This weekend marks the start of the new cultural season here in the Netherlands which is celebrated traditionally with a festival where a plethora of artists and musicians showcase (part of) their acts for free.
This year the stages of the uitmarkt festival will be centered around the Oosterdok area, which is the area around the Nemo Science Center, the public library and the Maritime Museum. (stop number two of the bus)
The uitmarkt festival truly has something to offer for everyone and is the perfect opportunity for visitors this weekend to engage in cultural activities for free.
The main stage, dubbed the Iamsterdam podium will host the openingconcert on Friday evening as well as the closing ceremony on Sunday evening with a big sing-a-long concert.
The festival attracts over 500,000 people to the 350+ performances spread out over 30+ stages, so for those visiting this weekend, don't miss out!

Meet the staff!
Every day our team of hosts and stewards are asked questions about their experiences in this marvelous city. They give advice and recommendations about the best spots in the city, the nicest restaurants and the top locations to visit.
With this in the back of our minds we麓ve decided to publish a monthly column to give you a bit of insight into the ins- and outs of Amsterdam, combined with a personal touch by introducing you to our wonderful team.
Apart from locals, our staff consists of people from all over the world who had to experience Amsterdam for the first time just as many visitors do. This combination of locals and expats makes for a unique mix and the right potpourri of people to provide a great overview of what to expect when you visit the city.
The first one is Alessio from Italy, who works as a Steward and Host here at City Sightseeing Amsterdam

Alessio, tell us a little bit of your first experiences in Amsterdam, what you thought of the city and the locals:
Amsterdam is a brilliant and multicultural city where you can find anything you need for a relaxing holiday, or even a crazy holiday, because remember what happens in Amsterdam stays in Amsterdam.聽
Well obviously it's a city where expats are also 聽welcome, most of the locals are so friendly and give you some tips about how life is in Amsterdam, but also some Dutch citizens are a bit rude especially if you don't talk Dutch.
One of my first funny experiences was when I was just arriving in Amsterdam. I Tried to talk in Dutch to a steward at the central station and he told me that he didn鈥檛 speak Dutch. So I thought at least I鈥檓 not the only one.
And what is your favorite caf茅 or restaurant in Amsterdam?
My favorite caf茅 is Hannekes Boom especially in summer time, enjoying a beer on the terrace.
How about your favorite attraction?
The Heineken Experience is my favorite attraction in Amsterdam, where fans of football and beer can meet each other.
Do you have a favorite Dutch person?
My favorite Dutch person is legendary football player Johan Cruijff.
What is your ideal evening out in Amsterdam?
My ideal for an evening out in Amsterdam is to bring my girlfriend for a drink in a bar-boat, and then take a walk along the enchanting canals of Amsterdam.
Lastly, what is important to know about Dutch people?
A tip to know about Dutch people is, don't try to walk on the bicycle path. They could become killers.
