kai kai info dump abt sora... if u want...
omg I WILL!!!
He's a great main character, truly. I love all his happy go lucky attitude even when what he's going through is so stressful. I mean, being taken away from your home, losing your friends, going around fighting monsters, everything he's gone through is so stressful, but he does it all with a smile. He's a comfort character of mine, he just makes you smile whenever he's around. Hell, Riku agrees with me on that.
I love his design, it's so hilariously stupid, especially in kh1. I'd say my favorite is his kh2 design though, it's so slick and I love the black with red accents. And drive forms are awesome. My favorite is probably final form, the dual wielding and the way he floats is sick. I love wisdoms colors though (that's the smash skin I normally use). Also someone pointed out to me that as the games go on his hair becomes more like a crown when viewed from above and that's cool to me.
I love it when Sora has an edge to him. When he kills Demyx he seems legitimately pissed, then Goofy dies and shit hits the fan. Watching him tick is interesting, it shows how much he values his friends. His moment in kh3 when he loses everyone but Riku is a standout, it's the first time he really breaks. Riku doesn't know what the hell to do, so he sacrifices himself. Sora looks so sad when Riku does this, genuinely terrified because now he's lost him too.
There's also something about the way he interacts with Roxas, his nobody, that makes me smile. I wish we got more of them, the "you make a good other" scene kills me every time. I could make a whole other post on Roxas alone, that poor boy.
I think Sora's strengths come from his character interactions. Even if it's just him messing around with Donald and Goofy, it's always so special. He's just special, and I think that's why so many people like him. He's this ideal kid who can make it through all this shit and come out of it smiling. He's sacrificed himself so many times for the people he loves, it's admirable.

honestly I think you are so awesome and deserve all good things in life and I appreciate your role in the community sm, like I think I'd stick around even if you posted about things I know nothing about because just seeing you on the dash makes me go "omg its isa!" (even when its discourse lmao)
What The Fuck this is so sweet!! ;^; 💚💚
Worry not, I'm not leaving QSMP yet. Even if it hurts. If Phil's done, I'll likely migrate to Fit for it. Provided he streams when Phil doesn't. 😅
And I'll be damned if this stops me from completing AMFMN. Apollo has hinted during a brief reading with him that he'll kick my ass. We NEED more Phil centric fics, it's half the reason I said fuck it we ball and started AMFMN to begin with. That goblin of a deity is INVESTED in the story. I think I'd get sunburn for eternity if I left it incomplete.
And I have a perhaps therapeutic idea to write Phil coming home to the Hardcore World via Rose after departing with the kids. I think I'm gonna go for it, even if it hurts to write and I cry during doing so. :p
I'm not sure what'll become of that QSMP AU I was cooking on but I don't think I'll discontinue that before it even begins either. Additionally, I've played with the idea of just. Continuing some kind of AU storyline post-AMFMN. Like writing stuff (headcanons or short story(s)) after the events of the fic. We'll see.
I've been miserable at worst and palpably sad at best the last 2 days, and we'll see what happens during and after Phil's stream today, but.. at least for now at this good hour of 10am, I'm feeling,, better-ish. Cautiously optimistic. I don't want to leave (and I especially don't want to lose the amazing mutuals and friends I've made 😭). I'm not going anywhere.
But if you're curious, here's some other interests you'll see here besides QSMP:
I'm a Phil main first and foremost. Even if he's done on QSMP, I watch every minute of EVERY stream. Hardcore my fucking beloved. I won't hesitate to start cooking up more hardcore Phil headcanons or a fic or AU.
After Phil, I watch Sneeg second most. I also watch Hermits/Lifers & friends, Ranboo (yes hello I love Genloss), Tubbo & a bunch of others. Like I said, Death Family's end on QSMP isn't my end in QSMP, nor MCYT. :)
I barely post abt it anymore bc it's more bitter than sweet for me, but DSMP will always hold a place in my heart. I'm always down to talk about it if asked.
D&D/Critical Role/Candela Obscura (I've been dual-wielding hyperfixations on Phil & CR this whole time, you'd be getting Phil & CR primarily if I fell out of QSMP for some reason)
Related, I plan on getting into Dimension 20 sometime and I also want to watch LA/NY By Night. TTRPG enjoyers that follow me will be getting FED.
I FUCKING LOVE DRAWFEE!!!
Anime!! Bungo Stray Dogs, JJK, Soul Eater, Apothecary Diaries, Frieren, and a bunch of others are my faves/current faves :)
I'm actually primarily an OC and roleplay person, it's my biggest special interest and I've been doing it for 12+ years. It's why I love mcrp so much. I'd probably post this stuff on @isas-oc-asylum and then reblog here if anyone was interested, idk. But I have an entire original world + country full of lore and characters I could talk about for eternity
I FUCKING LOVE HORROR PODCASTS. Magnus Archives & Protocol, Welcome to Night Vale, Old Gods of Appalachia!!
Veteran followers of me know I was originally a Jacksepticeye & Markiplier ego theorist blog before 2020! I have so many AUs of them and I love them still even though new content with them is slow. (I like Sanders Sides a decent amount too!)
I love talking about witchcraft!! I'm always down to infodump, answer questions, or gush about my goofy ass deity circle!! <3
Controversial (/s) but I love the Hazbin & Helluva series. I also love other indie series like Murder Drones, TADC and Lackadaisy!
I'm also slowly watching The Dragon Prince with friends!!
I've reblogged stuff plenty of times but I fucking love The Owl House & Gravity Falls
When will Arcane return from the war,,,, 😔 (soon)
I won't hesitate to plunge into the Monster Prom series deeper. Milo Belladonna and Damien LaVey my lomls I will get monsterfuckery on main I s2g
Basically... I'm a fuckin charcuterie board of interests!! Realistically, I'll still mainly be Phil/Sneeg/CR. But I'm always down to be abnormal about all that 👆🏻 and more.
If any of that interests anyone reading this, feel free to stick around. Or keep beating me with QSMP & Phil stuff in my asks. I'll still always be down to write headcanons and talk about fic stuff. I love qPhil too much to shut up forever.
And if it doesn't? Congrats, I'm also a massive shitposter. I have like 3 different tags for it. Feast your eyes upon how funny I am. It's like the one thing I'm confident in about myself, I'm fucking hilarious.

[Review] Star Wars: Jedi Survivor (PS5)
Tumblr media
An excellent continuation.
After Fallen Order impressed me so much, I was keen for the sequel. Even more so when I found out a friend had worked on it; from their reports, conditions at Respawn are very healthy and the three-year development went smoothly. The result is a “next episode” that is mechanically iterative, experiments a bit with the structure, and tells a satisfying new story with its cast.
Building off the now-popular template of “like Dark Souls but”, Survivor presents deliberate combat and exploration with encounters designed to test you, but with puzzles and platforming segments layered in. The new Force powers of lift and slam (working through the cardinal directions of movement after the first game’s pull and push) factor into each, while a grappling hook makes for fun traversal options. Additional combat styles include off-handing a gun—which I found too fiddly and underpowered—and my preferred combo: heavy crossguard style offset by the swift, offensive dual-wield style. Mind-tricks can now also turn a difficult multi-enemy engagement into a farcical fracas.
Tumblr media
After an opening jaunt in Coruscant, Cal crashes on Koboh, a rocky planet that’s got more going on than first meets the eye. The first game had you returning periodically to Bogano, but Koboh is much more: not just a huge map, but a hub, and a home base. This frontier planet is a site for prospector’s mines, that’s also the base of a bandit troop who have co-opted Clone Wars battle droids, plus it’s a haven for outcasts who gather in the local saloon, not to mention a focal point of scientific Jedi research from the golden era of the Republic. It’s got canyons, forests, swamps, sky-high peaks, run-down outposts and high-tech labs. This rich history gives Koboh a great sense of place, avoiding one-note single-biome planet tropes to create a world that feels real and important in a big and complex galaxy. Also, its open-world design grants a new layer of discovery and exploration beyond the intricate dungeon design (which does still exist here).
Koboh is the real star of this game (with a runner-up recognition to Rogue One’s Jedha with its smaller open-world map and ancient temples). Initially just a stop-off, Cal (now sporting a rugged and customisable stubble alongside an array of outfits) finds ancient terrors, entrancing possibilities, lots of fun nods to Star Wars ephemera, and a motley group of new friends and acquaintances. Special shout out to the queer representation; I thrilled at the non-binary character and I think almost every romantic pairing or allusion is gay, which is awesome! Returning to Greez’s cantina to check in with the patrons and gradually continue conversations as you get to know them was a great feeling, as the derelict dive gets spruced up and populated over the course of the adventure.
Tumblr media
When Survivor introduced the High Republic era as a key part of its plot in terms of legacy and flashbacks, I saw it as a cynical Disney marketing ploy. But they won me over because like everything else in the game, it’s well-developed and paid off, with engaging heroes and villains, distinctive visual design, and fun setpieces. The High Republic Jedi chambers are fun self-contained puzzle chambers like the previous game’s Zeffo stuff, and the chaotic crystals and ferrofluid of the exotic “Koboh matter” make for interesting interactions while looking damn cool.
I loved my time with this game. It’s got a strong central thrust and story, lots of fun sidequests and collectibles, and the open-world aspects aren’t overwhelming like I found Elden Ring to be. You’ve got fast travel and an excellent map with unlockable collectible markers. The battle droids are an always charismatic foe with fun dialogue and designs. The story does have some real bummer moments towards the end but cool twists as well. I’m just sad that I now have to wait a few years to see what Respawn comes up with next!

