Random Headcannon #5!
This one is just a random one-off HC based on one line.
Quacking in Puckworld society is considered rude in mixed company.
Nosedive at the beginning of the show says that Drake DuCaine was “the most righteous duck to ever quack”, but never mentions that word again, nor does it ever come up. Which you think someone would ask about since, well, duck aliens. The whole thing of “if it walks, talks, and quacks like a duck”?
Tumblr media
This one is more on the dumb side, but just imagine if it was a thing. Some awkward teenager trying to get a date randomly quacks at the other they’re trying to ask out and they’re deemed as rude.
Nothing major this time, more on the silly side of headcanons.

Despondent Dawn
Nosedive bounded into the kitchen, barely giving the other occupants a glance as he rooted through a cabinet, coming up with the most sugar-filled cereal he could find. He filled a bowl and added milk, then very carefully carried the near-overflowing bowl to the table. He shoveled a mouthful into his beak—and then he looked up.
His brother sat next to him, but didn't look like he was really awake yet. He hadn't even said "Morning, baby bro," as he normally did. The Mask of Drake DuCaine sat, all but forgotten, on the table before him, and Wildwing was half-heartedly chewing on a cream cheese bagel.
Mallory was rather violently stabbing the fruit salad she was eating. When she noticed Nosedive looking at her, she glared at him.
Tanya removed her glasses and rubbed her eyes, yawned, and otherwise ignored the rest of the team.
Grin... well, Grin was Grin. The steam rising from the mug he held hinted at the green tea he undoubtedly was nursing.
But Duke...
The former thief was currently slumped over the table, his face buried in his arms. He started to snore, and Nosedive struggled not to laugh.
"Out of coffee again, huh?"

SO-
Much like Dorothy Gale, the story starts with the Ducks being whisked away from their home by forces out of their control. The dimensional gateways we see tend to act like tornadoes, with the most tornado-like portal occurring in Dungeons and Ducks, which has two explicit references to The Wizard of Oz (“I’ll get you my pretty, and your little ducks, too!” “Don’t tell me, ‘There’s no place like home’.”)
I propose that Mighty Ducks has multiple other parallels to the original story.
Along with referencing The Wizard of Oz, Dungeons and Ducks is also where we meet this guy:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Borg, much like the Scarecrow, is the first friend the Ducks make in the strange magical land they’ve been transported to. We first see him fighting off a bird creature, much like how a scarecrow’s purpose is to scare off birds. Borg’s kingdom has been taken over by a fire-breathing sorcerer, who is defeated by the Ducks blasting him with water.
Sounds familiar, doesn’t it:
Tumblr media
I can hear you saying, “But all of that just makes Dungeons and Ducks an allusion to The Wizard of Oz! How does any of this apply to the rest of the series?”
I’m so glad you asked.
The Tin Man
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The second friend Dorothy makes is the Tin Man, who’s all rusted over when they meet. Tanya undoes Dragaunus’s programming, freeing B.R.A.W.N., much like how Dorothy and the Scarecrow oil up the Tin Man so he can move again.
The Cowardly Lion
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kazor picks on the prisoners in Hockeydome to hide his own fear, just as the Cowardly Lion did with weaker travelers who happened into the Forest. Duke’s reaction to Kazor once they come face to face parallels Dorothy’s response to the Lion’s behavior, with Duke shoving Kazor into the boards with his stick and Dorothy slapping the Lion on the nose. Even the words are similar: “Serves you right! What goes around comes around!” -> “Shame on you!”. After seeing the Cowardly Lion’s true fearful nature and shame for his actions, Dorothy and co. decide to help him out and take him with them. Similarly, Duke saves Kazor’s life and Wildwing later asks him to come with them to Earth.
There are some smaller aspects that parallel Oz as well, such as how Asteroth’s homunculi and Dragaunus’s mutants/droids can be seen as representing the Winged Monkeys. I’d also argue that Drake DuCaine’s Mask is an allegory for Dorothy’s Ruby Slippers (Fun fact: in the book, the slippers are actually silver; silver and gold, anyone?). Not to mention the fact that the Saurians get dumped in still-sunk Atlantis, receiving their own defeat-by-water. (I was also going to argue that Phil alludes to the Wizard, but now I realize that Dr. Hookerman could also fit the role.)
Can you tell I love parallels and am also a RWBY fan?
Are you guys ready for me to drop a bomb?
MDTAS is a spaced out allusion to The Wizard of Oz.

