Duatt Inked ref (in which I attempt to explain his Mists mutation)

For those followers that are familiar with this art I did of Duatt last year, you might recognize this guy, I’m finally expanding on how the rest of him looks. Added his in-game turnaround and some portraits as a bit of comparison for fun. Regular Mists and fractal travelers beware, lest he take an interest in you. Put all the extra character info about just what the hell he is under a cut:

- He no longer has a need to breathe and can live in a vacuum if need be. However he's cursed to be unable to properly live in the atmosphere of his once-native Tyria, requiring a breathing mask while hunting there. - Most of his internal organs are gone, forcibly purged shortly after he was banished to a far metaplane of the Mists. Semi-malleable antimatter/void energy replaced them, so most of his body is effectively hollow inside, save for where his mutated skeleton is still internal in places. His tentacles are made from this same void energy. - Save for the kilt and mask you see in the first image, the armor you see is actually part of his physiology and is more like an armored exoskeleton now. - Can matter-shift as a form of travel or "portal" through matter. This is how he makes the hop from the Mists, to Tyria and back again. Duatt, ever since his banishment nearly 200 years ago has made a longtime name for himself as being a bounty hunter that can be called similarly to a demon or some other mysterious Mists outsider (or a Cenobite). In exchange for his services as a bounty hunter he tends to ask for steep payment in the form of some powerful magic artifact or reagent such as a hefty sum of bloodstone rubies for example. He no longer eats food but he has to periodically sustain himself with fonts of magic, and for some reason anything sourced from Tyria or one of the Elder Dragons (such as a dragon minion) is what he prefers.

I am doing Drawtober, and this year it's Guild Wars 2 themed, using Pumpkinlollipop's prompts! Today's prompt is "deal with the devil". I featured @what-the-flux 's character Duatt The Bleak, a hunter and wish granter - though the price is often too steep. This is before the Mists twisted him in to something unrecognizable.

Prompt 29: quill and ink ~ here is a loose sketch of Lelauria, my armorsmith, drafting up a new design. Prompt 30: reanimated ~ Sivolgo is a lich. His soul was once trapped in a wooden doll, and thus he survived for an age most could not. He was given new flesh by making a pact with his arch nemesis Duatt The Bleak. Prompt 31: Pumpkin Lollipop ~ Inventor Xam with his hair down, enjoying a tasty Halloween treat! Happy Halloween everyone!

Sketchtember stuff from last night, my Yautja-inspired eldritch horror asura Duatt! I've had this guy since '17 but only a vague picture in my head so finally nailed down some good working visuals. Meshed mask designs from Predator and the Mist Stranger outfit for his.

I feel like I should apologize for making these wild, out-there concepts but I’m kind of past feeling guilty about it (you can’t stop me, I at least try to keep them mostly lore friendly!)

06. Ideal mate: As of this moment, best one could hope for is to be a skilled rival that entertains him enough that he wouldn’t attempt to kill outright.

07. Turn-ons: Answer to this question can be summed up in one phrase: He’s a creative sadomasochist.

08. Favorite food: He primarily eats magic, he’s especially fond of dragon minions, artifacts and legendaries.

09. Crushes: None, obviously (see Sexuality above)

10. Favorite music: He actually finds most sound to be incredibly irritating and prefers pure quietude, save for the ambience in the Mists and in some Fractals.

14. Biggest regret: Going back and enacting ambitious plans he had when he was still a warlord before he got captured and banished.

15. Best kept secrets: Before he became a Mist entity, he actually had a spouse and two kids. He was also a sometime cannibal (since moved on to consuming magic entities and items instead).

17. Worst romantic experience: A Consortium officer once attempted to woo him to get to his coffers and drugged him one night, only to find one of his ledgers was a fake. When he came to, Duatt hunted them down and murdered them.

18. Biggest insecurity: Having his voice called attention to, which sounds like a hoarse whisper and when on Tyria he gets out of breath easily (he can’t breathe without a rebreather outside the Mists).

19. Weapon of choice: He’s not picky. He prefers large bladed weapons though, especially if they can also be thrown.

20. Role Model: He did have a second-in-command when he was a mercenary warlord in Tyria that he respected and even for a time tried for self-improvement for her.

Inexorable Fate

I couldn't finish Inktober fully this year, but at least for the 31st I wanted to complete a bookend piece that I did the 1st of this month, Fundamental Truth, featuring Duatt the Bleak. Like his partner Maat, his name is a riff on the cosmology of ancient Egypt. In this case it references the Duat, the realm of the afterlife in which all dead cross through awaiting final judgement.

They're meant to be viewed together as a diptych.

"Correct. He's altered now though, twisted. He can't stay on Tyria for extensive periods anymore. The Mists got to him."

"What do you mean, "The Mists got to him?"
