt count because it's the model series I like... i like homestar runner a lot! web cartoons count right? ummm i also started watching dungeon meshi and i'm fond of it... ermmmm i dunno.
yeah, i sleep with stuffies, even when not regressed. my mainstay is my sephiroth plush which is kind of a comfort object for me atp... but i've also got a nicely sized tentomon plush I snuggle a lot!!
ummm this is hard too... jerboas... bugs but especially stag beetles n rolypolies... water bear... any weird little guys tbh!
GREEN! purple as a distant second
i have friends who get up to flippyfloppy mutual babysitting antics with me?
...too many, next question.
um... nnneither. i only draw when not regressed and sometimes i even struggle to focus on coloring when regressed. so um... scribbling!
sephiroth plushie... but shoutouts to my toy i had since i was two, a handcrafted stuffie made from a sock. his name is baby but i also call him Boy and soon he will be Man
uhmmm... playdoh is more nostalgic but i do like to mess with slime ig... i don't mess with either much though.
i don't really have little gear! i have a chew stim stick tho that semi counts
um um! i like final fantasy! vii and ix! but i also like bomb rush cyberfunk! and disco elysium! and pokemon and zelda and mario and and and yeah!!!
meeting my online friend that ive wanted to meet up with for ages and we. play toys idk
does the disney store still exist? i liked it when i was real little but i dont care for disney much anymore... so bab. But they're expensive too... hrmmm
what's it to you...? (...i dont like astrology because it encourages an uncontrollable determinism and making assumptions about others instead of getting to know them!)
halloween good. i like the timing of thanksgiving (not the holiday itself, i have a deepseated hatred of colonialism) because it usually means i'll have time near my birthday off from school and work. but i like excuses to cosplay.
i usually just yap! yap yap yap! dm my buddies! yap yap yap!
showers more often but bath as a rare treat to indulge myself
whatever's easiest to eat for me or yummiest. what's "easy" food for me varies from day to day.
fall... good temps, allergies aren't bad, my birthday, crispy weather bringing in the cold after ages of hot... i can still wear shorts but i can also wear jackets
i dunno... i refuse to label it. it's too fluid and bouncy and vague. i just call myself small.
im like a chronic sibby collector, in and out of regression. i have chronic big brother syndrome. i keep becoming people's big brother figure. help. though i specifically have one friend among my bests whom of which we have dubbed each other mirror twins! like rin and len...
yes... why not both? shoutout to corn cho, a snackoo i really like... it's like the baby corn puffs almost but with a layer of chocolate ganache! yummy yummy
one of the things i take most pride in is my writing, both prose and poetry, fiction and nonfiction! but to compliment both body and mind, i like to think i'm pretty cute, i daresay
mulan. i liked belle as a kid a lot too but i also liked mulan bc i pointed and went FELLOW ASIAN and then later ended up trans so. dang i guess they did make a man outta me.
nope! not really! i put stickers on stuff but i don't seek them out actively. but i do collect pins! and i collect merch of my favorite lovely wife kuja ffix
uhmmm despite having dogs i don't see myself as a dog person and i've never really had cats. i'd prefer something less mammalian. more reptillian or an invert of some sort... BUUUUT i like rodents too. but if i had to *compare* myself to an animal... um idk what lol
i am a fellow of great range and nuance! Gimme it all!!!
iiiii love love love writing :) and video game! :)
i like listening to ff tracks that feel evocative of agere for me... but i also like whatever i like when big (which also includes ff music...). so usually for me that's some 2 mello, sea power, billy joel... lots! it all depends

Yeah the whole "supporting the official release" thing seems to be kinda a relic from a decade or more in the past - where anime was niche and fans bite the bullet just in a desperate hope to make it "big" - and now when its maybe event too big for its own good, think it jjust becomes corporate slavery, supporting sexist assholes and worker abusers - hell I doubt any of the staff that isnt high up and hence loaded already, do get any residuals - maybe dub voice actors, but I doubt if any of the grunt work animators do, but maybe I'm ignorant.