Duckvember 2020
--Ponder--
Linking to an old playlist of mine BUT also including why I have these songs on there. Kinda fits the ponder theme okay. I’m trying I’m so behind here *SOB*
https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL-BLrUhg7cOKMsu8bGh4CBh5C3EVXCUpy
This is my generic duck feels playlist I use when writing but I often have so many other playlists I use it's insaneeee but this is a nice beginning base until I get a feel for a story to make its own playlist haaaa.
**Joywave - Bad Dreams***
-Ominous feel that some shady end of the world stuff is happening song. One of the main things I put this song to is Magica having a premonition of something bad is going to happen. But she doesn’t have the best rep with powerful magic types and with hero types so she has to make a ragtag team willing to help her. Haaa. Mind you in my headcanon the De Spell family line started by a witch that had a really good future sight so Magica takes it seriously and I GUESS she has to like… stop the world from ending.
**M83 ft. HAIM - Holes in the Sky***
-Another ominous oh crap bad stuff is happening song wheee. I had an idea that I ended up using in a Duckverse RP of some of the alien hats from Darkwing being a different set of alien hats that were actual powerful witches. The RP I ended up having was for a parody of Hocus Pocus. What I attach this song to is where the hat set grab Magica, Gladstone, and an OC thats a powerful De Spell sibling (that's a whole other story.) That leaves Poe to defeat them save the Earth the usual. My headcanon for Poe is he cannot cast magic but has a wide knowledge of artifacts and spells. Could arm himself with some good magical artifacts. He ALSO would make a ragtag team to try to stop the 3 most powerful magic based people controlled by alien hats. That team would include Fethry and Gyro lol. Notice this song is a lot more postive than Magica’s Bad Dreams song because Poe’s being more positive about getting it done. Magica’s more ‘well we’re going to die anyways might as well TRY” and Poe is ‘ WE’RE GONNA DO THIS AND WE’RE GONNA MAKE IT OMG. Once I get over this crippling depression that I’m useless. Whee.”
**Do You Realize - Ursine Vulpine***
-Vague sad song for sad things. Main reason I had this song is for my Mighty Ducks the Animated Series headcanons for Drake Ducaine. I pretty much kill off all this family and friends in the past. You know, the war, saving stuff. SACRIFICING THEMSELVES SO HE CAN LIVE. His young daughter makes it. Am I not merciful.
**My Tears are Becoming the Sea - M83***
-Really acidy trippy sad song. Great for fighting elder gods. For my main RPing OC’s on Duckverse this goes with some scenes of their past. Other main thing I use it for is Mighty Ducks the Animated Series I have it for Wildwing’s death.. Haaaa. I kill him off in his 60’s when he has to help save the 2nd Gen team (All the kids of the first team.) Well you know. He’s like the only duck chars I kill off ‘youngish.’ I dunno why most of these story ideas came in high school FRICK.
**In A Heartbeat - In the House***
-I have loved this song from the second it was in 28 Days Later. I do not have one defined story line plot or character this goes to. I would put it on every song list I had if I felt like I could get away from it. EXCELLENT ATMOSPHERE.
**The Darkest Evening of the Year***
-Another great ominous atmosphere song. I stick this one with Gladstone but don’t put it on my actual Gladstone playlist for being too dark?!? I put it with him finding out what I headcanon the origins of his luck. AND OH BOY. I really want to give the vibe of that scene like some suspense/horror energy let me tell you.
**No Time for Caution - Hans Zimmer***
-Great like, ‘team prepares to fight a boss fight’ type music. Let's do this. We can fight an elder god. LETS GO!!!! But still that bit of dark tone like - hmmm we may not be successful. Ahhhhh.I also think of Tanya from Mighty Ducks working late fixing something or lawd taking care of a teammate gotta find a cure for something. They just gave this woman all the jobs. AGH.
**Happiness Does Not Wait - Olafur Arnalds***
-A sad yet happy tune. That mix of energy. This one I put with Grandma Duck. In my headcanon all her adult kids have since past but you know all her grandkids visit all the time. It's kinda weird that like, the whole gen in between was wiped out but uh, I have a reason plotted out for that. But you know, Grandma little sad all her kids are gone but sees them in her now adult grandkids ahhh.