So apparently Belly Shaz (wtf) is a member of the Imperial Army or at least one of their allies, can befriend every House Leader, eat donuts with them and their worst enemy is -
Billy
Monica stole Macuil’s Saintly Weapon - but it’s a spell, since Magic Tomes don’t exist in Fodlan, she learnt one of Macuil’s exclusive spells? - Flayn is just there, 0 Rhea footage and Billy is hyped to be new OC, who dual wields bcs rule of cool, ‘s archnemesis?
The game really wants me to be interested in the rivalry between new super special awesome who can befriend everyone OC and Billy ??? Who was the Ashen Demon while not knowing how old they were, what where the 3 different countries in Fodlan or what is even the Church of Seiros?
That Billy??
I’m so not excited.
OTOH, Holst got a reveal so maybe, in some dark corner of the game, hidden under 558 coding lines and datamined but not released in the final product, we’ll have Willy.
GFDI I wasn’t playing on buying the game, nor was super interested in it with the old (fake) leaks, but from what we had there... I’m even less interested.
I hope FEH will release the Church Banner before 3 Nopes, because I honestly don’t want the Church pals to be shafted for Shaz and his “cool (tm) factor”.

I Sword to God
Summary: Midoryia goes sword shopping
Word Count: 1,827
A/N: I had a request for more Deku fics, so here we go. I do feel that this wasn’t totally Deku-centric so I am making up for it with another one shortly.
Midoryia and Tokoyami walked into the antique sword shop, the green-haired boy practically humming with excitement as his friend trailed calmly behind him. Making a beeline for the display case at the far end of the store, Midoryia practically pressed his nose into the glass.
“Wow, Tokoyami, you were right! They really do have all types! Katanas, longswords, broadswords, even swordstaffs! How can I choose?”
The bird-headed boy approached serenely. “You will know when your destined sword speaks to you.”
Deku tore his face from the glass with a confused look but before Tokoyami could explain further, he felt a tap on his shoulder. Both boys looked over to see Todoroki standing there, a cup of what appeared to be bubble tea outstretched. Behind him, Sero was waving at them, an amused grin on his face.
“Hello Todoroki. What brings you here?” asked a bemused Tokoyami.
Without a word, Todoroki pointed to the other side of the shop, where there was an assortment of anime swords and other weapons.
Midoryia’s eyes widened. “Are you here for a sword, too?”
Sero shrugged as he glanced at his friend with some amusement. “Not sure. We were on our way to the bookstore when Todoroki just sort of drifted in here.”
“Something caught my eye. Would you be so kind as to hold my tea? I believe I will need both hands.”
“I—of course, I suppose,” Tokoyami took the tea with only a slight hesitation. Todoroki bowed meekly in thanks, stating that he would return the favor before drifting over to a display of a pair of katanas, one with a black sheath and red circles, another encased in a white sheath.
Sero shook his head as he watched the dual-haired boy before turning to the other two. “So what are you guys doin’ here?”
“I’ve been really wanting a cool, antique sword like Tokoyami’s. After I started asking him a bunch of questions, he said he would come with me to help me look for the right one!” exclaimed Deku, practically bouncing out of his skin.
“I felt that I must aid you in your quest for the right sword. We must be sure the sword speaks to the darkness inside of you,” added Tokoyami, dramatically placing a fist over his heart as he bowed his head.
Not really knowing what to do with that information, Sero just sort of chuckled awkwardly as he glanced over at Todoroki again. He did a double-take when he saw his friend already had three swords in his arms. “Shoot, I need to go make sure he doesn’t buy out the whole store. You know how he can get with his dad’s credit card. But let me know what you get!”
With that, he jogged over to Todoroki, gently coaxing him to give him two of the swords.
Tokoyami and Midoryia looked at each other in confusion for a moment before shrugging it off and returning to the display case. After a while, a jian sword caught Deku’s eyes and he excitedly asked the clerk if he could see it out of the case.
While they were looking, Dark Shadow had become bored and gone over to check out what Todoroki and Sero were up to. Todoroki had found a long, black two-handed sword. The dual-haired boy hesitated for a moment before unsheathing it. The tip dropped at the unexpected weight be he soon had it raised again, staring at the blade in wonder.
“You like it?” Sero chuckled.
Todoroki just nodded as he brought the sword to his chest, hugging it tightly. Dark Shadow started excitedly encouraging him to get it, still unnoticed by his partner
Midoryia now had hold of the jian sword. Having already unsheathed it himself, his eyes sparkled as he stared at the dark blade. The pommel was a simple one, with little in the way of a hand-guard. But the balance was good and Deku could feel himself drawn to it.
“The description says that the blade is made of a metal drawn from meteorites! It says there are only so many made like this!” cried the green-haired boy excitedly.
Tokoyami approached the blade and inspected it closely. “Hmmm, yes, this is a good sword. It has a dark history, a cursed blade. Should the appropriate person wield it, it serves them well in battle. But should the wrong person dare try to use this sword, a curse will fall upon them. The darkness of the blade will begin to poison the wielder until they succumb.” He raised his beak in the air as he paused for dramatic effect, his fist held to his chest.
Midoryia listened in awe. “Wow, how did you know that? Did you look into it before coming here?”
Lowering his beak, his eyes closed, Tokoyami responded, “I felt it in my soul.”
“In other words, he made it up.” The two teenagers started at the sound of your voice, turning to look to see you grimacing at them in annoyance. “Although, his tale is similar to the legend of Dyrnwyn, except that one would burn its victims. Which that sword certainly isn’t. But if you don’t mind that sword is mine. I’ve been saving up for it for months.” You stretched out your hand for the sword in question.
Midoryia looked down at the sword in his hand and then back up at you, seemingly on the verge of tears. “But...Tokoyami said I should get the sword that speaks to me. And I can feel something special about this sword.”
You rolled your eyes. “Yeah, because it’s a fucking awesome sword. It’s made out of a rare metal that has better durability and strength than most metals on Earth. And I’ve had my eyes on it for months.”
The hero-in-training tightened his grip on the sword, becoming uncharacteristically defiant. “But I got here first. If you didn’t place an order ahead of time, then it’s still free to purchase by anybody.” Without realizing, Deku swung the sword slightly in his frustration. Tokoyami quickly dodged out of the way, and then tried to interject, asking if maybe he should hold onto the sword until this was settled.
But you weren’t having it. “Don’t you even think about it, Bird-for-Brains. I’m not letting that sword out of my sight. And you,” you continued, getting in close to Deku, shoving your finger in his chest. “I got here months ago. Excuse me for being responsible and actually attempting to save for what I want. Besides, it doesn’t even suit you; you’re more suited to a different style.”
That caught Midoryia’s attention. Placing the sword down on the display case, he pulled out his ever-present notebook, turned it to a blank page, put pen-to-paper and said, “Please explain what you mean!,” a look of determination on his face.
You were so taken aback, you didn’t even think to grab the sword for yourself. “Haaaah?”
With that, the two of you got in a heated debate, going through the different swords and the fighting styles that suited them. Midoryia took everything to heart, feverishly writing notes. Even you managed to forget why you had come here, you were so caught off guard by this strange boy.
Tokoyami watched the two of you in exasperation, occasionally trying to interject but going unnoticed. He finally gave up, shaking his feathered head; he knew how Midoryia could get once he’d reached this level. And it would seem he had met his match in you; in fact, you sort of reminded him of someone else in their class…
Deciding to see what Todoroki and Sero were up to, he turned to the pair in time to see Todoroki go to hand Dark Shadow one of the swords he’d been looking at. Panicked, Tokoyami leapt forward, yelling, “Dark Shadow, no! Not again!”
As he struggled with the shadow bird, you and Midoryia continued your heated conversation. In fact, you were so lost in the debate, neither of you noticed someone else approach the encounter and take interest in the jian sword.
Finally, you screamed, “Uuggh, enough! I’ve answered all your questions! Now, let me buy my sword.”
Deku looked like he wanted to ask another question but then relented, backing away sheepishly. “S-sorry. I’m just really interested in this.”
Rolling your eyes, you turned to the store clerk, asking after the jian sword. But to your dismay, he told you that he had just sold the sword to another interested party. You gaped at the clerk, unable to believe it at first. But then you became angry and turned to the green-haired boy who was the cause of all this.
“You!”
Midoryia shrunk back. “I-I’m sorry. Maybe another store has one like it?”
“There’s not another sword like that one anywhere near here. You owe me a sword!” you growled, getting in close to him and grabbing his arm. He tried to pull it back but you were unexpectedly strong.
“W-what are you doing?”
You took out a sharpie. “Writing my number down. You’re going to help me find another sword and we’re not going to stop until you do,” you murmured. Finished, you glared back up at him. “Meet back here next Saturday at nine in the morning. You better not fucking let that wash out.”
With that, you walked away in a huff, blushing furiously.
Midoryia stared after you, unsure if what had just happened was real. Tokoyami approached from behind him, sounding exhausted as he asked, “Did you finally come to a decision?”
“N-no but...I think I just got that girl’s number...and a date?” answered Deku, staring at what you had written on his arm. It certainly seemed like a phone number. “But she gave me a lot of great tips that I’m sure will help me find a good sword next time!”
