Just as Bradford sucked in a breath, the double doors to the conference room burst open in a flurry of golden plumage and a red comb.

A snow-white tuxedo buttoned with black glowed in the dark, and a pair of long-footed dress shoes thundered past the left row of swivel chairs. The shadow of a metallic beak, with its bolts and screws bulging, passed over the heads of F.O.W.L. agents at a towering height.

Bradford grunted in surprise and protest when the footsteps came to a halt a short distance away from him. A burly hand snatched the telephone off the table, which rattled and tilted to the left after a hefty weight leaned on it.

The voice that poured into the silence was shrill, maddened, and a hairsbreadth from cracking. “When I find out which one of your agents took them, I'm bringing down your whole club!”

Steelbeak was shaking as if he had downed a six-pack of energy drinks before stomping into the fray, and his eyes held all the wildness of a rabid dog.

No answer came from the other side until Bradford wrenched the telephone out of his grasp and waved at him to step back. “Our patience is limited, von Drake.” A degree of exhaustion clung to Bradford's voice, a remnant of his grapple with Steelbeak that he concealed by clasping his hands together and straightening his posture.

A blip of static preceded the sigh of Ludwig. “So is ours, Bradford. So is ours.”

Don Karnage gripped the edge of the table and pushed himself from his seat, standing tall as the chair squeaked backwards. The blade of a cutlass rang like a snake hissing as it was unsheathed and thrust towards the shadowed ceiling.

“Let it not be said that we stood idly by while our dear companion fell into the clutches of our mortal enemy!” He outstretched his free arm and clutched the air as if holding his heart in the palm of his hand, and his eyes, narrowed and full of passion, rose to the darkness looming overhead.

Further down the table, a fist pounded the wood twice. “Hear, hear!” shouted Rockerduck, the fabric of his gloves stretching as he curled his fingers into a tighter ball. The outline of his knuckles was prominent in the silk, and he wore the look of indignation as though it was a second coat.

“I say we hog-tie this agent, string them up, and let the hangman deal with them.” There was no playfulness or wanton hostility to his voice, just the steady and concise command of a fat cat quelling the rebellion.

Bradford turned his attention to the vanilla folder lying open below his hooked beak, its contents having been spilt across his corner of the table. He shuffled the documents into a neat pile and eyed the top paper's list of the last known residences of various S.H.U.S.H. agents.

“As you well know,” he spoke into the telephone, choosing his words with care. “This is a sensitive matter.” Bradford allowed a brief pause in anticipation of another outburst, this one in agreement with his statement. “I see no reason why it needs to live beyond this call.”

Ludwig's voice came back faintly distorted by static. “I disagree, dear Bradford.”

There existed a distinct amusement in his words that drew a grumble from Bradford, his yellow eyes gleaming in the dimly lit room.

“You see, we've grown quite fond of our new friend.”

A growl was building in the throat of Steelbeak, rising higher and gaining ferocity with each splinter in the wood that came from his squeezing the side of the table. He had one hand on the surface, fingers splayed and ready to help propel him to his feet.

Beside him, Gandra sat typing away on a laptop computer. The brilliant light of the screen shone only for her, and her eyes had not strayed from it since the moment her fingers started to fly from place to place on the keyboard minutes ago.

It was when Bradford looked in her direction that Gandra finally glanced up. “I've got a trace on the call,” she muttered, keeping her voice down and her fingers moving.

Favorite season and character for DT 17 ask

I have to give to the fav season credit to either season 2 or 3! They’re both great but season 3 used the potential it was able to gain but it also missed a ton of potential as well. I wish it could’ve had just a few more episodes to tie up plenty of plot holes left in the season.

For example we could’ve seen more of the Darkwing fam (LP, Drake and Gosalyn) instead of the 2-3 episodes they got together in the season as a team, they could’ve went more into finding Gos’ grandfather like it was set up to be and we could’ve got the family dynamic we got in the original DW show.

We also could’ve seen more of Gyro, Fenton and Boyd and how they got to grow as characters after Season 3 episode 7, and even have a more of a bond between the three but especially of Gyro and Boyd, seeing how Gyro grows after that episode stated he has avoided Boyd for 20 years and I want to see the strain and growth that could’ve came along with it!

