Can I actually read these?

They are perfectly legible and easy to understand.

The translation itself was a multi-step process. I had to spend months collecting the originals in Chinese, researching, using different translators and even carefully training an AI with a huge lore glossary, then comparing the results of each method to make sure that I didn't leave anything out or something was misunderstood.

It might still have small errors here and there (feel free to let me know if you find one and I'll fix it promptly).

I spent a long time searching for mistakes or inconsistencies and fixing them. Regardless, I personally think the end result is very good, and I would actually recommend reading them now, especially when compared to the confusing google translations of the past few years.

Are these the canon ones?

Regarding the version of the novels that was used, for Dragon Raja I - III, since I don't have access to the revised editions, I used the originals, then added some of the revised edition changes myself to keep them consistent with the new canon.

Dragon King is a canon book, it takes place right after Dragon Raja III.

We're still waiting for Dragon King 2 to come out in China.

Why are there 4 links that say "Dragon Raja III"?

The story of Dragon Raja III is told in three books (Beginning, Middle and End). However, "End" was so long that I had to split it in two documents because I hit the character limit in google docs). Oh well.

Anitu is the word for ritual worship across the Sword Isles. Sometimes, it also refers to the gods, souls, and ancestors worshipped to: Anito, Hanitu, hantu. They all arrive from a shared culture in the distant past when even gods were not born.

Anitu is less of an organized religion and more of a catch-all term for most faiths in the Isles, where most of them practice ancestor veneration, sacred worship nature, and ardent ritualism. Each banwa might not even call what they do “anitu” and might refer to it as some other word in their language: in North Rusunuga it is called pagsamba, while in the Eastern Jamiyin Kulisa’s Arrows it is referred to as Qiparjeyuhun, which is just “faith” or belief.  For the most part, only those in Gatusan’s mandala of effect recognizes Anitu as a term for a larger belief form.

The most prominent form of Anitu is Kangdayanon Anitu, which is the one practiced in the Gatusan Mahamandala’s center of power, Kangdaya. This version of Anitu has fully syncretized the Saiwa branch of Ashinin Religion, which brought the idea of a fully fledged pantheon and the idea of cosmic forces of gods in this realm. One important syncretism is the adoption of some ancestors turned into Gods, who are performed rituals to. One such god is Apung Makangayaw, the Dragon of Raiding, worshipped as a distant ancestor of Amihan, who became Rani Amiyah, the queen that Shri Bishaya married into to stake his claim into the island of Tauhaw. The gods Jamiyun Kulisa and Indira Suga also arrive from Saiwa Ashinin. 

Another important syncretism is the understanding of a cosmic soul, or a supreme oversoul. This is meant to be Siwa, but that name was quickly indigenized and understood to be Laon, the Ancient One, the name of the tallest mountain that can be seen from Tauhaw, Kanglaon. Laon means old, aged, ancient. It is said that Laon is THE Ancestor, from where all things arise.

Another important aspect brought in by Saiwa is the construction of grand temples meant to emulate the stories of the gods both celestial and chthonic. By creating these they believe they are bringing in Favor and Merit, making their lives more fortunate and enriching them with good omens. An important belief, when in the Sword Isles, as every city is subject to the sacred whims of the souls of the world—hurricanes, typhoons, tsunamis, earthquakes, droughts, thunderstorms. 

The word in Kangdayanon Anitu for temple is MAGDANTANG, and smaller versions of these temples are known as lantangan. Natural sites are worshipped and offered to as if they were magdantang. This is why every lake, mountain, hill, giant tree, river and every important shore and beach have lantangan for offerings. Stone structures are rare and only appear in the larger cities of Gatusan—they carved onto the side of hills and mountains, or from the rocks of said mountains after performing rituals to ask permission from the mountain gods to take stones for creating merit. The largest stone temple is in Kangdaya, which also acts as the Palace of the Ponong Raja. Other important sites are the Pagodas of Put’wan, the Holy Mountain of Kihadi-an, and the grand (yet now lost) temple city of Biringan, crafted by an ancient Samrasat Devaraja in the island of Mairete, now lost in its jungles. 