Tokoyami dragged his hand down his face. “I am never going sword shopping with any of you again. I must return to the abyss of my room so that I may once again revel in the darkness and heal my battered soul.”
Midoryia blinked at his friend, not sure how else to respond than with a sincere apology.
At that moment, Todoroki approached, hugging a long box as he sipped on his tea. Smiling at him, Deku asked, “You look really happy Todoroki, you get a cool anime sword?”
The dual-haired boy just nodded. Sero smiled at his friend and said, “Ready to head to the bookstore and get that new manga?” Nodding again, Todoroki followed Sero out, shuffling a little as he continued to hug the box; Midoryia had a feeling he wouldn’t be letting go of it anytime soon. He smiled after his friend, glad that was happy.
Despite yourself, you couldn’t help but look back to watch the green-haired boy after you’d left and you found yourself grinning at the scene before you. You were really looking forward to Saturday.
~~~~~
A/N2: Yeah...Todo kinda stole the show here, I think...but I love him, so its okay. Also, I kind of realized that I made Reader pretty similar to Bakugo and that I may have given Deku a type...
Ideas for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order 2
I recently got the last of the trophies for Jedi: Fallen Order and while playing the game it gave me some ideas for new gameplay mechanics along with improvements to those that exist that I personally think should be in the next game, as well as a an idea for a potential plot that could be used.
Ill start off with the plot.
What if for the next game Cal and the other characters discover that the Empire have found a map to an ancient Force item/device and its up to Cal and the others to find it first before the Empire can use it for evil by following the clues on the map while dealing with other challenges along the way.
I know the plot of Fallen Order was similar to my plot suggestion, but I like the idea of a Force item/device being the focus on the game then just getting another game of the heroes fighting the Empire for the rebellion or destroying another superweapon. I got some ideas for potential items/devices that would make for an interesting plot such as an ancient chamber that is believed to enhance a force users abilities, a book containing forgotten secrets of the Sith AND Jedi back before the two groups were at odds, or the coordinates written by a Sith lord that lead to another unheard galaxy.
One thing I really liked in Fallen Order was that we got to see and learn the history of an alternate version of the Force called the “Life Wind” and how it pretty much resulted in the first Jedi and Sith so it would cool to see another example of this in the next game. Maybe in the game it could be revealed that the Force item/device the characters are looking for was made by a race who was able to use both sides of the Force as a power source, using it to make kinetic powered generators, devices powered by some force lightning. etc. and even though some specialized in the dark side they never go truly corrupted by it or got into conflict with those who like to specialize in the light side of the Force, that is until a Jedi (or something like one) came and ruined the peace causing the civilization to fall.
I also have some ideas for side plots for the game.
One is of course seeing Cal deal with falling to the dark side of the Force, I mean EVERY Jedi story makes the main Jedi character go though this at some point so it be good to do it in order get it out of the way. Same for Cere since it was already touched on in Fallen Order. Maybe Maul could have a hand in this as maybe while searching for clues for his own quest, he runs into the group on a few occasions and teaches Cal some Sith techniques in order to get an apprentice, but fails. That and of course Maul is an awesome character.
Another possible idea is a subplot where Cal and Merrin become a canon couple, and not just because they would make an interesting couple. To my knowledge, in the entirety of the Star Wars franchise Anakin, and one other Jedi I can’t name right now, have been the only Jedi to be in canon romantic relationships as others that I can think of either don’t go through with the relationship because of some reason or another like there dedication to the force/cause, never get the chance because someone dies, or it becomes non canon, so it would be interesting (and different plot wise) to see another Jedi be in a relationship, and Merrin being a Nightsister would make it even more interesting and unique then previous Star Wars couples.
Maybe there is a side plot where on one of the planets, Cal has to deal with an active battalion of battle droids who could serve a surviving separatist leader who believe that Cal is with the Empire, trying to kill him.
With the plot done, its time to go over ideas for gameplay, a lot of which I think we can all agree on.
One obvious idea for the next game is being able to fast travel to certain places on planets, as I’m sure I’m not alone when I say it was a real pain to travel back to certain places in order to get missing items and scans. What if you can do this at the mediation circles ? There is a joke in the fandom on how Jedi can use the force to move super fast so maybe this could be the method of fast traveling or as another funny method, using screen wipes like in the original trilogy ?
When it comes to combat it was really interesting getting and using a double sided lightsaber AND a split saber in the game so I think we can all agree that in the next game you should be able to acquire the ability to dual wield.
I could see dual wielding being another lightsaber mode you can switch to whenever you want, making the one sided lightsaber good for casual combat, the double bladed mode effective for groups of enemies but bad against single enemies, and dual wielding to fighting specific targets, as you can do more damage but your defenses are greatly weakened when dealing with groups of enemies and maybe it takes more Force out of your Force bar. Perhaps the skill tree for the next game should have a skill that can allow you to fight with two lightsabers for a small period of time instead of just one strike.
Also while on the topic of lightsabers, what about the idea of being able to dual wield double bladed lightsabers ? Sure that sounds like overkill but they are canon in Star Wars. Maybe that could be like the split saber feature of the game and you acquire late in the game ?
Other combat related ideas I have are Cal being able to use dark side powers like force lighting, which could work with the “Cal tempt by dark side" sub plot or being able to use a blaster, as Cere showed how powerful a blaster can be in the hands of a Jedi in Fallen Order.
Remember in the game you got to control an AT-AT and shot at Imperial troops and vehicles ? That was a fun feature and I think the next game should have more segments like that but with more variety, like being able to fly ships or use turrets, which could be possible since EA had a hand in developing the Battlefront games along with Fallen Order.
What would you like to see happen in the Fallen Order sequel ? Do you agree with any of these ideas ? If so why ?
*Disclaimer* I do not hate Pikachu if it sounds like I’m dissing Pikachu. Pikachu is one of my favorite Pokémon. Objective here is to give Pikachu’s older sibling some much needed love.
Several months ago, I came across an article by The Gamer, in my Facebook feed and the title was, “25 Awesome Things Fans Forgot About Pokemon*” (link will be at the end of this post, I have put it on Tumblr before but I don’t think the articles I post have been that popular). I thought to myself, “Well this looks interesting, I’m gonna read it.” When I got toward the end of it, I noticed a fact that just about reduced me to tears. The number one fact was simply this, Raichu Exists. Ouch. If any gen 1 Pokémon is underappreciated, its Raichu. Does the Pokémon company hate Raichu?
This instilled in me a new found love for Raichu. A few years back when XY BreakThrough came out, I bought the Burning Spark theme deck featuring Raichu because the box art was nice and I liked the artwork on the card. Now, I am trying to get two decks ready to go for Tekko that are built around Raichu. One for the standard format (Raichu GX) and one for expanded format (Raichu Break). Just trying to show Raichu some love here…anyway back to how Raichu is underappreciated and overshadowed.
Right from the get go, Raichu has been forgotten. Pikachu was made the adorable mascot of the Pokémon Franchise. The first impression you get of Raichu, is in the opening theme of the anime when Ash’s Pikachu faces off against Lt. Surge’s Raichu (which I believe has been characterized as a jerk Raichu…). So right off the bat, fans have a negative image of Raichu because he kicked Ash’s Pikachu’s butt in a fight. In the Pokémon video games (please anyone correct me if I am wrong, for I have never played the video games, I only know what I read about them), if Pikachu is your starter, it won’t evolve into it’s more powerful, older sibling Raichu. However, I have also read that if you happen to like Pikachu better than Raichu, it’s not recommended that you evolve your Pikachu until toward the end of the game for the sake of completing the dex. From an outsider who hasn’t had much experience with the games, to me that seems a little sad, because before the Light Ball, Raichu was the better pick for your team. However even if Pikachu had the **Light Ball, it does not get a speed boost, just an attack boost, so given that, Raichu is still faster. A little later, is a side-by-side comparison of their base statistics. When generation 6 dropped for Pokémon, a cool, new type of evolution was introduced to the gameplay….mega evolutions. Raichu got snubbed of a mega evolution and yet I’ve seen so many fakemon/fanart designs for a mega Raichu, that actually look pretty epic. And some of them actually look like what would have been Raichu’s older sibling, Gorochu.
That said, when generation 7 rolled around an interesting and new form for certain Pokémon (mostly gen 1 Pokémon), were Alola forms. Raichu finally gets some love? Perhaps. He did get blessed with an adorable Alolan form….with dual typing may add…electric and psychic typing. I still have yet to see an Alolan Raichu GX card and I still have yet to see Alolan Raichu printed as a psychic type. With gen 8 starters having been dropped recently, I think my wishes for that are slim to none.
