Random Sabo Headcanons
Summary: A collection of random Sabo headcanons
Genre: Fluff
CW: None // SFW
———
Never really gave up on his dream of writing a book about his adventures. He keeps a journal and wants to assemble it all into a manuscript, but he has a lot of self doubt regarding his abilities as a writer. A lot of his journal entries are reflecting on the inequality, injustice, and even outright war crimes he has witnessed the World Government commit. When he publishes it, it will 100% be banned by the Government. Also wants to publish some comics based on his childhood with Luffy and Ace, actually has a knack for it.
Has a few habits from his aristocratic upbringing that not even his time in the woods with Ace and Luffy broke him of. He holds his teacup and eating utensils a certain way, he makes at least some effort to adhere to dress codes, etcetera. Most of these habits are in regards to women, whom he treats with the utmost respect; very chivalrous.
That being said, he definitely keeps a switchblade in his boot. He’s a very dirty fighter, won’t hesitate to pull it.
Also cheats at monopoly. And nobody ever suspects him because he benefits from pretty privilege.
Has argued with Koala until his voice is hoarse that dragon claw is way better than fishman karate. Could also write an entire book on the merits of fighting with a lead pipe over any sort of fancy sword or spear. Also used to talk serious smack about devil fruit users before he ate his fruit, expects every devil fruit user in the Revolutionary Army to disregard his previous taunts after the fact.
Secretly such a cuddle bug, craves the affection he never received in his childhood. Except it’s not really a secret because he once fell asleep in a meeting and woke up to everyone laughing at him because he snuggled into Dragon’s side.
A pretty good cook, but weirdly enough, can only make a meal in the wilderness. If it’s over a campfire, he’s a chef, but he always causes some sort of accident when he tries to recreate these dishes in an actual kitchen. Credit a childhood in the woods for this one.
Can be a little clumsy, can’t really be trusted around breakable valuables. Makes it all the more insane how agile he is during a fight.
His scars aren’t just on his face. He has them on his body and hands, too, even down to his ankles, and he doesn’t actually like showing them off (thus the reason he’s basically the only character in this universe who is fully clothed) because they symbolize his traumatic past/leaving Ace and Luffy, which feeds into him blaming himself for Ace’s death. Actually spent a fortune on scar creams in an effort to make the scars fade but none of them worked. Is trying to make peace with that part of his appearance.
Has a skincare routine. Nothing fancy, but he exfoliates and applies moisturizer to his face, and he has a special hand cream. Also always has chapstick on, and he carries it around with him. Has multiple extras scattered around. It has a slight pink tint to it that he pretends not to notice. He makes kissy lips at Koala if she tries to tease him about it. Low key the sort of guy to go through your purse in search of hand cream or concealer.
Speaking of, it’s pretty much impossible to tease him/get under his skin. He takes everything in stride, hardly ever gets pouty. He’s also the only person in the Revolutionary Army who is brave enough to tease Dragon and even argue with him, which is one of the reasons he became Dragon’s second in command.
Doesn’t do anything special to his hair. It falls like that naturally. Could literally wash his hair with a bar of soap and it still dries as though he had it blown out by a professional.
He doesn’t know how to read palms, but he pretends he does to flirt with people. He’ll make things up about the lines in their palms, using it as an excuse to initiate skin to skin contact. He’s a shameless flirt. Members of the Revolutionary Army often joke about their Chief of Staff being a honeypot. Some Army communications about the matter were even intercepted, and the World Government, not knowing the RA was joking around, actually has it in their file on the Chief of Staff that he will use seduction to get what he wants. When an RA spy find this out and fed it back to the Army, the entire base keeled over in laughter, Sabo included.

hey queen today i am thinking of prince!art who doesn’t even care about potentially being king or having a queen to rule with until he meets you just a random silly thought
sighhhh prince!Art <3
He spends his days with Patrick, his father's ward, a highborn second-son of the king of a neighboring kingdom. They drink and whore and hunt and gamble and it's all so fun, he doesn't need anything else.
But then you're sweeping into the castle in pretty pastel dresses, your head dipped low, sweet and virginal and polite. They say you're a dragon rider, but he doesn't believe that. You speak in a foreign tongue with your father at dinner, in a strange accent with clipped consonants and rolled r's.
Art will be king one day, with a golden crown to match his pretty, golden hair, and you... you're supposed to be his queen. He promenades with you in the garden. Your lady's maid chaperones, and Patrick joins in to walk alongside you, like he belongs there.
Your innocence is delicious— the perfect princess, molded from birth to be a gift for some noble boy like Art, like Patrick. Art should treasure that, he should worship the ground you walk on and commit to being a good husband and king for you.
But Patrick has other ideas.
"She should join us," Patrick suggests, watching on with lust-filled eyes as Art takes a razor to his body hair, relishing in the chance to take in the dip and curve of well-honed muscle. Such a pampered little prince— he's hardly seen the world outside of the keep.
"She does join us," Art says. "Too much for my liking."
Patrick grins lecherously. "I think the little princess would benefit from a little education," he says, wearing a coy smile.
Art bristles. "You want to fuck her?"
"So do you." Patrick replies with a shrug. "She should know how to please her king."
Art snorts. He's not a king, and his father is far too stubborn to die any time soon. "You'll just scare her away," he argues.
But Patrick is far more convincing, or maybe you just want it so bad. The pretty little dragon rider, cloaked in rags, sneaking into a brothel with the crown prince and the king's ward.
Your pretty eyes widen in shock and interest at the sight of the lowborn women's bodies, moving in ways that spark interest. You're there for Art, you remind yourself. Because your father told you to deny him of nothing. Patrick is just an extension of Art, so you obey him as well.
They feed you wine and fruit in a private room draped with gauzy fabrics that cover oil lamps and make the room dance in hazy, colored light. Naked girls straddle their laps and they moan with interest and you just... you watch. It's equal parts humiliating and arousing, the watching.
"Pay attention, princess," Patrick says as the girl in Art's lap begins to pull off his clothes. "It's time for your first lesson."

Look, we thought pairing my LDB up with freaking Yrsarald Thrice-Pierced instead of Ulfric would be funny.
It wasn't. It was just sad.
ao3 | masterlist
As I told my dear sweet @elder-dragon-reposes, it's one thing for one of Ulfric's followers clear across Skyrim to get heart eyes for Ulfric's girlfriendsword arm, but it's another matter entirely if it's one of his generals. In his own city.
Yrsarald remembers the Dragonborn from when she came to call Ulfric to the Greybeards' council. He remembers that she was soft-spoken and adamant about the World-Eater. She's hopeful and compassionate, and that stands out to him, even if she is an elf.
Ulfric doesn't seem to mind her ancestry, so Yrsarald elects to ignore it untilunless it becomes a problem.
