Objects in Motion
Part 2
Alpha!Billy Russo x Omega! Reader
Part 1 here
Tumblr media
You’re deep in sleep when a loud bang wakes you.
Bolting up with a gasp, your heart pounds in your chest for a few minutes. You’re not sure what the noise was- a door slamming shut, or maybe something falling in the apartment above you, but the echo of it in your head keeps you awake for a while, hating that your anxiety doesn’t let you sleep.
.
You go to another dry cleaners, you do your best to avoid going out. You go to work, and back home for a couple of weeks, worried that someone will find you and scold you for what you’ve done.
You think about being scolded by him, you doubt you’d be able to last a moment in his presence.
After you’d ensured the safe delivery of the coat, did you finally research the owner.
William Russo, his stoic, borderline angry expression staring back at you through your computer screen had only made you aroused all over again.
This, this was the Alpha with a scent so magnetic, you couldn’t resist it.
He was rich, a CEO, and you could only look around your threadbare apartment and sigh sadly, there was nothing you could offer him that would interest him.
So, you try to move on with your life, work hard so you can afford to buy alleviators for your next heat, and stay away from alphas that would no doubt hurt you.
The art museum was a big comfort. On a Friday evening, when it was at its emptiest, you’d go in, and stare at all the paintings. You’d study the brushstrokes till your eyes burned, items like Starry Night, and Street Light were beautiful works that always made you dare to dream of a life better than the one you were in. Today however, The Lovers was the one that kept you most occupied.
Two people, with white cloths over their heads as they lean into each other, kissing.  Hidden from each other’s sight, you wonder if the painting only holds its romance because of the seemingly anonymity of the subjects. If the mystery was removed, would there be more love, or less?
It was kind of how you felt right now, pained, searching for something that you weren’t familiar with. An alpha, to call your own.
None of the alphas you’d met had ever been right for you. There was an entitlement written into them, the belief that your station was lesser, so you were supposed to submit. Alphas constantly lived with that air of superiority surrounding them, and they were easily upset when you did not give them what they wanted.
The alphas you dated were wrong to think that submission was something freely given, in reality, it had to be earned.
You wondered if the alpha on your mind would ask nicely.
Probably not. It was a good thing he existed only in your fantasies.
.
Your omega privilege means you get to stay a little after closing. You smile gratefully in the security guard’s direction when he comes to escort you out.
“We’ve got a new piece coming in tomorrow. You won’t be able to stay late anymore, but I’m sure you’ll like it.”
You smile in delight.
“Do you know which one it is?” You ask.
“Not really, not much of an art guy, but it’s a big deal, really expensive.”
You nod, enthusiastically.
“Well, I can’t wait.” You reply, wishing the beta a good night when you finally reach the exit, pulling your jacket tighter around you to protect from the cold.
.
Not for the first time in his life, he feels the loneliness.
It’s only that he’s never felt it quite like this. Usually, people just didn’t want him, his mother gave him up when he was a baby, and he’d never really understood why. Through his life, people had assumed he’d present as a beta, because he’d been a scrawny kid. Things had only gotten worse when at ten, his alpha denomination had shown through.
Then, everyone had wanted a piece of him, an opportunity to say that they’d fought an alpha and won, uncaring of his age and size- the world had forced him to become ruthless very quickly.
He’d let the world’s rejection shape him, and he’d only realised that when he’d met Frank.
Frank had made him understand, that alphas were not supposed to be cruel, but rather the very definition of safety and security.
He'd tried his best to ignore the hollow feeling inside of him, and that had worked.
At least, it had, up until he'd smelled that stupid coat.
Now, it was like someone had taken a piece of him and ran off with it, ripped a carefully placed bandage off and left him with an open wound. He could feel the absence, like if it was a whole other person in the room.
He wanted his omega.
It was all he’d thought about now, as he pressed the coat to his nose every night, struggling to catch her fading scent, he wondered if he’d ever be able to sleep again when the scent fully faded.
He keeps going, maybe he even pushes himself harder, his work distracts him, helps him keep a clear head.
He’d even accepted a job to secure artwork for the museum, even though his specialty was protecting people, and Frank was usually the man that handled asset protection.
He’s following closely behind The Scream when he stops dead in his tracks.
One of his employees tosses him a confused glance, but he ignores it as he takes a deep inhale.
He’d know that vanilla scent anywhere, the smell of apples mixed in and his heart gives an eager kick.
Surely not-
He turns his head, sees a painting of two lovers hiding from each other, kissing through a shroud of white cloth. He studies it for a moment, his mind racing at speeds he can’t fathom.
When the painting gets too far ahead, he turns and resumes his stride, thinking about all the ways he can do his best to get what he wants.
.
He gets permission to access the security footage of the museum.
Who’s really going to deny an alpha anyway?
