Blame it on the Moon.
This is the Drosera binata I've been caring for since +/- 1990 one of the most difficult plants to take a good, in focus picture of that I grow. I had to get out of "Auto Focus" and learn to do it manually. The moon photos I've been taking is where I've been getting my practice. Auto focus always wants to focus on the dirt.
I showed you the bare root dormant transplant of this little pot full last spring. I expected it to just go at the time but it got cranky and slow instead. It should be back to abnormal by next year. My friends use to call it the "Dr. Seuss Plant" because of the way the leaves branch like the antlers on some of the creatures he drew.

Carnivorous Plant of the Week (August 9th, 2021) - Drosera binata
Also known as the fork leaf sundew, this carnivorous plant is “found primarily in the sandy marshes of southern and eastern Australia, Tasmania, and New Zealand” according to ICPS. This plant is known for it’s unique appearance, which features forked branches.
Like all Drosera plants the Drosera binata features a special sticky mucilage that traps insects, plus the tentacles will curl up around captured prey.
Apparently this plant can do very well in terrariums if cared for properly, but be aware that most varieties go into a natural period of seasonal dormancy; according to some reading I did this happens without fail when grown in natural light, and happens on a more occasional basis when grown in artificial light (but this period of dormancy isn’t necessarily a bad thing; it’s a perfectly natural part of the plant’s life cycle so there’s no reason to try to avoid it or be overly alarmed when it happens).
In any case, by all accounts this particular carnivorous plant isn't terribly fussy when it comes to the soil it grows in; most of the pages I perused say that a standard carnivorous plant soil mix will do the trick nicely.
