Random questions . . . any thoughts about the relationship between Eowyn and her parents? Or about her and Eomer growing up?
Thanks for the ask! 💛 This is at least two months late, I'm sure. I saw the notification, told myself I'd think up some headcanons, and then the summer flashed by in a blink.
Let's go with a little of both, and let's pretend that I can read and didn't miss the "growing up" part and focus most of my headcanons on Éowyn and Éomer's relationship as adults.
One of Éowyn’s fondest memories from her childhood is of her father setting her astride his mare and leading her around the paddock outside their home, while her mother calls encouraging words from outside the fence. Her father gives most of his attention to Éomer, so Éowyn cherishes the moments she spends with him. It’s one of the happiest moments she remembers before tragedy strikes.
She resents the despair her mother falls into after Éomund’s death, both because her mother pays less attention to her and because she feels it makes her mother weak. When she grows older and begins to experience the same despair, she resents it and works to shape it into cold determination so that she may not be thought to be weak.
She resents, too, that she must become a nursemaid to her mother (and that Éomer is not beholden to do so) until her aunts arrive and lighten the load, but feels guilty for feeling so about her mother and feels that a better daughter wouldn’t entertain such feelings.
One of the bright spots during her mother’s illness is her aunt Trewhild teaching her the basics of wielding a sword, during breaks from taking care of her mother. With a sword in her hands, Éowyn finally feels like she's no longer powerless.
Just before her mother dies, she gives Éowyn a knife that her own mother gave to her and tells her to always keep it with her. Later, when Gríma stalks the hall outside her bedroom in the late hours of night, she takes strength from her mother’s knife, tucked beneath her pillow (have to thank @hobbitwrangler for this one!).
As much as she loves her parents, she resents just a little that her childhood was stolen from her and she was made to grow up too soon. Théoden tries to provide her with a childhood in Meduseld, but Éowyn never quite feels like a child again after her parents' deaths.
When Théoden falls under Saruman’s thrall, Éowyn is reminded of how she felt when her mother was sick—powerless to heal her, resentful at being shut inside and having to be her mother’s nursemaid, and resentful that she feels that way she does. The intervening years don't make the emotions any easier to bear.
Éowyn always worries when Éomer rides off that one day he, like their father, may never return.
Upon Éomer’s banishment from Edoras, he quietly commands one of the few household men that he knows to be loyal to him and not under Gríma’s influence to discreetly watch Éowyn’s door at night. Gríma soon finds out and has the man thrown out of Meduseld.
After Éowyn returns to Edoras for Théoden’s funeral, Éomer and Éowyn have many long conversations about the mistreatment she endured at the hands of her family and its role in her suffering and despair.
Since Éowyn and Faramir refuse to have any weapons displayed in their home, Éomer hangs her sword and broken shield over the door to Meduseld, facing his throne. In time, stories spread among the people of Edoras that the arms of the Lady of the Shield-arm guard Meduseld from harm.
Éomer later changes the laws of succession to stipulate that the crown can pass to male or female heirs.
He is known by all to display a fearsome temper when cases of harassment, assault, rape, or abuse are brought before him, and he codifies strict laws regarding such cases.
Éowyn is widely known to be one of Éomer’s most trusted counselors (along with Lothíriel), such that she is considered an unofficial member of his council, and a seat at the council table is always reserved for her when she visits Meduseld.
Éowyn and Lothíriel get on like a house on fire, which Éomer enjoys most of the time, except for the times when he finds himself on the opposite side of an argument as them and the times when they conspire against him (which happens more frequently than he would like).
Relatedly, whenever Lothíriel is losing an argument, she plays the “Éowyn agrees with me” card, and Éomer is forced to capitulate because he knows his limits, and facing the combined ire of Lothíriel and Éowyn is more than one man can take on.
Éomer names one of his daughters after Éowyn (or gives her a name inspired by Éowyn and her deeds; I haven’t decided yet). Éowyn would likely do the same, but I’m very fond of Elboron being an only child.
Elboron and Elfwine (and his siblings) often spend months at a time living at each other’s homes, learning of the other culture and people they come from. It’s Éowyn’s idea to do so, and the people of Rohan and Gondor appreciate the additional strengthening of the alliance between their realms. The people of Edoras and Emyn Arnen, in particular, are always delighted when the heirs visit and take great joy in teaching them about the other half of their heritage.
#this got very long#the eowyn thoughts have no end#thanks again for the ask! <3#lotr#eowyn#eomer#headcanons#.txt#asks#dreamingthroughthenoise

💕Positivity prime time! Share five things you love about yourself, four things you're excited about, OR three people you care deeply about and why. Pass this along to someone whose posts make you smile💕
Thank you, friend! <3 Let's go with four things I'm excited about:
Cooler temps. The temps dipped down a little bit this week, and I was in my element. We're nearing the hundreds again this next week and probably won't truly cool down until mid- to end of October, but the end is in sight. The yearly scorching is almost over. I'm counting down the days until I can thaw some soup I froze earlier this year and can finally stop slathering sunscreen over my whole body when I take my dog for a walk.
Hobbit day! I'm planning on getting a little further on my LOTR reread tomorrow and putting on some Shire ambiance while I read. It's too hot still for a fire and hot tea for the full effect, but I'll do what I can to set the cozy mood.
Tolkien Horror Week happening in a month! I was blown away by the response to the announcement. It's my first time running an event, and I was worried that it might not get much traction because of that, so it's been great to see all the enthusiasm about it. I'm very excited to see what everyone creates!
Getting new glasses. I finally picked out a pair of frames (I'm the world's pickiest person about frames) for some new prism glasses and should be getting them this next week, just in time for a long drive to a family reunion next weekend. Headaches and double vision begone.