Billy finds her, or at least the back of her head, and he can’t help the excitement that after weeks of searching, he’s managed to get lucky and obtain a lead on her.
He talks to the security guard that walked her out. With a sleepy voice over the phone, the man tells him that she’s a frequent visitor to the museum on Fridays, and she doesn’t cause any trouble so he lets her stay a little after closing.
“She just likes looking at the pieces, and I can’t be mean to an omega as shy as her.”
Billy’s mouth twitches upward, amused at the biological imprint inside everyone to protect omegas. The men who’d done her a favour to deliver his coat had said near the same thing.
It had made him fond, of a sweet girl, that would no doubt be spooked if he showed up at her home unannounced. Even if he now had the means to trace her back to her home, he couldn’t take the risk. He had to play this right.
.
When you hear Edvard Munch’s The Scream is on display, you vibrate with excitement. Instead of going the opening week, you wait till your usual time the next Friday, when hopefully there’s much less of a crowd to contend with.
It’s not completely empty, but you’re okay with the sparse crowd, you smile, tiptoeing to peek over shoulders so that you can catch a sight of it before you’re at the front.
You love everything about it, the colour and the expressionism of it, you wonder how much the paint has faded over time. The little paragraph beside the painting describes an infinite scream, a universal anxiety, and you think you can almost feel that as you stare at it, the idea that you’re being watched sending a nervous thrill down your spine.
When you move away from the painting however, the feeling lingers. You take a deep breath, closing your eyes to shake the feeling, you don’t understand how a painting can have such an effect.
To clear your head, you find an impressionist nearby, Monet’s reflections of clouds on a lily pond, and you stand in front of it, letting out a long sigh.
When the distinct smell of bergamot hits you, you stiffen.
Your heart squeezes into your throat, and you try to look around as casually as possible, betas turn to look at you as they scent your distress in the air.
Did you feel like you were being watched- because you were actually being watched?
You take in another breath, and this time, you’re sure.
Cracked pepper, citrus-
The alpha was here.
Someone says your name behind you, and you turn in fright.
There he was. Dressed down in casual clothes, trying to blend in with the people around him- as if an alpha as handsome as him ever could.
Billy Russo was devastatingly gorgeous up close.
But you were fucked.
Your eyes widen and you take a step back, knowing that this was definitely about stealing his coat. He would no doubt try to make you pay for cleaning- or worse yet- a new coat entirely.
Your body flushes with fear as you back away from him on shaky legs.
His head tilts as he watches you go, dark eyes caught on your retreating form.
“Don’t run, omega.” He says easily, taking a single stride as you back away, his presence looming over you, igniting something in your stomach like a match being struck.
You make a small sound in the back of your throat, and you do exactly what he says not to.
You run.
Well, not exactly.
More like a quick walk, looking back to see if he follows, you beeline for the bathroom, hoping to hide in there for a moment.
You groan, splashing your face with water, internally grumbling over what you've gotten yourself into.
You should have never grabbed that stupid coat with your stupid omega senses always searching for the right alpha. What did you think? That just because he’d had an amazing scent meant that he wanted to take care of you?
No, he was probably going to scold you, and force you to pay him back, and you couldn’t afford three thousand for a coat.
Your throat tightens in panic, your body flushes with fear.
You couldn’t think too much on what he would do if he caught you, all you needed to focus on right now, was getting away.
So you take a deep breath and you shed your jacket, tucking it under your arm and stepping out of the bathroom behind someone.
There’s not a lot of people, but luckily you know the museum, and you take the most secluded paths that you doubt anyone unfamiliar to the museum would know of.
You sigh happily when you see the exit door in sight, making large meaningful steps, looking back every now and then. Behind you is empty, and you think that you might have actually lost him.
It sends a pang of sadness through you, but you shake your head to shove it away.
You look back once more when you push your way through the exit doors, making sure the path behind you is clear of any six foot alphas.
And you walk right into him.
You’re not sure it is at first, but his size and smell give it away. Your face is pressed securely to his chest, and his hands come up to grip your upper arms firmly.
You raise your head in panic, trying to wrench back from him.
“Relax omega, you’re not in any trouble, I promise.” He says, something in his voice that makes his words sound believable.
You whine in distress.
“Please, I’m sorry, I can’t afford to replace your coat. I shouldn’t have taken it.” You plead, voice wobbling with the struggle to speak under duress.
“Shh, little one, I’m not here to ask you for money.”
His words don’t register in your head, and you begin to cry. Thick swells of tears fall from the corners of your eyes.
“I can’t pay.” You struggle out in a tiny voice.
He grunts, his hands move to cup your face, your tears spilling onto his fingers instead.
“Omega.” He says meaningfully.
The command in his tone makes you look up at him, brain going quiet, the power of his voice catching your attention easily. His stern expression softens.