News comes that Alduin has been banished, and the Dragonborn is about Skyrim, helping people. It's . . . nice that the foreign half-elf seems to care so much for the well-being of Skyrim and her people. Yrsarald keeps tabs on her through the informants and spy networks. It's a matter of security if the Dragonborn turns traitor to Skyrim and helps the blasted Thalmor. Galmar isn't keeping up with it, so for Ulfric and the Stormcloaks' sake, Yrsarald is.
But all he hears are good things. She wins admiration everywhere she goes, but she doesn't belong anywhere. Balgruuf the Greater is trying to tie the Dragonborn to Whiterun, but she's as flighty as Kyne's winds. Somewhere in there, Yrsarald learns her name is Leara Ormand and she's from HIgh Rock. She grew up on magic and chivalry. She probably sees life as a fairy tale. He may disdain her for it.
But then she comes to Windhelm. They've had troubles of their own, being stretched between the care of the city and fighting a war. And she solves problems. He hears she's investigating the serial killer in town . . .
. . .then finds the Butcher, and she's hurt? Ulfric is concerned, but Yrsarald finds himself livid. He cannot see his Jarl's worry for his own shame that their hero came to help them, and all she got in return was a bleeding wound and permafrost on her skin.
Imagine being so in love with an otherwise mythic figure, a celebrity, that you can't see that your friend, your brother, is also in love with her. How can you see it when you aren't ready to admit your own feelings?
Leara is renting a room at Candlehearth when Yrsarald decides he needs to pay his respects to her. She is surprised when he meets her near dinner. He has never seen a woman so precisely featured before. She's not in armor (he's only seen her in silver plate); her hair is down (curling in blood rose vines) and she's bundled in a cornflower blue dress (it's loose to accommodate her bandages). He wants to sit down and talk to her, but he doesn't. He thanks her, though, and she smiles. He stops by the counter later to make sure Elda sends her a dessert .
"But don't bother her with who it's from." "Well if that's how you choose to show your appreciation."
Yrsarald buys Leara sweets after that. She doesn't know it's him. She knows it's someone who appreciates her service and feels bad about her getting hurt, but Elda won't crack. Drat the woman.
Leara wonders if Ulfric is gifting her the sweets. She wants to hope it's Ulfric. She wants their past to be past and for her to appreciate everything she continues to do not for him, but to his benefit; she wasn't drawn in by his smile or anything. Who else would it be if not him? Ralof? He's not in town. General Stone-Fist didn't seem too bothered about her.
Leara's still healing. She's not bedridden or anything, but she's not fit to go beyond the city gates where there are bandits and dragons and necromancers (oh my!), so she decides that visiting the court wizard might be a fruitful investment of her time. She shuffles off to the Palace of the Kings. She runs into Jorleif right off and, on telling him she'd like to visit the court wizard, he's ready to take her to Wuunferth because she's been to see him before, and after all, she is the Dragonborn.
And this is that delightful moment when fate can swing either way because if Ulfric shows up and offers to walk Leara, that's all she wrote. Yrsarald's lost his chance because now that soft smile from Candlehearth is directed at the Jarl, not him, and Yrsarald will never get it back.
But maybe, just maybe, if Yrsarald gets to Leara before Ulfric does, if he captures her attention in conversation, maybe she'll look at him.
For a general commanding troops, it's terribly hard to be brave before a woman.
He would ask her how she's healing from the attack, and Leara would sigh, tired with herself but patient in her speech, because she's healing but she feels like she's letting the people down. And the tips of her ears might turn pink (Yrsarald didn't know elf ears did that) because Leara didn't mean to be that candid and trouble him – but Yrsarald is tripping over himself to tell her that she's done more for Skyrim than anyone (why is his neck red?) and it's reasonable for her to convalesce after an injury.
"Rest and eat apple tarts." ". . . how did you know I was eating apple tarts?"
Yrsarald coughs (he did not mean to tell her that). Leara is staring at him. They're at Wuunferth's quarters. She blinks at him before thanking him for guiding her through the palace. Then she's gone, and Yrsarald is kicking himself for being an idiot.
He's smitten.
Soon (too soon) Leara has healed from her injury and she's at the palace again, but this time she's offering to help Ulfric negotiate a permanent peace between both sides. Ulfric's seen Leara at the table, he knows what she can do. Galmar is more skeptical, but when Ulfric looks to Yrsarald for his opinion (and Leara's too-blue winter deep eyes follow) he says to let her have at it.
Leara needs to be brought up on the Stormcloaks holdings and Ulfric says he'll help her, but then Galmar needs him for something else and Yrsarald (does NOTdoes) jumps at the chance to help the Dragonborn. She's attentive and quiet, and asks the right questions about supplies and movements. And Yrsarald realizes as he's talking to her that Leara has been in a war before.
"Were you in the Great War?"
The stiffening of her shoulders is almost imperceptible. He'd have missed it if he weren't watching her so intently.
"Yes."
Her reply is measured. She does not lie.
"Legion?"
Because everyone was in the Legion then. Back when it fought for Skyrim. He wouldn't fault her if she was . . . why is her face sour? Her mouth is pinched.
"It doesn't matter–" "It does."
Why does it matter? He wonders, why is he pressing?
Her eyes are wide. So wide and too-blue.
Leara looks ill.
And then he knows.
He knew from the beginning she couldn't be trusted. She was an elf. All elves scurried back to the Thalmor in the end. She was here for that blasted Thalmor "ambassador" – she would betray Ulfric and the sons of Skyrim to their deaths!
There's a breathless scream.
Yrsarald doesn't realize until then that he has her on the ground. She's so small and too precisely featured. Her eyes are too blue. She's a traitor, a liar, a fraud–
The Dragonborn does not care for Skyrim.
"Yrsarald, please–"
Yrsarald growls.
Why is she crying? Doesn't she realize what she's doing to Skyrim? – Done to him? All this time and Yrsarald realizes he let Leara lure him into a fairy tale, only for her to shatter it with frigid reality when he thinks, when he thinks . . .
He might love her.
But elves can't love.
"You will rue the day you stepped foot in Skyrim, elf!"
She's sobbing. If she were really a true Dragonborn, she'd try and Shout him off, but Yrsarald wonders if she lied about that, too. High Elf illusions.
"Yrsa–" "What's going–?!"
Then Yrsarald is yanked back forcibly. Galmar is there. And Ralof. And Ulfric.
Ulfric is on the floor with her. Kneeling beside her as she gasps and tears turn her white gold face into wet porcelain. Kneeling beside her as if the elf wasn't going to sell Ulfric and everything they'd worked for to the Thalmor!
Yrsarald strains against Galmar and Ralof. He grits his teeth.
"She's Thalmor!"
Galmar stills. Ralof pales. Ulfric's head is bowed. She isn't making any noise but she struggles to breathe and it's tearing Yrsarald apart and enraging him all at once.
"I know."
And with those words, Yrsarald questions everything he ever knew about Ulfric Stormcloak. Ulfric knew she was a Thalmor spy? Was he coming to stop her – but . . .
Then Ulfric is lifting Leara from the ground, helping her to her feet, and it's too gentle for a King about to arrest an enemy.
