Rhaenyra tried to avoid bloodshed at all costs, she showed mercy, she tried to reason with the enemy, she literally infiltrated the city to have peace. All legitimacy of the Greens' claim was undone in seconds and Rhaenyra realizes that there is no other way forward than war.
Alicent's face when she realized that he misunderstood Viserys. He was talking about the Conqueror and not about his son. Which means that the greens' claim to the throne is flawed from origin.

Rhaenyra does have reason or history to feel that Daemon is untrustworthy with handling business for her or working with her instead of against her needs bc he's abandoned her at least twice--the Brothel in the midst of anyone who could see and report her as well as when he didn't at least go to her to settle both this wrong and what they'd do to talk to Viserys together after the blow up. And IF you really consider the 10th episode as a logically valid episode (bc of the choking scene but other stuff too) to be included in this, he does blow up at her i front of several of her present and available lords which is not good for her image of authority when as a woman she's already having to reduce the idea of his over powering her.
So show!her hasn't 100% trusted him, but has over others partly for necessity and partly bc she has felt the sameness of character and need for that freedom-family matrix that is different for each but keenly felt and recognized by each other.
She always loved him and and still does; in her youth, she he could do little to really do "wrong" and saw him as a sort of "haven" from social pressures and the pressure of her father's disapproval or misdirection. show!Daemon seemed to have felt buoyed by such attentions and faith and has a like feeling for her and her abilities to lead though that even is not really explored and expounded on in the show (otherwise he wouldn't go so hard for her and try to kill a nephew for her). And it's understandable that she start distrusting his willingness to actually act and support her in the way she thinks he should or try to make him more...receptive? to her will and assure he will not "abandon" her again to clean up messes he makes form not truly listening or being amenable to her will.
So I'm still confused over their fight bc it should have been more about him not taking her direction more than a fear that he's just using her for access to the throne, and it really doesn't help that we have no scenes of what a "normal" life at Dragonstone was for them and their family. My head is swimming rewatching it.
*7/14/24* And I forgot to include that Daemon actually leaving for Harrenhal before getting their particulars and priorities in order, making any sort of plan as to how he's going to "make it up" or fulfill...not even him yelling out something along the lines of "watch me" concerning Harrenhal and his intent is insane even for him, this version. Again, does the show expect me to think Rhaenyra often has to plan around these events he causes whenever they fight and he crashes out? This is not a YA novel where the MC spontaneously goes off and abandon their friends for a spiritual journey, these two are a married couple fighting in a war and supposedly making plans...but HotD certainly made it so.

oh i see the hotd fandom has quickly reached the levels of racism in the asoiaf fandom concerning non-white/non-valyrian characters; how majority fandom ships a problematic white couple at the expense of the poc around them and how it’s detrimental to the narrative. ah yes, i am familiar with your game…unfortunately

Hot tempters soothed by hot water, leading to hot sex, as is the Targaryen way.
(hot take (?) but the bath scene with Viserys in GoT S1E4 is the sexiest scene in the entire franchise so here is my attempt to pretend it actually involved Daemyra.)
(more edits here! if you repost please link back to this, or if you use it for a fic link my Ao3.)

I would love a story where Rhaenyra was older and the queen of Westeros and had to deal with young Daemon changing their roles..

They didn't have Lucerys's body for the funeral so to represent his whole life, Jace used his newborn clothes, Joffrey his toy as a child, Rhaenyra his clothes as an adult...

unpopular opinion
I firmly believe that Rhaenyra wasn't fit to be queen, not because she was a girl – that notion is just absurd. What people seem to have forgotten is that it's not one's physical attributes that determine their ability to rule, but rather their intellect, their morals, and their dedication to their kingdom.
Her most significant disadvantage was her father's incompetence. She would have had a better chance of reigning as queen if she had become Daemon's wife and he was named the heir. That arrangement could have been far more effective.
For those who argue that Daemon wouldn't be a good king due to his restlessness and chaos, I believe those qualities would have made him an excellent ruler. He wouldn't have allowed issues to fester for too long and would have actively worked to address them swiftly. Moreover, with two Targaryens and their pure Targaryen children in line for succession, there would have been no need for Viserys to remarry.
While I understand that Rhaenyra didn't want to marry, she had a unique opportunity to see her future kingdom. Instead of making strategic alliances and rallying supporters, she spent her entire tour sulking, akin to a child denied her favorite toy. Considering the era she lived in, where most women had no say in their choice of spouse, her insistence on picking her own husband seems somewhat unreasonable. Even her uncle didn't have that privilege. So why was she throwing temper tantrums?
Let's not even get started on the whole bastard situation, shall we? I mean, why would you even do that? Infidelity aside, the real problem was that the child didn't even remotely resemble you, let alone your husband. But here's where I think Daemon's true love for Rhaenyra shines through. He was willing to accept her bastards as future kings, which speaks volumes about his devotion. However, if we step into a more realistic scenario, imagine if Daemon returned from Pentos, saw Rhaenyra's children, and said, 'No way I'm bowing to any of them.' What if he decided, 'I won't bow to the Hightowers either. It seems I'll need to form a third party and claim the throne for myself, making my daughter the queen.' How different things could have been!
I can almost accept all the points above, but then her father passed away, her brother usurped her crown, and she allowed Otto Hightower to leave Dragonstone alive. I mean, seriously, what was she thinking? That man was the source of 80 percent of her problems, and she just let him go. There was a moment when I wished Daemon had said, 'I'm going to deal with him now and ask for forgiveness later.' That was one of those times.
If none of this had happened, and she had simply been crowned queen, Rhaenyra would have been a second Viserys. She would have spent her time trying to fill Viserys' shoes, just as he tried to fit into Jaehaerys' shoes.
-so this got a little bit out of hand, but these are just my opinions, so please don't judge me too much-