“I’m not here to make you pay for anything, and I promise you’re not in any trouble.”
You make a little sniffle.
“ ‘M not?” You ask weakly.
The corner of his mouth curves up.
“No, I just want to talk.”
“Talk?” You repeat dumbly.
His thumbs trace over your cheekbones gently, a soft tingling sensation swims in your head and settles at the top of your spine. Your eyelids flutter as you watch him nod.
“I’ve been searching for you for weeks, omega, since you left me that coat drenched in your sweet scent, I haven’t had a clear thought since.”
You gulp.
“I’m sorry.” You whisper.
“Don’t be sorry just-” He squeezes his eyes shut as if he’s looking for the right words, “Have dinner with me. Tonight. My treat.”
You take a deep breath, eyes widening.
“I’m not sure it’s such a good idea.”
He lets out a swift breath, you worry that you might be aggravating him.
“What aren’t you sure about? Your safety?”
You feel your heart pick up its pace beneath your ribcage, tormenting your body with the feeling of panic.
You reach up, cupping his hands in yours and peeling them off your cheeks.
“Alphas are… notorious for getting angry when they don’t get their way.” You reply anxiously, your hands uncurling from his, filled with so much trepidation.
“I understand, but give me a chance to prove myself. There’s something between us, omega, you just have to open yourself up to it.”
You blink, stomach flipping as you debate your options.
You eye him warily, too afraid to say no, too scared of how he would react.
You take another step back, and his face looks pained, his body tense.
You shake your head, scared, taking another cautious step away.
“Please don’t run.” He says softly, it makes you pause.
Maybe… maybe a chance wouldn’t be so bad.
“What about lunch tomorrow?” Somewhere bright and public that would make you feel safer about being around him.
He lets out a slow breath.
“Lunch is great. Where?”
You think for a moment.
“We can meet right here, there’s a place not far from here with nice sandwiches.”
He inclines his head.
“Sandwiches are great.”
You give him a soft smile of amusement, still a little unsure.
“Okay, we’ll meet here tomorrow? Around 12?”
He nods, digging into his pockets for a moment before pulling a card out and extending it to you.
You blink, a little cautious, reaching for the obsidian coloured paper in his hand. You study the raised silver lettering, his name, his job title, his company.
“The one on the left is my cell. Let me know when you get here. If you want, we can look around the museum too.”
Something flips in your chest at the thought. You wonder what he thought of The Scream.
“No,” You mumble, shaking your head, “The museum is packed on a Saturday. I hate crowds.”
He nods in understanding.
“No crowds then, maybe we can take a walk in the park.”
“Maybe.” You reply, still a little unsure of this entire scenario.
“You're safe, Omega, I promise.”
You offer a sad smile.
“That's what they all say.”
.
He was going to kill every Alpha that had ever made you feel unsafe.
He sits in his car, after you'd denied his offer to at least take you home.
Your scent fades where he'd touched you, his body demanding more. Apples, so fucking sweet his mouth waters.
Halfway to his home, a text comes in from you, shyly informing him that you'd made it home.
He'd asked, wanted to make sure that you were safe as the late evening had turned to night.
He keeps it simple, types out a small message to put you at ease.
Thank you. Sweet dreams
.
.
.
A/N: Pretty sure y'all are gonna hate this. Sorry.
Also, just asking for more without leaving any kind of feedback makes me feel kinda used 😅

Elmore Bolling, he was too successful.
Elmore Bolling, whose brothers called him Buddy, was a kind of one-man economy in Lowndesboro, Ala. He leased a plantation, where he had a general store with a gas station out front and a catering business; he grew cotton, corn and sugar cane. He also owned a small fleet of trucks that ran livestock and made deliveries between Lowndesboro and Montgomery. At his peak, Bolling employed as many as 40 people, all of them African like him.
One December day in 1947, a group of white men showed up along a stretch of Highway 80 just yards from Bolling’s home and store, where he lived with his wife, Bertha Mae, and their seven young children. The men confronted him on a section of road he had helped lay and shot him seven times — six times with a pistol and once with a shotgun blast to the back. His family rushed from the store to find him lying dead in a ditch.
The shooters didn’t even cover their faces; they didn’t need to. Everyone knew who had done it and why. “He was too successful to be a Negro,” someone who knew Bolling told a newspaper at the time. When Bolling was killed, his family estimates he had as much as $40,000 in the bank and more than $5,000 in assets, about $500,000 in today’s dollars. But within months of his murder nearly all of it would be gone. White creditors and people posing as creditors took the money the family got from the sale of their trucks and cattle. They even staked claims on what was left of the family’s savings. The jobs that he provided were gone, too. Almost overnight the Bollings went from prosperity to poverty. Bertha Mae found work at a dry cleaner. The older children dropped out of school to help support the family. Within two years, the Bollings fled Lowndes County, fearing for their lives.
