You know that annoying “ha ha, girls are irrational, she got mad at her boyfriend because of something he did in her dream” thing?

Turns out it can actually happen, but I think you have to already have a low-level resentment towards the person.

I just dreamt that my family (me, mom, sisters, stepdad) were living in our old house that we haven’t lived in since 1997. And we went out to dinner, and were driving home in our old minivan, and for some reason Mom was in the far back and I was in the passenger seat while stepdad was driving. Mom wanted to drive past some random side road that had a banana store (I think this relates to her recent ex-manfriend?) but stepdad didn’t make the turn, so mom wanted to go back, and stepdad got pissy because he just wanted to get home because he had a lot of work to do. Mom got passive-aggressive, he was all “fine, let’s go,” but she didn’t want to go past the banana store anymore. He got fed up with her attitude (she actually does this in real life, so I can understand it) and stopped the car and was all “you should just walk” and she started to get out and I told him “If you leave my mother on the side of the road you will never see me again” and so he let her get back in the car and started driving again. 

At like a mile an hour, like slower than anything, like the kind of slow where you’re trying to run away from a monster but you’re stuck in molasses sort of dreamslow. And then I chased him and smacked his head with his stupid baseball hat (dunno why he had that, he doesn’t wear hats and when he does they’re more like archaeologist hats but whatevs).

And I woke up and I was just so furious with him still! If he’d been around I probably would have hit him with a pillow or something.

But the thing is, I’ve got major issues with the guy, and he’s done stuff like that to my mom in real life, and I pretty much don’t see him anyway. So I guess my point is, if a girl wakes up furious over something her boyfriend did in her dream, there’s probably some underlying issues in the relationship and maybe she’s not so irrational after all.

I feel like this one had a lot of potential (Tye Sheridan is a great young actor), but it just missed some mark.

I agree! And since Tye Sheridan was in Mud as well, and since those two movies have pretty similar atmospheres, it really highlighted the deficiencies of Joe (as compared to Mud).