This next one might be slightly out of place but let’s compare the base stats between Pikachu and Raichu. All stats directly taken from: https://veekun.com/dex/gadgets/compare_pokemon?pokemon=Pikachu&pokemon=Raichu
I recently read that the Pokémon company has made Pikachu more viable as an attacker via an item called, “Light Ball” which to my understanding is an item that only a  Pikachu can weild (to me that begs the question, why? Why can only a Pikachu wield the Light Ball?). It raises special attack and attack stats and therefore makes it slightly better than Raichu overall. At least that is my understanding of how the item works. I have also read that in Gen 3, I believe, that Pikachu beat a Raichu with Light Ball, however it doesn’t stand a chance now against Alolan Raichu. Here is the link to the WikiFandom page on the Light Ball; **  https://pokemon.fandom.com/wiki/Light_Ball
In the Pokémon tcg, Raichu has gotten the short end of the stick. And while I don’t know much about how the tcg started back in Base Set, however from about DPP on, I can tell you a bit there because I follow a lovely blog called, @pokemon-card-of-the-day   and they have done a wonderful job of shedding light on how the tcg has evolved over time….Please check their blog out, its awesome! Anyway I digress..back to Raichu. To my knowledge and understanding, I don’t think that Raichu has been part of any top cut/competitive deck until now. And for various reasons I suppose. With all the electric support running around in the current format (pun intended), and the Shining Legends Raichu GX, somebody wants my boy to win. Of course, from experience, the most viable Raichu GX deck is the Snuggly Generator variant, not Raichu x Magnezone variant (too bulky). I hope Snuggly Generator Raichu GX somehow goes to World’s this year. I really do.
Raichu to my knowledge has been printed in half or less than half (Bulbagarden article said 43 different cards I think…) of the sets that Pikachu has been released in, and yet, Raichu has had some beautiful card artwork. Several examples come to mind when I think of all the lovely artwork featuring Raichu. Base Set Raichu comes to mind, he just looks so happy. Another example is Expedition Base Set Raichu, the holo with the stars and Raichu, again looks very happy. Or how about the artwork for Raichu in the Black and White Next Destinies set? He is walking down a street with balloons looking perfectly happy…or how about a throwback to some of the first EX cards released? Raichu was fortunate enough to get 2 different EX cards with beautiful artwork. For my last, and slightly more recent example, take the Radiant Collection Raichu from the XY Generations set, it’s just plain adorable….and yet he isn’t popular. That begs the question….why? Raichu has had some awesome artwork in the tcg…so many gorgeous cards Imo.
Raichu, you are a the goodest of boi’s and deserve a ton of love! Thank you for existing. You are absolutely adorable. Thank you to something wonderful I recently discovered on Tumblr; Pokéganda blogs…I discovered two for Raichu! Thank you @raichu-propaganda and @raichupropaganda for showing Raichu some love! :)
Here is the link to Raichu’s Bulbagarden page for it’s appearances in the games, anime, manga and tcg, and just about anything else you want to know on the soft, squishy boi; https://m.bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Raichu_(Pokémon) Whoever did this Bulbagarden page, very nice job. I love the detail in it. Thank you.
Thank you to @dragonair–propaganda  for complimenting Raichu the other night, that really made my night. I absolutely adore the Pokéganda community, and follow a bunch of the blogs.
Below is the link I referenced at the beginning of this post, if anyone was interested in reading it. Thank you to anyone who took the time to read this long winded post, it has been brewing for several months, and I have put a little over a month worth of time into this.
best classes:
the secret history: the american wizarding experience and culture is completely separated from its muggle counterpart. thus, the history of wizarding america is rather divergent from the history of muggle america. the secret history is a course covering as much of the history of magical america as we know – the first half of the class concerns native american wizarding history from before the time of the european immigrants; the second half of the class focuses on history after european settlement
dry potions: due to the expansiveness of the northern american continent, transporting liquid potions is both difficult and dangerous. therefore, north american wizards have developed a special branch of potions that produces dry products. after brewing or combining ingredients, the potion is heated in an oven and allowed to bake to completion
mixed-language casting: many american wizards speak more than one language on account of their family background, and thus have developed a habit of using more than one language during casting. in order to encourage students to adopt a more varied magical repertoire, ilvermorny encourages students to study a foreign language and incorporate it into their casting
worst classes:
magical creature transfiguration: do you ever why there are so many cryptids and strange-sounding creatures roaming america? precisely because of this class. poor clueless, terrified muggles
xylomancy: divination through the study of twigs and tree branches
elective courses:
dual-wand magic: two is better than one. although most wizards only use one wand, dual-wand wielding is allowed with a license and some ilvermorny students opt to take the course for it. the class covers simultaneous casting, spell-combination, and dual-dueling
north american wizarding literature: a class covering secret wizarding writings and analysing the effect of both muggle and wizarding historical events on north american wizarding literature
extracurricular activities:
ilvermorny marching band: almost like a muggle marching band, but with a lot more fancy magic tricks like golden birds flying out of trombones and flame-throwing clarinets. it’s fucking awesome
ilvermorny trivia team: competes with trivia teams from other american wizarding academies fuck you jkr america + canada is fucking huge you can’t expect everyone to go to One Fucking School in massachusetts … i’m offended for the benjamin franklin bowl sue me but ben franks was a wizard
additional duties:
class president + valedictorian: this one is self-explanatory
student protestor: coordinates efforts with various student organisations and political interest groups in order to protest against unfair laws and policies in wizarding and muggle north american politics/government
favourite haunts:
the campus green: a large, green lawn on a gently sloping hill, with huge oaks and maples. students often lie on the grass and relax or do homework, or they’ll climb into the trees. during the winter, sledding down the green is a popular activity
the library café: a cosy café inside ilvermorny’s labyrinth of a library. serves just about anything you’d want to eat, including its world-famous berkshire brew tea, a secret recipe of ingredients that somehow makes it easier for students to relax and focus on their studies
pet: canadian lynxshort drabble:
it’s starting to get chilly. summer has just faded and autumn has come; and along with it, school. as you sit outside, enjoying the fading sun before dinnertime begins, the wind ruffles your open book, turning the pages as if it were impatient to get to the next lesson already. same, you think to yourself. the air smells smoky with magic at ilvermorny, as if a fire is just about to start; and you feel yourself warm up with that idea.
as you walk around campus, your blue and cranberry robes flapping behind you, you feel like you’re talking a stroll down wizarding history. from the very first school buildings, built by isolt sayre and her family, at the very centre of the school, architectural styles cycle forward, until it reaches the glassy, efficient twenty-first century buildings at the foot of the hill. each architectural style houses a different department, and it’s interesting to see what kind of magic corresponds to which trends in history.
many things are dynamic like that at ilvermorny – the school is always constantly changing in order to better absorb new ideas and subjects, to improve its defenses against probably attacks from muggles, to better adapt to the world. despite its deep history, ilvermorny is never in the past – it is always precisely where it wants to be in the present, and looking beyond into the future.
while many of the other schools focus on teaching the ancient arts and reciting dead languages, ilvermorny updates those practices for today. the past is wise, but wouldn’t those old mages and alchemists have preferred for us to improve upon their art? and that is ilvermorny. improvement, evolution, living, growing; magic.
Someone on Reddit was asking about keyblades:
The way I always saw it...
THIS IS ALL SPECULATION AND OH MY DAYS SO MANY SPOILERS!!
The Kingdom Key and Kingdom Key D are two unique blades the way that the x-blade was. They aren't a representation of one's heart, but constants that need to exist. This is probably because the x-blade was shattered or something. When the worlds became a realm of darkness and a realm of light, the KK was the light's half of the x-blade and the KKD was the darkness's half. They probably weren't made from the x-blade themselves, but came to exist because of the state of the universe, much the way the x-blade did.
Anyway, KK and KKD are special. They reside in their respective realms to protect it. They have their own "consciousness" as it is, where they can choose their wielders. In my head, I always thought that they wouldn't choose a wielder unless their realm was in peril. So when all the worlds start vanishing in KH1, the KK is like "woah hey what? damnit I better find myself a wielder". It found Riku - one of few already anointed with using a keyblade - and I was like "sure this kid seems legit". Then Riku went all darkness and the key was like "damnit, and I came all the way out here". But he sees Sora, who has the heart of a keyblade wielder (Ven) and is like "actually this kid might work instead". Then in Hallow Bastion it sees Riku again and is like "you're that kid!" and goes with him. Then KK is like "actually you're a dick and I like the other kid more" and goes back to Sora. And that's the story of the KK.
So then there's the KKD, chillin' in darkness like "yeah man lovin' this darkness gonna stay here forever" and then a mouse comes and picks it up. And the KKD is like "well, I mean, it's been a while since like. I've done anything. Might as well." and sticks with Mickey. But if it ever wanted to leave it probably could. Though I think the KKD and KK are both in this for the same reason: they want balance. Neither wants to see Light or Darkness consume everything. That's why KKD stays with Mickey.
So, now let's delve into keyblades as a whole. They were said to be "forged in reverence of the x-blade", which is sort of weird since the x-blade looks dumb as hell and the keyblades look pretty rad most of the time. Maybe it's like how an artist sees someone's work and thinks "ha, I could do that, but better". Anyway. "Forged" here is a pretty loose term, since hearts forge keyblades, but also like... you could just forge them out of metal, right? For the sake of simplicity and in the continuity of the franchise, let's just define "forged" as "created with one's heart". This materializes a keyblade for the use of its owner. BUT it seems like whenever the owner dies, the keyblade can continue to exist. Since you know. The graveyard. This basically defies everything I know about creating and destroying matter but whatever.
So anyway. Wielders make keyblades with strong hearts. Are they blessed or something? IMO, it seems sort of like "forging a keyblade" was pretty damn easy before the world fell apart (KHUX). Maybe this is like a defense mechanism? Kingdom Hearts is like "well shit, I see what you guys do when keyblades are dime a dozen - you start wars! So you know what. New universe, new rules. No keyblades for anybody. Except these two new ones, KKL and KKD. No more wars. Stop it." To which the very few keyblade wielders who survived the sundering were like "right, but how about we make a ceremony that lets us pass on the keyblade powers to new people, since like, we totally learned our lesson and won't start another war". So then the Ceremony came to be (which is just touching a keyblade apparently?? I think here's more to it, but I'll get to that in a minute).