Elmore Bolling and his wife, Bertha Mae Nowden Bolling, in Alabama circa 1945.

wodneswynn Hey, listen: We're not gonna get anywhere with this "socialism" stuff unless we can establish solidarity networks that provide. real, tangible aid. And I do mean "tangible" in the sense of "you can fill up a box with it."
Back in the old-timey days, when we didn't have things like a minimum wage or gov- ernment assistance, folks didn't think twice about paying union dues every month out of their meager paychecks. And in those days, when it was a regular, everyday occurrence for union people to get beat up or outright murdered for their union-ing, the unions still managed to win a lot of their fights. Reason for all that? The bigger part of them union dues I mentioned "went into a strike fund",
Time on a picket line means time off the clock. And as for me, in this economy, if I go a week without a check, my family don't eat. I go two weeks without a check, and we're homeless. And them's the brakes.
Rjenroses: In my community we started a co-op in order to, in part, purchase things with mass buying power (i.e, we can get things at wholesale if we order enough of them, so we can, for example, eat organic food for about what conventional costs a lot of the time.)
But we also set aside a little money each time we order, and that money helps pay for donation boxes... and the social network we created when we created the co-op means that if someone has a crisis, someone else probably has the answer. "This family just lost their job and can't afford to buy presents for their kids" may get a response of "Here are presents for every single family member" or it might end up with finding a job for the people looking for work, or both, because the co-op membership is diverse and represents a lot of people who are otherwise. very connected in the community.
When a part of town is out of power, it's usually possible to find a co-op member who can run for ice or bring a meal, or offer use of a washer/dryer for the evening.
We had one year where we were making donation meal boxes for a holiday, found out on the last delivery about a family in severe need, talked about it in the co-op group and ended up showing up at their house with not only a meal, but enough dry goods, paper towels, toilet paper, etc. for a month, plus a credit with the co-op for fresh fruits andveggies.
I cannot overstate the power of networking. in your community. This one started out. in a natural parenting group, but quickly spread beyond that, from college students to retirees. It's like a small town, only more open-minded. We started with about 20-30 families. There are now hundreds of people involved.
I had a trans kid land with me at one point and asked if anyone had size whatever clothes and within a few hours we had a box on my porch, within a couple days we had a bunch of things he needed.
The co-op keeps a lending library of tools and weirdly specific kitchen devices like an Æbleskiver pan, a food dehydrator, a capsule maker and a carpet cleaner. The kinds of things people need once or twice a year, but might not have the room to store.
We periodically do a buy of sensory toys and sensory bin supplies, for example, because we have a lot of autistic members and parents of autistic kids,I have bought socks from the co-op that were purple with unicorns farting rainbows on them. We recently got in Black History: flashcards and we've done a lot of Black Lives Matter and Hate Has No Home lawn signs. Pretty much if people want it and we can find it at wholesale, the co-op will order it.
It even spawned a side-business (more than one, actually, but this is the relevant one) of an online app for co-op managing, called http://managemy.coop so that other communities could take advantage of our experience and start out with an easier tool than the google spreadsheets we started out with.
Anyway... if you want to network within your community, this is a really, really good way of connecting with a broad cross-section of people.
nyshadidntbreakit: All that stuff about unions still applies, too. Unions have hardship funds. If you're a union member and you're broke, or you've been fired, or whatever, you can apply to the union for a grant to help you out. The binmen in Birmingham pulled off a months-long strike. recently thanks to the union paying their living costs. Unions force employers to pay decent pension contributions and have safe sick leave policies,
If you're employed, join your damn union!
solarpunk gnomes: You might check out http://www.transitionus .org/transition-towns too. They're trying to build resilient communities by getting neighbors to talk with each other about stuff.

10 for ScarletVision or 14 for HarryFlash pls :)
You love to indulge me, Brieuc. 💖
So, this actually turned out a lot longer than I originally anticipated, because I got carried away, but actually it's your fault because you know I've had HarryFlash brainrot for the past few months. However, this is also the first fic I've managed to bang out in almost three months, so I thank you for the prompt from this post that i reblogged way back in... January.
Title: Learn to Let it Show Words: 2078 Rating: General Audiences Relationships: Harry Osborn/Flash Thompson Fandom: Spider-Man (comicsverse), Venom (comics), Marvel 616 Flash doesn't want to take his sweater off.
Read on Archive of Our Own, or below the cut!
14. “You heard me. Take. It. Off.”
As far as first dates had gone (well, the first date they were calling a date), all had gone well. Flash had seemed his normal, charismatic self, if not a little awkward, but it was kind of endearing, and if Harry was being honest, made him less nervous. They were just trying this, after all. Just seeing where things went. Catching up, after too long apart, and seeing if there was any room for more in the midst of their busy lives.