Kihadi-an is a grand monument complex constructed to mirror the mountain of Semedu, the grandest peak in all of Gubat Banwa. This name in Kangdayanon, Put’wanon, Ba-enense, and Apunon Anitu is attributed to be one of the regnal titles of APU DAYAWA, the grand mountain that juts out from the island of Kalanawan.

Finally, Anitu now recognizes Ashinin-style regnal titles and even the concept of god-kings, as brought by Shri-Bishaya’s retinue and royal court. Ponong Raja Batara Ambas now has a claim to a divine right to rule by way of being an avatar or an embodiment of Laon on the Warring Realms. Titles such as datu are considered a step below the title of Raja, and Maharaja. Ponong Raja means head Raja, and is a coveted title amongst all. According to the Kangdaynon balyan, the gods in the sky speak of the Uniter of the Hundred Hundred Islands, which they call the Langidagandraja, a fusion of the words LANGIT + DAGAT + INDRA + RAJA. Together, this name means HEAVEN-SEA GOD KING, as the conquerer of the entire sky and sea. This name is fabled and no man has a claim to this title. It cannot be gifted by the gods nor can it be achieved through enlightenment. It must be seized from hearts and minds of people.

Lu Mingfei could swear that there was something slightly off with the world today.

Not that he hadn’t been experiencing multiple instances of strangeness ever since he accepted that damned offer to Cassel College; in between the mock battles, dragons, learning Yanling and awkwardly observing the social hierarchy – he hadn’t had much time to figure out why something felt off.

“Lu Mingfei. Feifei. Hello~”

He blinked at the hand waving in front of him.

“Aiyo Feifei” the Finger shook his head at him, the music of the banquet hall suddenly roaring back to full volume. “And there you are doing it again! Is there really something so interesting about a party? Have you never gone to a party before?”

“No- I-“ Lu Mingfei felt an itch, similar to the itch he got whenever he sensed Lu Mingze in the room. “Something doesn’t-“

“May I have this dance?”

Lu Mingfei blinked.

There was another man, a student maybe? Dressed in all-black with an extended tailcoat, a crimson brooch color matching with carmine-colored irises that almost seemed to glow in the golden light of the ballroom. His hair was tastefully mused, looking all the world like the rest of Caesar’s seemingly endless guest lists of rich people, yet there was something that seemed familiar and terrifying to the way he stood. Almost unnervingly still, like he wasn’t even breathing.

“Uh – we’re both men- um” Lu Mingfei awkwardly stuttered out.

“I’m sure there are more interesting things to look at” the man chuckled “it is rude to ignore the Birthday Girl after all.”

“Have you greeted her?” He retaliated.

“But of course,” his smile inched the slightest bit wider, head tilted towards him as if to let him in on a secret. “in between the champagne and cider, I thought that perhaps some beer would do her some good. For variety, of course.”

Beer? To Chen Motong?? To Nono?! Lu Mingfei coughed, choking half-way on an aborted laugh that threatened to escape him, hand blindly reaching out – only to be taken by another.

It’s cold he thought to himself, legs following before he could faceplant into the other man.

With grace that he lacked in spades, the crimson-eyed man accommodated rather well to Lu Mingfei’s clumsy-movements. At first leading the two of them before abruptly switching their hand positions so that it would be Lu Mingfei in the lead.

“I don’t-“

“You worry too much” the man whispered “breathe, I won’t let you make a fool of yourself.”

Like this, Lu Mingfei could see the top of the man’s head. Black hair hiding strands of silver that he thought to be a mere reflection at first, a trick of the light. It was oddly fitting despite the peculiarity of it all, and part of Lu Mingfei wanted to dismiss the odd strand as a foreigner’s idea of a good look.

As he dropped the stranger into a gentle dip, he realized that he had been dancing for quite a few minutes with little to no issues.

“See?” his dancing partner teased “though I imagine your friend is less enthused by your sudden proficiency.”

He glanced towards Finger’s direction, blinking at his senior’s cold-face – hands wrapped around the flute of the glass in his hands to the point where his knuckles were turning white. Then Lu Mingfei shifted, twirling the stranger in place before meeting him on the next swing, not a beat out of tune.

“Then again” the man continued “perhaps he’s just jealous.”

“Of me dancing with you?” Lu Mingfei scoffed.

“Of me dancing with you” the stranger corrected “I don’t blame him, you are quite…Luminous.”