So here we are in the new universe and we've got a few keys. The x-blade is broke, but that doesn't matter until it becomes an essential and awkwardly convenient plot point. The KK and KKD are newly born. And I guess No Name (Xehanort's blade in BBS and Master of Masters' blade in Back Cover) survived, because why not. And then there's the Dandelions. And that's it. All the other keyblades are inert, since their wielders are dead. So someone passes the power of the keyblades onto Eraqus, Xehanort, and Yen Sid. Hopefully this gets revealed in KH3 since we got that awesome chess scene with chubby baby Eraqus. Yen Sid trains Mickey, then retires. Xehanort trains Ven, then fucks up literally everything. Eraqus trains Terra and Aqua, then dies. So we've gone from three to four wielders in one generation, since Eraqus thinks he's special. I don't know what "retiring" means in terms of using a keyblade, but it's pretty safe to assume Yen Sid isn't going to do anything but talk for the whole franchise. Xehanort takes over Terra. So we're sitting at four wielders and six keyblades (since Terra/Xehanort each have one, and Aqua has Eraqus's).
This brings about a whole other argument. Though the wielders die (Eraqus & in theory, No Name) the keyblades retain their power. Which is sort of in conflict with the keyblade graveyard. I think this has a lot to do with intent. Eraqus had always intended his keyblade to be passed down to Aqua in case he fell. MoM had always intended No Name to move forward through time. Each served their master's purpose even after the master's demise, so... in a way, they still had the heart of their master. I think this also explains why Aqua can't summon her own keyblade anymore after the end of BBS. Her intent for her keyblade was to watch over Terra. It's still doing that, in the Chamber of Repose. Then again, maybe keyblades can't be summoned into the Realm of Darkness if they preside in the Realm of Light? Who knows.
Keeping the theme of intent, I think it has a lot to do with the Keyblade Ceremony. In every instance of the ceremony, the master intends to give the power away (Terra to Riku, for instance). So I think there's more to it than just "touching the blade". The only circumstance that defies this rule is Aqua to Kairi, but Kairi is a Princess of Heart so she can do whatever the hell she wants. So by the end of BBS, we're sitting at six (potential) keyblade wielders and eight keyblades. Cue KK and KKD, makes ten. Actually, if we want to get technical, Xehanort might have been able to summon his own keyblade before being given No Name. So maybe eleven? At this point, the original Kingdom Hearts must be pretty pissed off.
So then there's Sora. Who never had his own keyblade. Which I think is pretty cool. KK is Sora's bro after KH1, so he never really needs one. And he was never given the ceremony officially. Though it could be argued that by housing Ven's heart, it gave Sora the ability to have his own keyblade, but just the same it could be argued that once Ven's heart is gone Sora might not be able to hold a keyblade at all. (I doubt that'll be the case, but it's funny to think about.) What are we at? Seven wielders, ten (possibly 11) blades?
Sora goes all sleepy time, so Roxas steals his Kingdom Key. KK is probably like "this is Sora! Feels like Sora. Probably Sora. I wish I had a glowing blue eye so I could be sure, but hey, whatever". Xion "copies" Roxas's key, explaining the two KKs at the same time. This is probably Ven's keyblade since she's siphoning parts of Sora out of Roxas, and the KK appearance is an illusion created from copying Roxas.
Xion dies. Roxas gets her keyblade (which was Ven's). Dual wielding ass kicking ensues. Then when Sora wakes up, he can dual wield because Roxas - who is a part of him - unlocked that power for him. I think this is a really cool plot point actually, because it means when Ven gets his heart back, Sora will need to learn to manifest a keyblade of his own (not the KK) in order to dual wield again!! :D I'm all about Sora learning how to forge his own keyblade.
Let's see. Lea gets a keyblade from Yen Sid's ceremony. Bringing our total wielder count to eight: Destiny trio, Wayfinder trio, Mickey, Lea. Eleven keyblades: listed above (including KK for Sora), KKD (which means Mickey can probably dual wield), Master Defender (hopefully dual wielding Aqua in the future?!), and No Name (Terranort can officially dual wield..?).
Then keychains. Don't worry, I'm almost done. "Keychains" modify the appearance of an existing keyblade. I actually don't think keychains are actual keychains in most cases. It's just that certain memories and experiences can color your heart, changing the appearance of your keyblade. The exception to this could possibly be Oathkeeper, since Kairi actually gives Sora a charm. But I don't think he clips that thing on the end of his keyblade - I think just the memories of her and stuff bring about the transformation. Or maybe they are real keychains, but they are made when the heart remembers those memories? Because honestly, obtaining actual magical keychains seems absurd to me. This really isn't elaborated on in any way.
Importantly, however! there are no keychains on the keyblades in the Graveyard. So maybe keychains are tied to a wielder's heart, and when the wielder dies, the keyblade can be left behind but not the keychain itself. Again, there are exceptions with Master Defender (Eraqus) and No Name, since there is still intent in these blades. It's interesting to think about. Also the Keyblade of Heart (forged from the seven princesses) doesn't have a keychain. Maybe because it has no wielder? It's a combination of seven hearts, rather than one? I don't know.
ANYWAY. This was a lot longer than I wanted it to be, but I think about keyblades a lot. If anyone has anything to add or correct me on, PLEASE tell me because I LOVE TALKING ABOUT THIS STUFF!!! :D
Coldhaven - A Vampire City
Coldhaven
Aesthetics/Design: Meh
It's a pretty enough place, though it kind of ganks my FPS (there are options in the MCM to turn certain things off, though, so cool). It's light enough to not need night vision, which is good, as it's an interior cell (cave).
Many of the interior cells, however, are very dark. I blame my ENB for that, and I didn't think to temporarily turn it off to see what the lighting was like inside the shops.
However, there are places where assets are not aligned properly, leaving gaping holes here and there. Or the pieces that make up a tower aren't quite flush with each other and you can see a glimmer of light at the seams.
I do not like the curtains inside the Tower of Sovrena, at all. They're static, and given that I primarily play in third person, it's a royal pain moving through them because all I can see is the curtain until I get a ways beyond one.
Music: ???
I don't know that there is custom music for this. If there is, it faded into the background.
Story/Mechanics: Iffy
There are a handful of quests, so that's nice. None of them seem to be particularly difficult. I completed part of one without even being aware it was a quest, and had to track down the quest giver after the fact. You have to poke around for at least three of them (finding notes, I believe, so you can ask the person in question about them).
There's a sewer level (gee, thanks), and I was pleasantly surprised to see that there was a local map for it.
As to a story, though? There isn't much of a story, which brings down the overall score.
There are a few new growables to be acquired that can be used in cooking or alchemy, so that can be considered a plus.
I have a few issues.
One: You get a ring at one point that will, when worn, give you the option to teleport to a specific location. Cool. However, when you exit the location, you find yourself right the fuck on the edge of a fatal drop-off, rather than inside the stone edging around the door. Also, there's no way down unless you're a cliff scrambler like me. Removing the ring doesn't send you back (granted, I didn't try removing it while inside).
Two: I found the super secret place. Cool. There's stuff in there you can't translate (even though there's a "rosetta stone" there), and a button which doesn't seem to do anything?
Three: You find the special place, you do the research (if you can call it that), and prance off to inform the chick-in-charge. She says "awesome, I'll send so-and-so to check, and keep this on the down-low, don't talk about it, and oh, the three clan leaders want to talk to you."
Right. You speak to each of them and they all want to know the same thing. Where did so-and-so go? Well I'm not supposed to talk about it! So you play stupid. It's pretty clear you're supposed to choose which one to confide in (one clan is mages, one is thieves, one is warriors) without it being explicitly said.
Still. You're told quite clearly to keep your mouth shut. And then it wants you to do just the opposite. Not good design.
Characters: Meh
Nothing special here. I found it bizarre there are multiple beggars in Coldhaven considering there's a gold mine and plenty of growables to be harvested.
Perquisites: Pass
Nothing special, though. You do gain a house, but it's a duplicate of Breezehome for the most part.
A set of twin daggers can be acquired during one of the quests, which have an effect when dual-wielded, so cool.
One special room (found during a quest) has flasks that contain a substance which could infect you with vampirism (should you choose to enter the city as a mortal). No idea if those would work if you were a werewolf (but I doubt it).
You also gain access to Bloodglass weapons, which are on par with the ebony weapons I had in my inventory. The plus to them is they have a chance to do certain things when used, above and beyond the normal damage, so they're enchanted in a way, without being visibly enchanted. There's also a shield which has interesting effects when blocking.
There is a LAL extension for this, so you can choose to start out owning the player home here (rather than waiting for you to get it as a reward) as a vampire, or to start as a mortal adventurer visiting Coldhaven.
The End: Meh
Technically I haven't finished this yet. I have two minor quests to track down (according to the mod's FAQ page), plus choosing which clan to side with.
Still, there's really nothing outstanding about this "city".
Replayability: Meh
I would consider the mod worthwhile if only because you can trundle on in and purchase plenty of blood potions.
NB:
Mod author came up with a "clever" way to avoid having to force the player to turn on subtitles. Basically, he forces them on during conversations, then forces them off again.
That one thing pisses me off.
