Hi there. It's the day after Mother's Day. Can you guess what I'm here to say? It's still Mother's Day! :) Mamas everywhere are still going at it today, feeding, dressing, and supporting their children all day long. It doesn't end. All the joys and challenges. The heartwarming and pressing times. AND the heartache that comes after a baby's death, a mom's death, a child growing up and going away, or while waiting for a child that doesn't come. That heartache doesn't end also. Thank you for the love, recognition, and support yesterday. Mamas have been around since the beginning of time. And we will be here until the end of time. We are not going anywhere. I urge you to KEEP on celebrating each other and reaching out to moms everywhere. Don't go anywhere after they give birth to their baby. Don't leave a mother alone in their grief after a loved one (parent, partner, or baby)'s death. Don't go anywhere after a mom heals, physically or emotionally. Stay, we need you. my babygirl has been earthside with us 2 months today! now that she's here, i look back at my pregnancy photos in wonder. it had been HER in my belly the whole time. how i had no idea of the true blessing i was about to receive. how i didn't realize her birth would completely renew and strengthen my trust in birth as a whole. OXYTOCIN BABES! ・ @HandWavesBirth: "What is the symbol on our shirts? Oxytocin! (Thanks DTI for these awesome shirts!) Oxytocin is a hormone, known as the "love hormone" that exists in all of us because it is involved with lovemaking, fertility, labor and birth and breast/chestfeeding. There are so many benefits of having oxytocin including the fact that this hormone is usually released in large amounts during labor, intensifying contractions that open the cervix and allow the baby to pass through the birth canal. Oxytocin also stimulate the body to "let down" breastmilk as more are released when the nipples are stimulated during sucking. Oxytocin helps develop bond between the birthing person and the baby, and so much more. Oxytocin is an amazing hormone! Marching in Spirit! • one of the truest things i read today following the #WomansMarch is that we cannot stop after today. we must continue to act after we get home. i spent today thinking about what i did yesterday and will do tomorrow to continue supporting and LIVING this movement. i thought of several things, but i feel the most important and biggest thing for me is to continue working as a doula. in this work, i come to EMPOWER the birthing person, the mother, the woman before me. i work to HONOR their birth, their choice, and their body. i work to GIVE them the space to be who they are. what better way to guard and CELEBRATE their personal power, or, if it may have been taken away from them before, give it back to them... no two women experience the exact same in the birthing room; but ALL of them have rights, and ALL of them have options.