Flash did seem a little different now, though. Not in a bad way. Something had changed in him after his months overseas (which he was oddly dismissive of, but Harry wasn’t going to bug him about his work with the VA any more than Flash would bother him about Parker Industries), almost like he was more at ease with himself. Like he’d been carrying this big weight, but now it was lifted off his shoulders and he could finally breathe again. Harry knew a little something about that.
He almost wanted to ask, but that could happen another time. After all, they were already planning to catch—
“—the Yankees game next Saturday, right?”
"I've already texted Donna to make sure the day's open." Harry followed Flash into the apartment and put his jacket on a coat tree. “The kids like that you’re coming around more often, too. I think Normie enjoys your company. It’s…” He paused, trying to think of the right words. “Nice, having you around again. You were gone for a long time.”
Flash scratched the back of his neck and lowered his eyes to the floor. “Yeah, I was. Sometimes you take opportunities life throws at you and then realize where you really belong is back home.” When he looked back up at Harry, though, he smiled. “I’m glad we’re giving this a shot, though, Har. I mean it.” Flash wheeled himself into the kitchen and called over his shoulder, "Do you have a minute before you have to go? I could make you… uh… coffee?"
"Flash, it's after eight."
"And?"
Harry laughed and shook his head. "You always were a night owl. I'll take some water, though; thanks. Besides, I already managed to tip a drink over on you at the restaurant; I'd hate to ruin your sweater any further." He took a seat at the breakfast bar and pulled out his phone. There had to be a decent cleaner nearby. "Speaking of which… give me your sweater. I can get it dry cleaned and just have their delivery service bring it back to you."
Flash fumbled a glass but managed to catch it in the nick of time. "Uh, what? Harry, it's—" He turned around and pulled the fabric of his sweater away from his torso a little. "It's fine, see? You can't even see anything. I'll just throw it in the wash with the rest of my laundry—"
"With your t-shirts? Flash, come on, it's a nice sweater. I feel bad, just let me do this."
"Harry, no. You even picked up the tab. It's okay, I promise."
"It's not a big deal, just give me the sweater."
Flash fiddled with one of the push handles on his chair. "I— I can't Harry, I've got this… Look, I don't want to take my sweater off right now."
"Oh?" He crossed his arms. "Yeah, and when we were roommates, you would wander around shirtless all the time. Sweater, off."
"We're not in our twenties anymore! We've, you know, changed and grown and… and…"
"Flash, why are you being so weird about this?" Harry's gut twisted a little. "Unless you, I don't know, just don't want to take it off in front of me."
"What?" Flash's eyes widened. "No, no, Harry, it's not that.” He busied himself with retrieving a pitcher from the fridge. “I’m just pretty attached to this sweater. I took it with me when I was out of town. I try to take good care of it.”
“All the more reason for me to get it cleaned properly for you.”
“It doesn’t need to be cleaned. It’s a special fabric.”
“Flash.”
“Harry.”
Flash grinned up at him and held out the water. Charming as hell. Disarming. It was crazy how much trouble he’d had getting dates when they were younger.
Harry would have gone out with him in a heartbeat. And now, over ten years after they first met, he was.
So what was the problem?
Harry took the glass but let his long fingers linger over Flash’s for a moment. “This really isn’t like you, Flash. You’re going to make a man think he’s doing something wrong.”
“Come on, you know it’s not that. My life has just gotten a little complicated lately, that’s all.”
“Are we still talking about the sweater?”
“Sort of?”
“Just take it off!”
“It’s not that easy—”
In a desperate bid to assert himself, he pushed his chin up and said, firmly but not unkindly, “You heard me, Flash. Take. It. Off.”
Flash stared at him for a long second with wide eyes. Harry’s façade cracked a little.
“U-unless you don’t…”
“Did…” Flash stifled laughter behind his hand. “Did you just use your stern dad voice on me?”
“Did it work?”
He rubbed his face. “I’m sorry, Har. I can’t take this off.”
“What’s so complicated about a sweater?! Do you have a rash? An embarrassing tattoo? Flash, whatever it is, I promise you, I can handle it. You and I have not been through—” He gestured vaguely in the air. “—everything we’ve been through for you to sit there and tell me that whatever is going on is too weird for me to handle. My father’s a supervillain. Spider-Man shows up at my work every day.” Harry sighed and leaned down to put his hands on Flash’s shoulders. He smiled as encouragingly as he could. “Just tell me. Okay? I’m not… a tough guy, like you, but you don’t need to protect me.”
Flash frowned. “No, you’re right. And I trust you. I just…” He reached up and touched Harry’s face, a bit tentative. “I don’t wanna keep secrets from you. But this is a lot.”
His stomach turned again. “A sweater is a lot?”
“You better sit down for this.”
“Wha… why?”
“Harry, it’s easier if I just show you.”
He swore the fabric of Flash’s sweater moved under his hands as he pulled away.