For the writing asks, 8, 14, and 28?
Thank you so much for the ask, @dreamingthroughthenoise!
8. If you had to write an entire story without either action or dialogue, which would you choose and how would it go? Hmm, given these options, I think I would write one without action, as I have written a one-shot that is this way and focuses almost entirely on the mental state of the protagonist. Though now that I think about it, this one shot also technically has no dialogue XD However, it would be fun to try one without dialogue, as that would force me to focus more internally or as an overview.
14. Do you lend your books to people? Are people scared to borrow books from you? Do you know exactly where all your “lost” books are and which specific friend from school you haven’t seen in twelve years still possesses them? Will you ever get them back? Sometimes I lend books to people, but I'm very careful about whom I lend them to, as I do want them back. I hope people aren't scared to borrow books from me; I don't know why they would be scared to, though. Yes, because there is only one book I have lent that hasn't been returned. I know who has it, but it's not worth it to get it back.
28. Who is the most delightful character you’ve ever written? Why? Hmm, this is another hard one. I haven't written many characters, but I think the most delightful to write so far has been Mîm's wife. She is very intelligent and observant and loves learning and discovering things. She also has a mischievous streak, but is caring and doesn't want to unnecessarily hurt people. That said, she can sometimes be a bit awkward in social situations and much prefers a lively discussion of craft techniques to trying to properly navigate social interactions. She is very fun to write, and I thoroughly enjoy doing so.
#again thank you for the ask; this was a lot of fun to answer#asked and answered#dreamingthroughthenoise

For your prompt requests!
Galadriel, Maglor, and Finrod 16. “Just Stay” Spring
I’d love some fluffy cousin relationship feels, but I don’t mind if there’s some angst mixed in.
Sorry if this is a bit vague, if you need more let me know? Or if it’s not your thing that’s totally fine too!
“Just stay,” Artanis sighed, throwing up her hands in defeat. “Clearly nothing I do will get you to leave my room, so you might as well stop pretending you’re packing up to go.”
Findaráto grinned at her. “Why, sister, how gracious you are!”
Makalaurë smirked and dropped his bag on her bed most dramatically. “However shall we thank you, O fairest maiden of the Noldor?”
Artanis scowled, snapping, “By shoving over, that’s how! This is my bed!”
“But Artë, it’s a sleepover,” Findaráto wheedled. “That means our illustrious cousin will be sleeping over you!”
“What in Arda do you m— Umfff!”
She never managed to finish her sentence, for as soon as she opened her mouth, both Makalaurë and Findaráto pounced, jumping on top of her in a fit of giggles one might expect from little children, not the grown néri they were. (Well, barely grown.)
Yet once she got her breath back, Artanis couldn’t help but laugh along. Even if Makalaurë was not her favorite cousin, she still loved him, and adored her biggest brother, and it was nice to act like carefree children again, if only just for one night.

🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Thanks for the ask, friend! Here's some M&M for you:
Maglor might once have said that his brother burned, that his heart was a slowly built fire that could be fanned into flames of wrath, given the right cause. But Maedhros had never burned as their father did. And now he did not burn at all. Rather, his wrath was cold. It gathered like dark storm clouds low on the horizon, howled like the winds of winter, and erupted like a blizzard in the mountain passes.
For every "🌹" received in my inbox I'll post one random sentence of a random WIP I'm currently writing.
#found this in my wips today while doing this game#not sure where i was going with it but i like the imagery#asks#dreamingthroughthenoise

3, 8, 13, and 14 for the ask game? 💚
(spread love asks)
Answered 3, 8 and 13 here!
14. A ship or character that you started liking because of someone else (give them/their works a shout out!)
That has to be Finarfin/Eönwë, which I had never thought twice about before @that-angry-noldo started writing for them. I adore them now and it’s all because of her!!! 💕

How about Celebrian and Nerdanel for the blorbo ask?
NERDANEL:
ooo okay so i'm about to have some spicy opinions but... Most fandom takes are incorrect. The fandom tends to be very very Feanorian-centric and very Feanorian-positive and I think her portrayal tends to be really affected as a result. I think a lot of takes have her as a perfect (or at the very least, very very good) mother, who stands by her children until the last, supports them even after they leave her, etc etc. Not to mention how weirdly often I've seen her getting back together with Feanor post-reembodiment. One of the things I find really interesting about her is specifically the fact that she choses to leave Feanor & does not go to middle earth. That she lives in the house of Indis, who her husband despises. That she, basically, turns away from him in every way she might. And I think a lot of the "Feanorians as a big happy family" takes kind of ignore that. (Let! Nerdanel! Be! Super! Divorced!)
BRAINROT!! My last two fics on ao3 will speak to this. Obsessed with her rn.
Celebrian:
I am, actually, normal about her.
She's neat. :) Her and Elrond are cute and sad. I don't realllyyy have strong feelings about her but I like her when she shows up.
Thank you for the ask!! <3
