m. thoughts on social media and how it's effected our culture?

Culturally speaking, I think it's a great thing! Social media does a lot in terms of moving centers of power praxis surrounding cultural concepts like gender, sexuality, and race away from their previous locations in the hands of popular media and politics into the hands of more grassroots movements and individuals. It allows people to engage in discourse without having that discourse either be completely private and hidden from public view or mediated by things like news media and Hollywood.

On an interpersonal level, I think that it's both good and bad. Social media exposes people to parts of each other's private lives that we wouldn't have been privy to in previous generations which can sort of create a false dichotomy in a sense of "other people are having fun, why am I not having fun" that can feed into social anxiety and self-esteem issues. It does make it a lot more difficult to disengage from these thoughts when the activities your friends engage in are readily visible to you pretty much 24/7. But on the other hand, it does bring down a lot of boundaries in terms of finding like minded individual who have shared interests and establishing friendships even if you're halfway across the world from each other.

n. what do you feel very strongly about?

Really broadly put, "culture." I'm a post-modern hipster trash girl with a polisci degree so I just. Have a lot of feelings about multicultural exchange, the political machine, the way that cultural constructs influence the ways that we perceive and think about the world as well as where the power of defining these constructs lives within a society and how people can move to change culturally codified ideologies. Part of this comes out in how I feel about localization and language, though. Which. you can kind of see by my blog...