Okay.
That happened.
Harry took a moment to close his eyes and take a few breaths. Whatever this was, it was fine, right? Flash was probably just involved in some… weird… military thing. Probably working with Stark Industries or something. Or test-driving a new type of secret fabric. Or maybe he really did have an embarrassing tattoo. But this was fine.
He opened his eyes.
You’re not going to panic. You know Flash.
He went to the living room.
Flash was there for you when you first got out of inpatient care. He helped you muddle through those first few months. He was there when you first got together with Liz.
He sat down on the couch.
He knows what it’s like to struggle. What it’s like to have your life turned upside down. Next to Pete and Liz, there isn’t hardly anyone you trust more than Flash Thompson.
Harry folded his hands in his lap and waited for Flash to join him. Flash was still in the kitchen, staring into space with his hands on his wheels. Finally, he pushed himself in and stopped right in front of Harry.
“A little while after you left for Seattle, I got pulled into something by the Army. I… I should’ve said no, I should’ve left that part of my life behind, but when you feel like it’s the only thing that’s ever been consistent in your life, it’s hard to do that.
“But even when the project was disbanded after a couple months, what I got out of it still changed my life.” His lips quirked into a smile. “I’m still me, Harry, but I’m also…”
Flash lifted his arm. His sweater literally quivered. Harry forced calm. He’d witnessed weirder things, right? He’d done weirder. (Maybe.)
“It’s okay, pal. We can trust him.”
And then, Flash’s sweater dissolved into a mess of tendrils. Harry backed up into the couch cushions and clapped a hand over his mouth, but Flash leaned forward to take the other in both of his. Still, even as Flash’s warm and calloused hands sought to ground him, Harry couldn’t peel his gaze away from the large figure forming in the middle of the living room.
It solidified into solid, deep black shapes, cut with white that formed a kind of spider on its chest. It had teeth and claws sharp enough to rend flesh, and bright white spots that looked like eyes. He already knew.
“Harry, this is my partner, V—”
“Venom,” Harry finished. “You’re— what? You’re Venom?” He wasn’t sure how to address this situation. “But— your sweater—?” Was now standing well over six feet tall and almost as broad and gazing placidly down at him.
“We’ll explain everything to you, Harry. But, yeah, earlier this evening, you spilled your drink on… on the symbiote. On Venom.”
A long pause filled the air. Then, “I’m so sorry I was going to dry-clean you.”
The being regarded him blankly at first — it didn’t have much in the way of emotive features. Flash had moved a hand to his (symbiote’s? alien’s?) partner’s massive arm while still keeping a hold on Harry. Tendrils linked the pair for a moment before Flash visibly relaxed. Then, the symbiote emitted a low, rumbling sound. Its eyespots curved slightly.
Was it… laughing?
Was he getting laughed at by Venom?
“You could not have known, Harold Lyman.” It knelt before him, its voice deep and gravelly, and Harry had to force himself to keep breathing. “We have met once before already.”
Harry stared. Okay, it could speak on its own. That hadn't been in his dad's briefing years ago. "You weren't with Flash."
"I was not," it affirmed, tilting its head in a way that reminded Harry of a very large cat.
“But he is now,” Flash said. With no more than a look and a touch of Flash’s fingertips, the symbiote pulled away from Harry, dissolving into dozens of liquid arcs. This time, it looped around its host before disappearing beneath his skin. Harry didn’t miss the way Flash’s eyes closed, a languid, pleasant smile on his lips as it settled within.
Terrifying, but mesmerizing.
Flash lifted his shoulders like he hadn’t just revealed that his body was home to a space alien. “Are you, um, okay?”
“It’s…” A good question. “A lot.”
“Yeah, there’s not really a good way to tell someone that you’re a… package deal.”
They sat there in silence, Flash staring at his lap and Harry up at the ceiling. So, one of his oldest friends was Venom. That complicated things. But… his ex-brother-in-law was Molten Man. His father had been the Green Goblin. Hell, Harry himself had been the Goblin, more than once. And Flash seemed okay, didn’t he? Just the same old guy, a little worn down by the years, but weren’t they all? Hadn’t they all changed? Weren’t they all just trying to figure out this crazy thing called life?
What did they all have to try and get through it, but each other?
Flash cleared his throat before Harry could try to think of something more to say. “Well, I don’t wanna keep you away from the kiddos too much longer, so you better…”
“I can stay a little longer.” Harry leaned forward to take Flash’s hand. “Just let me text the sitter—”
Flash reached his other arm out towards the kitchen. A black webline shot out and snagged Harry’s phone, and snapped it back into Flash’s hand. He shrugged. “Kinda handy.”
“You don’t say.”
A quick text about needing another hour later, Harry patted the seat next to him on the couch. Once Flash had transferred himself to Harry’s side, Harry turned and propped his chin up in his hand.