Mod author could have made Fuz Ro D-oh a requirement. There's plenty of mods that do because of non-voice acted mod content. But this guy veered into special snowflake territory.
Basically, after talking to anyone down there and exiting the cave, I have to save and reload, or restart entirely, to get my subtitles back. That is shitty fucking design.
GAME REVIEW: Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE
In the past few years my attention, when it comes to RPGs, has been spent primarily on Persona related titles (I blame my friend Anita for that) or Fire Emblem (I blame Smash Bros for this one). I even still have a copy of the original Persona 4 alongside my copy of Persona 3 FES and I still, on occasion, try to finish Shin Megami Tensei  IV when I have the time. So, when I heard that Nintendo and Atlus were going to have an actual crossover game involving both the Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem series, I was more than a little curious, especially given just how much different the two worlds are. Years later after the announcement, we would get the final productand it is COMPLETELY different than what I imagined, or anyone else.
Tokyo Mirage Session is, as I mentioned before, a game that combines the worlds and game mechanics of the Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem series (and, to a minor extent, Persona) Now, as far as the plot goes, it’s rather, well, unique. If you were expecting the game to take place either in a mystical medieval landscape on the verge of war or a post-apocalyptic world filled with demons and other supernatural on goings, you may not like this, as the main story takes place in…Tokyo.
…At least it’s not Detroit or Newark.
Anyway, the story feels more appropriate for a 24 episode anime than an actual game. You fill in the role of Itsuki  Aoi, a high school student who gets roped in to the world of entertainment by his friends Tsubasa and Touma when a series of attacks led by Mirages. Itsuki soon learns he has an ability to work with unique Mirages in order to combat them and from there that’s where things get interesting.  Now,  to say that the setting of the game ruffled a few feathers is a severe understatement, as the idol industry in Japan is not exactly what I would call ‘cozy’. In fact the polar opposite of this game, Atlus’ Persona 4 Dancing All Night is actually a deconstruction of the industry and certain habits. Add to the fact that a lot of fans were not really pleased with the kind of happy setting that this game has and you can see why it didn’t fare as well as other games associated with SMT or FE. This is a shame because, at its core, the battle system in this game is quite good.
Mirages in this game take the place of the normal demons that would be present in the SMT series (and yes, the “Shadows” that populate the world of Persona if you wish to link that series), and they are also how the characters from Fire Emblem figure into the story. Characters such as Chrom, Tharja and Caeda become the partners of the main characters and transform into their weapons. They can be powered up by beating Mirages and collecting their “Performa” (yes, I know, just roll with it) to either become newer weapons or power up their current form. This, in a way, eliminates the need to buy new gear, but you still will need to grind for certain enemies if you want to make new abilities, which is handled by Fire Emblem mainstay Tiki (apparently she has her own version of the Velvet Room…). Other characters from FE will make small cameos too, if you keep an eye open.  As the game progresses the cast will expand to 7, each of which have their own specialty (Touma uses mainly spears and fire based attacks, Kiria uses rods and relies on magic and ice, Elenora is your bow specialist).
Combat, by the way, is primarily a three person based affair. As I said before, the game combines the fighting systems of both SMT and FE: certain enemies will have weaknesses and strengths based on the type of magic you use, which opens them up to a combo, or “Sessions” where members of your party can get in additional attacks. This also applies to weapons to, as the Fire Emblem weapon triangle is applied here in the game. You have to exercise caution though, as the same rules apply to your team as well, and some attacks can be nullified or outright cancelled. Getting Sessions done is important, as it helps to get you extra items, money and Performa. As you get further in the game, you can also learn special abilities like Ab-Lib performances and Dual Arts that can turn the tide of battle. A lot of the combat in the game has to be planned out in advance though, as you will find that there are battles that can get real tough real quick. And this is especially true when you come across Savage enemies. These foes are always 5 levels higher than you. The good news is that they provide particularly rare items. The tradeoff though is that they are significantly stronger than normal and you WILL more likely be forced to use part of your SP bar to handle them.
And that is another thing I wanted to get into, which is the difficulty of the game. It’s pretty standard for a Atlus or FE based game, in that it will punish you if you screw up and as you go further, the bosses will be more aggressive. This will become more evident when you meet certain bosses that not only have 2 attacks per turn, but have sidekicks that you need to kill quickly before they become a nuisance. And playing the game on a higher difficulty…I suggest playing it on Normal first, just to get a feel for the game. It can sometimes feel overwhelming at first, but when you get the basics down and find a way to get the sessions down and wipe the Mirages out its very satisfying. And some of the Dual Arts you can get are quite unique. (The less said about the one used by Barry and Mamori, the better.)
The cast of TMS, like I mentioned before, feel like they belong in an anime instead of a hybrid RPG. Itsuki reminds me of a long lost cousin of Tenchi Masaki—nice guy who has no clue that certain girls have the hots for him (in short he’s kind of bland) . Touma’s the resident Sentai hero fan and hot-blooded justice guy, Elenora is like Asuka Langley Sohryu, except less bitchy, focused on Hollywood and friendly with Mamori (she too was also the subject of certain controversy due to her heritage).  Mamori is the cute preteen…who wields a freaking AXE. Let me understand this, the cutest and nicest girl in the cast is the one that wields the biggest damn weapons?! How is that logical?!! Yashiro is the mature, blunt and focused guy (or, a dick for the first few chapters you meet him) Kiria and Maiko…
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
  ARE TOTALLY AWESOME AND SEXY AND I WILL NOT TOLERATE ANYONE TALKING SMACK ABOUT THEM.
And then there is Barry…I don’t know how to quite describe Barry but when you open his side story up, you may lose some measure of respect for him…a LOT actually.
Aside from the main story, there are plenty of side stories and missions to accomplish (Much like SMT and Persona) that will help to make your main cast members stronger and open up better abilities and new  Performances and Dual Arts or get you items that can aid you. Some are routine, like collecting a certain number of Performa and some are, well, ODD. (Like rescuing a girl from the Idolspehere or giving female Mirages a love letter from a guy who really needs to get out more. One of Touma’s side missions involves wooing ladies. Lets just say it went WAY better than what happened in Persona 3) The tone of the game is the complete opposite of the SMT and FE series as I mentioned before. While there is an overall serious plot to muddle through, the game has no issue with getting into lighter moments or taking some comedic liberties, like Kiria’s reaction to a special that Maiko has cast her in.
Now, in case level grinding in this game takes too long, there is also DLC that you can get. 3 bonus dungeons can be downloaded that can help you get experience points and skill points faster or you can take on a dungeon full of nothing but Savage enemies. The caveat for these, however, is that certain items will disappear if you do not get to them fast enough and over time, the enemies in the first two WILL get stronger. And the bosses in each dungeon will outright murder you if you are under level 50. Trust me on this, these guys are no pushover, I learned it the hard way. It’s an interesting way to help you get stronger, but if you spend too much time on it, it may make the game a little less challenging so I’d recommend only doing these if you need extra money and experience.
Now, there is one OTHER thing I wanted to get into before I give my final thoughts: the censorship. Yes, this game was edited prior to its US and European release. There are certain outfits that have been either outright removed or changed. There is also a DLC pack that is not available to us either. I don’t quite understand WHY the changes had to be made, other than due to the ages of the characters of the game.I know, they are listed as 18 for the most part (with the exception of Mamori and Kiria, who is a couple of years older than the main cast members.  Is it a deal breaker though? In my opinion, no. The outfits you have are only there essentially for cosmetic purposes and make no real difference to how the battles play out, and to be quite frank, it’s no big issue for me. Yeah sure, I have seen the alternate outfits on Youtube and holy hell, they look cool and sexy but it’s not really gonna help me slay that Platinum General any faster.
Overall, this game is an unusal but interesting hybrid. The plot does play off like something I’d rather see on CrunchyRoll but the overall game itself is quite fun and can be engaging. This was a very challenging RPG to play through and it even lets you go on a Game+ run when you beat it the first time for an extra challenge. (Oh yeah, there is a hidden boss, good luck fighting THAT). If you have a Wii-U I strongly suggest you give this game a go.
Isekai has become kind of a bad word in the anime culture. I find this highly dubious because there are some excellent shows that feature the whole “In another world” motif. SAO kind of killed the entire genre with it’s ridiculous Weeb popularity, causing the market to be overly saturated, but even so, there are a few gems. Before everyone became aware of it’s cash-grabby nature, isekai was more a niche genre, producing great content, not just anime. Alice in Wonderland and Coraline are definite Isekai stories. Harry Potter is essentially an Isekai series. A kid, born with a special nature, get’s whisked away to a world full of magic and shenanignas? How much more Isekai can you get?
Kingdom Hearts is kind of an Isekai game franchise and it’s popular the world over. There’s a show airing stateside call Reveries that is getting pretty legit ratings and it’s basically a live action, A-spec, isekai series. There’s a plethora of comics and that immediately spring to mind. Booster Gold, Mile Morales, The Exiles; all of them world displaced and trying to find their way. Hell, Gwenpool, one of the most popular characters Marvel has ever created, is an Isekai protagonist, not to mention all of the refugees from the Ultimate Marvel universe. Isekai can be outstanding when you actually put effort into narrative. This genre lends itself to world building, character development, and is wide open for creative growth. I wanted to put a list together of a few shows that, i think, are worth taking  look at that happen to follow the whole “Alice in Wonderland” motif.
