Xiao wakes up alone. There's a draft in the room, and there sounds to be several people bustling about.

It takes a moment for him to wake enough to process his surroundings. Or more accurately, realize exactly how much he does not recognize them at all. For a moment, he's certain it's a dream. It's the only reasonable explanation, after all.

But despite this certainty, and this clarity, he can't wake up.

"Venti..?" Xiao calls out, a touch hesitant. A touch tentative. It feels ridiculous, as if calling for his fiance in his dream is going to fix anything. But if anything, maybe calling out will translate to calling them in his sleep. And surely they'll be able to wake him.

Before he can yell their name out properly, desperately, the breeze in the room picks up into a wind. Moments later, his fiance stands in front of him.

Well, someone who certainly looks like them. Maybe if they were dressed up for a ren faire. Brains dream up the oddest things. Though if he's honest, he hopes he remembers their corset when he wakes up - it's certainly worth investing in outside of his dreams.

Still, the wave of relief upon seeing them has him throwing arms around their neck and pressing a sweet kiss to their lips.

This fic is genuinely such a good read. It’s a lighthearted camp au that does really good with characterization.

Summary: Chongyun is a relatively quiet person... when he's not on stage performing that is. The fact is, he loves drumming, and his passion shines so bright that it attracts the attention of even the most unlikely audience.

Xingqiu enjoys loud places, as they are the only places where he can read in peace. Even still, one drummer never fails to drag his attention from the pages and to the source of the wonderful noise.

"Xiao," Somebody tapped his shoulder from behind. It snapped him out from vaguely staring at the end of the hall, where Hu Tao and her friend, the wise and fiery Yanfei, were talking. Turning around, Xiao was met with the golden eyes of Aether. "Your face was really unnerving just a second ago...are you alright?" Asked the worrying blond. Xiao gave a nod, "I'm fine."

"R-really...?"

It seems like Xiao didn't hear what his worrying blond friend says.

He still wonders, how could this weird, creepy yet quirky and cheerful classmate of his could be the same director of the Wansheng funeral parlor who seems to be more professional than she is now. Maybe it was the hat? She isn't wearing the hat now at school, it might be the parlor's uniform. But more importantly...

Xiao punches the wall next to him with his bare knuckles, bruising them a bit. His teeth clenches as he has a hint of pink tint on his cheeks. The thing he regrets the most, Because of that old man, he embarrassed me!

"Xi...Xiao...? Are you really okay?" Aether asks once more, trying to grab him by the sleeve.

It also catches the attention of one of his friends, the delinquent, Kaedehara Kazuha. "Did something happen to Xiao?"

Xiao glances at the laughing brunette wiping her friend's tear away with her finger, he glances back at his bruised knuckles and thinks to himself, What if...?

He finally makes his move to the end of the hall, causing the two other young men to watch him approach the two girls with the confidence of an awkward teenager—which he is.

"Ah—huh? Xiao?" Aether calls out but to no avail, only a small pat on the shoulder by Kazuha who tells him not to worry.

Yanfei tries to crack another joke with her knowledge of the law of the land of Teyvat but only see Hu Tao blinking her scarlet eyes a few times. "You don't get the joke, don't you?" The said brunette just comically shakes her head with her shoulders shrugging by her side. "Figured."

"Hu Tao."

That voice sounds so familiar to her. Turning around to see who's behind her, Hu Take is being greet by a wonderful surprise of dark teal hair and amber eyes.

"Hey~ Xiao! What's up?" Greets Hu Tao, sending finger guns along the way. "Reconsidering that discount yesterday?"

"Wha—no!" Says Xiao with slight confusion in his tone that is very noticeable. "Can I ask something?"

"Eh?" A drop of sweat ran across her cheek before rubbing her chin and pursing her lips. "Mr. Zhongli probably worked for a month, what's wrong?"

Xiao clears his throat for a bit, glancing around the stairs if any of his weird friends are spying on him talking to a girl so casually and abruptly like this, "Did he spend anything during his time there?" His voice catches her off-guard a little bit, it's being raised.

"For lunch," She looks out the window, the wind blowing some strands of her hair away from her face. "I think he had roast boar for maybe said thousand Mora."

"Aren't those quite pricey?" Xiao interjects.

Hu Tao sends him a nod.

"He didn't eat at Xiangling's restaurant often, right?"