"Sexist assholes--" But enough about [insert the name of the toxic mangaka or actor of your choice].
Okay, time for me to go off on at least four tangents. (Remember when I used to just praise Soul Eater instead of getting more bitter?)
You're not wrong that it is now an outdated phrase.
And it is harder to sustain it when distribution has changed, where a streaming service can erase an entire movie or series from its web site so that you now can't buy it or watch it, depriving both audience from watching and creators from getting any money or attention for their work.
I'm trying to do my best with limited funds to try to get a lot of anime that I know will go out of print: Discotek got licenses to a ton of anime that I fear will not be on streaming, and Discotek already announced some of their home video titles were no longer in print. I mean, remember when Baccano and the first Fullmetal Alchemist were going to be out of print with Funimation doing next to nothing to bring them back, where Aniplex kept jerking the audience around with the first Fullmetal Alchemist? I just checked JustWatch.com--I can't find either one on any legal streaming service. Now Funimation, Crunchyroll, Aniplex, and Sony are all the same company--and still no Fullmetal Alchemist 2003 on streaming.
And there is so much manga and anime getting released--and either drowned out by how much art is out there competing for attention that none of them can get as big an audience as older works, so established franchises continued while really good stories either get overlooked (please read Akane-banashi and Show-ha Shoten) or cancelled way too soon (Ginka and Gluna). With My Hero Academia and Jujutsu Kaisen concluding, the former at least will persist with spinoffs, the latter is going to leave a void--but as I said, with the competition so high, what can even reach that level of popularity? And that's not even getting into how, I assume, Jujutsu Kaisen probably did not reach what Bleach reached, which didn't reach what Dragon Ball Z reached, and so on.
Supporting the official release is the right thing to do; buying the merch should be sending a message that this thing is popular and should continue so long as the creator wants it to; but if they don't make the merch, and if the merch doesn't sell as much as the company making it wants so it's not profitable, then the story doesn't have a patron to keep buying the creator to make it.
And COVID and the work we're trying to do to protect our health is all comprising what we can do as fans: I am not going to conventions, so I don't get to meet other fans, I don't get to hear firsthand from creators or meet them in autograph lines, and I'm not buying merch and art at the alley in person (although none of that stops me from buying directly from artists online).
I don't get to go out to see films in theaters--I don't get to be one of the people getting a limited distribution of a niche franchise more ticket sales, I don't get to wear a T-shirt with the characters on it at the theater or see people dressed up in cosplay. I don't get to do what I did before COVID, where a local theater would make its own unique posters for the anime film they were going to show, in order to support themselves so they could get lesser known films also distributed at that theater.
(I am curious, but not optimistic, whether Sony can support all of this, given they did announce they were looking to integrate Crunchyroll-distributed films to their new ownership of Alamo Drafthouse.)
I know animators in Japan are working their butts off to get better working conditions--I just wish I had the link in front of me for how people can help.
Meanwhile, dub actors in the United States are working their butts off to get the protections they deserve: https://www.codaunite.com. I can't speak for dub actors, but I anticipate they would point out that, no, they are not loaded, they do not get residuals. Every voice actor I have heard talk about the industry has discussed having additional work on the side--coaching, illustrating, singing, music, unrelated business--and the hustle of always auditioning without pause: it is hard work.
And that's not even getting into the damage voice acting does, especially if you are already doing an anime but your character is in this video game, so now you have to wreck your throat doing 15 different iterations of a scream.
And that's not getting into how the corporations are obsessed with AI, to fuck over actors (as well as the environment)--and, sorry, but SAG-AFTRA has not done enough in my opinion to protect its members and is far too timid to fight against what they think is the inevitably of AI.
And most of what I just said was hearing it from union actors who work in mostly United States-produced animation out of Los Angeles, not anime dub actors, not non-union actors. So, if it is that hard to find work while a union actor in US-produced animation, now imagine how difficult it is to keep getting work in dubbing when the competition for actors is high, where the locations like Texas are flat-out opposed to unions and when Sony and Crunchyroll have not done enough to support unionized actors in Texas.