Overlord
Tumblr media
I wrote at length about my love for this thing a few days ago. Of all the new shows in this Isekai boom, Overlord is my favorite. It has an interesting spin on the whole “defeat the Demon Lord” motif that plagues these kinds of shows in that Ains Ool Gown IS the demon lord. He’s Skeletor if Skeletor was actually competent. The world itself is growing and expanding, giving us brand new details with every season aired but it’s the characters that make this show so endearing. They’re all so rich and developed. I love everything about this show and highly recommend checking it out.
Before SAO, there was Sign. I’m not going to spoil the plot, which is both engaging and emotional, but it’s basically the first “trapped in a game” type of narrative that really got traction here in the states. This anime was actually a companion piece to a quadrilogy of excellent, real life,PS2 games. While i’m partial to the sequel games and it’s accompanying media, .Hask//G.U., i’d be remiss not to give credit where credit is due. If you liked SAO, check out Twilight. It did it first and much, much, better.
Re:Zero - Starting Life In Another World
Rem is best girl. That’s off top. Re:Zero would easily be my favorite Isekai show, if not for Overlord. This thing is kind of incredible in terms of world building but, just like my beloved Supervisor Skeletor anime, it’s the characters in Re”Zero that sell this show. They’re all so real, so human. The main protagonist,Subaru, because of certain circumstances, has the ability to return from death and that sh*t takes a toll on him. He has seen some sh*t. He has experienced some sh*t. And while he grows in strength, it’s at a horrific cost. The emotional turmoil of these resurrections are ridiculous and you feel it in Subaru’s evolution as a protagonist.
The Familiar of Zero
Tumblr media
This one is more cutesy fun. It feels like if Harry Potter was a harem protagonist, you’d have this show. It’s not terrible, by any means, and relies heavy on sight gags and comedies but, considering it has 4 seasons, is mad popular. I haven’t watched through all of them but i did enjoy the first two and understand exactly why it’s so popular. This is another one that came out long before the boom so it has more of a richer narrative overall.
No Game No Life
Tumblr media
No Game No Life is a personal favorite. I love this goddamn show! It’s kinetic, silly, fun, and quietly brilliant. A world where all conflicts are solved with games? A dual set of protagonists who are perfect compliments to each other in strength and weakness? An absurd premise that raises stakes to genocidal levels? Bro, No Game No Life is a goddamn classic and you NEED to check this thing out at least once. It’s more than worth. Also, Jibril is best girl
The Vision of Escaflowne
Tumblr media
I kind of forget this thing is an Isekai series because of the mechs but it is. This one is more of a romance-y type of show but it’s still crazy good, It’s still worth a watch. It’s one of the first to gain popularity in the states, even if the one we originally was truncated and edited to all hell,that aired on a Saturday morning cartoon block. I think, now, Funimation has the rights so you can get a decent version, uncut, and dubbed, yo check out. I loved Escaflowne. It was emotional, beautiful, and brilliant. The content was a little heady but as an adult, i can’t recommend this one more.
Tenchi Muyo! War for Geminar
Tumblr media
Kind of in the same vein as Esclafowne, mechs over isekai so to speak, we have Tenchi Muyo! War for Geminar, one of my personal favorites. It’s actually part of the Tenchi franchise but follows another charcter like GXP. This time, we have Tenchi’s little brother, Kenshi, as he makes his way through a brand new world. Just like his big brother and friend, Sena, dude kind of develops a harem while figting to save the universe. This thing is a Tenchi show, through and through, and lord knows i’m a sucker for Tenchi, Still, bias aside, this thing is fun, beautifully animated, and choc full of action with just a hint of eechi. Also, Doll is best girl.
KonoSuba
Tumblr media
Yo, Konosuba is wildly popular and for good reason.This thing deconstructs the entire genre and gives you one of the best comedy animes in decades. It takes nothing seriously and gives you a lighthearted tale, full of absurdity and shenanigans. The characters are all awesome and their relationships always bring a smile to your face. This show is mad good and i highly recommend this one for everyone. It’s just a good ol’ time in general!
Re: Creators
Tumblr media
Re:Creators is kind of a flip on the Isekai situation. What happens when the characters from those other worlds, find their way into ours, with all of their OP abilities and powers? epic goddamn destruction, that's what! Yo, i was surprised by how much i loved this goddamn show! Definitely check this thing out.
Gate: Thus the Japanese Self-Defense Force Fought There
Tumblr media
Gate gets a lot of sh*t for being a mediocre anime overall. To be honest the community is kind of split on this one. As a cat that has been watching anime for a long ass time, i can recognize that this is  weaker entry on this this list but, i think the world building makes up for that. This thing is littered with cliche tropes; Loli Goth goddesses, tsundere Dark Elves, Dandere wizard girls, etc. but it you can look past all of the harem-y nonsense, you kind of have a pretty legit political thriller. What happens when an overwhelming, modern, military force invades a country with the technology level of medieval times? How do those carrying swords and shields defend again those wielding assault rifles and mortars? It’s actually very interesting to see. I think those questions make this show compelling enough to check out.
Tumblr media
There are a ton of others that come to mind; Saga of Tanya The Evil, Death March to the Parallel World Rhapsody, Digimon, Drifters, Now and Then, Here and There, Magic Knigh Rayearth, Log Horizron, How Not To Summon The Demon Lord; There is a ton of content t watch. It can be overwhelming but the ten i listed above, are all excellent in their own rights and give you a decent swath of what you can expect throughout the genre.
5 Final Fantasy XIV Jobs I’d Like to See
Beastmaster
Cavalier
Pistolier
Pharmacist
Shaman
Thought I’d see if I could think of some cool classes to be added into the game. Kind of like a wish list, I guess. Heavensward brought the FFXIV story north, Stormblood took us east, and I feel like these five jobs would be cool to discover out west (somewhere). I also feel like there need to be more Tanking and Healing Jobs to balance things out. With the addition of these new ones, there would be five Tanks, five Healers, and ten DPS total. Anyway, check ‘em out:
Beastmaster (BST) While Summoners use pets to deal damage and Scholars use pets to heal, I thought it’d be interesting to have a Job that uses pets to tank. Beastmasters would command an animal companion (maybe it can be like World of Warcraft and a Beastmaster can tame certain animal mobs found in the wild) and wield a whip or whipblade into battle. Normally a Beastmaster and its pet would have separate health bars, but using an ability called “Spirit Bond” (or something to that effect) would merge their HP into one shared pool. It would also reduce their damage taken and damage dealt by 20%, making it something necessary to keep active when tanking. Spirit Bond would also prevent a Beastmaster’s pet from leaving their side or engaging separate targets, improving mobility while directing bosses and avoiding AOE’s. Maybe different abilities would become available based on whether the Beastmaster or its pet currently had aggro. Beastmasters would wear heavy armor and use the abilities of their ferocious animal familiars to protect their parties.
Cavalier (CVL) The swift and noble Cavaliers are heavily-armored Tanks accustomed to unique mounted combat. Though they’d still be able to fight on their own two feet while swinging their signature weapon, the flail, activating an ability called “Mount Up” would summon their Cavalry Chocobo (or other designated Cavalier mount...maybe an actual horse?). Unlike normal mounts, the Cavalry Chocobo is suited for intense battles inside any deadly dungeons. It may not grant the same speed increase a normal chocobo would, but it would offer its rider a 20% reduction to damage taken and damage dealt essential to tanking. The Cavalry Chocobo would allow its Cavalier to charge headlong into combat and would definitely be the most mobile Tank in the game. I thought another gimmick Cavaliers could use would be in the form of battle standards - colorful, billowing flags that would grant defensive buffs and increase enmity (this thought was inspired by this artwork here). And I’m sure there are a ton of fun weaponskills to be had with something like a flail. Brigitte Lindholm, the newest Overwatch hero as of this post, was also an inspiration for the Cavalier (just imagine her on a chocobo and that’s pretty much what I’m going for here).
Pistolier (PST) Four of the DPS Jobs are melee, three are magical ranged, but only two are physical ranged. I thought I’d balance that a bit by exploring the idea of a Pistolier, a new and different gunfighter Job. Pistolier might sound too similar to the Machinist, but I’ve come up with some significant differences. Firstly, they would use dual pistols instead of the single more musket or rifle-like weapon of the Machinists. Pistoliers don’t have the turrets, gadgets, or special ammunition that Machinists employ, but they would still have many of their own tricks. I picture this Job borrowing a lot from Rogues and Gamblers, mixing gunplay with charm, wits, and daring. “Lucky Shot” would ensure the next weaponskill was a critical hit, “Fan the Hammer” would do AOE damage, and “Slots” (a recurring Gambler ability) would effect the Pistolier or his party randomly based on chance. If the Machinist is a steampunk tech-head, the Pistolier is a swashbuckling gunslinger. Think Jesse McCree or Han Solo.
Pharmacist (PMC) While I can appreciate the differences between the established Healer Jobs, I got to thinking about one that was less magic-based than the other three. Pharmacists (based on Chemists and not to be confused with Alchemists) are intended to be Disciples of War and make use of both their MP and TP to heal party members with their potions and salves. They would wield weapons (sort of) new to the Final Fantasy series - slingshots - to launch beneficial concoctions at their friends and fire damaging attacks towards their enemies. Pharmacists would spend MP to cast a spell called “Mix” and combine ingredients similarly to how Ninjas sequence mudras into Ninjutsu. When the desired mixture is prepared, they would spend TP to use a slingshot weaponskill to send it speeding towards their target of choice. I’ve also noticed that not many classes make use of the water element, so I thought maybe these potions would be stored in little water bubble balloon things.
