In the end we got 36 likes so here are 36 random facts from Band Camp Boyfriend!
1 - Most people probably know this one, but it’s a good spot to start. The majority of names in BCB are music/instrument puns. Tom, trombone, TOMbone. Peter, trumpeter, trumPETER. Susie sousaphone. You get it.
2 - Cadence's dating history. She's already had her first kiss (which is why she doesn't make a big deal out of it), but not her first love, which is far more important. <3
3 - Initially Olive’s name was Angryphone, then Francis (for French horn) as she grew into a bigger character, then we finally settled on Olive (for oboe).
4 - Peter was the first character conceptualized and the first boy we asked Flora to draw. Don't tell him, he will get a big head.
5 - In this background, the football goalposts are missing because Blue Mountain High School is having them replaced…just kidding it’s because we the devs did not realize we forgot them because marching band is all that matters.
6 - Mr. Wiley has some of his roots in a Hunger Games OC I made in college. Namely the name, hair, and glasses…and the fact they both go crazy. Hunger Games Wiley had a much grislier fate though.
7 - Peter can’t remember his first kiss because he went around kissing all the girls when he was little until his mom gave him a stern lecture on germs.
8 - Tom is the only one allowed to ride in Peter’s car (which he got as a graduation gift) but he’s not allowed to bring food in.
9 - This one's right out of my old fact doc: Clark got bullied a lot as a kid for being a teacher’s pet. Got called names like tattle-tale, four-eyes, Clark eats tanbark, Clark the narc, etc. but who graduated top of class & got the good citizenship award from the Principal? hIM.
10 - Samuel was a super quiet kid, but somehow extremely popular. His fellow children craved his approval for some strange reason. Got good grades but the teachers got on him to participate more and be more outgoing. Of course, he didn’t. He just did his own thing.
11 - Poptart’s albinism affects his depth perception, making marching a little bit harder for him.
12 - Doug’s least favorite food is black olives. Also he drives an old clunker truck to practice (when he can get it started) and gives an illegal amount of kids a ride every day (namely the whole drumline). He makes everyone duck if he spots a cop.
13 - Leon has an older brother, Buck, who lives in the woods and owns a possum named Beauford. If they ever met, Beauford the possum and Bandit the raccoon would have been rivals.
14 - Susie’s a dog person. Her family owns a fluffy Newfoundland named Benji.
15 - Felicity was initially going to be a “mean girl,” until we decided her being a “pick me” was more realistic and less stereotypical.
16 - There’s an easter egg for our next game, Heartbreaker, in Band Camp Boyfriend, and vice versa. Players already have the concept and names of the LIs, they just don’t know it.
17 - In the end, Garth lands the leading role as Harold Hill in The Music Man musical and no bitches needed to be cut.
18 - As a child, Doug wanted to be the Kool Aid man when he grew up.
19 - A lot of stuff in BCB is inspired by our real lives. One of the craziest things is that our college marching band had a man auction to win dates with the guys. I showed up with $40 trying to summon the courage to bid on my crush at the time.
20 - Aaron has OCD and used to tap his fingers on everything, but drumming has helped him get a lot of his nervous energy out.
21 - All of the Drum Corps named in BCB are parodies of real life corps.
Red Angels = Blue Devils Yellowjackets = Bluecoats Tennessee Tiara = Carolina Crown Space Cadets = The Cadets
22 - You can find song motifs from Gustav’s Holsts “Planets” hidden within the BCB soundtrack. For example, Mars hides within “Run Like Hell” and Venus is in the romance theme, “Venus and Mars.”
23 - Drum and Drummer were the last characters to make it across the line into spritedom. Next up would have been Erin and Cornelius, but you gotta draw the line somewhere.
24 - The Warden is based on Mr. Friendly from Lost.
25 - All of the band directors have a clever name theme. Wiley, Craft(y), Knowles (Knowledgeable), Savage (Savvy), Brighton (Bright).
26 - Initially Tom was going to have a Triforce on his shirt, but we switched it to hearts because it’s more generic and fits with multiple games. Also we joke that you can either fill up his hearts or let them run out!
27 - Sabrina is an orchie dork and plays violin 2 in the orchestra.
28 - Marian, Garth, and Sabrina are all choir kids. Felicity is a former drama club kid.
29 - In my head Eugene resembles Eugene from The Walking Dead so…yeah his sprite definitely low-key has his look haha.
30 - Alex came up with our little heart trumpet logo. She used to draw it everywhere in high school!
31 - The original Higurashi anime was definitely an inspiration, with it’s cute-on-the-surface look and darkness waiting in the wings.
32 - There’s always a kid with a nickname in the band and it’s used so often you have no idea what their real name is. Poptart was the first thing I blurted out so that’s what we went with.
33 - The story of Rebecca was told to me when I was at camp in 5th grade. Still surprised our principal told a bunch of 10-year olds a story involving matricide and suicide. I made some modifications for BCB but…who knows…maybe she’s real.
34 - The rock in this background marks the grave of Rebecca and her family.
35 - Doug was originally going to carry the smallest bass drum for comedic purposes, but then we had a reality check.
36 - Some names that were suggested and didn’t make the cut: Clarence (Clark), Fleur (Felicity), and Gordon (Garth).
Bonus: Ms. Craft's maiden name is Kim.