And think how difficult it is when remote recording opportunities evaporated when lying fuckers pretended COVID was over. So, unless you are an actor usually based out of Los Angeles but are popular enough that of course they'll let you record remotely from your new home in Middle America, now work dries up not only to safely record from home but also dries up for actors who are not in Los Angeles, New York City, Dallas, Houston, and Vancouver. (And even then Vancouver actors want to be in more US-produced anime and can work remotely but many just are not given a chance to audition). And I am wholly ignorant about how they were trying to get dubbing done out of Miami, too, and whether that went anywhere.

In "Madame Web," Sony's ill-conceived venture into the Spider-Verse, the web of intrigue quickly unravels into a tangle of cinematic follies. The 2024 film, which aimed to ensnare audiences with the enigmatic tale of Cassandra Webb, instead traps viewers in a web of disappointment.
Let me get the "Well, duh" comments out of the way...
1) The "great power" line has now become a mangled mess of itself. The fact that it is butchered in this film, and repeated, made me facepalm so hard the guy sat behind me got hit in the face too.
2) Tahar Rahim's dialogue, was it dubbed? It looked out of sync several times in the movie, sometimes so badly lip-synched it made me look around to see if anyone else had seen the same thing?
3) BUY PEPSI. BUY PEPSI. BUY PEPSI. BUY PEPSI. BUY PEPSI. BUY PEPSI. BUY PEPSI. BUY PEPSI. BUY PEPSI. BUY PEPSI.
4) Yep - they pulled another "Rhino" a la The Amazing Spider-Man 2. The Spider-Women suit up at the end of the film in a flash-forward for all of 30 seconds. They spend the whole film building up to what the people actually want to see and then end it.
So where to begin with this muddled mess? The plot, if one can be generous enough to call it that, is an aimless meander through a series of inexplicably bizarre events that seem to serve no purpose other than to fill time. The dialogue is a trainwreck of cringe-worthy one-liners and heavy-handed exposition that bludgeons the audience with subtlety of a sledgehammer. Every character introduction is a tedious affair, with them announcing their names and purposes with the enthusiasm of a hostage reading a ransom note. This film makes Morbius look like a masterpiece.
Then there's the humor – or what passes for it in this film. The jokes are so painfully unfunny that one must wonder if they were included as some form of avant-garde anti-comedy.
Directorial decisions only exacerbate the suffering. The numerous desperate references to the wider Spider-Man universe come off as a sibling screaming for attention rather than clever nods. The references are shoehorned in with the grace of a wrecking ball, leaving fans to nurse their second-hand embarrassment.
Performances across the board are astonishingly flat. Dakota Johnson, tasked with bringing Madame Web to life, delivers her lines with all the conviction of someone reciting the phone book. The supporting cast isn’t much better, with each member seemingly in their own disjointed film – a cacophony of conflicting genres and styles that never gel.
Action sequences are so poorly choreographed and edited that one can almost hear the director's sigh of resignation. Quick cuts and shaky cam attempt to inject excitement but instead induce a sense of motion sickness. The CGI, a critical component for any superhero flick, is an abomination – it would seem the effects budget was slashed in a boardroom and never restored.
The film's attempts to be dark and edgy are undercut by its own absurdity. It tries to take itself seriously, yet it’s hard to do so when the villain’s master plan seems to have been concocted during a fever dream. There's a subplot involving the future that is so nonsensical it could be a time-travel paradox in itself.
Editing seems to have been done with a chainsaw, lurching from scene to scene with jarring inconsistency. Scenes of potential emotional weight are butchered in favor of more screen time for bewildering subplots. There's a Pepsi product placement so blatant it could be a commercial, and a premonition sequence so ludicrous it makes Madame Web’s psychic abilities seem as believable as a horoscope in a candy wrapper.
Musical choices are equally lazy and obnoxious - with the inclusion of Britney Spears' "Toxic" making the audience eye-roll.