Her hands are grasping Ulfric's arm, her eyes wide. Ulfric's face is drawn.
"We will discuss this later."
And he walks out with her. And the elf is free. And Yrsarald doesn't understand.
And then Galmar speaks:
"What in Oblivion did you do?!"
Yrsarald . . . doesn't know anymore.
What he learns later is more than he could stomach. Leara was a member of the Thalmor and she was a member of the Blades before that, and during the war, she smuggled information from the Dominion to the Blades intelligence networks and then defected while smuggling Ulfric Stormcloak from captivity.
He's nauseous when Ralof tells him this. Respectful Ralof – save this time there's steel in his eyes and disdain in his voice.
Yrsarald realizes he deserves that.
Later, when she finds him at Candlehearth, drinking his weight in ale, he realizes he does not deserve the understanding and forgiveness and the self-loathing in her face.
"I know why you did what you did. I can't fault you for it, not when I could've sold your Jarl and cause out to the Dominion. But I–"
Leara's eyes trail off.
"I'm sorry."
He chokes out the words. Her eyes slip back. She was far away.
"I think it's for the best if we're not alone together anymore."
Then she's gone.
Yrsarald buys another round.
The next day, Galmar says Ulfric wants him in the Pale. Far away from the Dragonborn goes unspoken between them.
Yrsarald goes. Ulfric's face is hard when he bids Yrsarald goodbye. The Jarl is not as easily forgiving as the Dragonborn.
Yrsarald is in the Pale when, a month later, news comes that the Dragonborn is handling an armistice in Whiterun. Skyrim divided. What was she thinking? She's thinking for Skyrim, Yrsarald realizes. That's all she's thought about this entire time.
It's a year before he returns to the Eastern capital of Windhelm, and only then, it's because the High King is getting married.
Yrsarald sees her. He doesn't stay long after that.
After all, Ulfric would protect her. Had protected her. Even from Yrsarald.
He could live with that.

Chapter Twenty-Eight
Maera reluctantly broke her fast with her father, her head throbbing from the remnants of the previous night's wine. Fortunately, Queen Helaena had shown grace by granting her the day to recuperate. And there was no way Maera would be sparring with Aemond today. As far as she was concerned, the further away from him she was the better. This suitor debacle was complicated enough without the one-eyed Prince toying with her emotions.
Thena dressed her that morning in a simple wrap gown, less dramatic than the dress she had worn the previous night. The gown's rich fabric draped gracefully over her form, the turquoise hue reminiscent of the sea on a tranquil morning, and the gold accents catching the soft morning light in a subtle shimmer. To not worsen Maera’s delicate headache, the maid also styled Maera’s hair into a simple half-up half-down hair do, the top half being braided and the bottom half allowed to flow graciously down her back.
Across the table, Lord Jasper, seemingly unfazed by the previous night's festivities, began, "Maera, you received much interest from many different suitors last night." His tone was a mixture of pride and expectation, and he continued, "I'm proud to see you're taking your responsibilities seriously."
Maera's green eyes, adorned with a faint weariness, revealed the lingering effects of the previous night's festivities to her father. The breakfast table before her boasted an assortment of remedies, from hearty meats and cheeses to fresh fruits and pastries, their fragrances wafting through the air. But all Maera could manage to do was to put her head in her hands, partly due to her hangover-induced dizziness and partly from the anxiety that loomed over her regarding an impending marriage match.
Lord Jasper continued talking, sorting through his stack of letters. He casually mentioned Houses like "Thorne, Swyift, Peake," and numerous others, but Maera's focus remained on a small piece of bread and the comforting ginger tea she hoped would soothe her queasy stomach.
“Maera," Lord Jasper called out gently, capturing his daughter's attention. His steely eyes held both purpose and a touch of sympathy as he continued, "I understand this is a difficult decision, and I want you to feel that you have some choice in the matter."
Maera couldn't hide her surprise at her father's willingness to consider her preferences. She cocked her head, awaiting his next words.
With a solemn nod, Lord Jasper handed three sealed letters to Maera. He explained, "I've carefully considered which alliances would benefit House Wylde the most, and I believe these three Lords are the best choices." As Maera examined the parchments, she paid special attention to the wax seals, mentally matching them to noble houses—House Lannister, House Lefford, and, to her delight, House Tully.
Maera's eyes lit up when she saw the familiar fish on the letter from Lord Warren, and she couldn't help but smile. Grateful, she looked up at her father and said, "Thank you, Father, for allowing me to have some choice in this."
Lord Jasper continued, "All of these Lords will be staying in King's Landing for another week. I suggest you engage in a short courtship with each of them, get to know them better before making a decision."
Maera giggled at the thought, her humor returning. "I can hardly court an infant in its mother's womb," she quipped, referring to House Lannister's offer. Her jest earned a chuckle from her father.
In the comfortable silence that enveloped them, the clinking of cutlery and sips of tea filled the air as father and daughter enjoyed their morning meal together. Lord Jasper was the first to speak, taking a bite of his mutton before sharing a personal tidbit. "You know, Maera," he began, "before my match with your mother, we courted for a short while."
Maera paused in her meal, her attention shifting from her tea to her father's face. She raised an eyebrow curiously, her interest piqued. "You did?" she inquired, her voice laced with curiosity.
Lord Jasper nodded, a faint smile gracing his lips as he recalled those days. "Indeed," he confirmed. "Your grandparents eventually arranged our match, but before that, we managed to form a bond."
Sipping her tea thoughtfully, Maera then ventured another question. "Father," she began, "why don't you ever talk about her?"
Lord Jasper's expression turned somber as he contemplated his late wife's memory. "Lady Selmy, my first wife, she provided me with the sons I needed to secure our line," he explained. "But Gael… she gave me her heart. And I gave her mine in return." A distant smile played on his lips as he reminisced. "From that initial spark, we built something truly extraordinary. Our love only grew with every child we brought into this world."
He sighed, his gaze dropping to his plate. "And then, it all seemed to crumble," he admitted, his voice laden with sadness. "With your mother's sudden death on the childbed, and the loss of your twin brothers a few months later, it felt as though I'd lost everything. There was barely any evidence left of the six years of marriage we shared. Except for you."
The room fell silent again, but this time, it was a shared moment of understanding. Maera listened attentively, grateful that he had shared such a vulnerable part of himself with her. Finally, Lord Jasper cleared his throat and reached for another letter on the table. He handed it to Maera, a Seven-Pointed Star gracing the blue wax seal. It was a letter from her sister, Sabine. Maera's eyes lit up with joy, and she looked at her father with gratitude.
Maera's face lit up with a radiant smile as she accepted the letter. "Thank you, Father," she said genuinely, her gratitude evident in her eyes. She bowed her head respectfully, then rose from her seat to return to her chambers, eager to read the words from her beloved sister.
Maera practically rushed back to her chambers, anticipation bubbling within her. She let the doors shut behind her as she quickly sat at her dining table, breaking the seal on the letter. As she unfolded the parchment, Sabine's words filled her vision.