Lu Mingfei couldn’t help but give the stranger a confused look at that, slightly off though it was to hear everyone speaking in a different language, there was something heavy to the man’s words. Nostalgic maybe? No. No it was much simpler than that.

It was just sad.

“I never caught your name” Lu Mingfei said after a moment, slowing as the tempo did. “I’m Lu Mingfei.”

“I’m…” the stranger paused for a moment; expression suddenly unsure. “You may call me Kriaan.”

A shiver crawled up Lu Mingfei’s spine, and something in his head whispered with a quiet resonance like it was afraid of being heard.

Killer.

The piece ended sooner than Lu Mingfei thought it should've, Kriaan’s hand slipping out of his own and offering him an elegant bow before swinging around behind him in a set of steps too quick for Lu Mingfei to follow. It was strange actually, the way people seemed to glance over the two of them like they weren’t there – or they just weren’t noticing Lu Mingfei and Kriaan in the first place – like-

Like they were being hidden.

“You need to be careful Lu Mingfei” Kriaan said quietly, the world beginning to dim and dull yet again, as if on command. “Trust that Lu Mingze wants you alive, though know that he cares little for anyone else. He’s always been that way.”

His eyes widened “you know-“

“I’ll do my best to help” he could feel Kriaan shrug “but I can’t let myself be caught so soon now can I? They’ll probably sooner try and cut me open than they will accept me as a student again.”

“Wait-“ Nothing was making any sense-

“Until next time.” Kriaan’s voice suddenly was closer and farther all at once, behind his ear and echoing from a distance. “Old friend.”

He turned around, but Kriaan was already gone.

“Hey.”

Lu Mingfei turned back, finding himself straining to look up into Finger’s eyes, expression oddly serious for the first time in a long while since he had first met him.

“Are you okay? Did he do anything?”

“What- no- I- was he dangerous?”

Finger gave him a concerned look “he has no file in the system, no ID, not even a visitors pass or even identified on Gatusso’s guest list. That’s impossible.”

“He seemed kind of nice though” Lu Mingfei blinked, remembering. “A little sad maybe.”

Finger pressed his lips together before grabbing his hand, tugging roughly. “Come on- I’ll show you a real dance.”

“Hey waitaminute-! Finger! Finger!”

The memory faded soon after, between Finger’s rough handling of him and meeting up with a friend he never thought he’d actually see in person for a long time yet – the memory of the stranger lost between chaotic moment after chaotic moment.

Then Norton awakened, and he forgot about it completely.

Since I got some free time rn, thought I might expand the Second Chances AU for a bit. So far, these are confirmed:

*The Uesugi siblings share the same abilities & species as their mentors. Once they've fully mastered their powers, they'll evolve and are free to pursue new skills.

*Chisei owns a kiosk on a beach in Marseille, primarily sells knick-knacks, and his homemade suntan lotion. Often does odd jobs during other seasons.

*Chime is currently studying for his Master's degree in Fine Arts in Paris and perform kabuki in theatres & opera houses. His bird form is an albino crow.

*Erii is an arts major freshman who goes to the same university as her brother. Recently takes photography as a hobby and uses them for reference.

*Koshi, their actual father is the only one with pure human blood. Opens up a ramen shop in Lyon where Raphael often to stop by for lunch.

*After some much needed therapy Isidore started his new life as a music freelancer, teaching kids how to play guitars & etc.

*Durante owns a flower shop that doubles as an occult shop. Is the one who taught Chosen on how to make the lotions and such.

*Marisol spends her days tinkering at machines with the quadruplets and building custom automobiles. Once sent a mechanical dog to Luminous as a birthday gift.

*In this AU, supernatural creatures besides dragons and hybrids exists & they coexist with the human world.

*Contains elements from Bayonetta, Devil may Cry & Final Fantasy XIV.

Dragon Raja and why everyone and everything always has a different name.

If you ever tried to read the manhua, play the game or watch the animated show and got confused by the constant changing of the names of the characters and the lore, I think you'd like to read this little essay.

Hi, I'm hectab, and for some reason I decided to translate Dragon Raja from Chinese to english a couple years ago, which has been strangely enjoyable, but also annoying in some ways.