“So, aside from making sweaters and getting the remote… what else is Venom all about?”
Flash grinned the widest he had all evening.
This certainly had shaped up to be the most interesting date Harry had had in a long time.
He found himself looking forward to the next one.

In addition to all of the big, marquee signs, I really enjoyed seeing the smaller signs in the boneyard:
The Algiers sign reminded me of the fake Tangiers (which clearly was also inspired by the Sahara Hotel and Casino, but more on that later) used in the movie Casino.
The Tropicana Mobil Park was a mobile home park that was shut down in 2006 and demolished sometime around 2008. (source)
The pool player that once sat on top of Doc n Eddy’s Pool Hall, though technically not a neon sign, it’s still pretty fucking cool illuminated by all of the noble gases around it.
I’d love to hook the lady in front of this old Mon Bel Ami Wedding Chapel sign with this photo because her outfit works smashingly well against this backdrop and she looks cool as fuck. (Will clip out the rando dude, obviously.)
The shirt sign comes from Liberace’s favorite dry cleaner whom he would call out in tribute in his concerts--and I love that the sleeves flutter!
I would love that Red Barn sign in my house somehow, even though it’s too tall.
Andy, the Anderson Dairy milk delivery man, moved into the boneyard in 2018 and was built in the 1950s following the expansion of the dairy.

Reggie/Alex for 'the -_- one and the ^-^ one'
Reggie tossed the blankets back, jumping out of bed, throwing open the curtains and flooding the room with sunlight. "Good morning starshine, the world says hello," he sang, doing a little twirl to face back to the bed.
"Reg," Alex hissed, "it's too fucking early." With that he tugged the blankets back up over his head, feigning sleep.
"Aw come on grumpy pants, it's a beautiful day, you don't wanna waste it!"
Alex peered out from under the covers and groaned when he saw the clock. "Reginald, there is no way on God's green Earth that I am getting out of this bed at SEVEN AM on a Saturday. Let me have at least two and half hours more sleep and don't come back unless the world is ending and you have coffee."
"You're no fun," Reggie huffed, but he slid the curtains closed once more, pressed a kiss to the top of Alex's head, receiving only a grunt and busied himself to make breakfast.
Alex tossed and turned, but found himself unable to get back to sleep and mentally cursed his morning person boyfriend. He could also smell the delicious scent of french toast wafting up from the kitchen, and he grumbled his way down the stairs.
"Hello my little thundercloud," Reggie hummed as he placed a plate full of breakfast in front of Alex. "Decided to get up after all?"
"Couldn't sleep," Alex replied, though it was muffled from his mouthful of french toast. "I blame you."
"I accept any and all blame," Reggie said and he sipped his disgustingly over sugared coffee, passing Alex his, one cream, one sugar, like a respectable person. "But now we have all day to spend time together."
"If you think we're going on a hike like the last time you got me up at the crack of dawn, you have another thing coming," Alex grumbled, sighing as the caffeine filled his veins, revitalizing him.
"No, no hike," Reggie promised. "I don't want to spend all dat at the ER again just because a squirrel brushed passed you and you were terrified of rabies."
"Rabies is a legitimate concern and that squirrel was feral! It was glaring at me!"
"Because you kicked it away and into a tree!" Reggie retorted. "I was thinking we could get some errands done, have a nice lunch. Just a quiet day."
Alex reluctantly agreed, knowing his version of a quiet day consisted of a book and a puzzle while Reggie's might have a fun fair involved. But he would admit he did feel a little better once he drained his coffee and Reggie offered him the first shower. Then gave him a kiss that was filthy enough when he got out it almost constituted the need for a second scrubbing.
Their first stop was the dry cleaners. Alex thought it would be a quick in and out. But he also apparently forgot who he was dating, because Reggie had to stop and talk to everyone. He knew their life stories, asked about their families, and replied to all their inquiries about himself. And he did this for every place they visited. The library, the deli, the little bodega where they got most of their groceries that offered delivery. The florist because Reggie wanted a bouquet of sunflowers for their dinner table that night.
"Lunch time?" Alex pleaded.
"That's our next stop!" Reggie replied, bouncing along the sidewalk, a happy smile on his face, the sun making his freckles come in full force as he turned and pulled Alex towards the cosy little bistro down the street. Where of course, he again knew all the staff.
Of course, this turned out to be a good thing because one waiter slipped them extra bread free of charge, the hostess told them dessert was on the house and the girl at the counter 'accidentally' applied her employee discount to their meal.
"Where to now?" Alex asked. "My feet are starting to hurt."
"Home," Reggie replied. "For a nap."
"Thank fuck," Alex sighed.
Soon enough he found himself curled around Reggie on the couch, a warm blanket thrown over them, some mindless television show playing in the background, and he felt as comfortable as could be.