Dearest Maera,
I hope this letter finds you in good health and high spirits. Your previous letter brought me immense comfort, and I cannot thank you enough for your kind words. I was rather nervous about the prospect of marriage, and your support meant the world to me.
As for my marriage to Lord Adrian, things appear to be progressing well. Our initial meeting was, I must admit, quite awkward. However, over the past moon, we have grown closer and developed a true friendship. We often spend our evenings reading by the hearth, sharing stories, and even enjoying horse rides together. I find that I genuinely enjoy his company.
Now, regarding the wedding night, I shall not sugarcoat it. Septa Mathilde's warnings were not unfounded. It did hurt. But please know that things are getting easier. Lord Adrian has been patient and kind, and we are slowly getting to know each other more intimately. Although, our first encounter was rather brief, and afterward, Lord Adrian snored quite loudly throughout the night, which meant I got little sleep.
Nevertheless, Maera, I hope my experiences bring you some comfort and insight into what lies ahead. I wish for you to find contentment and friendship in your own marriage, just as I have found with Lord Adrian. I long for the day we can see each other once more.
With love and warm regards,
Sabine
Maera's heart swelled with affection for her younger sister as she read the letter. Sabine's words provided both guidance and reassurance as she navigated the uncertain path of her own upcoming marriage. With newfound determination coursing through her, Maera summoned both Thena and Ser Arryk into her chambers. Her loyal entourage arrived promptly, ready to attend to their lady's requests. Maera addressed Thena, her maid, and trusted confidante first.
"Thena, I need you to reach out to my potential suitors. Let them know that I acknowledge their interest and that I'm open to being invited for a short courtship, with Ser Arryk as my chaperone. Please ensure this message is delivered promptly," Maera instructed, her eyes locked on her trusted handmaiden. Thena nodded respectfully and swiftly exited the room, eager to carry out her lady's command.
Turning her attention to Ser Arryk, Maera's expression softened with gratitude. "Ser Arryk, I must apologize for my behavior last night, for I fear I made a spectacle of myself," she admitted, her voice tinged with regret.
The knight chuckled, his tone warm. "My lady, you need not worry. Your well-being is my concern, and so long as you enjoyed yourself, that's all that matters."
Maera offered a weak smile, not truly able to enjoy the previous night's festivities due to her encounter with Prince Aemond. She swiftly changed the subject, her concern for Queen Helaena evident.
"Have you heard anything about Queen Helaena? I worry for her, having to spend the evening with King Aegon," Maera inquired, her brows furrowing.
Ser Arryk provided what information he had. "Her Grace left the king's chambers this morning, my lady. She seems to be well, at least as far as I can tell."
Maera appreciated the knight's response but found it too vague for her liking. She resolved to visit the Queen later and check on her personally. Her curiosity then turned to the rest of the Royal family.
Her curiosity about the royal family still lingering, Maera asked Ser Arryk about the whereabouts of the other members. She inquired about King Aegon, eliciting an eye roll from her when she learned that he remained in his chambers, likely nursing a hangover worse than her own.
Ser Arryk continued to provide details. "Queen Alicent and Prince Daeron are spending time together today, my lady. Along with the royal children. I have heard they are making their way to the Godswood this afternoon."
Maera nodded, acknowledging this information. Her curiosity about Prince Aemond surfaced, and her stomach churned with anxiety as she asked, "What about Prince Aemond, Ser Arryk?"
The knight's response brought a mixture of relief and resolve. "Prince Aemond left this morning on his dragon to attend to his royal duties. He won't be back at the Keep for a few days, possibly a week."
A sigh of relief escaped Maera's lips, and she offered a silent thank you to the gods that Aemond was away. It would provide her the space and time to focus on her suitors without the one-eyed Prince's interference.
"Thank you, Ser Arryk," she said, grateful for his information. She dismissed him with a nod and a kind smile before turning her attention to penning her reply to her sister Sabine.
Over the following days, Maera resumed her duties in Queen Helaena's service, though the Queen kept the details of her night with King Aegon to herself. Maera couldn't help but worry for her friend's well-being, her concern showing on her face. She approached Helaena, offering her support.
"If you wish for Aegon to be punished for his actions, Helaena, I'll be more than happy to see it done," Maera said earnestly, her loyalty to her friend unwavering.
Helaena chuckled at Maera's fiery response, appreciating her friend's willingness to defend her honor. "Oh, Maera, you should be on the Kingsguard," she replied, though she didn't reveal her true feelings about the matter.
With leave granted to engage with her potential suitors, Maera found herself in the Keep Gardens for her first meeting, accompanied by Ser Arryk as her chaperone. Her first suitor, Lady Johanna Lannister, stood before her, her pregnancy evident, carrying Maera’s possible future husband.
Maera couldn't help but find the situation somewhat absurd, sharing questioning glances with Ser Arryk, who chuckled to himself. Lady Johanna, too, acknowledged the peculiarity of the situation, highlighting the lengths to which noble alliances would go.
"Men would match babe to crone if it meant securing a favorable alliance," Lady Johanna remarked, a wry smile on her face.
As they conversed, Lady Johanna painted a picture of life in Lannisport and what Maera's future might look like as Lady of Casterly Rock if she were to marry Johanna's son. Maera considered the absurdity of it all but couldn't help but see one undeniable advantage - her sister Sabine resided in closely to Lannisport. Having family close by was a comforting thought amidst all this uncertainty.
As their meeting drew to a close, Maera placed a gentle hand on Lady Johanna's baby bump, feeling the unborn child's movements beneath. Memories of her stepmothers' pregnancies and the many births she had witnessed at Rain House flooded her mind. She addressed the bump with sincerity.
"It truly is an honor to be courted by his lordship," Maera said, a warm smile on her face. She turned her attention to Lady Johanna. "Thank you for taking the time to share what it's like to be a Lannister. Your insights mean a great deal to me."
Lady Johanna giggled, charmed by Maera's demeanor. This courtship might have been unconventional, but there was warmth and connection between them, even in these strange circumstances.
A day later, Maera had moved on to her next suitor, Lord Humfrey Lefford, but the encounter took an entirely different turn than her previous one. As they sat in the library, Lord Lefford's expectations became painfully clear to Maera.
He spoke of wanting a wife who would exist solely for his desires, to bear his children and cater to his every whim. His vision was that of a submissive, docile wife who would not question her husband's demands and stay home to care for his brood.
Maera listened to his words, growing more uncomfortable by the moment. This was not the kind of marriage she desired, and she couldn't fathom being bound to a man with such archaic views. Politeness compelled her to endure the conversation, but she couldn't wait for it to end.
As Lord Lefford concluded his thoughts, Maera offered a courteous smile and said, "Lord Lefford, I appreciate your candidness and the time you've taken to speak with me. It has been…enlightening." In truth, it had been anything but enlightening, but she wished to end the conversation as gracefully as possible.