You see, this is not unique to this franchise, I am aware, but when your Chinese property has a ton of international characters and keeps including real-world mythology from other cultures, you need to start making decisions, because things have different names in different cultures.

So, is your name Johann or...?

For starters, the name of the series is Long Zu (龙族) and it means something like "Dragonkind".

The editorial initially called it "Longzu: Eragon" and then they changed it to "Longzu: Dragon Raja"

Maybe they mixed "D" with "E"? Maybe they liked how it sounds, maybe they read the western Eragon books, who knows.

You see, Long Zu was never translated, it basically doesn't exist in the west, but it was huge in China, so much that they decided to make an expensive MMO based on the franchise, the results were so flashy that they went global and by 2020 it was nearly everywhere.

Now... Americans are used to a few Japanese words, but are they open to Chinese ones?

What about people that aren't familiar with anime and manga?

How do we market a guy called Chu Tianjiao? Screw it, we'll call him John.

So yeah, they localized a lot of it:

Funny thing, Luminous already has an American name in the books but there was no way they were going to call him Ricardo.

Then the devs decided to change how they call the characters and everything in the middle of the story, which made it even more confusing.

So why is this a problem? Just show people the graph, right? Yeah I guess, but for me the problem was...

The Manhua

First let's address the fan translation:

When I was translating the manhua, in order to avoid making decisions and offering explanations, I just kept the game names, but then I realized that by doing that, I shot myself in the foot, I'll give you an example:

You see, let's mention three not-so-random things from these books:

Caesar's skill: Lian You

A creature: The Kamaitachi

A clan of Japanese mobsters: The Oni

They called each of those things "Devils" (They technically are though).

So now we have three different things with the same name in english, and at some point I had to write stuff like:

"Caesar had to unleash his devils against the devils in the streets while running away from the devils."

Give me a break...

Caesar's name is its own mess, no one can decide how to spell it, even official sources from China contradict themselves, is it Caesar or Cesare?

The official translation of the manhua came out later, but even they decided to change how they call some things in the middle of the story...

I'll explain why Yanling, Ex.Skill, Soul Skill, Sacred Words and Kotodama are exactly the same thing and how the hell that happened:

Yan Ling means something like "the spirits of words" or "sacred words" and it is an ancient Chinese belief in words and names that withhold spiritual power.

You could also call them "magic words", "spells" or "sacred sounds" in western cultures and most importantly: Kotodama in Japanese culture.

That word, "Kotodama"...

You see, Jiang Nan is kind of a weeb, he's not hiding it, the franchise is heavily influenced by Anime and Manga, so he tends to take Japanese elements and translate them to their Chinese equivalent, be it culturally or merely linguistically.

For example: Caesar Gattuso's Yanling is called: "Lián yòu".

Lián yòu is the Chinese word for "Kamaitachi" which is a creature from Japanese folklore, three wind-devils with sickle claws that cut people.

In the original Chinese version they're called "Sickle Ferrets" but if you're translating it to english, should we call them that or do what the game did? "Wind devils".

But wait, since it's directly mentioned that they're from Japanese folklore, maybe we should translate it to Japanese as Kamaitachi.

Or maybe just leave it in Chinese as Lian You?

Now let's say you picked Japanese and called them Kamaitachi, should Yanling be changed to Kotodama then? Should I change Jiude Ya Ji to Sakatoku Aki? Should I change every name to their original culture's equivalent?

In that case the Sheqi Bajia should be changed to the Japanese Yamata no orochi instead of Eight-headed snake in english, but can you see? Right there you have three different ways to translate the exact same thing and they're all correct in their own way.

Other examples of this include:

I could go on for centuries, those were three books of Japanese stuff.

Donghua / Anime

I don't know why, but the studio refuses to type the names of actual places. I'm not even talking about a translation, this is the original script in Chinese.

The characters clearly talking about China and America, but they never seem to type the actual names of those countries, just very similar-sounding ones... Why is that?

Anyway... That's the end of it.

When two or more characters whom are in a Marriage Bond with each other wish to have a child they must first seek the blessing of the goddess before they perform the ritual dance. Once the ritual is complete there is a chance an heir will manifest. The heir starts off in a wisp like state. The dark swirls on the outside represent the mind, the normal body represents the soul, and the light centre represents the heart.