Obey Me Boys as Band Kids
Please note that these are personal things I've noticed in my time as a former band kid, and is not meant to be taken too seriously. I love all the sections equally and all the weirdos in them, haha. Anyways, go band kids! 💪
Inspired by the new event coming out! 🤗
Lucifer is a trumpet player. He’s got one of the biggest egos in the band and plays loud and proud even if he’s wrong (which is rare). Lucifer is that kid that takes his instrument home every single day to practice and shows off the next day. Takes band seriously, and is very popular among his peers. Mad that he didn’t get drum major position, but never shows it when asked.
Mammon plays snare drum. Literally could use what’s left of his brain cells rattling around in his head instead. A troublemaker, probably gets betted to do stupid things every other week, which just causes more stress for the drum major and the band director. Though it makes for good stories later. One of the weakest marchers, loses the beat halfway and is now marching right, left, right…
Leviathan is a sax player, do not tell me he’s not. Most of the sax players I knew were NERDS, so dorky, but some of the funniest people you will ever meet. They’re either really popular or terribly socially inept, Levi falls on the socially inept spectrum. He’s not too serious, but not a total blowoff in the band. He plays super quiet out of fear of playing wrong, but if there’s a song he likes, he gets really into it. Probably one of those guys that puts the whole reed in his mouth and swishes it around to wet it as everyone else is appalled by it.
Satan is the drum major (me too 😊). Responsible and stressed, cordial with all, friendly with some. He knows the ins and outs of everything going on within the band, whether it’s gossip, inside jokes, the literal music itself (that’s a given), etc. He probably has little pow-wows with the section leaders where he gets his information, specifically the colorguard captain. Has a solid connection with the drumline.
Asmo is captain of the colorguard! Gossip and drama, and part of the band's discount Keeping Up With the Kardashians show (I swear that’s what it’s like). He’s a perfectionist, probably stays late after school to practice his routines. Has a meltdown at the smallest mistake, yells at others when they mess up. He’s definitely hit someone with a flag because they were in his way or in the wrong spot, iykyk.
Beel is a tuba player. He probably keeps to himself, maybe befriending the trombone or trumpet players and opening up a little there. His mom brings the band snacks and food for games. New to band so he’s learning how to play and march properly. Still hasn’t learned to suck in his cheeks when he plays.
Belphie is a clarinet player (also me 💅). He’s probably a squeaker. Makes hard eye-contact with the drum major as he licks his reed wet with a sly grin just to mess with them. He’s a great player, he just needs to be louder, no one can hear him. Leans on his clarinet when his eyes get droopy when he’s sitting down.
Diavolo is in the drumline, probably a bass or quad player. If he’s a quad player, there will never be a time you won’t hear him playing. Every five seconds he’s playing some part of the cadence, and somehow the rest of the drumline joins in. If he’s a bass player, he’s just a derpy guy who’s just there for a good time. Joins the tromboners in their mischief and jokes.
Barbatos gives pit energy to me, think marimba and bells. He quietly practices in the back, waving his mallets over the notes so he doesn’t disturb anyone. Very attentive to the drum major and band director when they speak, never has an outburst of any kind. He’s responsible, and timely when preparing for a show. Probably keeps the drumline in check though. (Also plays cymbals during parades).
Simeon is a flute player, specifically piccolo. He’s a beast on that thing, and so loud (watch your ears). Gossips and chats with the clarinet section, is an honorary member of that section too. I bet he has that flute pinky thing, iykyk.
Solomon is… *sighs* a trombone player… He’s one of the guys in the back making “that’s what she said'' jokes when the director says something that can be twisted that way. Makes the whole band crack up at his funny quips. He’s a skilled marcher and is incredibly dedicated to the band. Sometimes empties his spit valve on other people’s shoes just to mess with them (think Lucifer specifically).
Luke is an aspiring trumpet player! He’s doing his best, so cheer him on when you can. One of those insecure, doesn’t want to be too loud trumpet players. But you can never be too loud…unless it says pianissimo…