Quickly excusing herself, she left the library with a sense of relief. Her desire to share her experiences with Queen Helaena was paramount now, and she headed for the Queen's chambers with eagerness.
However, as she walked through the corridor, her path was unexpectedly blocked by an unfamiliar voice. "Forgive me, I seem to be a bit lost.”
Maera turned her gaze toward the source and found herself face to face with Floris Baratheon, a sense of urgency in the deep brown pools of the lady's eyes. Floris was adorned in a striking yellow dress, with black stag heads adorning the fabric, and a black leather corset cinched around her waist. A black cloak cascaded over her shoulders, completing her striking appearance.
Maera was momentarily taken aback. Up close, Lady Floris was even more beautiful than she had imagined. House Wylde's allegiance to House Baratheon meant that Maera had to offer the utmost respect, even if her feelings towards Floris's betrothal to Prince Aemond stirred some bitterness within her.
With a nod of acknowledgment and an apology for nearly rushing past her, Maera offered, "My apologies, Lady Floris. Of course, I would be honored to assist you.”
Lady Floris then inquired if Maera could guide her to the castle entrance near the stables, as she was preparing to depart for Storm's End. Maera readily agreed, turning to lead the way down the long, winding steps that led to the lower levels of the Red Keep.
Breaking the silence, Floris began, "I know who you are, Lady Maera. Our fathers are close, I believe."
Maera responded with a noncommittal hum as they continued their descent. Realizing her own dismissive tone, she corrected herself and offered a more congenial response.
"Congratulations on your betrothal to Prince Aemond," she said, attempting to be polite, though her inner turmoil about the matter was hard to mask. "You must be very happy at the prospect of becoming a Princess."
As they continued to descend the staircase, Lady Floris couldn't help but scoff at Maera's comment about becoming a princess. She explained, her voice tinged with frustration, "Princess or not, my intended is avoiding me like I'm riddled with greyscale."
Maera, perplexed by this revelation, raised her eyebrows in surprise. She guided Lady Floris down the corridor, her mind racing to understand why Prince Aemond would not extend the courtesy of spending time with his bride-to-be before their wedding. She had assumed that Aemond's mother, Queen Alicent, would encourage the pair to get to know each other, given her own loveless marriage to the late King Viserys.
Floris continued, her tone resentful, "My father is an ambitious man, Lady Maera. He would do anything for a grab at power, including marrying me off to a cripple and a kinslayer."
Maera frowned, feeling a bit defensive on behalf of Aemond. "Prince Aemond has his negative qualities to be sure, but this match is quite advantageous, Lady Floris. You should consider yourself lucky."
However, Maera paused, her thoughts changing. Maybe she was being unfair. After all, Floris was just a woman fulfilling her father's wishes. She spoke again, emphasizing the practical nature of marriage. "Marriage is about duty and providing heirs. That's all your union should be."
Floris nodded as they fell into a thoughtful silence. Descending yet another staircase, Floris eventually broke it by saying, "I know that you've known the Prince since you were children. What can you tell me about him?"
Maera asked, "What would you like to know exactly?"
As they continued their descent, Floris hesitated before she eventually replied, "What to watch out for."
Maera empathized with her and thought about how she'd want to know what her intended was like if she were in the same position.
A flood of memories rushed through Maera's mind. Initially, the memories were negative—how Prince Aemond had toyed with her, shunned her, and belittled her, making her furious. "The Prince can be cruel and arrogant. He often thinks he's the smartest person in the room and harbors bitterness about not being on the Iron Throne instead of Aegon."
But then, a shift occurred. Maera's memories took a more positive turn. Memories of them playing together as children, sparring as adults, his encouragement of her passions, and his deep love for his family. Maera remembered the way he had defended her honor when Aegon attacked her. These recollections caused a soft smile to curl on her lips, leaving Lady Floris puzzled.
Maera cleared her throat before continuing, "The boy I knew as a child is still in Aemond, somewhere. Perhaps the right person could bring it out. I see glimpses of his old self sometimes—his fierce loyalty to his family, his skill with the sword, and how he genuinely cares about serving the realm. If you manage to bring out this side of him, Lady Floris, you might find some contentment in your marriage."
As they reached the stable entrance, Floris thanked Maera for guiding her out of the Keep and for the insights she had shared. Floris acknowledged, "You are right about marriage being for duty. Once I've produced a few of the Prince’s heirs, I hope another Lord will take interest in me and truly sweep me off my feet. Hopefully one with two eyes."
Maera bit her tongue, choosing not to react to the blatant insult Floris had just delivered about Aemond, despite all the positive qualities she had just listed. Instead, she offered a respectful nod and falsely replied, "I hope your journey back to Storms End is a safe one, Lady Floris, and I look forward to meeting you once again in the near future.”
Notes: bye Floris don’t come back 👋🏻

Back on my picky eater Harry propaganda: Doesn’t like certain fruits because of how unreliable they are.
You take a bite of a grape. Is it too sweet? Is it too sour? Does it hit that sweet spot just right? You won’t know until you eat it. And if it’s one of those extremes, it’ll take you off-guard, and you don’t like that. You don’t like the guesswork.
So dragonfruit, yeah? Had it once. Literally twice in your life, actually. Wasn’t great—it was mushier than you expected it to be. But also wasn’t bad, and it apparently has good health benefits. The second time you have one, it’s not red. Oh, you think, it’s white—it’s not ripe. Turns out it is ripe. And it tastes worse than you remember. You find out that red dragon fruit and white dragon fruit are different kinds of dragon fruit. You won’t know which you have until you buy the expensive fruit and cut it open. And red is more uncommon. You never buy dragonfruit again.
You buy kiwis rarely. You don’t like the prickly hair on the skin. Luckily you know not to eat the skin, but it’s hard to avoid it entirely. Kiwis can be tangy, but at least it’s manageable, and unlike grapes, it doesn’t really get too sweet. The problem? The fucking skin. And the core, of course. You don’t like the core. It’s also a little messy.
Not as messy as pomegranates, though. Oh, boy, pomegranates remind you of blood and guts and corpses. Picking the seeds out feels nice on your hands, but you feel like what you get out of it is comparatively minuscule.
The best cantaloupe is ripe and cut into cubes that you can eat with a toothpick. The best cantaloupe is soft and easy to bite into but not so overripe that it’s sickeningly sweet. It’s easy to get that middle ground. Sometimes you can get past cantaloupes that aren’t entirely ripe. It’s less the taste and more the crunchy hardness that tends to put you off. Same with watermelon.
But oranges! Oranges are good when they aren’t sour. Some fit in your pocket and you can peel them. You can get the orange sections out cleanly with minimal stickiness on your fingers. Best of all—you can easily share oranges. You read that love being is sharing an orange, and you’ve never been able to get it out of your brain when you’re holding an orange. Oranges are made for sharing. If you can’t share an orange, what’s the point in eating taste of summer?
