Channel Zero: The Dream Door Episodes 5 and 6

Never in my life did I think that I would be saying this, but crayons are creepy!! The last two episodes of Dream Door had sex, tears, blood, a baby, and the creepiest crayons I’ve ever seen.

It starts with Ian and Jill still at Ian’s summer home, and him teaching Jill how to control her powers. Unfortunately she doesn’t quite have the hang of it yet, and she creates the world’s most disgusting bunny.  We also find out that Ian is the one who made her dog, as a “welcome gift” and Jillian realizes that it’s the same as a stuffed toy she had when she was younger. That’s when things start to fall into place for Jill. While her, Ian and Tall Boy make their way home, Tom is busy discovering Ian’s secret, and by the time he confronts him, Jillian has already figured it out. What neither of them expected was for Ian to admit to killing their dad the night before. Jillian calls the cops, Ian confesses to all the murders, including those done by Pretzel Jack, and gets taken away, but with Tall boy around you know that didn’t last long.

Meanwhile Tom and Jill are making up the best way they know how, with steamy hot sex, that might have been a little too intense, because it creates a door, and what’s behind it is something neither of them expected. A half formed dying baby. Tom can’t handle it, and while Jillian is comforting the baby until it dies, Tom manages to get himself kidnaped by Ian, Tall Boy, and Ian’s crayon friends.

Jillian heads off to her father’s “ghost neighborhood” to confront Ian and save Tom, and that when we get our first real look at the Crayons. Creepy, small, wax dripping, and colorful, they happily stab a guard to death to show they are not playing around! Jillian eventually finds Tom and she tells him the only way they can beat Ian and his monsters is with her own, and it’s time to bring back Pretzel Jack!! It would have been a great plan, if she could have used some of Tom’s energy to help her, but in a weird turn of events, it turns out it isn’t really Tom, it’s an Ian made Tom that he’s controlling so he can use it to “be with” Jillian. Dude is twisted. Jillian beats down fake Tom, and real Tom shows up just in time to help kill him. I’m not sure what that would do to your mental health, but I have a feeling Tom is gonna need a whole lotta therapy when this is all over.

What comes next is a vicious psychological fight between half-siblings. Jillian brings back Pretzel Jack and he takes on Tall Boy and wins after sawing through the imaginary friend’s head. But they still need to keep Ian from creating other creatures, and the answer is simple, the have to kill him. This time, the married couple and Jack are on the same side. But those creepy Crayons still have Ian’s back, and he resurrects Tall Boy, who then takes out Pretzel jack! But before Tall Boy can do anything else, Tom and Jill both stab Ian together, and Tall Boy accidentally rushes him with the saw, ironically being the one to do him in. Killed by your own imaginary friend...that must really suck. With Ian’s death his creations and doors disappear, and Jill and Tom can go back to their happy therapy filled lives.

Fast forward into the future, and the couple has an adorable little girl....who can make her own doors. Does anyone else feel like they need a sequel?? I wanna know what comes out of her door!

This show was really good, and Channel Zero has 100% made me a fan. I can’t wait to see what season 5 brings, and I’m excited to go back and watch the previous seasons on SyFy.

Channel Zero: The Dream Door Episode 2

With the way that episode one of The Dream Door ended, waiting to watch the next episode was absolute torture! But before we get into episode two, can we take a minute to appreciate Troy James and the amazing job he does as Pretzel Jack! He somehow perfectly rides the line of creepy and dangerous while also coming off as protective and funny….depending on who you are of course.

Last episode we were given a few clues into the secrets that Tom and Jillian are keeping. Tom’s involved a mysterious woman, and Jillian’s was about her dad. We were also introduced to Pretzel Jack, a character that Jillian made up when she was younger...or at least thought she did, who is incredibly creepy to look at, and has no hesitation when it comes to murdering someone, especially when that person might be a threat to Jillian.

Episode two opens in the aftermath of Jason’s death, and after what Jillian has witnessed, it makes sense that she’s totally in shock. I mean, how would you feel if your childhood imaginary friend showed up out of the blue and killed your husbands best friend? Trying to make sense of it all, she heads back to her childhood home to investigate a few memories she has, and also starts confiding in, and getting closer to, her and Tom’s neighbor, Ian (Steven Robertson). We also find out that she’s seeing a therapist (Steven Weber), and although she feels comfortable telling him about Pretzel Jack, he’s not quite willing to believe that he’s real and not a manifestation of her distress...and who can blame him? At this point even us viewers aren’t sure he’s real. We also learn more about Tom’s secret, and the mysterious woman, who happens to be a therapist that he’s been seeing. Her methods and professionalism are questionable at best, but she has a connection to his big secret, so it makes sense why he keeps going back. This episode spilled a lot of secrets that the first episode hinted at, and was just as action packed in the last five minutes. More than anything else at this point I’m curious about Pretzel Jack. Who, or what he really is. Where he came from. What connection him and Jillian have, and why. And what’s up with the flickering lights? Are they how she calls him? Like some kind of messed up Pretzel Jack signal?? I need answers!