"Maybe several times?"

"What?!"

She huffs and shrugs once again. "What is even the problem? He's a grown ass adult, Xiao."

"You don't understand!" Shouts Xiao.

When he sees her eyes widens at the infliction in his voice, he reverts back to his calm self in a matter of seconds and tries to act natural once again.

"To cut it short; he has a spending problem that will drag our money. It got worse once he starts dragging that Snezhnayan guy around—Childe, I think that was his name—he immediately starts spending even more." Finally explaining it to anybody outside his group—of people he considers family—is such a relieving feeling. Thankfully, Hu Tao is also Zhongli's boss, she can manage him to be more careful with how he spends on unneeded souvenirs. Hell, maybe as a business owner, she can understand it more than he does.

"So, you're sayin': your daddy needs a personal wallet person." Says Hu Tao, jokingly serious.

Xiao pinches the skin between his eyebrows and nods, "Yes. My daddy needs a personal wallet pers—what the hell does that mean!"

Bursting into hysterical laughter, tears start appearing in the corners of her eyes, cheeks tint with a slight peachy blush, her fingers swaying around hypnotizing him into utter confusion. Did she just crack some weird joke in front of him? Or is it just some saying that was an inside joke of hers? She's so confusing, weird...

"It means, do you want me to manage his spending habits for you, dear Xiao?" She finally confesses.

It isn't his plan at all! He was planning to ask her if she can forbid him from spending more and more the time pass by not be coming one of his wallet. But he thought to himself that it is just similar or the same thing as he wanted to ask.

She completely caught him there, he has to painfully admit. Her weird sense of humor sort of intrigues him in a strange way, he wonders what she will say next. Would it be something funny? Would it be creepy, about death? Would it be just plain old weird, like what happened? Or would it be her offering a discount to people or even him for their deaths? It's so random!

"Yeah, let's go with that." Xiao sighs lightly.

Grabbing his hands, she interlocks her fingers with his immediately. A cheerful smile forms on her face as she giggles. "I won't let you down, Xiao! You can bet on that!!" Little did Xiao knows, his ears tint with rosy pink blush. His heartbeat gotten faster. Bits of sweat ran down the nape of his neck. His legs become weaker. When she unclasps their hands away, a small chuckle escapes her as her dewy charm makes his whole body ache.

She looks up to the stairs before sending a mischievous wave at him, "See you in class, silly Xiao."

When he is already left alone, the only thought comes into Xiao's mind is the moment his hands touch hers. How are they so soft? Wiping a bit of swear from his neck, he can only let out huffs of heavy breaths while slicking some of his teal hair back. What the hell just happen? Hu Tao just acted like it's a normal thing to do. Who in their right mind hold hands—interlocking their fingers no less—with a classmate try barely knew?! She is so confusing.

"X-Xiao?"

He jumps and was about to kick the person's ass before learning that it's just Aether with their other friend, Venti, trailing behind him.

"Hey, how'd it go?" Asks Venti, calming the worried Aether with a pat on the shoulder.

Xiao glances away before waving it off nonchalantly to them, "She's a weirdo. A creepy weirdo."

"Don't say that!" Scold Venti, pulling the shorter male back by his collar before he could run away from the problem at hand here. "You can never judge a book by it's cover," Xiao just grunts and crosses his arms together. "You can never know what will happen between you two." He continues on, Xiao only rolls his eyes in disdain. Aether just watching the two unfold. "Maybe she could be your future girlfriend, we may never know—"

"—gir...girlfriend?!" Xiao pulls away, his ears reddening by the second.

Venti grins from ear to ear and goes closer to his face, specifically his ears. "Why won't you look at that, you're blushing!"

"I'm not! Shut up!!" He covers his ears immediately.

"Aether, Aether! C'mere and take a look!" Venti calls out to the blond and shows him the blushing red ears of their dear friend, Xiao. "Doesn't he look cute when he's flustered~?"

"I'm not cut—shut up, you tone-deaf idiot!" Growls Xiao, trying to escape the situation.

"Oh, Xiao, sweet innocent Xiao." The barrette wearing male pats his head gently with a hint of mischievous hidden behind his sweet grin. "You can never predict love, my dear Xiao~ right, Aether?" Looking to his blond friend, Aether just nods—doubting that it's far from genuine.

"You two are so annoying."