Bananas? Fucking delicious. Easy to eat. But don’t get yourself started on the fucking jokes associated with them. You haven’t taken a banana to work in thirteen years because your coworkers revel in the most unfunny and overused joke in the world. Fuck them, really. And fuck them when they’re mush in your mouth. You prefer them a little unripe as opposed to grossly overripe.

reminders // aegon ii targaryen/gn!reader
cw: nsfw themes, cockwarming, otherwise fluff/comfort
"Lean back, sweetling."
Aegon does as he's told, shifting out of their embrace and dropping his head back until the soft strands touch water.
His lover diligently starts massaging in the soap, their nails scratching his scalp. He's a mess like always, knots in the ends of his hair and they sigh while trying to work them out. Aegon whines when they pull a little too hard and they laugh lightly in response, "If you would just brush it from time to time we wouldn't have this problem."
"I like it more when you do it," he says it lowly, though without any trace of shame. He's fairly open with his neediness.
His reward is a short kiss on his forehead before they lean over the side of the tub they're in and grab the brush they'd left there for this purpose. With the help of it and more soap they untangle his hair and wash out the dirt and grime until all that's left are silky white strands that float around his head like a crown.
He sighs contently when their fingers start up and his lover starts properly massaging his head. Aegon scoots back until he's pressed against their chest again, his head resting against their shoulder and making the task of massaging it much harder.
They still keep it up for a moment, indulging in his pleased hums, before they slide down one hand to settle on his throat lightly while the other traces over his face. With their pointer and middle finger they gently trace over his forehead down his nose and up again, a smile tugging on their lips when he leans into it.
When they move again and close their arms over his shoulders and legs around his midrift he laughs and settles his own arms on their legs under the water.
"How was your day, my dragon?"
"Fine." He doesn't even put effort into lying. His tone betrays it was anything but.
"Talk, love."
"Mother just had a go at me again. It's a little exhausting to be a disappointment just by existing."
Their hands caress his arms under the water, gently working into the muscles. They try to not let their anger grow at the defeat in his voice.
"Your mother should find someone to fuck her from time to time. She would greatly benefit from getting laid, I believe. Perhaps it would permanently remove the stick from her arse."
He giggles. He fucking giggles at that and melts their heart. "Please don't mention my mother bedding anyone ever again."
"You realise she had to bed your father to make you."
"What a horrifying image."
"Mh." He sounds happier again and it settles their rage on his behalf. "I'm quite happy they did. I would miss your company."
"You'd find someone else."
They put more strength into their embrace until he huffs at them.
"I only want you, my dragon. You'd do well to remember it finally."
When they release the pressure on his torso again just a little, he drops his head further back so he can press a kiss on their jaw.
"Sure you do." They can hear his doubts but let it drop for the time being.
Instead they reach for another piece of soap and cloth laid on a side table and begin cleaning him.
He pliantly follows where their hands lead him, holding up his arm when they nudge it, and he only makes a few comments about wanting to fuck, half-heartedly and easily put aside.
All in all he's on his best behaviour.
Aegon leans forward when they quickly clean themselves and then steps out of the tub, grabbing the towels from where they'd been laid out in front of the fire, before holding one open for them to step into. With more gentleness than he outwardly seems capable of he dries them both.
They settle in his bed, under fresh sheets and with a bowl of fruit between them that they share, and talk of nothing of importance.
Until Aegon's eyes slip closed again and again.
With a silent laugh they put the bowl on his nightstand and then settle on his chest, their arm around his middle and their legs entangled.
Aegon whines lowly and then his hand wanders between their legs, "I need you. I need you close."
He asks for this often enough that his lover knows immediately what he's after. They shift on top of him, grinding against his cock that's half hard between them and reach for the oil that's permanently by the bed.
He doesn't even open his eyes, just lets himself be moved and touched and moans occasionally. His hands bury themselves in their thighs when they sink down on him.
Lost in the pleasure of their heat, he bucks his hips up and makes them both groan. They both breathe heavily for a couple of moments, before he whines again, opening his eyes and reaching out with a pout.
He's hard to withstand.
So they settle back down, now with their entire weight on him, taking care not to let him slip out of them, and press their face against his. His arms close around them and he hums in satisfaction.
"I love you very much, Aegon Targaryen."
His breathing stops shortly before he answers, "I love you too."
Now, there's nothing but honesty and appreciation in his voice. Aegon doubts their love daily, whenever someone else makes him feel undeserving of it, but they'll make sure to remind him time and time again.

Hair loss can be a common concern for many individuals, but Head and Shoulders offers an innovative solution with their Advanced Hair Science Blend. This blend combines advanced hair science with clinically-proven hair growth support actives to promote denser, thicker, and fuller-looking hair. In addition to the scalp skincare routine provided, Head and Shoulders' products aim to address hair loss concerns effectively and efficiently. Key Takeaways Head and Shoulders' Advanced Hair Science Blend includes a Morning Scalp Serum and Clinically-Proven Hair Growth Support Actives for denser hair growth. The Scalp Skincare Routine features a Scalp Stimulating Booster and Full Lengths Density Elixir for healthier, fuller hair. Key benefits of the routine include promoting scalp balance and supporting longer-looking hair. Starting with a healthy scalp is essential for combating hair loss. Utilize the Reactivator for restyling frizzy areas and maintain consistency in product usage for optimal results. Advanced Hair Science Blend Morning Scalp Serum I've recently incorporated a new step into my morning routine that's designed to foster a healthy scalp environment. The Scalp Stimulating Booster, a morning scalp serum, has become an indispensable part of my hair care regimen. It's a blend of advanced hair science and naturally stimulating ingredients, including two clinically-proven hair growth support actives. These actives work synergistically to make my hair appear denser, thicker, and fuller. The beauty of this serum lies in its targeted approach. Unlike some hair growth products that can have widespread effects, this topical formula ensures that the benefits are concentrated where they're needed most—directly on the scalp. To achieve the best results, I've learned that consistency is key. It's recommended to use the serum as part of a comprehensive scalp skincare routine, alongside the Full Lengths Density Elixir, for a minimum of 12 weeks. Here's a simple breakdown of how I use the serum: STEP 1: Apply the serum once daily, preferably in the morning. STEP 2: Massage the scalp until the serum is fully absorbed. STEP 3: Fluff the roots to add life and volume to the hair. This routine not only supports my hair's health but also prepares it for styling, with the option to use a Reactivator for any touch-ups. Clinically-Proven Hair Growth Support Actives I've discovered that the key to a fuller, thicker mane lies in the science-backed ingredients of the products I use. The blend of Anagain and Baicapil in my morning scalp serum has been a game-changer. Anagain, derived from pea sprouts, is known for its ability to enhance hair density. Baicapil combines soybean, wheat germ, and Chinese skullcap to improve follicle conditions, promoting a healthier scalp. Consistency is crucial in any hair care regimen. Applying the scalp serum daily, as part of a routine, ensures that the active ingredients have the time they need to work effectively. The stimulating blend of natural extracts like ginger, nettle, dragon fruit, and guarana not only invigorates my scalp but also adds a pleasant fragrance to the experience. Here's a quick look at the actives and their benefits: Anagain: Contributes to fuller, thicker-looking hair. Baicapil: Improves follicle conditions for better hair growth. Stimulating Blend: A fragrant mix that invigorates the scalp. I've learned that for optimal results, it's best to maintain this scalp care routine with the Full Lengths Density Elixir for at least 12 weeks. This approach has helped me say goodbye to thinning and welcome a head of hair that looks and feels revitalized. Topical Formula I've discovered that the key to a fuller-looking head of hair lies not just in what you apply, but how you apply it. The topical formula is designed to target specific areas of concern, ensuring that the active ingredients are concentrated where they're most needed. This precision approach helps to maximize the effectiveness of the treatment without affecting other areas.
