"Wild Hunt"
By Scott Sterling
Ink and coloured pencil on paper, 9"x9"
The Wild Hunt is a ghostly ride through the stormy night skies of winter, said to appear in many regions of Britain and Northern Europe from late autumn to early spring. Its specific lore appears in many guises, varying by locality and culture. In my cover image, the leader of the hunt is Woden (Odin) on his 8-legged horse, accompanied by hounds, gathering up lost souls and ghosts along the way.

Daniel Ide emailed from Fallbrook, CA: 'Dia duit Marc - I am delighted to officially become a patron of The Irish and Celtic Music Podcast.
I have been a fan of your show since this time last year, and an Irish and Celtic music fan most of my life. I stumbled upon your podcast while searching “Celtic Music” on Sirius Radio.
I played in an Irish Folk music band in college 40 years ago (when The Chieftains ruled and Sinead was kicking ass). We called ourselves “The Rakes of Kilarney”. I was a guitarist and singer back then, today I am a full on percussionist (congacero mostly) with a passion for Latin - Jazz and Afro - Cuban rhythms. This past year I have been practicing my Bodhran playing to a level of session quality performance (thanks to your podcast). My plan is to travel to the West of Ireland in the end of October and session hop my way from Galway up to Sligo and beyond. I will be hitting you up for recommendations as the date grows closer.
I am 5th generation Irish - American. My ancestors fled the hard times In Ireland during the 1870’s, landing in Boston. Very few of them, generationally, have ever returned, myself included. I have been a student of Irish and Celtic history and culture with a romantic notion of returning “home”. My parents have been there a few times, making connections with distant relatives in Castlebar and Derry. I intend to return to the origin point of most of my family, feel what needs to be felt and embrace what ever is to come of it. Ever since I read John O’Donohue’s “Anam Cara” I have been absolutely smitten with my imminent return to the home of my ancestors.
So, as you can see, I am experiencing a delightful homecoming to my ancestral roots, and The Irish and Celtic Music podcast is providing me with a lovely springboard for weekly indulgences. What I love most about your show is your authentic love of the music, and the wonderful new connections being made for Irish and Celtic Music right in our own backyards.
Blessings of Peace and Love to you and your’s.
Slainte, Daniel"

February Fitness Frenzy 18/28
Back
I'm tired today. I think I'm feeling the "productivity hangover" of yesterday, if that makes sense... yesterday I got up, worked out, hit the shower and then headed to work. I was at a staff meeting all day, then on my way home I stopped by the 100¥ store and also the supermarket, then I spent the evening cooking and also cleaning a bit, as well as studying Japanese. Didn't exactly chill out all day.
I struggled to get out of bed this morning and I'm looking at my to-do list like... ugh. I have time to do it all and still have sufficient time to chill out, and if I do get it done I'll feel a lot more relaxed for the rest of the week without it hanging over me. But also. Ugh. I super do not want to. This is the work week where I don't get home until 22:45 most nights, and I have one day where I have to leave the house at 11:45. Also, my super chill Friday got switched to a super stressful PO day at a different school. Not gonna go into the reasons it's such a pain in the ass but trust me, it's not making me look ahead at this week with enthusiasm to take it on. Especially not after 2 single-day weekends in a row.
Anyway.
4 min warm up + 10 min back + 14 min yoga + 6 min general stretches. I used 3kg weights instead of bottles for the back workout, think that was a good choice. Could maybe go a bit heavier next time, maybe try 4kg.
Mood before: Tired Mood after: Tired
Chill celtic dub for y'all because I love this kind of music for yoga.

Davida emailed about Patreon: "Hi Marc, I have been a listener of your show for several years and really love it! You do such a fantastic job of bringing us varied and beautiful music, I can’t thank you enough. I listen to it while I’m knitting old and new Scottish patterns. I don’t think that I have any Irish or Celtic ancestry, but I’ve felt the music since I was a little girl. I have been supporting you on Patreon, but I just received a notice that they are changing the monthly donation to only one dollar. I remember hearing you say that donations could be made a different way and it would be more beneficial for you, so can you let me know how that would be? It doesn’t make sense to me to give you less money! Thank you so much and again please know that you do a fantastic job."
Sean Malloy of Band o'Brothers emailed photos from the studio: "Merry Christmas Marc! And thanks so much for including "Christmas Time Again" in Episode #690, "Light a Candle in the Window." We're honored to have our music played alongside all the wonderful musicians on your podcast.
When I saw the title of this week's podcast I thought perhaps you had included our song "On Christmas Day," which begins with the line "We light a candle in the window for weary travelers to find their way." But I was pleasantly surprised to hear that you also have a tune featuring the Irish Christmas image of a candle in the window. I find it to be such a lovely symbol of hope, hospitality, and mindfulness of people who are not with us but hold important places in our hearts.
We've been spending some time at Bonehead Studio in our hometown of Cheshire, CT lately (pictures attached) and we hope to have our new album ready by February - so new music in time for St. Patrick's Day. You'll be among the first to know when we release it.
Thanks again and Merry Christmas,"
David Tustin had a song request: "Marc, You asked an interesting question. Don was a God loving person, loved his family and encouraged cat and dog rescues. He also enjoyed Scotch Whisky! The best song could be one of your cat drinking songs or maybe you know of something better for your podcast.
Taing mhòr!