Head Up, Eyes With Pride
@domaystic Day 14: Parade Fandom: Castle (my FLM universe) Word Count: 814 Rating: G [][]
Kate tucks her hair behind her ear again as the breeze blows it across her face. She cheers with the crowd as another parade float passes them, watching as McKenna and Wyatt dash out with the other kids nearby to gather up the candy being tossed to them.
“Mommy! Look! I got some!” Wyatt cheers, scampering through their line of camp chairs to get to his mom.
“I see, bubby! That’s awesome!” Alexis encourages, peering into the bag her son holds out to her. “Go sit with sissy and try and get some more.”
Kate helps her grandson back to his spot in his own child-sized camp chair next to his sister when a familiar black and gold banner appearing down the street catches her attention.
“Guys! Get ready, here they come!” Kate calls, getting their family’s attention.
Her kids’ middle school marching band comes towards them, marching in as perfect formation as a bunch of seventh and eighth graders can be. Their matching yellow ‘Eastlake Secondary School Marching Hornets’ shirts and jeans pale in comparison to the uniforms of the high schools that had come before them in the parade, but it’s good enough.
Kate’s heart quickens with excitement and pride as they pause in front of them. She easily finds Miyana - in front with her dance class who had been recruited to be the Colorguard - waving her honeycomb patterned flag in matching choreography with the girls around her, a wide smile plastered on her face. Kate chuckles as Mia mouths the counts to her dance (a hard habit for the girl to break).
She scans down the brass line, recognizing kids she’d seen around school and other band concerts and lands at the large drumline diving the band in half.
The row of quad drums quickly tapping out the beats to their cadence.
The row of bass drums and cymbals struggling to play quietly enough to not drown out the other drummers.
And in the center of it all: the line of snare drums. Six of them are standing with their drums clipped to the harness hung around their shoulders. The seventh is seated in a wheelchair being pushed by another band parent, her drum resting on her lap as she skillfully plays the ending of their cadence and then holds her sticks in proper ‘rest’ position. Their little Nemo who had had to campaign to even be allowed to do band in fifth grade; their director not having faith in her abilities to keep up - only seeing her disability and not the determined and passionate girl in front of him.
After surviving that year and graduating to middle school, band took a complete 180. With a new director who had complete faith in her, Finn thrived. She became percussion section leader in her spring semester of sixth grade and has kept it every semester since. Even now, during their marching season, she’s drumline section leader.
Band is her safe place. One of the few place where she can keep up with everyone and no one treat her differently because of her CP.
The pause in the music allows Kate to turn and look at her family; all of them have wide smiles on their faces as they cheer on the kids. McKenna and Wyatt shout as they wave to their aunts and uncle, hopping to get their attention.
A moment later, Finn counts the drumline off and starts the roll off. Kate can hear a smattering of “Up!” as the band put their instruments to their mouths and starts to play. It’s a medley of theme songs for the different armed forces; fitting for the Veteran’s Day parade they are at.
The parade moves on, and Kate quickly spots Liam towards the back with his fellow saxophone players. She watches him skip for a beat, getting back in step with everyone. Soon enough, the band’s music fades as they continue through the parade route.
“Wow! They were good,” Alexis comments. “Definitely better than last year.”
“Oh, yeah,” Kate laughs, recalling the memory of last year’s disaster of a parade. This time was significantly better.
“Hey, Kate!” Castle calls to her over the heads of his mom and her dad. “What was it their teacher called the way they march? There was two of them and they do that specific one.” She sees the way his brow is scrunched, his brain working hard to remember the word.
“The style they use is called ‘roll stepping’ the other is ‘corps style’,” she says. It had been drilled into her from both her kids and their director; how could she forget?
“Yes! That’s it,” Castle smile. “Roll stepping,” he repeats to the stranger next to him as they continue their conversation.
Kate goes back to watching the parade, her grandkids racing for more candy, enjoying the fall sunshine and light breeze in the air.