Inspiration for the look of the heir comes from will-o-wisps, souls from Soul Eater, and heirs from Dragon Raja. Part of the inspiration for heirs comes from Dragon Raja, Conception II, and Fire Emblem Fates.

Amala family lore drop!!!!

She's the 2nd child of 4 and lives with her parents her Baba,Nirmal and her Mama,Moema along with her older sister Hema her younger brother Raja and the youngest Jair. Her parents aren't too on her when it comes to the delinquent activity(much to both sides of the family shock). But as more and more things start to happen they do get worried for her and her friends a lot more. Kazutora also has other adults outside the black dragons generation to make proud since he wants to have Amala parents approval. Moema likes him and is very sadden by his hime life since it reminds her of her own and Nirmal wasn't hesitant at first but when he saw that Kazutora really loved Amala he warmed up to him over time.

Damn no wonder they didn't mind him hiding out in her room. They were delinquents themselves.

I didn’t get that far yet but oh mah gawd how is Herzog not exhausted from doing all of that? I could barely keep up with my roles in school clubs much less take on two identities XD

How does he do it though? Does he use holograms where both identities show up, or did he literally split himself into two people? I noticed “splitting” is a reoccurring theme in DR 👀

That’s got me wondering now...could Bondarev have been another identity Herzog used to fake his own death to throw off Cassell? I don’t remember much about that though (But that would explain the lack of personality in Bondy Boi but tbh I’d be sad if that was the case because I already wrote so much about him😔 Might also explain Bondy Boi’s mysterious disappearance to which Osho claims to have killed him)

The Game doesn’t explain all this but

Herzog separates the boys as Tachibana, sending Chisei to be the leader of the Gen clan. Chisei will be his Sword and Chime will be his Shield.

Herzog as Osho gives Chime (the stronger of the boys) the ‘evolution pill’ (Molotov cocktail) serum of dragon blood. Chime doesn’t turn evil immediately but becomes more beautiful and more attractive.

Herzog as Osho uses the woodblock sound to cause Chime to start killing people in the village.

Herzog as Tachibana assigns Chisei to kill Chime, widening the rift between the two brothers. Chisei thinks his brother is dead by his own hand but has no idea how powerful a state Chime was in when he died.

Herzog as Osho takes Chime to the Kabuki theater and fake resurrects him before the Devil Clan as their dragon lord.

Herzog as Tachibana starts the war between the Devil Clan and the Hydra in an effort to cover his tracks and get rid of the other experimental people (such as Kogure). Herzog as Osho allows Hydra under Chisei (his Sword) to kill most of the Devil Clan members.

But things go awry when Erii, his essential vessel, is taken by the Cassell team and the plan can’t move forward until she’s returned. Herzog as Tachibana continues to bait Chisei saying that Erii is his precious daughter and he really would like her to live a good life. Herzog as Osho allows his phone to be tapped so that Ruri Kazama can pass information of a fake ‘meeting’ between his two personas (Tachibana and Osho).

Tokyo Tower is a trap. It’s crawling with the most powerful deadpool. Herzog hopes that everyone will die. But things again don’t work out as planned for him. Once its clear that Chisei, Chime and the Cassell team have escaped, he kills off his Tachibana sock puppet because guess what?

Erii is back! He doesn’t really need Chime or Chisei any more now. But he does need to get rid of them. He manages to remove Ruri from Chime using the woodblock but the Cassell team (mainly Luminous) stops Osho from killing him and take him to the Takamagahara.

Chime wants to meet his brother and reconcile now that he’s in his right mind. But this turns out to be a colossal mistake. Osho tracks Chime down there, dumps a bunch of death servitors on them and uses the Woodblock to make Ruri attack his brother and seriously wound him. 

When they’re at the red well, he uses the same tactic. Chisei can’t get to Osho because Osho makes his brother defend him every time he does. Ruri attacks Chisei in the red well and doesn’t stop attacking him until he’s dead for real this time.

Hey y’all I lost everything I ever posted as Nadi-117. I don’t know why this happened after the username change. So, I literally lost all my fan fiction, memes, picture collections, and the diary entries I was going to use as reference for the case against my dad. I also lost the Dragon Raja lore post…everything really just because I changed my username to make it more difficult for Alexa, aka “1outofmymind” from finding my blog.
