Some of the other MLP sketches I did. Of course, only one of them is canon, since Dark never enters that World, but I wanted to practice a bit more.

And then we have Dark. So funny story, originally I defined his appearance as ‘having thick eyebrows’. Cause other than that, he was supposed to look like essentially a human version of Wolf. The original concept in Dark’s introduction to the storyline was that they were twins (which we are) but due to the Dreamer process, their souls were linked. So yeah.

I didn’t really draw Dark again until at least a year later, when the twin connection idea had been mostly scrapped. So at this point, Dark had become an actual Dreamer, but we decided to keep the “no-magic” idea. So instead Dark is tech-based, which I had some fun with in this drawing.

Now the next drawing pretty much set Dark’s appearance/outfit for the rest of time. As can be seen by the list, this was supposed to be Dark’s reference sheet, but as with Wolf’s, it’s now old and outdated. For example, he does not have music-based magic. That was added because we couldn’t figure out his third ability, and wanted to try and make him a bit more on level with the rest of the Dreamers, but later on decided it subtracted from his character. The powerful Dreamer part is from the idea that being a Dreamer was an ability in and of itself, which had something to do with creation and stuff. We cancelled that upon reflecting on the original concept of Dreamers.

The next drawing is actually the first appearance of the single lock of hair that’s part of Dark’s hairstyle. In previous drawings, he simply didn’t have any bangs, but we we redid that to add a bit more interest. (the idea came from when the creator kept complaining about how that one lock wouldn’t stay out of his face). This was also from when Dark was still around the same height as Wolf, due to the twin idea (I also got taller since this drawing, so....). 

This last one is pretty much his current appearance. He does wear different coloured shirts (similar to Wolf), and the jeans actually fade in colour over time (useful for determining the section of the timeline). But yeah, this is pretty much a drawing of the beginning of Dark’s arc, which I plan to work on throughout drawing everyone else’s stories. The headset does change forms, and he normally wears it as a small bluetooth earpiece.

So fun story, these two tend to interact a lot, not only because of their overlapping spheres of interest (being antisocial and doing research/science). But uh, they don’t always agree on how to handle certain things? Specifically....emotions and problems. Dark has an awful tendency of simply disappearing if he doesn’t want to deal with something, so this was a sketch of one time when Soulfire had enough of that and pinned him before he could flee.

Dark in his natural habitat. AKA surrounded by work, projects, and lots of notes. Everywhere. You’d think, considering his personality and stuff, his work space would be nice and neat. Nope. I mean, sure, he cleans up afterwards. But come in while he’s working? It’s impossible to navigate.

Character Design for Our Terrarium. Dark gets combined with the Cyborg, which was a rather interesting experience for him. He technically has cybernetic parts normally, but certainly not ones this obvious clunky.

This was supposed to be a drawing....for something? I can’t actually remember what on earth inspired this. But I lost inspiration for it while attempting to design the throne. Hence why he’s sitting in midair. Also, smol Wolf is an angry puppy.

Okay, I’m good now. So the original idea was that these two lived in a tower, which is very similar to what we have now, except for the fact that we decided that every single character we created also lived in that tower.

There was a reason why it had 133 floors.

Also, that character in the background is named Feather. She was an OC created for the TMNT fandom.

Heheh. Oh man, it’s been ages. These are the previous designs of Dark and Wolf. I’m still proud of the sword and whatever flying seat thing Dark is on, but oh man, I have improved a lot since then. Wing design, outfit design, muscle structure, by the gods I can draw shoes now, the list goes on.

....I have two more of these by the way.

Why Dark never smiles?

Wolf: Oh there’s a lot of reasons why we never see him smile, but I’m pretty certain the main one is because he’s surrounded by a bunch of hyper active teenage children. He’s not super social, and well, we tend to annoy the heck out of him. *laughs*

This is actually an idea I had that I could use to practice animation. So uh...yeah. This is sort of the first animation I’ve made.

(This was not Dark’s costume. I just wanted to draw him like this) Also, I can blame BaserBeanz, because he did essentially the same thing with a couple of his characters.

Dark has a tendency to multitask. And he usually drinks either coffee or hot chocolate while he works.

I’ve been trying out a new process of drawing, in which I sketch and draw it out on paper, then scan the drawing and redraw it using my drawing tablet. This and the uniform are my first tests using that.

Those blue zigzag stripes were supposed to be purple by the way. I thought they were, but I guess rendering it changed the colour. I’ll fix that next week.