Here's a quick rundown of the components in the topical formula: Anagain, which is based on Pea Sprout, contributes to fuller and thicker-looking hair. Baicapil, a blend of Soybean, Wheat Germ, and Chinese Skullcap, improves follicle conditions. A stimulating blend of natural extracts including Ginger, Nettle, Dragon Fruit, and Guarana. The beauty of this topical solution is its ability to work synergistically with the rest of your hair care routine. When combined with the Scalp Stimulating Booster and the Full Lengths Density Elixir, it forms a potent regimen that supports hair growth and scalp health. Pricing is also a factor to consider. At $7.00 per 1fl oz, it's an investment in your hair's future. The option to select a larger size and save 15% is a welcome bonus for those committed to long-term care. Scalp Skincare Routine Scalp Stimulating Booster I've recently incorporated the Scalp Stimulating Booster into my morning routine, and I'm already noticing a difference. This Booster is a morning scalp serum designed to create the environment for a healthy scalp. It contains a blend of advanced hair science, naturally stimulating ingredients, and 2 clinically-proven hair growth support actives that help your hair look denser, thicker, and fuller. Unlike traditional hair growth solutions, this topical formula works only where it is applied, avoiding unexpected surprises. The key to a fuller head of hair starts right at the scalp. By using the Booster as part of my daily regimen, I'm laying the groundwork for healthier, more vibrant hair. Here's how I use it: Apply once a day directly on the scalp, ideally in the morning. Massage thoroughly until the product is fully absorbed. Fluff the roots vigorously to reshape and give life to my hair. For best results, it's recommended to pair it with the Full Lengths Density Elixir. It's suitable for all curl types and even straight hair, making it a versatile addition to anyone's hair care routine. Full Lengths Density Elixir JSON Benefits of Routine Embracing a dedicated scalp skincare routine has been a game-changer for me. Consistency is key; by integrating the Scalp Stimulating Booster and Full Lengths Density Elixir into my daily regimen, I've noticed a significant improvement in the health and appearance of my hair. It's not just about using the products, but about making them a part of my everyday life. The journey to a healthier scalp and fuller hair isn't instantaneous. It requires patience and persistence, but the rewards are well worth the effort. I've learned that avoiding unexpected surprises comes from a steadfast commitment to the routine, ideally extending over a period of at least 12 weeks. Here's a simple list of benefits I've discovered through my routine: Enhanced scalp health Increased hair density Improved hair texture A sense of personal accomplishment Each benefit builds upon the last, creating a compounding effect that has not only boosted my hair's vitality but also my confidence. Hair Loss Solutions Healthy Scalp Start I've learned that the journey to thicker, fuller hair begins right at the scalp. A healthy scalp is the foundation for combating hair thinning and loss. Each morning, I start with a Scalp Stimulating Booster, which is more than just a serum; it's a commitment to my hair's future. The Booster is packed with a blend of advanced hair science and naturally stimulating ingredients, including two clinically-proven hair growth support actives. Here's a simple routine I follow: Apply the Scalp Stimulating Booster to the scalp. Gently massage to distribute the serum evenly. Integrate with the Full Lengths Density Elixir for optimal results. Continue the routine for at least 12 weeks to see significant improvements. Consistency is key. The topical formula of the Booster ensures that the actives work precisely where needed, avoiding any unwanted effects. It's a targeted approach that promises denser, thicker, and fuller hair without the guesswork.
I've also noticed that apart from the Booster, incorporating nutrient-rich natural oils like coconut oil into my routine has been beneficial. It's not just about the products I use, but also about nurturing my scalp with the right nutrients. Scalp Stimulating Benefits I've discovered that the key to a fuller, healthier mane lies in the foundation of hair care: the scalp. A well-nourished scalp is the bedrock of hair growth, and that's where the Scalp Stimulating Booster comes into play. It's not just about applying the product; it's about the daily ritual that turns hair care into a nurturing moment for both scalp and self. The Booster is more than a morning routine; it's a commitment to scalp health that pays dividends in the form of luscious locks. Here's how I incorporate the Scalp Stimulating Booster into my daily regimen: Apply the serum directly to the scalp each morning. Massage thoroughly until fully absorbed. Fluff the roots to give hair life and volume. Consistency is crucial, and I've found that coupling the Booster with the Full Lengths Density Elixir for a minimum of 12 weeks yields the best results. It's a targeted approach that ensures the actives work precisely where needed, avoiding any unwanted effects. Reactivator Usage After familiarizing myself with the foundational steps of my hair care routine, I've come to appreciate the role of the Reactivator in maintaining my hairstyle. It's become an indispensable tool for restyling any frizzy areas that emerge throughout the day. The process is straightforward and can be seamlessly integrated into my daily regimen. The Reactivator is not just a quick fix; it's a strategic addition to my hair care arsenal, ensuring that my hair retains its vitality and style with minimal effort. Here's a simple guide on how to incorporate the Reactivator into your routine: Apply the Reactivator to areas that require a touch-up. Massage the product into the scalp and hair until fully absorbed. Fluff the roots to reshape and revitalize the hair. By following these steps, I ensure that my hair remains as fresh and styled as it was in the morning, without the need for extensive restyling. ConclusionIn conclusion, Head and Shoulders' Scalp Stimulating Booster offers a unique solution to hair loss by providing a morning scalp serum that promotes healthier, fuller, and thicker hair. With a blend of advanced hair science and clinically-proven hair growth support actives, this topical formula targets the scalp directly, avoiding unexpected surprises. Dnd Monsters Explained Hill Giants
Hill Giants are selfish dimwitted brutes that hunt forage and raid in constant search of food. They blunder through hills and forests devouring what they can bullying smaller creatures into feeding them. Their laziness and dullness would long ago have spelled their end if not for their formidable size and strength.
Hill giants dwell in hills and mountain valleys across the world congregating in steadings built of rough timber or in clusters of well defended mud and wattle huts. Their skins are tan from lives spent lumbering up and down the hilly slopes and dozing beneath the sun. Their weapons are uprooted trees and rocks pulled from the earth. The sweat of their bodies adds to the reek of the crude animal skins they wear poorly stitched together with hair and leather thongs.
