A lot of jonerys brushed the importance of RLJ, like it wasn’t even matter to the story, the recent post that come to my attention was this, that said:
”We’re not even sure anyone will end up knowing about RLJ.”
@thelawyerthatwaspromised already explained it thoroughly in the reblog of that post about how important RLJ to the story, now let see from another perspective. In the clip from Comic Con 2014, David said that one of the reason why GRRM trust those two to adapt ASoIaF series were because they knew who Jon’s mother was, GRRM think that D&Dan could see the hints and foreshadows that he lay in his story, one of the important thing that come to their three hours conversation was RLJ.
The funny thing was, as I read the tag of the OP, it said that Jon and Sansa’s union is just a ridiculous theory from jonsas that want them to be together (that it was just because of our shipping goggles), but the truth is, with them ignoring RLJ, they want to eliminate the possibility of a huge boulder (a mountain size of boulder to be precise) that going to crashed their ship, they want:
Jon and Dany to just keep having sex without ever know that they are aunt and nephew.
Dany would never know that Jon is the rightful heir to The Iron Throne.
Jon never knew that the reason why his Grandpa Rick and his Uncle Bran died was because his crazy Grandpa Aerys burn and strangled them to death because his father eloped with his teenage mother without care of the world. (Damn... That’s a lot to take, even for Jon)
Dany to never knew about Rhaegar’s surviving son because that means her sole purposes to go to Westeros, (the Iron throne) was never hers in the first place.
Now let’s recap the times where RLJ revealed to the audience:
[more under the cut]
Season 6 episode 3, Tower of Joy. This episode got everybody hyped up about RLJ, book readers (presumably) smugly said “I knew it!” as they twirled their champagne glass while the clueless GA scratching their heads in confusion because Bran’s vision got interrupted before the final reveal.
Season 6 episode 10, The Winds of Winter. It is clear now that Jon was not Ned Stark bastard, but Lyanna’s. There is still a debate about Jon’s legitimacy but the writers didn’t put it here because it wasn’t important (yet) to reveal Jon’s legitimacy in this episode, I said this because before this scene, I was still weirded out by Jon and Sansa chemistry and I was still in denial with the whole RLJ thing, and after I know the truth, the first thing that come into my mind was: “Well look at that! Jon is not Sansa’s brother, their odd sexual tension was served purposed to the story after all! they could marry each other now. Jon could be a Stark in name by marrying Sansa. It all make sense...” The RLJ reveal only limited to his parentage, because this is all we need to know for now.
Season 7 episode 5, Eastwatch. Gilly make a wonderful discovery when she accidentally reading about Rhaegar annulment, (this is the scene where I completely despise Rhaeghar, that asshole abandoned his wife and children ffs!) this is the episode before Jon and Beric’s meaningful conversation that lead Jon to said “I am the shield that guards the realms of men.” and before Jon bend the knee to Dany. For me, they want viewers to be prepared about how the power struggle between Jon and Dany would played out. Jon never want to be a king, he only did it to protect his people while Dany want the Iron Throne because she thought it was her birthright. This reveal could open the talk of Jon’s legitimacy, but it would be a very short talk, since the only plausible reason of how papa asshole annulled his previous marriage, was because he wants Lyanna’s child to be a true Targaryen heir. (Ever heard of something called divorce? you dipshit!)
Season 7 episode 7, The Dragon and The Wolf. This is where EVERYTHING come to the light. HE IS NOT NED STARK BASTARD, HE IS -BY NAME- A TARGARYEN, HE IS THE HEIR TO THE IRON THRONE.
There was no room for a debate whether Jon and Dany wasn’t nephew and aunt or whether Jon was Rhaeghar’s bastard or not. One of the fascinating thing about this scene was, when bran said “He’s the heir to the iron throne.” right when Jon flipped Dany position when he have sex with her.

Don’t you think it could be a hint that said, Jon have more claim to the throne in the IT than Dany? But I’m leaving this scene to professional meta writers so I’m not going to analysed this scene any further. (I wrote about their boatbang in this post before comparing their scene with other romantic scene from different show).
As a passionate casual viewers, this scene looks very important, and jonerys just reduce it into disney love story, just picking the bit where Bran Said “(Rhaeghar) love her and (Lyanna) love him” (picking up as a hint about how jon and dany love each other) and ignore ALL the important details, like how weird was it to watch your OTP unknowingly fucking their aunt/nephew while bran doing a VO about it. (their incest “love story” weren’t even the good one. Accidental incest, especially with a lack of chemistry like them, is just depressing.)
It was not just once or twice, but FOUR TIMES they reveal RLJ to the audience, it took a BIG reach to ignore all of that.
She saved him, she earned his pledge.
Okay, I’m actually really tired with this shit. She brought this on herself, Viserion death was in her hand. I said and I said agan: THAT STUPID WIGHT HUNT HAPPEN IN THE FIRST PLACE BECAUSE SHE WANTS A CEASEFIRE FROM CERSEI. She’s afraid that if she ride north, Cersei would took the dragonstone, the reach and any area that she already conquer. In spite of everything Jon did to convince her, the drawing in the cave, the trust he earned from drogon when he pet him, the letter from Bran, SHE STILL WON’T BELIEVE HIM!
See? SEE?? She Didn’t Fucking Save Him!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The great Daenerys herself said that she didn’t trust Jon about the whole Night King thing, what does that tell you? SHE WANTS A PROOF, and how Jon could proof it? BY DOING A STUPID WIGHT HUNT!
If she trusted Jon from the beginning, Viserion would still be alive, NK would not use him (or her, idk viserion gender) to destroying the wall. She brought it on herself. (I actually already write about it in this post if any of you interested to read it, it’s the same thing basically.)
Before any of you talking shit about how I stalked jonerys tag, the answer is fuck no, I found it because the person that I followed reblog their post and I assumed that she found it because the OP tag their post #sansa stark.
By saying Dany saved Jon, that means Uncle Benjen died for nothing, you just disrespecting his name without knowing, just like how Dany (and Tyrion for that matter) disrespecting the validity of Robb as the last King in the North before Jon. How many starks that you’re going to ignore so that Daenerys could become the savior that you all want her to be?
