I seriously cannot get over how vivid the descriptions of thirst were. The sheer desperation of the characters and the genuine discomfort it evoked in me was incredible. I’ve thought about this book nearly every day for three months, every time I’m thirsty or I see water. I looked outside of my window at a pond this morning, and all I thought about was Jacqui. I learned that my school’s science lab has distilled water and marked it as a spot that could be useful even though I live in Minnesota.

That’s just one aspect. That’s not even mentioning the sense of community or the degradation of humanity, the flip of a coin that will determine yourself. Chastity sticks with me, and I think I will always be justified in never buying windshield wiper fluid again.

This book is criminally underrated.