In a hill giant's world humanoids and animals are easy prey that can be hunted with impunity. Creatures such as dragons and other giants are tough adversaries. Hill Giants equate size with power.
Hill giants don't realize they follow an ordning. They know only that other giants are larger and stronger than they are, which means they are to be obeyed. A Hill giant tribe's chief is usually the tallest and fattest giant that can still move about. Only on rare occasions does a Hill giant with more brains than bulk use its cunning to gain the favor of giants of higher status, cleverly subverting the social order.
With nothing else to occupy them Hill giants eat as often as possible. A Hill giant hunts and forages alone or with a Dire wolf companion so as to not have to share with other tribe members. The giant eats anything that isn't obviously deadly, such as creatures known to be poisonous. Rotten meat is fair game though as are decaying plants and even mud.
Farmers fear and loathe Hill giants. Where a predator such as an Ankheg might burrow through fields and consume a cow or 2 before being driven off a Hill giant will consume a whole herd of cattle before moving on to sheep goats and chickens then tearing into fruits vegetables and grain. If a farm family is at hand the giant might snack on them too.
The hill giants ability to digest nearly anything has allowed them to survive for eons as savages eating and breeding in the hills like animals. They have never needed to adapt and change so their minds and emotions remain simple and undeveloped.
With no culture of their own Hill giants ape the traditions of creatures they manage to observe for a time before eating them. They don't think about their own size and strength however. Tribes of Hill giants attempting to imitate elves have been known to topple entire forests by trying to live in trees. Others attempting to take over humanoid towns or villages get only as far as the doors and windows of a building taking out its walls and roof as they attempt to enter.
In conversation Hill giants are blunt and direct and they have little concept of deception. A hill giant might be fooled into running from another giant if a number of villagers cover themselves in blankets and stand on one another's shoulders holding a giant painted pumpkin head. Reasoning with a Hill giant is futile although clever creatures can sometimes encourage a giant to take actions that benefit them.
A hill giant that feels as though it has been deceived insulted or made into a fool vents its terrible wrath on anything it encounters. Even after smashing those who offended it into pulp the giant rampages until its rage abates, it notices something more interesting, or it grows hungry.
If a hill giant proclaims itself king over a territory where other humanoids live it rules strictly by terror and tyranny. Its decisions shift with its mood and if it forgets the title bestowed upon itself it might eat its subjects on a whim.

大家好! Besides veggies, I also have a variety of fruit. Juices are fantastic thirst quenchers on hot days. Rounding off lunch of fried fish (the stall didn't serve steamed fish that day), taupok (beancurd) filled with minced pork, preserved mustard greens, mixed veggies and okra with zhou (congee): freshly squeezed red dragon fruit juice. Because I don't have a sweet tooth, there's no added sugar in all freshly squeezed juices that I drink.
1 of the prettiest plants I found so far during the walk to the coffee shop near my home bears multi-hued tiny flowers, a striking contrast to its rich green leaves. Stopping along the way to capture lovely blooms dotting the pavements in white, yellow and bold red is fun; I even tried to colour-coordinate my lunch with the flora and fauna to give family and friends a laugh! Whilst eating, I caught up on recipes, exercise news, as well as current affairs. SW and I had a chat too and she shared that her dad, who, in spite of greying hair looks incredibly youthful, also eats food from cai fan (mixed dishes with rice) stalls. It's easier to eat more veggies this way.
Moderately healthy living is less rigid so it isn't salads salads salads, the same few veggies with olive oil or nuts and seeds all the time. Details about my first visit to Pizza Hut in years in the next post! It's not that fastfood is completely banned; there're just healthier and even more delicious alternatives like dimsum, dumplings or ma la and I'd much rather have those since I don't feel as lethargic after eating them. My health goal isn't to look, but to BE; not to look muscular but to BE healthy, agile, energetic, alert and mobile. And if I want to be energetic and alert, I don't wanna eat foods that make me feel tired, drained and sloth-like all that often.
The understanding here is, food doesn't have to be crispy to taste good. Steamed fish can be melt-in-your-mouth tender and it is delicious. Okra can be crunchy or soft and I can eat it for days. Don't even get me started on egg tofu because it's so versatile, I eat it with veggies and zhou for breakfast, I add it to veggie soups or stirfried veggies and enjoy with rice for dinner and I STILL can't resist it for lunch at times! 1 tube of egg tofu sold here = 1 egg, so that gives me a lot of flexibility when planning my meals for the day.
When it comes to what is heart-healthy, well, like it or not, to family, close friends and I who grew up with a traditional Asian upbringing, it isn't oils; it's veggies, plenty of it, some fruit, some fish, seafood, eggs and tofu, and less often, meat (including poultry). Fastfood, cake, pastries, bread, creamy pasta, ice cream and cookies are only eaten a few times a year, even if there are vegan alternatives because to us, vegan substitutes are just less UNhealthy. Ikr, offended, outrage, well you did it to our white rice, so suck it up. As it is, we already eat more healthily than your average citizen does. 下次见!

How to eat and cut dragon fruit?
We call this plant a fruit, but dragon fruit is actually considered a cactus. They have scaly skin that can be pink or yellow, while the inside flesh may be red or white with tiny, black seeds. It has a crunchy texture and sweet flavor like a kiwi or pear.
dragon fruit when to eat
Dragon fruit can be eaten when it is fully ripe, which is usually when the skin turns a bright red or pink color and the scales begin to look wilted. You can also gently press the skin with your fingers to see if it is slightly soft, which is a sign that the fruit is ripe and ready to eat.
To eat dragon fruit, you can cut it in half lengthwise and scoop out the flesh with a spoon, or you can peel off the skin and slice the fruit into bite-sized pieces. The flesh of the fruit is usually white or pink with tiny black seeds throughout, and it has a sweet, refreshing taste with a slight crunch.
Dragon fruit can be enjoyed as a healthy snack on its own, or you can add it to fruit salads, smoothies, or other recipes for a delicious and nutritious boost.
how to cut dragon fruit
Cutting a dragon fruit is a simple process. Here's how you can do it:
1. Choose a ripe dragon fruit that is slightly soft to the touch and has a bright, even color.
2. Cut off the top and bottom of the fruit with a sharp knife.
3. Cut the fruit in half lengthwise.
4. Scoop out the fruit with a spoon or cut it into cubes, leaving the skin behind.
5. If you want to use the skin as a serving dish, trim the edges of the skin with a knife to make it level and stable.
6. Serve the dragon fruit immediately, or store it in the fridge for up to two days.
what does dragon fruit tast like
Dragon fruit, also known as pitaya, has a mildly sweet and refreshing taste. Its texture is often compared to that of kiwi or pear, as it has a crunchy exterior and soft, juicy flesh on the inside. The flavor of dragon fruit can be described as a combination of kiwi, pear, and watermelon, with a subtle sweetness and a slight tangy taste. Some people also detect a hint of nuttiness in the fruit's flavor. Overall, dragon fruit is a delicious and unique fruit that is definitely worth trying if you get the chance!