"Madame Web" is a cinematic calamity, a film so woefully executed that it becomes a parody of itself. It's a movie that not only fails to capture the essence of its source material but also fails to provide the most basic elements of storytelling. This film doesn't swing from the heights; it trips over its own laces at the starting line. Madame Web's real precognition would have been to foresee its own critical demise and spare us all by remaining an untold story. The only saving grace is that the film eventually ends, releasing the audience from its bewildering web of woe.

Thoughts on The Bad Guys: A Very Bad Holiday Part 1
I finally got around to watching this for the first time on Christmas Day, and since then have rewatched it twice. It’s long overdue, but after my third viewing, here are my extensive thoughts on my favorite criminal gang’s newest misadventure:
(Also, stick around til the end where I go through my predictions for the special and see how many things I got right.)
Wait…hold the phone… “A Netflix SERIES”? Holy crap, did they just confirm a “Bad Guys Animated Series” for Netflix?! 🤩🤩🤩
Ok, I know this is just the opening credits and I shouldn’t take it too seriously, but how is Webs able to support the other guys’ weights without collapsing?
Also, she’s a tarantula. She shouldn’t be able to create string (Normally this wouldn’t bother me, except she explicitly states tarantulas can’t make webs in a deleted scene for the movie. Kinda makes her nickname ironic, huh?)
OMG GUYS, I think this is going to become its own series! They even put the title and credits at the bottom of the first scene as if it’s just a regular episode!
Ok, let’s go ahead and get the obvious out of the way: the animation is godawful. I understand they’re on a budget, but c’mon, was it that hard to give us some inbetweens here and there? And don’t get me started on those uncanny facial expressions. (I’ll give more specific examples on how terrible this thing is animated later on.)
The special starts with Wolf directly telling the audience that the story takes place before the Bad Guys turned good…like, he actually looks at the camera and tells us this while he’s driving in the first scene…I know one of Wolf’s abilities is breaking the fourth wall, but as far as I can tell, he can’t predict the future. Why didn’t they just do a voiceover?
Speaking of voices, I’m probably the only one who doesn’t have a problem with the new voice actors (the only one I don’t like is Tarantula’s. IDK, she just sounds off to me. Also, my reaction when I learned Snake’s voice actor played Mickey Mouse: 🤯)
They really should’ve put Shark in the seat behind Wolf instead of Piranha. The little dude is barely visible. XD
Speaking of which, what happened to their car? It looks nothing like the one they use in the movie. Do they have multiple cars or something? I mean, I guess that shouldn’t surprise me because of everything else they “own.”
And while we’re on the topic of “things looking different,” why is Wolf the only one who didn’t receive a new holiday getup?
The Bad Guys (or Webs specifically) now use the term “normies” to describe the citizens of L.A. Ok then…
Of course Piranha likes stinky cheeses 😂. My question is, why’d he try to lie about it? And more importantly, why did he not fart when he did? (They actually bring this up in the special’s novelization.)
It’s a shame we don’t get to see Diane or the chief, but at least my girl Tiffany is back 😁! Now please don’t ever have her do that ridiculous arm-waving motion again. (BTW, Lyoko Comic Dubs, if you’re reading this and need me to do more lines, hit me up 😉).
“IT’S THE BAD GUYS!!!” Um…yeah, lady. They’ve been driving around the city this whole time and weren’t trying to hide it. How are you the first one to notice them?
This special marks the first time movie-verse Snake addresses Wolf as “Wolfie.” It probably shouldn’t be a big deal to me since Webs calls him that all the time, buuuuuuut…🥰🥰🥰🥰
“That’s very not good.” Who said that? It couldn’t have been Wolf ‘cause his lips weren’t moving! 😂
Speaking of animation errors, Snake manages to teleport from the passenger seat to the back in just one shot.
“This isn’t that famous balloon everybody’s freakishly emotionally attached to, is it?” “No, no, no. This is a different giant Santa-shaped balloon.” …I adore this cynical reptile so much. 🥰
And now the Santa balloon is on fire…sure, why not?