**Low Gravity - Hugo Kant***
-Actually ModMad suggested this one to me when I shared this playlist with them when they made the “Over the Rainbow’ comic. Shared it because it really fit this playlist so I could not  not share ahhh. Anyways. That's one of my top fav comics by Modmad, and actually in an unrelated way inspired some of the backstory for the two main OC’s I RP in Duckverse. Wheeee.
**Everything You Do is a Balloon - Boards of Canada***
-A good ominous ‘the hero has won but at what cost’ energy. This is a song I’ve had for ages and directly put to the abuse I put Drake Ducaine through. I’m so sorry. Weh. I literally have a separate playlist that is Drake Ducaine/Wildwing anxiety cuz I headcanon Wildwing the reincarnate of Drake Ducaine because of COURSE.
**Goodbye to a World - Small Dust/Porter Robinson Cover***
-I just love music like this. First used this song for Mighty Ducks because the previous life of Drake Ducaine I had be a little duck boy that showed kindness to a Saurian Goddess and she ended up taking the Duck side in whatever fight went down and well the rest is history which will I ever write a story for I dunno. And in the next life as Drake Ducaine the Goddess also reincarnated in a mortal body so they get to work together again yay. This is also one of the main themes I use for my Duck OC’s Felicity and Faustina. In RP land uh they’re from an alternate universe that got all ate up by an elder god and they were the only two survivors cuz some weird luck and magic runs in their family. Their version is a more trippy version here:  https://youtu.be/HzuHAMg1Hng OH WAIT I’M WRONG THEIR MAIN THEME IS A DIFFERENT PORTER ROBINSON SONG HAAA still enjoy.
**Soldier - Fleurie***
-I use this song several times for Gladstone. Mainly for one story I DO plan to write someday I have so many parts of it done. Anyways he screws up big time and has to fix a problem while he still have luck that works on him, he needs to actually do something to solve the problem and its grueling and takes  a long time and travel around the world and bad stuff just happening to those around him and AHHH. Anyways.  Also a good song for Djinn in new Ducktales theres stories I have reason for his for him let me tell you someday. Ha.
**Battle Cry - Imagine Dragons***
-A great mello fight song for everything. Just. Some good shit. Heroes making sacrifices. Stuff going down. Hidden powers having to be used getting exposed but you GOTTA SAVE THE WORLD.
**Elephant Survival - Emancipator***
-A good song for villains to think about their feelings. I loved this song when I came across it. I put it to my headcanon for Negaverse Gladstone. And a little Gladstone in there too. There is a darker mix here: https://youtu.be/59A3k8tpPMI
**Do You Realize - The Flaming Lips***
-This song again but with a slight positive energy?!? Dying and seeing loved ones that passed on kinda vibe. BUT ALSO I abuse reincarnation tropes so bad. This is a good reincarnation trope song. Lawd.
**Saturn - Sleeping at Last***
-Roll Credits energy to a movie that ended not happy but not sad just the normal in between of life. There is a really good Poe De Spell short story I need to finish that makes me think of this song. I also put it to Drake Ducaine who supposedly dies of old age having saved and rebuilt Puckworld Society. That's a lot of pressure to put on a guy y’all. Also fits my abuse of reincarnate trope abuse. Also for some Djinn x Gene okay like they’re gonna adopt a lot of kids and all those kids are going to write stuff down to their kids like how Djinn writes stuff down and they’re gonna tell stories of their great great great great great grandparents Djinn and Gene forever OKAY.
Anyways, have some feels y'all.

Usagi is a huge fan of the Mighty Ducks. She has regular rant fests with Wildwing and the Scouts regularly team up with the Ducks to battle the Saurians. Usagi sheepishly admits she had been Sailor Moon during the Silver Millennium but she had been trained not to fight Youma but the Saurians with Drake Ducaine who was her half brother through her mother. She even deals with the worm to save Canard. After the defeat of the Saurians, the Ducks stay on Earth and are the only hockey team endorsed by the Royal Family in Crystal Tokyo's time. No one knows why and Neo Queen Serenity isn't talking.

Duckvember2021 #11: Mother
Tumblr media
Before my twin could reply to this something from Duke seemed to catch everyone's attention, "Great Mother that's quite a storm."
"Great Mother?" I looked to him curiously, sitting beside him with my legs tucked beneath me.
"Oh sorry, I was jus' thinkin' out loud," he half chuckled.
Then Wildwing mentioned quietly, "Wow...I haven't really heard anyone mention her since before the invasion."
"Her?" I attempted again.
"Oh, that's right, you probably aren't familiar with her," Wildwing realized, "She's our Goddess on Puck World, the deity a lot of ducks believe in."