And the growth between Gyro and Fenton, we got fanfics for that/hj. But seriously there was a chance to make this happen, all the way back from season 2 post Gandra’s introduction episode.

And favorite character? I’ve got to give that credit to Drake, Scrooge and Huey. I find them very relatable and I really like their character and what the show brough to them was very impressive!

Favorite episode and side character for DT ask

Oooh favorite episodes are hard. Always changing. I love certain ones for different reasons and it can depend on how I am or where I am in life. For now I’ll say Whatever Happened to Della Duck?! Great introduction to the character that still makes me cry

I LOVE the side characters of DuckTales. It’s hard to pick; I could easily say Fenton and Gandra since they are side characters and my faves but I’m giving myself a rule not to pick them

I’ll go with Launchpad McQuack!

Re: Your last post - Another thing that bothered me in DT17 was that Fenton was suddenly part of Team Darkwing. He seems like yet another sidekick of DW's, which makes Launchpad feel less special.

Thanks for the ask! This is a spectacular point that made me want to organize my thoughts. ♡

DT17 skewed nearly all the characters by making so many unnecessary changes and switcheroos.

Fenton in DT '87 was a poor man who had an amazing knack for counting and a wholly unmatched weird zest for life. His mom was a single mother who was depressed and left by a verbally (at least) abusive man. Fenton accidentally steals the suit, and then proceeds to roll with this opportunity to be somebody! He learns to be a hero on the go. He makes believable mistakes, like accidentally dropping the manual in a villain's car and forgetting about it because he outsmarted them at the moment.

Fenton '17 is none of the above. He's someone who wants to make a change for the greater good and calmly does things the proper way, like reading the Gizmo suit instructions and practicing them in secret. This cautious sensibility is then forgotten and he posts vital details about the suit online, because plot needs to happen.

While a reboot pretty much guarantees that characters will be different since writers, artists and the time period is different, the extent to which DT17 swapped backstories and generally made characters interchangeable is... pretty infuriating, lol.

Fenton is a hero who vies for change but is unsure on how to do so and was inspired by Launchpad.

The variety of characters in the slice of life duck show with magical elements is gone!

They tried to sprinkle in dustings of the old personalities, but it's just not believable. Drake Mallard is completely smoothed out (metaphorically and literally), but then they insert his self-absorbed tendencies at random times.

OG Fenton and Drake's bond was impeccable. The writers really played around with the hilarities of having alter-egos and having to deal with each other civilly and heroically. They weren't really 'friends' in either stage. It makes sense, because at their core, Darkwing can't get along with a big-name hero because of his jealousy, and Drake can't get along with a loud, uncouth guy who was suddenly invited by Launchpad to stay over.

DT17 has the awkward "friends as civvies, one-sided rivalry as heroes." It's so weird to see Drake be positive with Fenton and then be either oblivious or delusional (depending on your interpretation) about Gizmo for no reason.

What they should have done is keep the stories separated. (This now brings up another flaw-- the kids being included in everybody else's story arc.)

Fenton becomes Gizmo on his own, and deals with his obstacles that lead to the heroic lugnut we all know and love.

Launchpad's interest in Darkwing should have been unique, and not just regarding an old fictional show. We should have been able to see LP's process of building the Thunderquack, and the gradual process of him moving to St. Canard.

Then you can have Gizmo and Darkwing meet later, and gradually show us how they fall into the role of heroic rivals! The fact that this series wasn't episodic like the old one was an edge it did not take advantage of.

Ducktales 2017 had the bad habit of including an element and not elaborating on how it began except for pointing over to the original series. Being Meta =/= Storytelling. Listing tropes and describing them in-universe is not being clever.

I'm so disappointed that it fell so short of what it could have been by trying to do so much at once.

She’s not really comfortable in dresses, but Daisy made it for her to wear to this special function, and even Gandra doesn’t really want to be rude. Especially not when she’s trying to make a good impression.

And we all know Fenton certainly approves.