Wow, Santa burning up is so tragic, we can even hear Lola Loud crying all the way from Michigan!
And now we get the special’s official title screen. So…what was the point of dropping its name in the beginning then?
What do you know? It turns out that wasn’t Lola Loud crying, but the same woman who warned the citizens about the Bad Guys…even though she never sounded like that before. Gal does great impressions, I gotta say!
“He was like a father to me.” What is it with “The Bad Guys” and daddy issues? XD
They canceled Christmas…because of a balloon…can’t they just…I don’t know, buy another one?
Furthermore, why do the Bad Guys feel the need to cancel their heist because of some guards? They seemed perfectly capable of bypassing security at the Golden Dolphin award ceremony. Was it against their moral standards at this point? Did they just randomly decide one day: “Eh, you know what? We’re criminals, we can do whatever we want to guards. Screw our morality.”
Piranha goes from fake sleeping on a pillow…to Shark’s arm. Animation error aside, that’s actually kind of adorable.
Good lord, that “jumping animation.” 😩 What is this, the Looney Tunes?
It’s sad that the Bad Guys’ attempt at recreating the Santa balloon is more pleasant to look at than some of the close-up shots in this special (We’ll get to those soon, trust me.)
They made a Die Hard reference…in a children’s cartoon…That. Is. Awesome! 🤩
“That guy’s a legend! He parties with ghosts and wears a dress to bed!” Methinks Piranha may be suppressing some hidden desires. 😆
In all seriousness, I would love to see the Bad Guys’ rendition of “A Christmas Carol.” But, sorry Shark ol’ buddy; as great of an actor you are, no one fits the role of Scrooge better than a certain grouchy serpent. 😊
“That sounds a lot like Robin Hood, who is notoriously good.” Spoken like a true Sir Hiss, Snakey my boy 👍. (You know what, screw the last point. I wanna see the “Bad Guys” version of Robin Hood now.)
“He ruined tights for me.” Oh, is that the reason Webs doesn’t wear pants? 😆
Maybe I’m just out of touch with reality, but why does the stereo have two slots for MP3s?
The Bad Guys explicitly state they find most Christmas things to be awful…yet Webs has a holiday playlist? 🤔
“Piranha will help Webs get to the antenna.” Why? Can’t she crawl her way up? Why does Piranha need to be there? Did they just need to give him something to do? Because if that’s the case, can’t he help Wolf and Snake deliver presents? Unless…Wolf wants some one-on-one time with his “best bud.” 🥰🥰🤫🤫
“Buddy, I don’t work with sidekicks.” Scrooge? A sidekick? This lady’s obviously never read the book. Or watched DuckTales.
Did anyone else see Snake’s face before he delivered the first present? It’s almost as if he was saying: “Only for you, Wolfie. Only for you.” 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
“What? You’ve never seen an ab before?” Why Snake, are you showing off for Wolf right now? 😉
It’s honestly adorable that these two know each other so well, they automatically guess when the other is hiding something.
Wait a minute…I’m confused. Normally, Shark’s paper-thin disguises always work no matter how minimal they are. But the second he loses just one piece of the disguise, it doesn’t work anymore? What? (In case you’re wondering, his hat falls off and even though he still has the mutton chops, he’s nearly recognized. Then later on, all he has on is a mustache and that’s enough to fool the shaved ice vendor. Again, what? 🤨)
Yes, Shark. Go ahead and keep talking into your earpiece OUT LOUD while the radio lady is beating you up. That won’t make her suspicious at all. *sigh*
I love Webs’ face after Piranha’s song.
Shark and Piranha refer to each other as “fin bros.” Not gonna lie, that’s really cute 😊.
Good thinking, Wolf. Making it snow when 3/5 of your team is cold-blooded. I can’t see this ending badly at all. 🙄
Ok, as stupid as it is, I love the interaction between Shark and the shaved ice vendor. It’s probably the funniest part of the whole thing.
Of course Wolf doesn’t listen to Webs and turns the machine up to 11 (oops, I mean 10). Again, does he not realize how fatal this could be for the others?