"Thanks for helping me with errands today," Reggie murmured, his voice soft and sleepy as he nuzzled his nose into Alex's chest. "And sorry about the wake up call."
"It's okay," Alex replied through a yawn, and pressed a kiss to the crown of Reggie's head. "Even though I will kill you if you make it a regular thing, it was nice to spend the extra time with you."
"Yay, that was my plan the whole time," Reggie slurred, dropping into sleep, looking adorable, and letting out the smallest snuffling noises as he slept. Alex rolled his eyes, but pulled Reggie closer.
"Love you sunshine," he whispered before allowing himself to drift off into his own nap, never once loosening his hold on Reggie, the brightest part of his life.

Why Is Dry Cleaning Better Than Laundering
When it comes to maintaining the quality and appearance of your clothing, the debate between dry cleaning and laundering is a topic many people consider. Both methods have their advantages, but for certain fabrics and garments, ADA Dry Cleaners offers a superior solution. In this article, we will explore the reasons why dry cleaning may be a better option compared to traditional laundering, focusing on aspects such as fabric care, stain removal, and convenience.
Fabric Care
One of the primary reasons dry cleaning is preferred for certain garments is its gentle approach to fabric care. Dry cleaning uses chemical solvents instead of water to clean clothes. This method is particularly beneficial for delicate fabrics like silk, wool, and lace, which may not withstand the agitation and heat of a regular washing machine. Laundering, especially with hot water and high-speed spin cycles, can cause shrinkage, fading, and damage to the fibers, ultimately shortening the lifespan of your garments.
In contrast, dry cleaning not only protects the integrity of the fabric but also preserves its original color and texture. The solvents used in dry cleaning are effective at removing dirt and stains without causing the same wear and tear that water-based methods can. For garments that you want to keep looking their best, dry cleaning is often the way to go.
Stain Removal
Stains can be a significant concern for anyone trying to maintain their wardrobe. While both dry cleaning and laundering aim to remove stains, the effectiveness of dry cleaning is often superior for certain types of stains. Oil-based stains, such as those from salad dressings, cosmetics, or grease, are notoriously difficult to remove with water alone. The solvents used in dry cleaning are specifically designed to break down oil-based stains, making them easier to remove without damaging the fabric.
Additionally, dry cleaners have access to specialized stain removal techniques that can address a wider range of stains. Trained professionals at ADA Dry Cleaners can identify the best method for treating each stain, ensuring that your garments are cleaned thoroughly and effectively. This expertise is particularly valuable for formalwear, wedding dresses, and other special garments that require special care.
Convenience
In today’s fast-paced world, convenience plays a crucial role in our choices. Dry cleaning services like those offered by ADA Cleaners provide a level of convenience that traditional laundering often cannot match. For example, many dry cleaners offer pickup and delivery services, allowing you to have your clothes cleaned without leaving the comfort of your home. This is particularly beneficial for busy professionals or families who may not have the time to dedicate to laundry.
Moreover, dry cleaning is often faster than laundering. While washing and drying clothes can take several hours, dry cleaning can often be completed in a fraction of that time. Many dry cleaners provide same-day service for items dropped off early in the day, ensuring you have your clothes ready for important events or occasions.
Specialized Services
Another advantage of choosing dry cleaning is the range of specialized services that are often available. In addition to traditional dry cleaning, many cleaners offer options like alterations, leather cleaning, and even rug cleaning. This makes it easier to manage all your clothing care needs in one place.
For instance, if you have a garment that requires a simple hem or a more complex alteration, you can have it taken care of while getting it cleaned. This convenience saves you time and ensures that your clothing is always in top condition.
Eco-Friendly Options
In recent years, there has been a growing awareness of the environmental impact of various cleaning methods. Traditional dry cleaning uses chemical solvents that can be harmful to the environment. However, many modern dry cleaners, including ADA Dry Cleaners, are now adopting eco-friendly practices. These may include using non-toxic solvents and implementing energy-efficient practices in their facilities.
By choosing a dry cleaner that prioritizes environmentally friendly methods, you can enjoy the benefits of dry cleaning while also minimizing your carbon footprint. It’s a win-win situation for both you and the planet.
Conclusion
When it comes to maintaining the quality and longevity of your garments, dry cleaning offers several advantages over traditional laundering. From superior fabric care and effective stain removal to unparalleled convenience and specialized services, the benefits are clear. Choosing a trusted provider like ADA Dry Cleaners ensures that your clothing receives the best care possible, allowing you to look your best for any occasion.
While laundering has its place, especially for everyday clothing, dry cleaning is often the better choice for delicate fabrics, special occasions, and items that require extra care. If you’re looking to extend the life of your wardrobe and keep your garments looking fresh and clean, consider making dry cleaning a part of your clothing care routine. Your clothes will thank you!