"She watches over everyone of us as her children," Duke told me with a nervous, light smile.
"Mom had an altar for her back home that she would pray to," Nosedive mentioned, "I guess you might not have seen it."
Wildwing gave a soft laugh, "I seem to recall mom praying to it a lot over you little brother."
"Very funny," Nosedive retorted while leaning back against his pillow across from me on his sleeping bag.
"Would you like to hear about her Heart?" Wildwing then asked, seeing my curiosity surely peeking.
"Please?" I requested.
Looking around the room to one another I could feel a hesitation lingering. Then the drake sitting beside me took a breath and said softly, "I don't mind tellin' her story."
With that everyone seemed to settle into their spots. Mallory, who had been watching the storm out front, now stretched out along her blanket with her head propped up with one hand. Tanya sat up with her legs tucked beside her and a hand supporting her up. Grin sat with his legs crossed and listened carefully as usual. Wildwing looked to his brother a moment, as though eager and nervous at the same time. While Nosedive still leaned back with his arms folded over his chest. Beside me Duke sat with right knee up to rest his arm over, leaning against the panel before straightening up a bit and clearing his throat. Sitting next to him I had my legs tucked under me while I leaned towards, but not against him, with my hand propping me up in a sitting position.
"Centuries ago, well before the time of Drake Ducaine and his battle with the Saurian Overlords, there was a young woman who wanted nothing more than to have children to care for. Yet through life she'd found this wasn't to be. No one quite knows whether it was due to bein' barren, or if the drake she loved wasn't able or willin', or she'd even had a love to bare his child...None the less she'd never been able to have this wish fulfilled.
One day while wanderin' between Puck World's earliest towns she found an abandoned nest of eggs. Try as she might she could not find the mother or father, nor anyone to help her care for them. It was durin' the cold season too, so without someone to take them in they would perish in the night. So...she took those eggs an' rebuilt their nest with whatever she could find, spare cloth, her cloak, anythin' she could use at all were put into that nest...even...her own feathers. An' she stayed with those eggs, findin' a small, tightly woven grove of trees, and a large oak's base for shelter beneath it's canopy an' the trunks of the grove to shield them from the wind. Usin' her own body she kept those eggs warm, usin' more an' more feathers to protect them from the snow fallin' over them. Her own body shook from cold, but she wouldn't dare move to expose those eggs to the cold. This she repeated night by night, usin' the day to forage for food an' gather more materials for warmth. All through the remainder of that winter she did this. As her feathers grew back she would use them again to keep that nest as warm an' dry as possible.
Then...one mornin'...as the sun greeted her with it's gentle warmth, haroldin' the spring finally findin' her an' those eggs...she felt somethin' movin' beside her. With widened eyes she looked to see the eggs beginnin' to crack. Finally, after all those weeks of freezin' an' near starvin', her efforts were rewarded as each an' every one of those eggs hatched. Within them she found hatchlings of varying feathers lookin' up at her with eyes knowin' that she was their mother an' that she loved them. It's said that day that she was not only rewarded with the wish she'd always yearned for, but somethin' much greater. For that light that had greeted her then bathed her in it's warmth, revivin' her feathers an' givin' her a dress both radiant an' fittin' for a devoted mother. For she decided that day, that she would treat all of us as her children as she had those hatchlings. No matter what they grew up to become...she would always love them as her own. An' so she did, through the years devotin' herself to those first hatchlings an' countless others that followed. Even when her body was said to have long ago perished, the last of her strength given to keep more of her children warm, that light returned an' took her with it so that she could continue to do jus' that...Thus becomin' the Great Mother of Ducks, protectin' her children...an' lovin' us no matter what she had to do, who we were, or who we would become."
The silence that filled the space between all of us was only interrupted by the pouring rain, and thunder drifting in the distance. Carefully looking around I found Tanya drying the inside of her glasses. Wildwing gave a nod to Nosedive who was now hugging one of his pillows. Grin closed his eyes as though making a prayer himself, or at least meditating on those thoughts. Mallory wiped her eyes before clearing her throat and then sitting up to rest a hand on Tanya's shoulder. While I reached over to close a hand over Duke's...before realizing I was already was doing that.
Then I remembered when he had said "No matter what they grew up to become..." had spurred this as I thought I had just barely caught him choking back something at that moment. Yet he'd continued on as if he hadn't. Glancing at me now he knew, yet said nothing. Instead he shifted his hand slightly to brush his thumb over my fingers gently as he held my hand in turn.