I have a school assembly gig with my mercenary drumline tomorrow and I’m still not sure if I’ve got all the music memorized (it will probably be like 5 songs and 2 cadences). Also, there’s a vast difference between playing a song well in your own house with your practice equipment vs strapping on a real drum and playing it all first try in front of an auditorium full of children, so we’ll see if I can adjust for all that while also remembering my parts.

choir songs: art song with no recordings on youtube named I've Waited Eleven Years For You To Die and it's the most devastating thing you've ever heard
band pieces: mediocre arrangement of a movie soundtrack
drumline cadences: every single one of them is named Brontosaurus Riding A Monster Truck for no reason

📼 Colette!
Surprisingly enough, the chaos goddess wasn't all that chaotic as a youth. That being said, her more traditionalist grandparents on her father's side went absolutely ballistic when they tried getting her to use chopsticks for the first time. She was 3 years old and had just seen a parade, the first one she remembered seeing. Little Colette kept her ears plugged because they were loud, but she had a wide grin on her face as they marched through regardless.
One section within the marching band that particularly interested Colette was the drumline. She said to her father, "I can feel it in my chest, Daddy!"
Minato Lin smiled, then goofily tapped the top of her head in rhythm with the drums, prompting a giggle in his pride and joy.
Minato brought Margot and Colette to his parents' house in the suburbs. In Colette's mind, there was nothing better than authentic ramen. Nevertheless, she always ate it with a fork at home. Her grandparents, however, tried teaching her how to use chopsticks.
She picked up the skill fairly quickly for someone her age, and when she cleaned her bowl, she held the chopsticks like drumsticks, playing a cadence she heard earlier that day.
She didn't know what her grandparents said in Japanese, but the wide-eyed expression in their eyes was at least funny.

@bcbdrums
@bcbdrums hey thanks for giving me the opportunity to nerd out about this again, I can't say right now my answer will be perfect but here we go. I'ma do my best here from my hospital bed. So are written and designed as mirrors of each other and when they get along they get along like siblings. Shego is this kind of what Kim could be. So that is really emphasized when u get the notes from Shego's theme. To start Kim's theme opens on this little riff where the first four notes are from the kimmunicator while the bass that plays under that part then picks up the riff and ends it on this downward scale.
So Shego's theme is supper heavily electronic and admittedly a little hard to transpose perfectly. But note wise when the two riffs are put in the same key it's supper easy to see how related the two themes are, take a look at the image above the first set of measures the bass clef being Shego's main riff and the treble clef being that opening riff from Call me Beep Me. You can see just how closely they are related.
Related so much that when I was hearing that part without all the heavy distortion I actually thought it sounded more like something that would be Kim's theme.
So that characterization wise is really interesting because when you think about the themes, Kim's theme moves on, it grows from this riff. There's almost a whole little adventure to be had. The transitions between the parts are smooth, where as Shego's theme. It is mostly that riff on repeat.
Shego's theme is called Go shego, OST 06, and it's that riff it gets a little evolution with this little ping pong arpeggio laying in over it (transcribed below) before being suddenly interrupted by the very doom bringing string section. Down scale bass strings and slightly dissonant upward arpeggio trebel strings. Then doing that little section with the minor second riff, either way it comes back to that main riff before cutting out rather abruptly. Not getting that nice perfect cadence.
Which characterization wise says a lot about each character but I digress.
So that main riff is actually only used 4 times in Shego's midnight rhythm when I want that slightly jarring stop to move to a new section.
Shego's doom strings are used only once.
In this song, I actually used all the little arpeggio parts as well as a good amount of the drumlines . However the main foundation comes from Rockapella's where in the world is Carmen San Diego. I did change the key from B major to Bb minor. Even the first and final basslines are honestly a slight re working of the first half of the first verse of Rockapella's song.
With the grand piano playing that rhythmic ostinato from Rockapella's piece then using Shego's layering parts over it instead of her normal main riff.
Hopefully this helps, if u want I can add in some additional links once I get home and am settled back in.
Shego's theme had no business mixing this well with where in the world is Carmen Sandiego by Rockapella
The downside to being a musician and a fanfic writer, you totally write themes for your characters.
Now that Shego in this au happens to be both the daughter of Carmen Sandiego (1999) and owns a night club (which is totally not a front for her villainous activities), with Carmen Sandiego (2019). I made her a new theme song that I somehow got to reflect both her heritage and her new profession (again totally not a front for villainous activities).

I'm not in choir, but I'm in band and I feel this...
My friend and I were talking, and then the topic of some of the songs we play in the stands at football games comes up, and I suddenly have Push It and Disturbia stuck in my head. We also started playing Take Me Home, Country Roads because a few people suggested it, so my friend and I had to sing it at lunch.. not to mention that I constantly drum the bass drum parts to all of our drumline cadences on my desk at least once each day lol
there's a chorus solo stuck in my head and it's getting annoying
i'll be doing math homework then all of a sudden i hear:
the seasons are changing, the holidays rearranging, the pumpkins and cobwebs disappeaaaaaaaarrrrr. for months we have been waiting - no WAIT! - anticipating... our favorite time of the yeaaaaaaaAAAR...