Shaman (SHM) Another similarity I’ve noticed between the current Healer Jobs is that they’re all quite bright and sparkly. I tried to imagine a Healer that wasn’t like the others, maybe one comparable to Dark Knight or Black Mage. An “edgy healer,” if you will. I pictured Shamans like a healing combination of the Warlocks and Shamans from World of Warcraft, calling on both elemental and wicked voodoo magic. They restore health by draining the life of enemies and funneling it into their teammates instead. A Shaman’s party would stay alive thanks to blood magic and a series of “Pact” abilities. Shamans can make different Pacts with party members, offering their own HP and MP to provide them with healing and a variety of buffs. “Pact of Blood” would transfer some of the Shaman’s HP to an ally while “Pact of Revenge” would cost MP and heal the party for a percentage of their total damage dealt over a short amount of time. “Pact of Binding” could function similarly to a Dark Knight’s “Living Dead,” preventing a party member’s HP from dropping to zero so long as the Shaman remains fully healed before a time limit ends. It’d be awesome if Shamans carried skulls in place of weapons, ranging from dusty, brittle bone ones to skulls made of gold and encrusted with jewels. And I could totally see their Job Quest NPC as some kind of tribal beastman, maybe one of the Mamool Ja.
BETA Weapon impression thing for posterity more than anything else, as such it’s a readmore to avoid spam lol.
Great Sword: My poor baby. Alright, so GS got a couple new toys, namely a shoulder tackle that can interrupt most actions to skip you ahead in the “charge” order, and a third charge attack.
But honest to god it just doesn’t feel on par with the improvements made to the other weapons, and the third charge is awkward. It’s cool, it hits REALLY hard, but there was a fluent motion to the 2nd charge. The 2nd charge felt like a stronger charge attack and had that awesome (optional) sweeping slash after it landed that did THE SAME damage as the 2nd charge (resulting in big damage and good feelings for all).
The third charge is isolated from all the fluent motion of the previous 2 charges (and sweeping slash). Isolated, it feels pretty alright, but it being the 3rd charge instead of some R2+triange+circle new super move kind of ruins the flow.
The first strike of the new charge attack does pitiful damage, the second strike does UNGODLY damage. But there’s no follow up swipe and getting to the 3rd charge requires (at best) spamming shoulder tackle awkwardly until you do it and (at worst/best for damage) doing ALL 3 charges back to back WITHOUT using the 2nd charge swipe and dedicating 25 seconds to this entire endeavor.
It just feels... not great. I think if it was a new super move that you could go directly into (like wyvern fire R2+Triange+Circle) it’d feel better simply because it’s got terrible flow with the other great sword attacks.
The weapon still feels alright, but it doesn’t feel as meaty as it used to and the new charge is kind of crap. The tackle’s cool. I like having options and the tackle is basically a free fluid motion attack to skip to whatever move you want to in your combo.
Sword & Shield: HOLY COW THEY MADE SNS FEEL SO MUCH DIFFERENT WITH MINIMAL CHANGES.
So basically the charge attack where you jump back and charge a jumping slash became an ACTUAL mounting attack and propels you into the air to hit again.
Really that one new move made SNS feel so much more aerial, mobile, and devastating. It's amazing.
Dual Blades: Feels like Dual Blades. Honestly I had to look up what was new because it feels just as simple as it always has. Hit the monster, activate demon mode, use the demon mode rapid slash combo. It does a lot of elemental/status so it's good. But it feels almost exactly the same as it used to to me, and the playstyle still isn't remotely interesting to me. It's fine/good. Not for me though.
Long Sword: HOLY COW LS GOT HYPE. LS was one of my first mains, but I fell out of favor of it in 4U/Gen. The new moves are so hype though, it's nuts. I built up to red and found out you can just SPAM the new "stab and anime slash" attack like crazy for like 40 seconds.
If you do that it's a little one note-y but it just feels so darn good. And the rest of the moveset is still pretty good so having a "rush and spam" phase doesn't feel like it ruins the rest of it. LS is just so hype to use now.
Hammer: Hammer got more flashy, and the power-charge buff that changes your combos into more flashy-higher-damage combos is pretty cool too. If anything I'm just glad it got more flashy because it makes it more interesting to new hunters. Hammer, once upon a time, was my main, and I don't feel like I see as many hammers now-a-days because everyone is busy shoving charge blade and insect glaive in my face.
I'm hopeful that the new "SPINNY AIR HAMMER SLAM" and other hammer gems will entice players to play hammer some more. I certainly enjoyed playing it more.
Hunting Horn: COOL! The new hunting horn is built around making songs much easier to stack and play in a way that lets you focus on hitting the monster without coordinating your pounding with song prep. It 'feels' like it naturally pushes horn users to actually hunt instead of feeling like they need to sit in the back like a bard (Newsflash, that's not how any weapon works, please stop sitting in the back yelling "I'm the support" that's not how horn works).
It pushes you to actually hunt, which should put a small dampening on "support horn" users and instead have people play the weapon more correctly.
That's good stuff, and it's really fun to boot! I almost made it my main, so it'll probably be my main melee in World.
Lance: They upgraded the charge attack, added a super shield defensive move, and added shield-dash and triple-injection-stab which suddenly made lance RIDICULOUSLY mobile in the right hands.
Surprising that the slowest moving weapon can become so mobile in a few upgrades. It's pretty interesting to see, and pretty fun to play (though I seem to get drunk on power and start shield dash triple stabbing like mad in a reckless and dangerous way).
Pretty darn cool.
Gunlance: THEY ADDED A HEAVY COMBO INTO PILE ATTACK AND THAT'S ALL WAS NECESSARY.
I *think* the quick reload didn't use to reload the entire clip? So maybe that's an upgrade? But really the addition of a heavy combo pile attack just made gunlance feel like a DPS hose. You just pour pain out of that thing, it's amazing.
Switch Axe: Switch Axe fell out of favor with the addition of Charge Blade, so in World they made Switch Axe like 10x as flashy as it used to be.
All in all, good additions,good tweaks, and now Switch Axe feels quite a bit better than it used to.
The infinite axe slap was made easier to access (from what I remember), the sword got a buff'd up mode that comes from repeated attacks, the elemental discharge can now pseudo-mount you to the monster for bonus damage, and the sword got some super flashy combos added.
All in all SA got some nice updates that make it a lot more fun to wield.
Charge Blade: I don't care.
Okay, the new things are nice. My first hunt was garbage because it's a little unintuitive to figure out how to power up your shield/sword outside of looking it up in the hunter notes (It 'makes sense' but it feels terrible the first few times).
The new additions are neat. Specifically, I like being able to power up my sword so that sword and shield mode becomes a viable option instead of just using Axe when I can and unloading phials constantly.
It feels pretty good like this. I still harbor terrible feelings towards Charge Blade simply because it came out overtuned intially and I had to deal with hundreds of hunts with CB users who don't know what the heck they are doing but since they seem to do big damage thanks to the elemental discharges and phials they think it's fine.
It got tedious, not as tedious as dealing with inexperienced "Vault vault vault vault" IG users, but still.
I lost the thread there so tl;dr, the additions are cool, I like powering up the sword, I hope we don't have another entire game where everyone plays CB poorly and refuses to use any other weapons.
Insect Glaive: That sure is IG.
Since 'styles' aren't a thing anymore, I'm glad IG got some more identity put into it thanks to the aerial 'puff' move and self propelled combos in the air.
Now only a few weapons are actively 'aerial' and IG deserves to be the 'most' aerial. They did a good job of it. No complaints.
Light Bowgun: The bowguns as a whole just feel so much better because they've been adjusted for controllers. Shields are more valuable and useful, aiming feels great, mobility is MILES above what it used to be.
LBG specifically, it benefits from all the upgrades, but I don't really like the new mines special ammo. I really hope there are other special ammos for LBG because I really, really don't like this one.
Stop shooting, run up, plant mines, back up and continue shooting? No thanks. I know some people like them so that's great! Just really throws me off my tempo to the point where I just stopped using them.
Heavy Bowgun: HOLY COW. So it benefits from all the same things as LBG which I admit I didn't go into but here's some of it.
All ammo is loaded at once instead of needing switched out between shots, mobility is godlike even for HBG, shields work better since you can move/aim independently, aiming feels better etc.
The special ammos feel great for HBG, though the sniper shot feels undertuned compared to the gatling gun. It does amazing damage, but it feels like it can't match/outdo the gatling and it's the harder special ammo to efficiently use?
The harder to maximize ammo can't reach a point that outdoes the easier ammo? That feels off.
HBG feels so good that it's going to be my first main in World, so that should say something about it. It's worth mentioning that a lot of this comes down to all the ammo types feeling more viable than they used to be.
HBG used to be PIERCE and only PIERCE, but now it honestly feels like anything is viable and seeing gunners use a plethora of options instead of just one sounds like it might become the norm.
Bow: Feels alright, I like the new super shot a ton. Otherwise it feels pretty normal, charge a shot and follow it up with a quick shot.
I still feel like bow shouldn't be the "go-to" link between ranged and melee, LBG and HBG feel so much better to me, but of course that's opinion.