"It's been a long time since I'd heard her full story," Mallory commented solemnly.
"I guess I didn't get a chance to hear about her back on Puck World," I tried to recall.
"You weren't living with us long before...before the invasion," Wildwing realized.
"Do you remember anything like this from your world here Heart?" Tanya asked curiously, trying to shake her own melancholy nature now.
I shook my head, "I don't...I've heard things in passing in the city, but nothing rings a bell."
Duke looked to me when I'd said this and after a moment he offered, "We're happy to share her with you Heart."
"I'm not a duck...?" I mentioned a bit taken back by this.
"No, but aren't you their sister?"Mallory gestured towards Wildwing and then Nosedive with an encouraging smile.
I nodded.
"Then that's all that really matters here," Grin spoke up with a firm smile, "If you're considered to be their sibling, then you are surely considered one of her daughters."
With a growing smile washing over me I looked to them and softly breathed, "Thank you..."
Glancing up at Duke I couldn't help but notice a strengthening smile of his own showing.

The First Face-Off: Part Two
I am going to sit here and just vibe through every intro sequence.
The skating sound FX from said intro are making me nostalgic for a game I haven't played in ten years. Maybe I should dig out my old skates this winter...
The Ducks fly pretty low over Anaheim before they land and start exploring. How did nobody see them?
On that note, how did nobody notice that a local mountain suddenly had it's peak back?!
None of these humans at the Anaheim Mall are looking twice at the Ducks, with the exception of Thrash, Mookie, and that one guy at Weiner World who got the mustard scared out of him.
And Phil.
Literally the only reason people seem scared of the Ducks is because they're startled. With the exception of Weiner Guy, everyone gets real chill about aliens real quick.
It may have been a water gun, but Wildwing should've known better than to pull the trigger on a mysterious weapon while it was pointing straight at the face of one of his friends.
I really like that you don't hear any complaints about a co-ed hockey team. That went over my head as a kid, but I appreciate it now.
It might seem unrealistic for the city to rally behind a team of aliens from another dimension within, like, a week, but the people of Anaheim are probably just ecstatic to have a winning team to cheer for again.
"Next time, wombats. They're easier to train." Uh, Phil? Do you have something to tell us??
Human update: Klegghorn dips his hot dogs - bun and all - into his milkshakes. Fries I can understand, but hot dogs?? Gross.
Kudos to Duke for being the first on the team to whip off his seatbelt and vouch for pausing the Saurian search to stop a biker gang from mugging a random couple.
What kind of bank keeps that many gold bars just sitting on shelves in its vault??
Also, how did these ninja wannabes get that laser into the bank, and undetected, no less? It's WAY bigger than the door!
Still having a hella good time with the nostalgia from this era of animation.
Nobody is stopping Nosedive from slinging around all these cheesy one-liners, and I have to believe that the rest of the team is cool with it.
Tanya built an absolutely MASSIVE supercomputer the size of a house in the span of about one night.
Wildwing getting fed up with Phil's complaining and dragging him along on the mission is both dangerous and hilarious.
"I've got to sue somebody tomorrow morning!" Okay, what exactly IS Phil? Team manager? Stadium-retained lawyer??
Human update: Ketsup on plain cake donuts?! Come on, Klegghorn! Where's your sense of taste?!
Phil freaking out as the Raptor chases the Aerowing is 100% realistic and relatable.
The sound of Wraith's spell deflecting off of Duke's sword is just...! *chef's kiss*
"When we're over the city, blast it into rubble!" Ahh, so 'warmongering' is Dragonus' D&D flaw...
Considering that the animators don't outline Dragonus when he's invisible for the audience's benefit, the scene of Wildwing getting his ass kicked by said invisible Saurien is animated pretty darn well.
Both Canard and Wildwing's voices deepen when they wear the Mask, so that theory going around (oh god I forgot who posted it first I need to look that up) about the Mask being possessed by the Spirit of Drake DuCain has some evidence behind it.
GRIM SMASH
HOW did the Raptor NOT smash into the ground? It was falling out of the sky!!
Chameleon: *leans on the One Button That Should Not Be Pressed, accidentally unveils the Raptor's existence to the city*
Dragonus: *smacks Chameleon off the button & presses it again like he's dealing with a cheeky toddler* I TOLD YOU NEVER TO PUSH THAT BUTTON!
