𝐩𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠: dream x reader

𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫𝐲: you’ve finally decided to do it - let the fans hear you voice for the first time. will it be a complete disaster or a pleasant relief?

𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐝 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭: 797

𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬: none!

“okay, are you ready?”

clay’s hand hovered over the unmute button, ready to click it whenever you were ready. you couldn’t believe this was actually happening. yeah, sure, the fans knew by now that you were clay’s partner, and some even found your social media accounts, but revealing your voice to the world? not exactly what you'd been… looking forward to.

it’s not like you didn’t like his fans - they were super sweet and supporting! to him, that is. to you? that might be a different story. and you’d be lying if you said that that wasn't why you were hesitating. 

you moved your face away from the mic, fumbling around with you clammy fingers “no… hold on.” you looked at his screen, watching as the number of viewers on his stream went up, only causing your heart to beat faster. you could almost feel his eyes burning into your skin. you looked over at him. “I’m scared.”

his already soft gaze turned even softer. he reached a hand towards you, placing it on your hip to move you over to him. “c’mere,” he said, patting his thigh and giving you a reassuring smile. you sighed, plopping down on his lap and placed your hands on his shoulders when he tugged you closer to him. he curled a strand of hair away from your face, brushing his thumb on your cheek bone along the way. “you have nothing to be scared of.”

you rolled your eyes. “yeah, well, that's easy for you to say. you’re not revealing your voice for the first time in front of…” you trailed off to watch the number of viewers he were on now. “one million people!” he tilted his head at you.

“they’ll love you! it’s impossible not to,” he winked, squeezing your hand in his. you rolled your eyes again but couldn’t force the smile away from your lips. cheeky bastard. “look, if you don't want to, I can totally just call it off right now. it’s just so hard for me to hide you from the world when all I want is to show you off all the time.” he lifted his hand up, booping your nose gently with the tip of his index, causing a wide smile to form on your face. he mirrored your smile.

“you do have a way with words,” you trailed off, going back to fiddling with your thumbs, though this time with an eased mind.

“I know, I’m the sweetest sweet-talker in town,” he joked, features quickly turning serious again though, hooking his index under your chin to tilt your head up. meeting his eyes, you felt at ease as you stared into the many layers of green in his eyes. “seriously, though, the choice is yours. if you don't wanna do it, we won't do it. okay?”

you nodded; “okay.” grabbing the hand he’d placed under your chin with both of yours. you squeezed his palm with your thumbs with a smile appearing on your face. “I’m ready.”

he smiled at you, pecking your lips, before turning you around on his lap to face the monitor. he reached over to click the unmute button, opening chat to see the reactions.

“okay, guys. before I end stream, y/n’s just gonna pop in to say a quick hi. please be nice, I promise you, they’re the sweetest.” and within only a few seconds, the chat was going crazy, comment after comment flying past the screen. “okay, go ahead,” he muttered into your ear, placing his hand on your hip and giving you a reassuring squeeze.

“hi, everyone! I’m y/n. it’s actually the first time I’ve revealed my voice online, so I’m a little nervous.” you hesitated to continue, peeping at the comments to see what everyone had to say, heart racing as you did so. you swallowed, a wet kiss being placed on your neck by clay to calm your nerves, noticing your hesitance.

he took over for a bit, bringing you into a funny conversation after a while to ease the tension and make this experience feel more natural to you. and it really helped, it really did. so much that you didn’t even spare a second glance at chat before after the stream. and, boy, did the comments leave you as a bundle of joy.

everyone was so excited to hear from you and were throwing compliments here and there. of course there were the expected hate comments, but you weren't surprised that there were delusional people here to hate on you. as said, it was to be expected. the point is that the fans absolutely love the little sample of you they got, and can't wait to see more of you. or, I guess, hear more of you.

“I have to finish up at work, but then we can celebrate your birthday, alright? I promise it shouldn’t take long.”

Those words replayed in your mind for what felt like hours, repetitive with seemingly no end. Your hands balled by your sides, nails digging into the flesh of your palm hard enough to create deep indents. Any harder and you were sure it would break the skin. That is, if you weren’t paying attention to the music playing softly through your earbuds, blocking out any sound around you. It was your birthday, for damn sake! Why couldn’t your parent just keep their promise? You suppose that wanting to receive even 10 minutes of attention and/or affection from the person who helped create you was just too much for you to ask.

Around you, nothing seemed to really exist. It had been easily 6 hours, if not more since that promise had been broken. Eyes darting to the corner of your device screen, they read over the words ‘9:53 PM’. Expression full of hurt, you check your discord for the first time since last night, as you had turned your messages off for the day with expectance that you would be enjoying your family’s company. Doubting that anyone had sent you a single message, you watch the game controller-shaped figure spun for a few moments before you were greeted with the main screen. You paused for a moment, reading all the numbers in a bright red bubble while mentally noting who had sent the amount of messages you received.

This felt like a fever dream, the amount of DMs and tagging you had slightly overwhelming you. There were several other DMs from other various content creators you knew and streamed/recorded with. It seemed like the second your status icon had turned from dull grey to a vibrant green, you were hit with a flood of more messages. Having to actually turn down your ‘Alerts and Notifications’ volume from how many people began to message you once you came online, you couldn’t help but feel a smile tug up at your lips.

Going to the Dream SMP server first, you duly noted who was in VC 1 before instinctively joining. Immediately, your ears were welcomed with an ear splitting scream from none other than Tommyinnit. Before you had time to even open your mouth to complain about the loud, obnoxious sound, the sound of several others joining the call echoed through your earbuds.

“Guys look! The birthday Muffin is here!” Bad’s voice rung out amongst the chaos and you were quickly met with a chorus of untuned, sporadically timed, not-practiced whatsoever, “Happy Birthday”. Listening to the awfully sounding mantra of the song “Happy Birthday”, your smile grew wider and a few tears rolled down your face. You couldn’t care less though, because you realized that in the end, you had your friends to celebrate your birthday with you even if it was virtual.
